It's been quite a while since I produced and uploaded my last live video. With this video, I want to make a fresh start and produce more videos from my studio in the future. Therefore, this improvisation is quite simple. The Prophet X plays two sequences of different lengths using a sound from my Prophet X Sample Library Volume 1, which is available on my website and will be presented in detail here on YouTube soon.
The Spectralis plays a deep bass note every two bars and runs unsynchronized at the same tempo as the Prophet X (119 BPM).
I play a few melodies on my Minimoog, which has faithfully accompanied me for almost thirty years. It's a kind of farewell to a beloved synthesizer that I unfortunately have to part with. You can find it on the German online classifieds site Kleinanzeigen.
The Minimoog is in very good condition. I've maintained it regularly over the years, and it underwent a complete overhaul last week. This Minimoog is equipped with a Lintronics MIDI converter, which includes an additional LFO and other modifications. Thanks to retrofitted precision trimmers, the oscillators are significantly easier to tune and more stable than the original.
The sound of a Minimoog is very organic and majestic. I emphasize the vintage character of this little instrument by using the Valhalla DSP Delay plugin. This plugin produces wonderfully glorious noise and distortion on demand, adding even more life to this session."

Overdubs. Two takes of a drum from the D-2000 through the R-51 VCA are overlaid, and they were processed by a small room reverb on the Alesis MIDIVERB II with the preamp overloaded. A four note sequence on the Ladik S-143 is driven by a sparse pattern on the Blue Lantern Gate Sequencer, and controls the pitch of the S-2000, which is delayed by the Peavey 1300 with a reversed reverb on the MIDIVERB II. The S-707 cowbell is delayed by the Peavey 1300, with reversed reverb. The 16th note hats are from the DSP 808 module, triggered by ALM Pamela’s New Workout. The other percussion is from the S-LD."

"This is the first part in a series of videos featuring the UK modular stalwarts Analogue Systems originally published in 2015. It was filmed during a visit of Andreas Schneider to Cornwall, where Analogue System's Bob Williams and Steve Gay reside and have built AS modules since the 1990s. After recently stumbling upon these videos again, we talked to Andreas and thought it would be nice to republish them and make them available on YouTube for the first time ever.
While Bob has since retired, Steve continues to craft modules with the same exceptional audio quality in South Cornwall. The video goes into the direct historical connection between Analogue Systems and EMS (of Synthi fame). Steve - who once worked for EMS and received exclusive license from EMS' Robin Wood to reproduce some of the VCS3 circuits - explains how this heritage has shaped the character of Analogue Systems and resulted in modules like the RS-510e Trapezoid Generator."

For this piece, I used the preset 'Resophonic Gt', a plucked-style sound with a short envelope that gives it a string-like, percussive character, perfect for melodies and short phrases. I worked with the Wavetable engine, switching between several waves: '2 Echos' (my favorite), 'Clavinet', 'AnotherWT', 'Electric Piano', and 'FM+Crush'. For effects, I alternated between 'Grain Particle' and 'Grain Uncertain' to add that beautiful granular texture, and used a 'Plate reverb' as the master effect.
To integrate the ELZ_1 play with my Eurorack setup, I used the Collide 4 module by Joranalogue and Hainbach to match the signal levels to Eurorack standards and to take advantage of its filter and amplifier. I began by recording some 2 Echos notes into the Morphagene by Make Noise, then pitched them down and layered another take on top, letting the module work its magic to further enhance the sound. I also added a few notes from different sequencers and oscillators, blending them into the mix, which was processed through the Typhoon module for additional movement and texture.
Next, I recorded several loops: Clavinet on channel 1, Electric Piano on channel 2, and FM+Crush on channel 3. Each loop has a different length, and I played them in offset so they evolve in an asynchronous, shifting way. While performing, I also reversed playback back and forth, creating variation in both notes and texture so the piece never repeats in the same way.
For the live part, I used AnotherWT and 2 Echos, experimenting with effects and octaves. These layers were recorded into channel 4 of the looper in real time, following the same offset looping approach as earlier in the piece. During recording, I used the Collide 4 to shape and amplify the ELZ_1 play’s signal, adding even more character to the sound, and the Typhoon module to blend everything together in a beautiful, immersive space.
It’s a piece that invites exploration, one could easily spend hours lost in the endless sonic possibilities of the ELZ_1 play and modular synthesis.

"Double Bubble is a 16HP Eurorack dual analog multi‑mode filter designed for creative sound design and flexible signal processing. Each channel features an analog filter core that can operate in one of four modes – Low‑Pass, High‑Pass, Band‑Pass, or Notch. The input of Channel A is normalled to Channel B so its easy to create stereo filter patches from a mono sound source.
The two channels of Double Bubble can run as independent dual mono filters or be linked together for stereo operation. The filters can also be routed in serial configuration to create more complex signal paths such as a variable width bandpass or notch phasing effects. The SPACING control and wide range of CV inputs give deep modulation possibilities such as dynamic formant style filtering.
The FEEDBACK and XMOD (cross‑modulation) controls add further interaction between the two channels, ranging from subtle harmonic enhancement at low settings to more extreme, self‑modulating textures when increased. On the reface DX, harmonies are recorded with the looper and played back in repetition. The output is processed through the @strymon NIGHTSKY, adding filtering and reverb to shape the overall atmosphere."
