A really crunchy filter, doesn't matter if Guitar, Voice or Drum Machine the converter
create a really special distortion with possibilities to adjust pulse width and thanks to the
LFO is possible to create from sweep to tremolo effect.

All sounds/sequences via Buchla 200e - then passed through an Eventide Space (Reverb only).

"The Casio VL-1 is a low cost monophonic keyboard from the year 1981. It has some rhythm patterns and a few preset sounds. It also has a little synthesizer function. MELLOTRON / NOVATRON T.550 / T550 / T 550 / / ORGAN / HD

via this auction

"It is one of the rarest Mellotrons in the world, as only 3 or 4 were ever made. This particular instrument was shown on the Frankfurt Musikmesse in 1982 but wasn't sold there. The story of the first owner (I am the second) is that he bought it when the Musikmesse was just finished. He bought the instrument in Frankfurt for quite a low price, as the makers didn't have to transport it back to the UK then. From 1982 until 2010 when I bought it it has hardly been used and was stored in a smokefree, clean and dry room. This explains why this instrument looks and sounds as it is a brand new one.

The first picture shows the instrument from above
The second picture shows the crate which I made for transport - with foam on the inside (yes, it is already in a flightcase but the flightcase is part of the instruments value, so I don't want scratches on it
The third picture shows an original ad for the T550
The last one shows my rehearsal room with the Novatron in the far right corner (the black flightcase)

I have also made some recordings and videos of the instrument during the short period I had it: [above]
Church Organ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7j1g04BAYU
8choir: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gLZaFPNocc
MKII Flute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9W2b88iPbQ

String Section; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOkkd8kwHOs
MKII Violins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1xlmN8QKIU

And this is a demo video of this Novatron T550: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHUpRIrFngI

In these videos, the first instrument you'll see is not the Novatron, but my Vako Orchestron. Don't mix these two up! A Mellotron uses tapes, an Orchestron uses discs with waveforms on it.

In this auction, apart from the instrument itself, you will get the two original tapeframes who were sold with the instrument (and presumably used to demo the instrument in Frankfurt)
Frame 1 = Church Organ, Male/female choir, Male choir/Oboe mix
Frame 2= Cello, Flute, Choir mix.

You can also bid on the two other tapeframes I am selling (search ebay for Mellotron tape frame)
You'll also get the original swell pedal, and original manuals and ads."

Geo Synthesizer for iOS Released

GeoSynth featured in numerous videos by YouTube user rrr00bb (aka Rob Fielding, creator of Mugician) is now available.

"Geo Synthesizer is a musical instrument and MIDI controller. A collaboration of Wizdom Music's Jordan Rudess and Kevin Chartier (MorphWiz, SampleWiz) and Rob Fielding (Mugician), Geo Synthesizer is an incredibly expressive musical instrument specifically created for a multitouch surface.

Jordan says: "Since touching a preliminary piano keyboard on an iPhone screen and realizing the amazing potential for musical expression on a multitouch device, I have been inspired to create next-generation musical instruments for iOS. Geo Synthesizer is a dream come true in many ways. It is the fastest truly playable iOS instrument that I have put my hands on to date. I can fly through the range of an instrument while expanding on the kind of advanced pitch control we introduced in MorphWiz. As someone who grew up with synthesizers, I can tell you that pitch bending has never been this good!

"Geo features many of my custom sounds and in addition, Geo is also a MIDI controller, so you can use it with any external midi instrument or virtual MIDI. Virtual MIDI allows you to control an app running in the background on the same device! A great feature of Geo is that internally and externally we send independent voices on each note played, so as an example, you can pitch bend one note and not the other, or add unique expression on every note! I can't wait to see the YouTube videos of all of you guys rocking out with Geo Synthesizer!!!"

Features:
- ability to load waveforms from SampleWiz presets
- octave rounding for effortless soloing over large ranges
- whammy slider with absolute and relative modes
- 12ET, 24ET, 53ET, and 665ET temperament options
- mono, string, and full-polyphony modes
- tuning and transposition controls
- snap speed control to affect how quickly the instrument pulls notes in tune
- playing surface options for number of rows and columns on screen
- octave and fifth harmonics synthesis options to rich, organ-like sounds
- gain control to add distortion to the sound
- FM and touch FM controls for timbal variation
- mono out for use with guitar amps
- sine, sawtooth, square, and custom (SampleWiz) wave options
- attack and release controls
- synthesis body control
- lowpass filter with resonance
- stereo delay
- reverb
- MIDI output with polyphonic note bending and multiple configuration options to allow compatibility with a wide range of hardware and software synthesizers
- performance menu lets you make your own custom menu so all the controls you need are always right at your fingertips
- 40 presets carefully selected by Jordan Rudess, including patches from Jordan's personal sound library"

"Northern Mirror, composite video Noho THeatre Group's 2011 July 18th production"

via otoskope who brought us the bugbrand and Palle Dahlstedt custom pencil interface videos here.
"In July I made a collaboration with traditional Japanese dancers and musicians, and this is one of the performances. The NoHo Theatre Company in Kyoto commissioned a piece, and I chose the title Northern Mirror, and composed it in my studio. In Kyoto, director Jonah Salz together with me and the performers created a story around my title, and then performed it at the beautiful Oe Noh-gakudo, one of Kyoto's oldest Noh Theatres.

The electronic pre-recorded part was made from alternate-playing piano sounds, and then processed in a Nord Modular G2, using evolutionary algorithms and custom gestural mappings to control the parameters of complex shuffling algorithms."

otoskope also let me know that the stages are sacred. You have to wear special socks placed in front of it and no electronic devices are allowed on stage. Speakers were discretely placed in front which made monitoring the acoustic musicians a challenge.

The round buttons are an early form of preset. The 6 red buttons provide presets from a violin & trumpet to bagpipes & an arabian flute.

DKNG GLOW IN THE DARK MOOG Modular Art

via DKNG Studios

"It’s that time of year again. Moogfest 2011 is just around the corner and we were once again asked to create a print for this year’s group art show SYNTH, a showcase of hand made limited edition screen prints inspired by Bob Moog’s legacy.

Since last year’s print was such a success [see this post], we decided to create an all new giant Moog synthesizer, with the addition of some new bells and whistles. This year’s print is a 24″ x 18″ four color screen print and has a limited edition of 100. The graphics go full bleed, we created a DKNG moog parody logo, and to top it all off, it glows in the dark. The best part is the glow ink spells out the name MOOG which is composed of the buttons and knobs from the artwork.

The print will be available for purchase in our online store starting November 1st."
