"Korg's Nu:Tekt is a DIY division which enables the creation of powerful synthesizers and effects build around several of Korg's own proprietary parts and development platforms.

Korg has previously introduced the NTS-1: a pocket-sized digital synth kit that uses the same multi-drive engine found in the Prologue synthesizers. This year at NAMM, Korg introduces several new concepts, including a NuTube-based overdrive pedal kit, a DIY headphone amp, and an expanded set of ideas about how one could utilize the platform in their NTS-1 to create stunning synths, sequencers, and more.

"Roland's Jupiter-X appeared at the NAMM show, providing rich new takes on the workflow and characteristics of classic Roland synthesizers.

Following the introduction of the Jupiter-Xm, we've been excited to get our hands on the new Jupiter X, a full-size version of Roland's newest concepts in synthesis. Based on the new Zen-core sound engine, the Jupiter-X can be made to emulate the sound of several classic Roland synthesizers, including the XV-5050, SH-101, Juno-106, and others.

The Jupiter-X promises vast sonic potential—in this video, we take a quick look at some of the huge synth sounds it can produce. This is a fraction of its potential, and we're excited to spend more time with it!

The UDO Super 6 bears a striking visual and sonic resemblance to the classic Roland polysynths of yesteryear‚ with swirling stereo chorus and lush beds of rich pad tones. The FPGA-based DDS oscillators and "super-wavetable" oscillator create an immense amount of motion all their own—but when combined with the analog filters, delay, arpeggiator, and tremendous modulation potential, the Super 6 reveals a vast sonic universe all its own.

NAMM 2020: Doepfer A-174-4 3 Dimensional Joystick

Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"While Doepfer's new joystick module might seem simple at first, we still firmly believe it to be one of the coolest new Eurorack modules at NAMM 2020.

The new Doepfer A-147-4 is a heavy-duty joystick for Eurorack modular synthesizers. It features the expected X and Y axis outputs, but additionally provides Z-axis control by allowing users to twist the joystick itself—meaning that in a single movement, performers can manipulate three axes of movement. And with several integrated axis overlap functions, manual gate, and combined axis voltages, the A-147-4 can be used to produce tons of correlated voltages simultaneously, making for an intuitive and powerful expressive controller. Use it for multichannel panning, pitch bend, or intricate macro control—and feel like a fighter pilot while doing it!

"Simone from Frap Tools gave us a walkthrough of the new Brenso complex oscillator—and entangled set of sound sources based on classic Buchla concepts.

Like many complex oscillators, Brenso is comprised of two oscillators with wave shaping and several options for internal modulation. Where Brenso differs is in its uncommon open-endedness: while most complex oscillators have relatively closed signal paths and surface only a few potential ways of interacting with each section, Brenso allows for lower-level, more entangled means of interacting with sound.

NAMM 2020: 4MS Ensemble Oscillator Sounds & Interview

Published on Jan 18, 2020 Perfect Circuit

"4MS's new module is sixteen oscillators in one, enabling everything from additive synthesis to complex FM, chords, and more.

Dan Green from 4MS walked us through the concept behind their newest module, the Ensemble Oscillator. Designed in collaboration with Matthias Puech, Ensemble Oscillator is a polyphonic oscillator with internal provisions for FM, phase distortion, additive synthesis, and wave folding. Based around user-definable scales, it breaks away from "swarm" oscillator concepts in favor of exploration of quantized harmonic intervals, be they conventional or unconventional.

The sheer power of sixteen simultaneous oscillators cannot be overstated—but when combined with all of the internal options for cross modulation, wave shaping, and phase distortion, the Ensemble Oscillator becomes a source of immense sonic potential: from sparkling arpeggios to dense drones, chaotic noise, and beyond.

ELECTROCOMP EML-500 Rare Vintage Analog Mono Synthesizer

"This is one of the coolest pieces of gear my dad ( original owner ) had! This is a super rare Electrocomp EML-500, only 300 were ever made ( compared to the EML-1* series where 1000 were made ) and rumor has it there's far less still in existence. I don't know how to gauge "perfect working condition" in these old synths, but I do know it powers on and I saw it played within the past few years.

It could use a little cleanup but is overall in nice condition with one major flaw. One of the slider top pegs has broken off ( shown in photos ) The tops are a little plastic cap that goes over a plastic peg, and the peg snapped off some time ago. This could be a really easy repair for someone who is handy with epoxy, as the two pieces fit clean together and the small plastic peg could be removed from the cap and glued back to the other piece. Beyond that, some of the markings have started to wear, there's a little rub of the steel finish in a spot or too, and the wood has some marks on the back ( also shown ). Remainder of wood is actually nice with only minor flaws. If refurbished, this would truly be a show piece."

Buchla Music Easel - -BERATION

"I recently traded my Shared System for a BUSA Music Easel. So far, no regrets. I always seem to go through really strong phases of missing the Easel whenever I part with it and hopefully this one means it doesn't have to happen again. I never thought I would part with my Shared System but it's been nice having my studio fully convert to bananas :P

This isn't a fully structured piece or anything but I had some ideas of where I wanted the patch to go before I tear it down. I just wanted to record a little snippet for Instagram but since my camera was near by and charged, I decided to set it up and share here :)

The drone in the beginning is a little loop I recorded previously into the Chase Bliss Blooper and the Chase Bliss MOOD is doing a little granular shimmer thing and a bit of delay. This all gets drowned out though once I start dialling back the Easel's spring."

The Galaxy Electric - Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 8 - Modular Drone Music

Published on Jan 18, 2020 The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure:

https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This 8th session involves a drone featuring two independent Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel, and a small system involving a Buchla clone model 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, Buchla 292h Dual Lowpass Gate, and 281h Dual Function Generator in the Buchla LEM Powered 3 Boat.

Unlike other Pulser/Multivox/Hillwood synths you never seem to see the rare M-75 for sale.
This one is in great working shape it has been completely professionally serviced, tuned, calibrated and cleaned inside out. This synth has some scratches on the case but other than that is all-original and in 100% working condition. It sounds amazing.

Its in really nice cosmetic condition. All knobs switches and buttons work perfectly. All keys are shining white."

"This is an amazing keyboard in many ways. It's one of the original series of Digital oscillator synths ( really analog controlled 74ls221 multivibrator chips. One for each mono osc and one for the poly organ which routes with noise and ext. input to analog mainboard. I documented mass info. on these. see my youtube tech vids). Only 150 or so of DS1 were made and it just lacks poly section and second LFO. They made I think a couple thousand DS2 maybe. MANY are badly rusted ( like my studio one I don't dare sell for fear of more troubles) This one however is pretty great. I fabbed a handle. I also spent many hours going over it on a few occasions and hopefully it's reliable now. The story is documented on my sounddoctorin site."

4am: themes for synthesized strings

Published on Jan 18, 2020 NONsynth

"I've uploaded this as a demo to the album I'm working on (see video title).

Waking up at 4am has been super productive, and since early January I've been using the time to explore and develop a piano patch in Continua (new softsynth from Audio Damage). It has morphed from a kind of electric piano to more of a guitar tone, and I realize now that it's starting to approximate the 8-string tone I had a few years back.

I've been playing Continua with the Novation Launchpad X, and it's been a really nice way to get back to somewhat familiar ground, given the guitar-like layout of the default notes mode. It's as familiar as it is foreign, and I've been mirroring that middle ground in the mood of these songs.

Hope those listening enjoy, and please leave a comment if you have any suggestions or criticism! Keep in mind this is an early draft and I've yet to finalize either the notes or the sound design."

How good is the Hypersaw mode in the Waldorf Kyra?

Published on Jan 17, 2020 Marshal Arnold

"How good is the Hypersaw mode in the Waldorf Kyra?

Tonight I explore the Hypersaw mode in the Waldorf Kyra VA Synthesizer. The Waldorf Kyra's Hypersaw mode consists of 6 detuned sawtooth waveforms. You have an intensity and a spread control on the Waldorf Kyra which allows you the ability to dial in the amount and intensity of detune between the saws.

Once I enable the Dual Mode we then hear 2 of the exact same Hypersaw patches stacked right on top of each other and spread out n the stereo spectrum. This really sounds amazing on the Waldorf Kyra.

There is also a Hypersaw Suboscillator as well which I explore. The effects are all Kyra as well, until 4:03 in the video when I disable the Kyra reverb and delay and replace them with the Arturia Rev Plate 140 and the ping-pong delay in Ableton live."
