"Sound designer James Jaret Kojac of Denver invited me over to take a first look and listen to one of the first Tempest's to be released into the wild. James has nit #0026 which he got early so he could contribute to factory libraries. This is a video of James jamming with some of his sounds and really shows off the range and performance aspects of the DSI Tempest analog Drum Machine"

Vintage Sync Sync-Gen II.mp4

YouTube Uploaded by innerclock2004 on Oct 6, 2011

"Many pre-Midi Drum Machines and Step Sequencers use DC Voltage Pulses for external syncronisation. There was no 24 PPQ (Pulses Per Quarter Note) standard in those days so manufacturers used whatever they felt suited their design and most of them were very particular about what pulses they would (or wouldn't!) lock to.

We've had many requests in recent times about the best way to sync these vintage gems to modern computer DAW applications. This basic video shows how easy and tight it is when you use the Sync-Gen II system. To start with you see the Sync-Gen IILE. The Din Sync output is connected to a simple breakout adapter box (email us for details on how to make your own) -- this lets us get access to the raw analogue DC sync pulses being generated by Sync-Gen II. From here I feed the analogue sync pulses via a single cable to the LinnDrum Sync-In socket. Next you see the Sync-Gen II screen where I have set the Global Rate to 48 PPQ which is what the LinnDrum likes to see. I then press play on Ableton Live and you hear the LinnDrum pattern play perfectly locked with an audio click as reference. I then open up two more audio tracks just so you get a feel for the overall pattern. The same principle applies to any vintage hardware sequencer or drum machine -- just change the PPQ Rate in Sync-Gen II to suit. You get zero-latency precision sync plus you can swing, program and stutter the playback too."

Solvent Monotribe thru Modular Mayhem

YouTube Uploaded by s0LVentCIty on Oct 6, 2011

"Hello my name is Solvent and I like to process to machines through other machines. Here I am processing a Korg Monotribe through a couple of Eurorack modules: the WMD Geiger Counter, and the Pittsburg Modular Analog Delay. The Monotribe is also clocking a Make Noise Brains + 2x Pressure Points sequencer setup - this is triggering a Make Noise MATHS AD envelope, which is modulating the PMAD's delay time via the Rate CV In. Occasionally I press a Pressure Point, which freezes the sequence, allowing the delay time to run freely. At one point, I plug one of the PP's sequencer rows into the WMD-GC's Wave Table CV In."

Nestle "Sweet Dreams" Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 w Poly Sequencer

via this auction

"Purchased in 1981, this rev 3.3 underwent many modifications including a reinforced heat sync and a MIDI install. It was just (Summer 2011) overhauled by 3 Wave Music in NJ. Among other things, all the key bushings were replaced. The cabinet is in good condition. Used primarily in the '80's as a composition tool, the synth was pretty much in the case for the last 18-20 years. It is now working perfectly, loaded with 120 factory programs. Also included is a SC Poly Sequencer purchased in 1984. This too was worked on and is in good condition. Lastly, an Anvil Road Case, also recently re-foamed, is included. This synth has a lot of sentimental value to me, since I composed many successful pieces of music on it including CBS Sports College Football (still running) and the Nestle "Sweet Dreams" commercial which ran 1985-90. via this auction

"RSF Kobol Expander II, an ideal partner for your RSF Kobol Expander but also just as easily integrated into a vintage modular or semi-modular synth system such as those from ARP, Moog, EMS, Roland, etc as well as modern modular synthesiser systems from the likes of MOTM, Synthesizers.com, Analogue Systems, Analogue Solutions, Doepfer, & all the Eurorack variety...

These Expander systems were made by Ruben & Serge Fernandez of the RSF Synthesizer Company in France from 1979-81. It uses an SSM 2050 chip for the envelope generator as well as other rare IC's from that era alongside analogue circuit design.

Certainly vintage, it seems the Fernandez brothers were inspired by the Moog & Oberheim synths of the day but as the vintage synth crew know all too well, RSF instruments had a character all of their own, with some unique features that allow for amazing flexibility, especially on the Expanders, thanks mainly to extensive Control Voltage (CV) implementation for all the modules within the unit, as evidenced by the number of jack sockets around the edges- 40 in total. (Note these are for 1/4" jacks & have been cleaned.)

There were only around 200 of these synth Expanders made so certainly a VERY RARE item.

Effectively 10 analogue synth expander modules housed in a 4U 19" rack. (Not including the multiples.)

Contains the following modules:

1 Ring Modulator
1 ADSR envelope

1 Sample & Hold (S&H)
1 Noise Generator

Moog Filtered Ale Brewing in October

It's back! via The Bob Moog Foundation:
"Asheville Brewing Company and the Bob Moog Foundation are proud to announce the release of the second limited edition of Moog Filtered Ale, a pale beer named in honor of synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog. The two organizations partnered in 2010, releasing the first edition to international acclaim. The Ale will be available October 6, 2011, through November 7, 2011. Proceeds from the sale of the beer will be donated to the Bob Moog Foundation to benefit their mission of igniting the innovative and creative through science, music and history. The timing of the beer’s release coincides with Moogfest, the three-day electronic music festival to be held in Asheville, N.C., on October 28, 29, and 30, 2011.

Moog Filtered Ale is an American-style pale ale with distinctive notes of caramel and pine. It will be distributed nationally and internationally in 22-ounce bottles through Asheville’s Bruisin’ Ales and will be distributed locally by Budweiser of Asheville at various locations throughout Western North Carolina, on draft and in 22-ounce bottles.

Asheville Brewing has been making outstanding craft beers since 1998 and has won several awards for its beers. As an active supporter of local non-profit groups, they are thrilled to be working with the Bob Moog Foundation, whose work is innovative and historical. Through Moog Filtered Ale, Asheville Brewing aims to support the interactive educational programs that the Foundation is developing to teach science through music, as well as to support the eventual creation of the Moogseum.

Asheville Brewing Company President Mike Rangel says, “We are honored to be working with the Bob Moog Foundation again this year to help keep Bob’s vision and legacy alive. By donating the profits from Moog Filtered Ale, we will be supporting innovative science education through the Foundation’s Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool outreach program. Moog Filtered Ale is absolutely the most exciting project our company has been involved in, and after the success of last year’s collaboration, we couldn’t wait to do it again this year.”

The Bob Moog Foundation is extremely proud and grateful to be partnering with Asheville Brewing Company again this year. The funding from last year’s sales of Moog Filtered Ale was of tremendous assistance in helping us reach our goals. As a result, our programs are thriving and our organization is stronger than ever. Purchasing Moog Filtered Ale is a very tasty way for people to support both the work of the Bob Moog Foundation and Asheville Brewing Company, a small business that supports many local non-profit organizations all year long.

The label for the Ale is an original design by Asheville artist Phil Cheney. Featuring vibrant shades of purple, green, and orange, the label shows Bob Moog leaning over a keyboard with musical notes, synthesizer knobs, and patch cables floating above his head.

A line of t-shirts and other merchandise featuring the label will be available through www.shop.ashevillebrewing.com beginning October 10."

YouTube Uploaded by salzmanufaktur on Oct 6, 2011

"Just found a new .ens in the Reaktor User Lib: Silverbird. It's a pretty cool sample-based drum machine w/ some decent FX 'n filters and a damned good distortion unit (which makes it perfect for any Hardcore styles!). It also has 3 sequencers for pitch, decay and the sample selection.
Registered Reaktor user can d/l it for free: http://is.gd/ThleNX"
