"Super-7 delivers the unabashed sound of the '80s inspired by the MKS-7, an 8-voice rackmount synthesizer that combines the analog architecture of the famous 106 with PCM sounds from the 7o7 drum machine. In demand, often emulated, and a well loved instrument to this day, the 106 has been used widely by diverse artists ranging from pop legends Depeche Mode to the genre-defying Autechre. The sound is powerful and dynamic, capable of creating rich and charactered voices within modern productions or carrying entire tracks with its distinct, warm analog vibe.

Building on the concept and structure of our Program 24 library, Super-7 takes things a step further, pushing deep into the realms of synthwave, new wave, electro, house, '80s synthpop and more. We multi-sampled a huge selection of patches custom-designed on the MKS-7, and recorded every sample 3 times, normally, with the chorus engaged, and with the noise switch active, giving you unprecedented access to the hardware sound. While the MKS-7 included the PCM sounds from the 7o7 we again took things a step further, including vintage era drums from an epic selection of hardware such as the 5o5, 6o6, 626, 7o7, 8o8, 9o9, and a host of modern sounds created in our very own Drum Designer to round it off.

Giving you everything you need to create rich analog synth lines, bass, drums, arps and phrases, all the way up to entire songs, Super-7 is an inspiring, versatile and extremely fun instrument. Loaded with 6 discrete layers, you have independent control over 8-tracks of drums, bass, melody, and 3 general purpose synth parts. Use these in any way you like, from conventional instrumentation to creative layering and effects.

Apart from the drums, each of the instrument layers in Super-7 has its own amp envelope, multimode filter with envelope, effects including drive, phasor, and EQ, send effects including reverb and delay, and a complex arpeggiator/phraser, allowing the creation of unique and moving sequences. You can tweak and adjust these modules completely, explore a wide selection of presets for both the sound engine and arpeggiator, or create your own.

In addition to the multi-instrument, each of the individual parts is available standalone, allowing you to load up just what you need in your arrangement. Each of the standalone instruments is identical to its multi counterpart, with the same selection of parameters, effects, effect sends, arps, and preset. Use them to focus on individual sound design, when you only need a single instrument, or to create additional instances of particular instruments.

For those looking for a deep instrument to get lost in sound design Super-7 has huge potential, but it’s also ready to provide immediate inspiration. Packed with ready-to-go sounds and musical ideas, Super-7 comes with a generous selection of 260+ factory patches, showing off the instrument's sonic potential, and creative visions from of our in-house sound design team."

Chordboard STAC Music: Meso Kingmann © 2011

YouTube Uploaded by chordboard on Feb 23, 2011

"http://www.chordboard.com for details on Chordboard STAC
"I created this song on the Chordboard beginning by starting with a performance preset on the Yamaha Motif CX8 keyboard, just trying to get some ideas, and the tempo was 103 bpm. I went to the Chordboard STAC and tried the Key of C and started to play the minor chords on the right side of the STAC. I went back and forth between several chords but gravitated to the D minor and A minor chords because for some reason they just sounded like the mood I wanted to be in, and then also bridging with the E minor chord for even more tension. After a couple of rounds with those chords, it was time to resolve from the minors in this key, and so I branched over to the left side of the chordboard playing the major chords and experimenting with that, and settling on going from A minor to F major, introducing a positive feel to it, and down to the C major and up to the G major, and finally to a B diminished to return to the original minor chord progression of ii, vi, iii.
Near the end of the song I brought all track volumes down and emphasized a sound called ELFIN DREAMS on the Yamaha, and just loved the way it took the song into a new dimension. I played the same chord progressions on these new harmonies (and melodies) but played them in a more fanciful way playing single notes (as shown on the vid) and taking advantage of what the sound had to offer. Some sounds sound WAY better played through the Chordboard STAC than they do on the regular keyboard, they just do, and vice versa as well. Some sounds sound ineffective on the STAC because they were not designed to be played that way (ie arpeggiated sounds, since the STAC already does that).
Overall, this song production is about 18 tracks of music and percussion, with a few of these tracks played on a regular keyboard (the Yamaha) and the remainder played on the Chordboard STAC. It took about 2 hours of music time, and 6 hours of mixing and engineering time. The Chordboard STAC significantly shortened the time to come up with 18 tracks.
One of the reasons I use the piano keyboard for parts of the song is that the piano keyboard is a different musical instrument and you can get the different sounds (playing styles) from using it. I use both the piano and the Chordboard. Some sound timbres are similar to those used by Daft Punk in Tron, but that is a coincidence, as I just love those saw wave sounds in the first place :)"

Cherry Audio Introduces the Elka-X - Virtual Elka Synthex

video upload by Cherry Audio

Update: user videos added futher below.

Introduction to Cherry Audio Elka-X Part 1 - Hosted by Tim Shoebridge

video upload by Cherry Audio

"Cherry Audio's Elka-X synthesizer is based upon the legendary ELKA Synthex, a rare Italian masterpiece with luxury features. Elka-X replicates the original's exceptional character without compromising sound or functionality and expands its features to deliver the authentic Synthex experience at a price anyone can afford. Cherry Audio's Elka-X synthesizer is now available at https://bit.ly/elka-x and authorized resellers worldwide at the extraordinary price of only $39.

About Elka-X Synthesizer

Cherry Audio precisely crafted each aspect of the Elka-X synthesizer to sound and behave exactly like a vintage hardware Synthex. Every effort was taken to emulate the prized tone of the original's DCOs, dynamic filter, and stunning chorus. The innovative sound-sculpting and performance features such as layering and keyboard split have been preserved, and the original's 128-step sequencer has been greatly improved.

As with its other synthesizer and effects products, Cherry Audio has kept the soul of a classic alive while updating its feature set for modern studio environments. Elka-X expands the polyphony and filter modes and introduces mono and unison modes that were absent from the original design. The extended functionality of the LFOs and addition of velocity response expands modulation potential, and a new arpeggiator delivers new performance possibilities.

Unique panel controls make it painless to exchange settings between layers, sequencer tracks, and even different presets. In addition to the original chorus effect, Elka-X adds studio-quality echo and reverb stereo effects, with independent settings for both layers. With additional touches such as chord memory, over 600 pro patches, and flexible MIDI mapping, Cherry Audio's Elka-X brings the authentic and expanded Synthex experience roaring into the 21st century.

Visit cherryaudio.com for a full list of features, system requirements, brilliant demo tracks, preset examples, testimonials, and a free 30-day demo of the software.

Elka-X synthesizer is now available at https://cherryaudio.com/ and authorized resellers worldwide. The software is provided as both a standalone application and in AU, VST, VST3, and AAX plugin formats for Windows and macOS, with native Apple silicon support for the highest performance on the latest Mac computers."

"30 years later and here we are... glorious sound makes that possible. All honor and praise to the geniuses at R. A. Moog Co, especially Bill Hemsath, and Mr. Moog himself, a person with whom I (MSR) shared a lunch space at NAMM in the 1990s—it's something folks.

Some internal patching on "Registered Pulses", "Voo R U", and "1st Midimini V30", not that I can remember what went where. No FX however, (with the exception of a wet channel on Rach of Ages 2), no compression, limiting, only a touch of some spot normalizing on several tracks. Essentially raw and un-pestered, synth and factory direct honesty—still such a lonely word.

Oh yes, and I created a few stereo tracks from multiple takes; who could resist? I'm sure you can spot them.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas,
Marc St Regis 12/24/19"

MIDIMINI V30 - $2999

"Many can recall dialing up Midim-g/Midimini patches that fit a song so perfectly that they inspired even greater creativity; shapely, sometimes sinuous sounds whose essense called out to you; emotive sounds you never wanted to change; sounds you lovingly tracked, notated and revered; sounds as vital as the lyrics or lead vocal—that solid, insistent, articulate bounce, bravado, and twangy bang. Was there another sensible, MIDI-driven rackmount choice for immaculate synth-bass and lead lines?

November 2019 brings the SE Midimini V30 to the table, and nothing has been lost in the translation of this end-of-decade Analog essential. A raft of brand-new hardware features, extensive software sweetening, and modular connections open the window even wider to an already stunning Analog view.

It's highlight time again:

Through-hole build: Every. Single. PC board.
Classic 4-pole, 24 db/oct, voltage-controlled Lowpass Ladder Filter, with voltage-controlled Cutoff.
Semi-Modular Mini: Standard issue CV & Gate, and # OutsToOuts-friendly patchability of voltage, amplifier, and key tonal mastering tap points (1/8" Eurorack Connections).
Classic Midimini Cross Mod and Boomstar-perfected Ring Mod.
Amp Drive: Boomstar Modular AMP saturation and overdrive imported into 'V30 world.
Output Feedback loop and gain control—the old Low Output to External Input hack—hardwired and fine-tuned—interacts expressivley with Amp Drive.
MIDI-syncable, AFM*-capable, multi-waveform LFO, routable to VCF and VCO.
LFO Out patch point for deep modulation or oscillation creation.
LFO Gate (LFO pulse of VCF/VCA) from the SE-02.
OSC 1 Triangle Wave to amplifier (bypasses VCF) for high Resonance setting/low frequency compensation.
Sweepable OSC Oscillator 2 to Oscillator 1 Sync.
Handy Boomstar Drone feature.
Envelope 2 Master Mode: ENV2 (VCA) assumes control of Filter (VCF) Envelope.
Expressive Linear and Exponential Glide.
Front Panel-mounted External Audio input with level control.
Independent Release control of Filter and Amplifier.
Boomstar MIDI Learn feature for MIDI, Aftertouch and Modwheel.
Low/Last/High Note Priority, Env 1 inverting, VCF/VCA dynamics, and VCF Envelope Multi-trigger."

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child, via Studio Electronics Instagram feed.

The MIDIMini as you all likely know is Studio Electronics rackmount Minimoog. They originally converted vintage Minimoogs to the MIDIMoog and then followed with their own designed MIDIMini. You can find pics of a MIDIMoog here and an original MIDIMini here.

DRE4MTR4CK Eurorack Sequencer User Guide 3/3

Published on Apr 2, 2017 gstormelectro

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2017

G-Storm Electro announces the DRE4MTR4CK eurorack module. DRE4MTR4CK is a simple and intuitive chromatic pitch CV sequencer in a mere 12HP.

It has 4 independent, externally clocked tracks with 4 steps each. Each track sends pitch CV to one of your VCO modules. With external clocking, you decide if timing is slow and dreamy, bouncy and up-tempo, or all out fury going into audio rates.

Unused clock inputs are multiples from input 1. Clocking can be interrupted for a track by inserting a floating patchcord. Manually trigger a track step using the TRIG buttons. Intuitively build evolving chords or poly-rhythmic note progressions.

Simple pattern modes and Octave transpose for each track provide seemingly endless note progression. Mix things up with Step reset and track data Rotate to re-circulate CVs among your VCOs. 16 memories are provided for program note data storage. Recall of programs during performance provides changes in melodic or chord structures on-the-fly.

DRE4MTR4CK will be all hand built in limited quantities. Modules will be available soon on Reverb. Full specs will be published on my blog - see below.. Stay tuned for video 3/3 which will be more of a user guide.

The DRE4MTR4CK module has no affiliation with any persons with similar name."

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2023

The anticipated new Pittsburgh Modular Taiga synth just rolled in the door. I knew I was going to be messing with it all day, so I figured may as well film it and share some curated noise with you. Patched some bass sounds and one clip making weird sound effects. Sounds really good, looking forward to using it in some new tracks.

This video was not sponsored by Pittsburgh Modular, nor Cre8audio. Paid for this unit with my own money. After all, I'm just another synth enthusiast just like you :D

A small amount of delay coming from Behringer DD400 for stereo widening only. Otherwise recorded direct to Tascam DR-05, no additional mastering or effects."

MeeBlip cubit go: easy USB MIDI interface, ultra-tight timing

via MeeBlip:

"Today, we’re announcing MeeBlip cubit go - a unique USB MIDI interface with incredibly tight timing.

It’s got the ports you most often need when mobile - one input, so you can perform, and four outputs, for sending notes and/or clock.

Here’s the twist: we’ve integrated hardware MIDI thru circuitry on the four outputs. Anything you send to the interface’s output goes to all four jacks simultaneously. There’s no software delay - you get rock-solid, ultra-tight timing.

That makes cubit go the perfect follow-up to our cubit splitter, introduced earlier this year. You still get four outs with identical timing - but now in a USB MIDI interface you can connect to your computer or mobile device.

cubit go is driverless and USB powered, so it works with any desktop OS, but also on phones and tablets (with the appropriate cables, sold separately). And the jacks are top-mounted for convenience.

Just plug it in and use it - there’s nothing to install, no separate power supply needed, and nothing to worry about. cubit go is palm-sized, lightweight, rugged, performs perfectly, and is easy to use.

Features:

1x1 USB MIDI interface with integrated hardware MIDI Thru
Class-compliant USB MIDI - no drivers needed
Four hardware-mirrored output jacks - no software lag
High performance 32-bit ARM Cortex processor
Bright green MIDI light flashes when sending or receiving data for easy troubleshooting
Size: 108 x 76 x 25 mm (4.25 x 3 x 1 inches), weighs 110 g (3.9 oz)
Includes 1 m (3 ft) USB cable
USB powered
Works with macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android*
Made in Canada, available only direct

cubit go is available now for $59.95 US.

Find the product page here.

Through August 23, we’re offering free worldwide shipping on cubit go and MeeBlip geode. Local tax and import duty may apply to international customers.

Also, if you missed it, we visited the amazing Hainbach last week [posted here], and our little MeeBlip geode got to meet his giant wall of sound. It was really fun to do."

Update: I reached out to Peter Kirn of Meeblip and Create Digital Music for some additional clarity on the cubit go. Here's what he had to say:

"It's a 1x1 USB MIDI interface.

The 1 input port is straightforward - that goes to the computer (or iPad or whatever).

The computer then *sends* MIDI to the output port.

That single output port's data is mirrored across all four MIDI output jacks, simultaneously - that's the MIDI thru circuitry. So for something like MIDI clock, it means all four output jacks have essentially zero timing variance from one another. (James likes to be precise - it's a maximum of 44 *nanoseconds*, so billionths of a second.)"

You can find some additional info on Create Digital Music here. Via the FAQ at the bottom:

Should I get cubit go or cubit splitter?

cubit splitter is the device for you if you want to take data sent to one MIDI input jack, and transmit that to four output jacks. (This is also called a “MIDI thru” box – they’re the same thing.)

cubit go is what you want if you need to get MIDI into and out of a computer or supported phone/tablet.

USB on cubit splitter is for power only. USB on cubit go carries both power and data.

Update2: If this is still conceptually foggy, I sent the following to Peter Kirn and he confirmed this is correct. In the most simplest terms, the MeeBlip cubit go is a USB only MIDI interface:

"The MIDI IN jack on the cubit go does not go directly to the MIDI OUTs but rather to the connected computer/USB device, which then does whatever you tell it to do (pass through or process). The USB device then sends to the four OUTs simultaneously as one OUT. The only messages going to the OUTs on the go come from the USB In. The MIDI OUT is just there so you can use external MIDI gear through the connected USB device. An example of how this is useful would be running multiple MIDI tracks on your software sequencer or DAW. The entire output would be transmitted to the four outs on the cubit go. If you have four tracks running you can assign a different MIDI Channel to each and then set each of your four MIDI devices to a corresponding MIDI channel. You can assign the incoming MIDI device coming through the cubit go a specific MIDI channel or channels either on the device itself or your software if supported (pass through or processed)."

Who becomes silverware first? - 10 minute LFO filter sweep and semi-generative Eurorack jam

video upload by thesrabbit

"This sonic experiment was inspired by the Dreadbox Erebus LFO having a whopping 10-minute long cycle time. Therefore, I thought it might be fun to run that LFO into every single filter I have with a CV input, including big analog polys with a VCF control input on the back intended for expression pedals. The honorary VCFs include: 2x Roland System-500 521, G-Storm Electro SH-2 and SH-5, Dreadbox Erebus, Oberheim OB-X8 (OB-X SEM LP mode), Sequential/Oberheim OB-6, Roland Juno-6.

Interestingly the filters on the big polys don't open all the way. I assume this has something to do with the inputs being calibrated for expression pedals rather than Eurorack CV. According to my oscilloscope, the Erebus LFO range is -5v and +5v. This is pretty typical for Eurorack. I set the cutoff at about 50% for all the filter modules. This seemed to work perfectly. But I was not able to do that with the polys. With the cutoff at 50%, the filters would open up all the way, but they wouldn't close nearly enough. I had to bring the cutoff completely down, and as a result, the filters on the polys wouldn't open up all the way. I did alternate takes where I walked around and tried to smoothly nudge each one up in order to get the filters fully open, but that was a disaster. In retrospect, I could have set up a one-shot MIDI LFO to do this and triggered it once at the right moment, but I already had enough things to worry about.

One of my audio interfaces is dead or dying, and it keeps ruining takes and sometimes crashes Logic. I finally turned it off and went with my lone Focusrite Scarlett 8i6, which has always been solid. But now I had an extra synth without an input and I wanted to have the polys on their own tracks so that I could blend them in with the Eurorack stuff to taste. And there's no possible way I could overdub since the whole point is to have one LFO sweeping all of the filters at the same time. I ended up resorting to an old 1989 JVC cassette deck to record the OB-6. So that shot at the opening of the video is legit. There's such a big wall of sound here that it's impossible to tell if it ended up adding any saturation. It definitely added some hiss and crackles but that's fine in this context. The cassette itself is ancient, cheap consumer grade, 60 minutes per side. I ended up recording over some 90's black metal that had been there since, well, the 90's.

To add to the grit and grime, I intentionally ran the filters from the Eurorack straight into the audio interface, bypassing the typical flow through VCAs. Ok, fine, I totally forgot about the VCAs, but it sounded extra dirty, so I didn't stress out too much. I certainly wasn't going to power everything back on, tune everything up and do another take because of it.

Obviously when the filters are closed or nearly closed for several minutes, there needs to be something to fill that gap. That's where the generative stuff comes in. There's 3 different sample and hold circuits feeding different things, including back into themselves in one case. Some voltage is running through different logic gates in conjunction with other, steady LFOs. Since I'm out of filters, the sound consists of pink noise through a VCA, triggered at random by a very short decay envelope. This runs into a recovery tape delay module, that gives sort of a slapback effect. Then there's a single oscillator, pitch controlled by another S/H circuit run through a quantizer and then running into the spring reverb tank. It's also triggered by the same random voltages triggering the noise hits. Then there's the Mutable Instruments Plaits, making the plinky plonky sounds, again everything triggered at random. It's running into the majestic Calsynth Typhoon.

The last thing to note is that the Erebus LFO also acts like an automated fader to increase and decrease the level of the VCA where all the rhythmic sounds are running through. I simply inverted the signal of the LFO output to do this. As the filters open up, the VCA level diminishes. When the filters fully close, the VCA level increases to maximum.

Last last thing. That knob twisting near the beginning isn't for sci-fi FX, though that's an added bonus. I was simply trying to get the LFO back to its "starting position." I didn't quite succeed. I don't believe the Erebus has any sort of LFO triggering mechanism to help with this. All good though.
