"This video was created during testing of the prototype SDS_VCO (3D printed black 3HP thing) connected to a Reflex for the first time. The sound from 1 little VCO is great when feeding a synced delay!

Two sequencers are in play, the ModEM-1 as a sequencer/clock source feeding the MI Frames, then CV added to the ModEM-1 sequence. All of the Frame's outputs are offset from a 10V LFO slowly (50 seconds) cycling a sine wave.

The SDS_VCO, coming soon, is set to use the MOD input to select 16 different waveforms (13 fixed + 3 custom) giving the mix a wide range of ever changing timbres. The bottom Wave knob can offset by 16. Also the CV input is set to quantize to one of the16 scales available.

"This is a Rev 3.3 version with no midi (serial number #1000-4045). It's in great shape and fully functional. The only issue is the Freq1 knob for Osc1 doesn't work well, it will turn if you put the knob down a bit while turning. Probably just needs a simple reconnection/cleaning. Also a few of the keys will double trigger if you leave the keyboard sitting unplayed for too long, but it plays fine the more you use it. So it could probably use a little servicing, but otherwise everything else is working great. The Prophet 5 has a huge warm analog tone, maybe the most classic of all the polysynths. A must have for any serious synth collection. Cosmetically it does have some signs of use but overall I would say it's in great shape."

"This has the more desirable J-wire keyboard (serial number #100-3142). It's in nice shape and working great. The only thing not working is the Noise knob in the mixer section. Everythign else is working, but in general it could use a servicing/tune-up. All the keys do trigger currently but the keyboard is clacky, so a rebushing would make it play smoothly. Some of the switches are dirty and knobs are scratchy. Otherwise it looks to be working as it should, and has a great sound. The Pro One is almost like a monophonic Prophet 5 but with a few extra features like the sequencer, arpeggiator and mod section."

All buttons and switches are intact and working. Couldn't find the box or owners manual. It is in good cosmetic condition with a few scratches. Dates back to the late 70s or early 80s. This unit does not make sounds!"

"Laurie Spiegel Playing the Bell Labs Digital Synthesizer, better known as the Alles Machine or Alice, was an experimental additive synthesizer designed by Harold G. Alles and Douglas Bayer at Bell Labs in 1977-78.

This composition was commissioned by Bell Labs and the Motion Picture Academy for the 50th anniversary of talking pictures. Working with the Alles synthesizer, with its extensive array of input and output channels for control, was a real pleasure after years of GROOVE's extreme restrictions. The interactive software I wrote for this composition recycles the player's keyboard input into an ongoing accompaniment. However, writing the software from a remote DEC PDP-11 computer (see also the PDP-11 FAQ and PDP Music Survey) in the new "C" computer language still undergoing frequent change, within a still-experimental UNIX operating system, without the control inputs or sonic output, under a tight deadline, while the Alles synthesizer hardware was still under construction, turned out to be quite an adventure.

It can orchestrate and perfome musicale scores as fast as a composer at its controls can think them up; create previously unheard musical sounds; and raise or lower the pitch of an instrument or human voice in real time-instantly-so that a man speaking into a microphone can be made sound like Donald Duck or Ezio Pinza. The machine divides sound into its frequencies and amplitudes, processing it un up to 200 million operations per sesond.

There are some other things I could have implemented but, really, I never ever used some features in previous sequencers. Random steps for example. Its nice to see, but never used.

At the moment I'm writing this I thought into a good resource , COPY/PASTE sequence :-) .

"It is almost impossible to describe the sound, flexibility and power of this machine without playing and hearing it. The FS1R is capable of any sound you can imagine.

The FS1R would be not for everyone, but a gem for the one who is seeking something special.

There are some small marks on the rack ears from mounting and on the top plate. This is a 240 Volt version.

In 1998, after several years without producing a single FM synthesizer, Yamaha released a new FM powerhouse...the FS1R. This little beast is far from your average FM synthesizer. Not only is it an eight-Operator variant, as opposed to the six- and four-Operator FM of the DX/TX lines, but it also features a new technology called Formant Shaping Synthesis. Formants are the spectral patterns making up the sounds of human speech. This allows for the creation of vocal like timbres but can also be applied in many different ways to create incredibly unique sounds that you won't find on any other synths.

DX7 aficionados will like the fact that the FS1R has almost complete compatibility with 6-Operator FM synths: you can send, via MIDI, a patch from a DX7, for example, and the FS1R will convert it to an identical-sounding patch in the new synth. A lot of the preset Voices actually come from the DX7's library. It's also possible to program sounds from DX7 sound charts, finding an algorithm that has an equivalent layout to the DX algorithm and turning off the unwanted Operators.

The complexity of working with the synth is far outweighed by the amazing sounds that it's capable of. It truly sounds like nothing else out there. From huge evolving pads, to shimmering EPs, fantastic organs, screaming leads and booming basses.. this synth can sound industrial and cold one minute, and then warm and almost analogue the next. With some time dedicated to learning how to edit the patches, or create your own from scratch, there's really no sound that this synth isn't capable of making."

The ARP Odyssey is a classic, and currently on a relevant run again, thanks to Korg’s fantastic reissue and iOS app. I purchased mine quickly after it hit shelves, as well as the iOS app, which was more recently released. I certainly don’t regret it. It has one of the more odd interfaces for a synth I’ve seen; its setup is definitely unique. Once I navigated around for a few hours I was able to make some wild tones with it, and have used it on countless songs by this point. You might be thinking, why would I decide to make an Ableton pack when there is an iOS app based on the synth as well? This is my take on the instrument. The body on the iOS app isn’t where I would like it to be. You will be able to achieve some very full, as well as disntinct sounds from my pack. I used Ableton’s sampler in some different ways, that will give you an Odyssey sound all its own. I Hope you enjoy the instruments, and if you create anything with the sounds please send your songs to us so we can hear your work! It brings us joy to know that people are using the instruments we worked hard on to be creative."

"Parat+ is really great to work with and is really helping to bring my set-up together. I spent some time today just getting the 2 iPads and the laptop communicating with each other & Parat+, and then starting to expand on my Parat+ presets to control everything.

Currently on my iPad4 I am running Parat+ along with Apollo MIDI over Bluetooth to connect to the iPad Air2, as well as connecting to the Laptop simultaneously via rtpMIDI.

I'm also running Apollo on the iPad Air2 for Parat+ to control iOS synths. etc., from the iPad4 as well as using MusicIO to send audio & MIDI from the iPad Air2 (via USB) to the DAW in the Laptop.

For live performance the Laptop is running rtp MIDI (iPad4) along with the MusicIO plug-in inside of AudioMulch to receive audio & MIDI (iPad Air2 - I'll try this with FreeStyle and Usine too).

I was using Animoog along with Alchemy & ABSynth today and had a simple ambient drone going (sorry, I'll be moving away from the drones soon, but they're very convenient for testing a setup). I was triggering Alchemy via Animoog's keypads. Then modulating X&Y path origins in Animoog via one pair of Parat+ faders and with another pair of Parat+ faders modulating Alchemy's MorphPad X&Y. ABSynth was my EWI sound Source. Pretty simple, but now that's it's working, I can start getting a lot more sophisticated with it.

I put this video up as a work in progress for my setup. I'll be replacing it soon with a more interesting version the utilizes a lot more of the possibilities..."

The touch gesture features include:
• One finger gestures to control the fader value.
• Two finger gestures to adjust the fader's minimum and maximum values.
• Three finger gestures to adjust the minimum, maximum and responsivity curve.

Use absolute touch mode to have the Fader value jump to whichever finger position is applied and relative touch mode to avoid any sudden jumps due to changes in finger position, allowing for seamless transitions in volume etc..
