+ Haxxor HR-16 - An evening of Glitch, Damage & Distortion for Sampling (Jan 2014)
Published on Jan 31, 2014 HAXXOR AUDIO·40 videos
"Haxxed & Circuit Bent ALESIS HR-16 Drum Machine -
'High Resolution' Glitch, Distortion & Damage. Powerful sounds indeed...
The HR-16 is a master of fierce digital distortion, and can produce some of the meanest beats you're ever likely to hear. It's kinda like the ED-209 of digital drum machines...
It has a whole range of different uniquely electronic sounding Damage and Gate Effects. Add these with the Tones, Ring-Mods, Glitch / Weirdness, and use the Step-Sequencers to 'program' complex patterns of Effects and Modulation.
Use the Switches/Rotary Switch to - Twist, Warp, Mangle, Scramble, Disrupt & Distort the 'High Resolution' ALESIS HR-16 Drum Machine....
This machine has been fitted with a sophisticated Step-Sequencer & Pattern-Generator, which provides patchable effects & Modulation. Complex Patterns & Fills can be Cut/Dropped on demand with a single switch. The Step Sequencers can also be used to modulate and trigger other suitable gear (more on this in a later vid).
I have some interesting ideas that I want to try out on a fresh unit, so this particular machine is going on ebay in a day or two.

The shortwave radio is coming from the internet thanks to the Wide Band SDR made available to the public by the University of Twente (Netherlands), all the rest is performed at the modular synthesizer Make Noise.
The performance still is not perfect, the helmet does not make life easy while reading the score and using the synthesizer, nevertheless this recording is a step ahead in my understanding of this piece.
I hope you will enjoy it.
Please take with some humour.

"Here's a quick tour of Spektrumsynth 2 Reaktor Ensemble. Additional videos will cover the instrument in more detail. One of the key features of Spektrumsynth is the intense modulation routing. The 'Animator Pad' is directly linked to the main target parameters, with additional routing through Grand Central Station. Pad movements are recordable and polyphonically activated, reminiscent of Rob Papen's Blade instrument. Synthesis types include wavetable, granular, fixed waveform, FM and tuned noise."

Published on Jan 31, 2014 AutomaticGainsay·195 videos
"The instruments in the Volca series are excellent individually, but they can also be combined to create a miniature electronic studio.
When I first acquired the Volca series, I combined them, improvised sequences, and then shot myself improvising manipulation of those sequences. That is the origin of these 3 Volcas Combined videos.
In the right hands and with a little practice, some great music can come out of these as a set. Don't let my little experiments fool you. ;)
Because I got tired of looking at my face, I have created weird visual narratives from vintage educational films to go along with these songs.
Please forgive me for the sloppy mixes... in haste, I ran them all through a single mixer for recording during performance.
Thanks for watching!"

"The Yamaha CS30L is as close to a modular synth as you can get. Though she can be coaxed into creating simple leads and basses, this synth is frightening!
She makes a beautiful piece of furniture and is responsible for absolutely bizarre/unique noises.
I really cannot emphasise that enough: you can record truly disturbing noises from her! The cross-modulation capabilities are able to be stacked,
this means that you can have VCO1 as a source for Ring Modulation on VCO2, then VCO2 can be used to frequency modulate VCO1.
The ability to produce a feedback loop by plugging a lead from the headphone output into the audio input, results in further mayhem.
You can affect the LFO speed (which goes well into audio range) with any of the 3 envelope generators, which is brilliant for producing dropping pitch drum sounds.
Because of the vast palette of sounds on offer, I have found it difficult to be creative with her in a productive way.
My experience of being sat down at the CS30L, is to slowly coax ever more awkward noises out of her, entranced.
I almost always end up putting the portamento on the maximum time and playing the highest, then lowest keyboard note in slow sequence,
listening to the sound develop and evolve in a hypnotic state. This may be helpful to you… I don’t appear to be able to walk the line of subtlety and instead end up creating
noises of the apocalypse rather than music."

"The Mini was professionally serviced a few months ago including re-capping of the power supply and cards, new keyboard bushings, and tuning and scaling.
This Mini is the 325th one ever built.
It sounds amazing, and plays great.
As with all of the first few hundred made, it has the original metal face plates and clear modulation and pitch wheels.
This Mini has served me faithfully for years.
There are a few useful modifications:
-The oscillator card has been replaced with the more stable version(all the other cards are the original R.A. Moog cards)
-The S-Trig input has been replaced with a 1/4" input that accepts standard Gate/Trigger for easier interface with external controllers
-There is a two-way switch that shifts the CV control of the oscillators from the keyboard to the external CV Input
There is also the remnants of one mod that was probably installed before the newer Oscillator board was installed.
You can see it on the side where the two holes that are labeled 'High' and 'Low' are."

Unfortunately there is a ton of clipping in this video. The input was a bit too high. I opted to go ahead an post this as you can still get a feel for the synth and there isn't any clipping on some parts. You are going to have to use your imagination for most of this one. I can attest there was zero clipping coming from the synth itself and it sounded absolutely amazing. If you can bear through the clipping there are some definite sweet spots.

MATRIXSYNTH NAMM 2014: Noise Engineering Booth Module Overviews & Demo
Uploaded on Jan 30, 2014 matrixsynth·286 videos
http://www.noiseengineering.us
Modules featured include the Ataraxic Translatron, Basimiuls Iteritas, Variatic Sequent and Loquelic Iteritas. Details on each captured further below for the archives. Directly below is a direct audio in demo.
"The Ataraxic Translatron is a linear feedback shift register oscillator similar to those used in the first generation of home video game consoles such as the Atari VCS as well as many other classic arcade games.
Linear feedback shift registers are an ingenious way to produce a variety of sounds with an extremely small amount of hardware. The Atari VCS used only around 35 logic gates to produce all of its sounds. The complexity of tone for relatively minimal hardware made this synthesis technique common for sound in the first generation of video games where hardware costs were the primary development constraint. As video games entered popular culture these sounds became iconic but have seldom made it out of the video game world except when sampled from the games themselves or as their own genre of music “chiptunes”. The Ataraxic Translatron gives you classic arcade sounds in Eurorack format to be used just like any other VCO.
13 patches vary from a simple square wave to white noise with your favorite arcade sounds in between. All tones are available in 6 octaves range. A standard 1 volt per octave pitch control and CV control of the current patch are squeezed into a compact 4HP. An external clock mode that allows an external clock to drive the shift register allows for additional tone generation and modulation.
Please note that Noise Engineering has no affiliation with Atari and the use of the word Atari is as an example of a classic product that uses a similar sound generation algorithm."

"This is an auction for a very cool and styling LFO Synth/Noise Box
This is a brand new circuit made and enclosed into the spongebob case
The circuit is fully tested and stable. It can be mixed into other effects or amps but beware as it is very loud and awesomely noisy!
The main power for the circuit is applied by a 9v center negative power supply (not included)
Toggle switch on left side is the power.
Turning off the circuit discharges a large capacitor and in turn makes the oscillators sputter as the voltage dies.
This can also be simulated with the Red Pot in the center that controls the voltage in.
The synth has 2 stages LEFT and RIGHT and each stage corresponds to the stereo out guitar jack on the back right of the case
There is also 2 mono outputs one for LEFT and RIGHT
The main LFOs are controlled by the Pots on either side of the Volt. Pot.
The Left Pot controls the LEFT LED and also modulates the 2 oscillators that are also on the LEFT stage
These other OSCs are controlled by a momentary push button. Hold on to make the OSC mix to the output. While holding the push button you can vary the light coming into the photocell above the button. This is a cool photo theremin like effect that creates a really cool wah-wah sound
The RIGHT STAGE LFO/LEDs/OSCs act in the same way as described above for the LEFT STAGE.
This Unit is sold as-is with no returns. This is because it is an open source circuit that allows the buyer to go in and prod around if you like.
This is a very cool interface that could be used by electronic artists or noise performers. It is also useful for samples or just scaring the crap out of your neighbors and pets!
I am currently an Electronic Engineering student and have been designing/building/hacking/selling custom interfaces for the last 5 years."

Elby Designs AVR Synth 16 Review on modularsynth.ru

via Dimitry on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge
"Yet another Elby Designs module reviewed: this time it is 16-bit version of well-known AVR Synth. It is available since 2005, but I didn't find any really detailed review, so I decided to translate my Russian article about DIY-kit, history of the instrument and some projects-successors."
"The AVRSYN project was started by Polish experimentalist Jaroslaw Ziembicki in the year 2002 as the experiment of making a complete synth on single chip. I’d like to say that slavic people are talented with low-level programming and can get 250% efficiency from obsolete technologies. Initially, the synthesizer was built around 16-bit Atmel AT90S8535 MCU. In 2005—2006 project was continued by Paul Maddox and Laurie Biddulph. Eventually, they developed the PCB, the program code was ported to modern ATMEGA16-8 and the comments were translated to English. At the same time, Biddulph started to sell synthesizer as the Elby Designs product that is still available today.
The project was developed to number of forks like 32-version made by Daniel Kruszina. His version has extended functionality, partial MIDI-control and even the wavetables. This version is also available at Elby Designs. In 2010, James Grahame with a few friends and also, supported by the original developers, made a completely new project, that is called MeeBlip..."
