"This filter is based on the korg Fk-1 pedal. It shared the same topology as the other Korg filters found in the 800dv and 700, but used 4 vactrols........oh!

Probably good to wear headphones or listen to this thru a good set of speakers, this filter has a LOT of character.
This recording was made from the very 1st time I tested this PCB, so haven't yet tweaked any values to get optimal CV ranges and Q response."

"Up for sale is a vintage EML ElectroComp 500 synthesizer / keyboard with a hard case. It is in fair cosmetic condition; lots of scratches and flaws consistent with heavy, not-always-careful use. The photos tell the story; there's nothing worse than what's pictured here. I've just been through it, and functionally I'd say it's in fair-to-good condition. Key contacts are all good with the exception of the D above middle C, which will need to be cleaned (it often fires on release as well as initial contact). It needs to be scaled. The sliders are all pretty quiet and move freely, though they feel a little inconsistent and gritty. Filter sweeps are reasonably linear and clean, and sample & hold functionality is excellent. As is, it makes the Devo 'Whip It' noise with grace and ease, and you can play Weezer solos until the end of time. With a bit of work it could be very, very nice; it's definitely all there."

"If you're looking at this listing, you likely know about the MIDI Moog: the internals of a vintage Moog model D placed into a light, convenient rack with MIDI In / Through. This unit is in excellent cosmetic condition (nearly mint), with only slight paint wear on the rack ears. More importantly, the synth is in excellent working condition, and sounds incredible. It's easy to quickly dial in sounds ranging from sweet to raunchy, creamy to biting - all the sounds that a vintage Minimoog is capable of, because it is a vintage Minimoog!"

"Classic analogue 8-voice synthesizer, one of about 400 manufactured during the early 1980’s. This particular specimen has been thru extensive repairs and is offered in full working order. The Kenton MIDI kit is installed offering both MIDI IN and OUT (key information only). The J.L.Cooper Poly MOD has also been installed providing similar sound creation functionality to Sequential’s Prophet synths of the same era. Also included is the 3 * patch memory option giving 96 locations to store user programs. Bank A has been programmed with a good selection of factory sounds with the remaining banks B & C free. This old girl is offered in great condition, plays great and most importantly sounds incredible."

Dreadbox Hades Bass Synth Review

Published on Dec 29, 2015 ProckGnosis

"Review of the Dreadbox Hades Bass Synthesizer, broken down into 4 parts:
Part 1. Oscillators (02:29)
Part 2. The Filter (04:29)
Part 3. The Drive Knob (08:06)
Part 4. The Rest (09:46)

Included in Part 4 is some screwing around with some bass sounds that starts at 11:04.

I mention it a couple times in the video, but this synth is in no way limited to just bass synth duties, though it does fill that niche quite well. And unlike the Moog Minotaur (which is strangely limited from playing in higher ranges), you CAN play higher octaves with the Hades.

Great construction quality, great sound, and great price (around $300 or 300 euros), and (not shown in the video) it excellently complements my Dreadbox Erebus, even connecting as a third paraphonic voice."

One Half Of One Million

Published on Dec 28, 2015 John L Rice

Congrats to John L Rice!

"Another bit of messing around, this time with a lot of Modcan modules.

The 'sequence' was created with all 4 outputs of a Modcan 66B Control into to two Modcan 55B quantizers whose output fed 4 Synth Tech MOTM-300 VCOs. The VCO saw outputs were passed through 2 Happy Nerding FUN VCFs for a little fixed filtering and then on to a Modcan 31B quad VCA which was controlled by a Modcan 60B quad EG and the mixed output of the VCA was run through a Modcan 73B dual delay before getting to the final line mixer, a Samson SM10. The EG and quantizers were gated by a Moon Modular 568+568A trigger sequencer setup and the 568 and 73B were clocked from a Modcan 53B clock.

The Mellotron M4000D was noodled by hand but while some of its output went right to the SM10 mixer, it was also routed out to a Modcan 40B dual multimode VCF, that was being modulated by a Synth Tech MOTM-380 LFO, and the 40B's output was sent through a Club Of The Knobs (COTK) C1660 VC Phase Processor before returning to two inputs on the SM10 mixer.

Strymon BigSky and Roland RSP-550 reverbs were used on the SM10 mixer's effects loops and a little bit of reverb plug-in was used in Sony Music Studio during editing.

Thank you again everyone! :-) I hope to do a lot more in 2016 including increasing performance and production quality and maybe even finally getting one or more albums released . . . FINALLY! ;-) Have a happy and productive New Year, all!"

Ginko Synthese Sampleslicer Eurorack Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"What does the Sampleslicer do?

The Sampleslicer is a real-time monophonic sampler, including a 16 step voltage-controlled sequencer. The incoming sound is chopped up automatically into 16 parts by the incoming clock signal and spread out over the16 steps in the internal sequencer.

How long can it sample?

The length of the recorded sample is set by a clock-divider, so the recording time is always linked to the incoming clock signal. You can choose between time divisions of 1, ½, ⅓, ¼ and ⅛.

If the divider is set to 1 the total sample time is equal to 16 incoming clock-pulses.

If set to ½ the sample length is equal to 8 incoming clock-pulses, spread over 16 slices (so half the time). It will produce even more glitchy fun when set to ⅓, as it will spread 6 steps over 16 slices. The maximum sample time is about 15 seconds and the minimum sample time is a fraction of a second for granular noises."

-adds new feature to change the sample by CV
-the threshold for changing samples corresponds to 1 semitone of quantized voltage
-if CV changes the sample is changed at the threshold or is changed only at the rising gate signal (depending on the mode)
-minor UI bug fixes
-more stable
-improved stability when functioning with SPA"

Sequential Prophet 6 - Step Sequencer Overview

Published on Dec 27, 2015 ProckGnosis

"Basic overview of the step sequencer from the Prophet 6 module, which, I'm happy to report, is AMAZINGLY simple to use, and it's fairly similar to the Moog 37 for easy programming. And according to Dave Smith, the module offers the EXACT same capabilities as the keyboard, minus the keys and bit of the price.

Not addressed at ALL in the video, is how AWESOME sounding this synth is! If I had one dream synth as a young'un it was a Prophet 5. For a VERY thorough review of the Prophet 6, check out a series of vids from Marc Doty at AutomaticGainsay. [you can find them here.]

I actually got the Sequential Prophet 6 a few weeks ago (an early Christmas present), but I couldn't leave it under the tree, and I've been playing with it instead (new Dreadbox Hades synth DID arrive to go under the tree and opened on Christmas morn!! Review of that is in the works).

Cheers!"

via this auction

"For sale is this vintage (early 70s) Logan String Melody. This is the much rarer Mark One model, and is also the only example I've ever seen which isn't built into its own flight case, which leads me to believe that it's probably one of the very first ones made.

It's not in fantastic visual condition, with dings and scuffs all over it, and the metal plate on the control panel peeling away, but it's complete and it sounds gorgeous. There's plenty of information and demos available elsewhere online if you want to hear it for yourself.

Functionally the only two faults to mention are that the low G key doesn't sound the Perc., Bass or Cello, but still sounds with Viola and Violin added to the mix, and also the very top C key doesn't sound at all. These are both likely to be dirty contacts but I've never bothered looking into it any further as it's never caused me any problems.

Selling only due to lack of space and my recent purchase of a Korg PE-2000, which has rendered the Logan somewhat obsolete. I'd rather let it go and let someone else get some use out of it."

Here is a link to a You Tube Video demo, [embed above]

MORE INFO:

The Vox Guitar Organ was one of the most complicated and innovative products attempted by JMI Vox in the 1960s. The brain child of Vox lead engineer Dick Denney, the Guitar Organ added solid state organ circuitry derived from the Vox Continental organ to a Vox Phantom guitar. This allowed the Guitar Organ to be played as a guitar or an organ, either separately or combined.
The Vox Guitar Organ had six organ tone generator circuits built into a cavity in the guitar body, one generator for each of the six strings. The contacts that trigger the organ circuits to play were found in the frets of the guitar. Each fret on the guitar neck had six electronic contacts, one under each string. The circuit to the organ tone generator was completed when any of the guitar strings, which were grounded, were depressed to touch their respective fret mounted contact.

The organ tone generators developed different pitches based on the number of ohms separating the organ tone generator input signal from ground. The higher the electrical resistance, the lower the tone.

To facilitate the production of the correct organ pitch for each location on the neck, a series of twenty one resistors interconnected the twenty one fret contacts under each string, one resistor per fret. Depressing a string on the first (or lowest) fret would cause the signal to travel through all twenty one resistors before triggering the organ tone generator. Hypothetically, if each resistor was 100 ohms, the total accumulated resistance from the first fret contact to the tone generator would be 2100 ohms. This high resistance would make the lowest tone. Depressing the same string on the twelfth fret would require the signal to travel through only 9 resistors, or 900 ohms. This lower resistance would make a much higher tone. Playing on the highest fret would eliminate all but one resistor, and make the highest tone.

A remote power supply (seen at lower left) provided the necessary voltages to operate the organ circuitry and connected to the instrument with a multi pin connector cable."
