The next Saturday starts again the well-known dinosaurs meeting in bocholt, close to the Dutch border. A Synthesizer Treff by and with a lot of synthesizer enthusiasts. A large number of old and new honey are exhibited and can be served. So something for the eyes, ears and fingers. Entrance is at 17:00 AM FOR BACK 5 €. "This converts trigger hits or audio signals into clock pulses. The clock output works with devices that accept a 5V pulse. For example using this with a sequencer results in the sequencer taking one step per hit. This can interface simply with drum machines or DAWs by simply panning a click track out to one side and sending that to the Clock Trigger and panning the rest of your sounds to the other side.

With control over trigger input sensitivity you can tune it to work with various piezo input methods and a pulse length control lets you filter out phantom hits that would otherwise result in multiple unwanted clock pulses.

Turning the pulse length all the way up activates a second mode that lets you use trigger hits to turn on and off a 5V signal. This can be used with the CV input of devices like the Maximal Drone to work as a trigger controlled on/off.

The trigger input is 1/4″ and the clock output is 1/8″. There is an LED to indicate power as well as a 2nd LED that gives a visual representation of the clock output. It is powered by an included internal 9-volt battery or any 9V Center-Negative DC adapter. Connecting a power supply will automatically disconnect and reserve the battery. This was designed and hand-built in Oakland, California.

"Being largely a collection of some sounds on the ace little Roland Boutique JP08 I programmed in the car on a motorway, demoed through a touch of Valhalla Vintageverb. Thoughts on it below:

I think it's ace. The sliders have a tiny throw - they're 10mm. That's not much, but personally speaking, they're not at all 'unusable' either, as some commenters have pre-judged it to be before it was even in shops. Unusable means the machine is just that, and it just isn't. If you feel like complaining about it, you can go ahead and make your own better version. Sure, it can be tricky to absolutely nail a setting in certain circumstances, and for live performance it might not be ideal, but for a studio (or car) setting I had no problem whatsoever programming it. I suggest you reserve judgement till you've actually tried it in person, if you haven't.

In terms of sound I don't have a Jupiter 8 to compare it to, if you want to know if it's like half of a real Jupiter 8. There's a slight feeling of over-perfection to its sound, pitch stability, in that the original will never really be absolutely in tune, and that absolutely impacts the sound, but all I can assure you is that this is a genuinely impressive sounding thing, and frankly is more than 'close enough'. If there was anything I'd like it'd be a 'stability' setting to make it a bit wonkier. Anyway I think you'd probably struggle to pick it out from the real thing in a double blind, and anyway all that really matters is it's an inspiring sounding voice, very flexible, and to have all that flexibility in a box that's so tiny you literally can shove it in a carry bag and take it on holiday along with your laptop...that's cool. That's really cool.

Roland are to be congratulated for bringing this back in any form frankly, and here's crossing fingers for more ace Jupiter 8 inspired gear to come."

"Here is a beautiful Moog Model D Minimoog from 1972. The serial number is 1735 making it the 735th minimoog made. I’m the second owner and I bought the synthesizer from a friend in 1982. I don’t think that he took it out much from his home studio. I never took it out of my studio except to move to a new studio location. The unit is in (want to say perfect) extremely good working condition and very good physical condition considering it is about 44 years old. My tech and I went through the unit to physically align the keyboard (many mini keyboards are really wavy, guess I didn’t play this one enough) and to clean the connectors for the pitch/mod wheel section since the Glide switch would occasionally stay on, but now works correctly. Other than that we couldn’t find anything else wrong to fix. Th synth stays in tune and doesn't drift. Included is a heavy-duty flight case, which I refurbished with new PE (polyethylene, the good stuff) foam to make it like brand new inside. If you check the sold minimoogs on ebay you’ll see a range of sell prices up to and over over $6000 or more for ones of this vintage. $4495. Don’t be afraid to shoot me an offer."

Roland had already mesmerised us with their SYSTEM-500 eurorack series, which will be a full analog series as opposed to AIRA modules released so far. These modules are based on the classic SYSTEM-700 and SYSTEM-100M modules - the classic Roland sound is finally back in eurorack.

The workshop will be held by Vayo product manager from Roland Europe Group. FYI: space is limited in our showroom, so we recommend you to get there in time.

Each sound group has been individually reclocked with a LTC1799 precision oscillator module. It'd be a lot cheaper to use CMOS 555 timers, or probably a 40106 or two if you didn't mind a little crosstalk, but LTC1799's do seem to give a much better pitch response curve and seem to feel a little smoother somehow."
