Diabolical Devices CIRCUIT BENT Casio SK-1

via this auction

"This is a professionally circuit-bent Realistic Concertmate 500, which is the same synth as the famed Casio SK-1, just sold under a different brand name.

It was circuit bent by Diabolical Devices in the US, who are famed all over the world for their circuit-bending prowess.

It features a 20 point patch bay, 6 mystery switches on the side that muzz up the sound and cause all sorts of strange effects.

The patch bay allows you to connect one part of the circuit with another, to produce strange mutations in the sound generation process. You can't damage the machine like this.

It has an internal LFO (controlled by the second large knob from the left) that is patchable to any of the points via the purple patch hole, and a light sensor on the right whose sensitivity is controlled by the leftmost big knob.

This is also patchable into the bay via the blue patch hole.

The two metal switches on the far right control whether these controls are active or not, and this is indicated by the lights next to them turning blue or red.

As with all circuit bent devices, some combinations will crash the keyboard and you'll have to restart it - possibly also sticking on some amazing sound in the process.

The best thing is just to play around until you get something good, then record it.

All the normal Casio SK-1 functions are still active - with all the controls turned off, and no patches, this is just like a regular SK-1.

It comes with three high-quality patch cables, and a power adaptor (7.5v).

It would be perfect for anyone looking for new and exciting sounds that cannot be made any other way!"

iPhase for iOS

"!!!!!!!FREE FOR A LIMITED TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
iPhase is a generative music application made by Mikael Holmqvist.

Create amazing beats and melodies with the swipe of your fingers and watch it bounce back and forth on the iPhase grid. Choose from 5 different instruments and drum kits and 14 different musical scales.

Make sure to use loudspeakers or headphones for best possible sound quality!

---------------------------------------------------
NEW IN iPHASE 2.0
---------------------------------------------------
- Make more complex and better sounding beats with "bounceEdges"
- Save/Load function
- SHARE your beats to the iPhase Community and listen/play along/vote for others.
- Play iPhase arcade modes
---------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS/DETAILS
---------------------------------------------------

-SWIPE in any direction to create a TONE. Tones are higher towards the top and right side of the grid. The tones will move on the grid in the swipe direction and continue bouncing between the edges of the grid and the start position of the tone. Every grid edge have its own instrument and you can change the setup whenever you want using the instrument buttons.

- TAP the grid to create a BOUNCE EDGE. When a tone hit a bounce edge, it will turn 90 degrees and change instrument. Tap again to change the orientation of the bounce edge and tap a third time to remove the bounce edge from the grid.

-The tones are arranged in PENTATONIC MUSICAL SCALES which makes every swipe sound good. You can change the scales choosing from a total of 14 major and minor scales - the possibilities are endless!

-Use the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON to pause your beat. Tones can still be created in pause mode and this can be used to make your beat more precise.

-Use the LOOP MODE TOGGLE BUTTON to switch loop mode on and off. This can be used to first create a cool beat in loop mode and then switch it off to start playing some melody to your beat.

-SHAKE your device to create a RANDOM BEAT. Good when you run out of ideas and want some inspiration from chance.

-SAVE your beats with the SAVE BUTTON. They will then be found in "my saved beats" on the main menu.

-----------THE iPHASE COMMUNITY-------------

TOP 10 high scores from both arcade modes will be shown in the iPhase Community!

YouTube Uploaded by MrRidgebackman on Oct 30, 2011

"Hi, this is my beloved AKAI SG01v - Vintage Synth Module bought back in 95. Finally got this little beauty out of mothballs and decided to have some fun. So before I release any of my stuff, I thought you might like to listen to one of the 5 Demo Songs inbuilt into this unit.

It is as small as it looks and is probably just a little bigger than a decent sized pair of Headphones and won't take up too much room on your Computer Desk.

It has sounds ranging from Oberheim, Moog, PPG to mention a few, I even believe there are some Solina Strings on this unit.

It is a 16 Part Multi Timbral device and can be great fun to play with. Editing the sounds can be tricky and limiting as to what you can edit. It features the Drum sounds from TR-808 and Simmons, which by todays standards are Old Fashioned but can still turn a bad song into something more bearable, even if only for a brief moment in time.

So sit back and enjoy the work of someone else trapped inside a pint sized box making some noise."

eigenzone.org : Eigenharp built-in synth experiment

YouTube Uploaded by gbevin on Oct 30, 2011

"This is a quick unfinished experiment with hooking up the internal synth agents of EigenD to create a virtual modular synth. This sound uses two rectangle oscillators with one heavily detuned and one sine oscillator for a little more body. One envelope generator handles the volume of the oscillators and a second one handling the frequency cutoff of a ladder filter into which all oscillators are patched. The key pressure modulates the entire volume of the filter envelope generator. Finally, this is sent into the multi-tap delay agent.

It's worth noting that all these agents are designed for multi-timbral playing and that all expression signals are separate for each key that is played. From the signal coming out of the keyboard all the way through to the ladder filter, all data is separate. After the filter, everything is summed together before going through the delay and the console mixer."

How to Make a Noise: Analog, Frequency Modulation, and Sample-Based Synthesis

YouTube Uploaded by noisesculpture on Oct 30, 2011
These books and others by Simon Cann are available on Amazon.
Also see the Synth Books section for more.

"Three new books in the How to Make a Noise series have just been published. Each book focuses on different approaches to synthesizer sound creation so the musician can choose the right tool for the job.

How to Make a Noise: Analog Synthesis starts from the basic principle of taking a sound source and shaping it with a filter. This simple but powerful technique can be applied to any hardware or software synthesizer to create the warm, rich, energetic, and commanding sounds that are often associated with classic hardware synthesizers.

http://noisesculpture.com/analog

How to Make a Noise: Frequency Modulation Synthesis looks at frequency modulation (or FM) synthesis which works through a continuous and controllable interaction of two or more waves to give a broad spectrum of detailed, highly nuanced, bright, rich, shimmering, clean, metallic, and solid tones that can be used to create many musical (and non-musical) sounds.

http://noisesculpture.com/fm

How to Make a Noise: Sample-Based Synthesis looks at how to sample, create, and control sounds—from high fidelity realistic recreations of real instrument in their original environment, through creative warped tones, to drums and loops—and the tools and techniques that are available to help.
