Rare Vangelis Zyklus MPS (Midi Performance System) with OLED Display Upgrade

"Zyklus MPS (Midi Performance System) with OLED display upgrade (modification). There are only 40 of these in existence and I found this one on eBay, with a dim display but otherwise is very good condition. Back in 1988 this retailed for £1995 and wasn’t well understood and did not therefore enter a big production run. Its basically a ‘midi’ scratchpad in the studio and performance tool for live use. It’s famous because Vangelis hired the inventors of Zyklus, Bill Marshall and and Pete Kellock to develop a system exclusively for him - “Direct” which gave rise to the album 'Direct'.

"My Oberheim OB-1 was recently serviced by This Old Synth in San Jose, CA. This video is just running through some of the features, including cross-modulation, presets, 12/24 dB/oct filter, modulation sources, sub-oscillators, pulse width modulation, and a few other things.

I found this OB-1 at a shop in Portland, OR, and it had a number of issues. This Old Synth straightened it all out (figuratively and literally) and now she plays like new.

The OB-1 is a cool piece of synthesizer history. It's a monophonic programmable analog synthesizer with two oscillators, each switchable between sawtooth and pulse waveforms, and each with an independent sub-oscillator. Plus discrete electronics, a very early form of programmer, great-sounding 2- and 4-pole switchable filter, and a handful of unique features, all with circuitry that comes straight from the classic Oberheim SEM modules, make this monophonic analog synthesizer worthy of the Oberheim name."

The reason is that the Pitch Stick of every G2 keyboard vibrates still a bit when suddenly released and thus generates small amounts of pitch data. The foam stops this. 808 Pro was designed and hand built by a Chinese DIY synth fan - Puimen. It is not just another clone of Roland TR-808 or another AIRA like VA or vst in a box. It is purely a analog drum machine without providing any internal dsp effect, 909 mod and other unnecessary functions as for a analog synth fan. But it does provide a complete recreation the analog sound of Roland 808 drum machine. Except for the traditional midi and sequence functions, 808 Pro was added in with two digital controlled filter, of which the filter circuit (SSM2044) from famous Korg Mono/Poly. The stereo filter can be step sequential controlled in order to generate step filter stereo effect.

At this moment, Puimen is still testing and modifying 808 Pro. Now it is only engineer sample, no silkscreen, even knobs not fully attached. We hope the machine could be ready for oversea shipment from China in late 2014. Pricing is to be determined yet. But Puimen promised that the pricing should give most of synth fans a great surprise."
