New Analog Modeling Synth Coming from IK Multimedia on May 2nd - Hardware or Software?

"Something new is coming from the leader in analog modeling technology 25 April 2018

Get ready for a paradigm shift as IK Multimedia will unveil a brand new and exciting product on May 2nd, 2018!"

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

Hardware or software is the question. Analog modeling implies software, but that can be in hardware of course. Check out the demo teasers below. Be sure to enable audio via the speaker icon on the bottom right of each player after starting.

Volca FM: Deconstructed Electric Piano [Episode 53]

Published on Apr 27, 2018 CatSynth TV

"We demonstrate some of the programming features of the Korg Volca FM synthesizer by deconstructing the factory preset E Piano (from the original DX7 as well as every wedding and bar/bat mitzvah in the 1980s).

We go through some basic information of FM synthesis, show some deep-parameter editing, as well as real-time control and sequencing of algorithms. In a future video, we will show how to control such parameters from an external sequencer, something which was very challenging on the original Yamaha FM instruments.

Spring Tank Reverb Eurorack Prototype Module

Published on Apr 27, 2018 gstormelectro

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c.2018

Today I am showing my prototype Spring Tank Reverb module. It's a driver for old school spring tanks like those found in vintage mixers and guitar amplifiers. The driver module has controls for Drive, Tone brightness and darkness, wet/dry mix, and an input for sending CVs to control the wet/dry mix. I'm using an envelope for CV, Beatstep Pro for trigger sequencing, and beats are coming from the Future Retro Transient. I also run the signal through my dual channel compressor, using a trick where both channels are cascaded for additional compression. I also briefly punch in some delay from Timefactor. Audio was recorded direct to Tascam through a Mackie mixer."

:)

Two Instruments and two Oscillators in the Mixer section. Interesting. I'm guessing the Instruments are sample based. Or is it something different? That piano does sound good. What is that under Sync 1>2. Loop 1&2? Listen to how it morphs the sound. Crazy. Hmm...

Noise Engineering Clep Diaz insanity

Published on Apr 27, 2018 Noise Engineering

"What can you do with Clep Diaz?

What about with SIX CDs?

Clep Diaz is a handy and small step CV and LFO generator in Eurorack format. In step and random modes, use the encoder to control the number of steps (up to 32) in the sequence; in LFO mode, the encoder controls the amplitude of the wave. Toggle the directionality of the sequence: up, down, or up/down to customize the CVs further. The Clep Diaz also gives CV control over the number of steps in the sequence and a beginning-of-cycle trigger output. Unipolar and bipolar outputs allow maximal control.

Clep Diaz is available now -- why not pick one up when you preorder Mimetic Digitalis? You need all the CV control, right?"

Six voices, uncompromised flexibility

Ambika is a monster hybrid polysynth. Its design consists of a motherboard and 6 voicecards, each of them carrying a turbocharged version of the Shruthi hybrid synthesizer (digital waveform synthesis through analog VCF/VCAs). Whether you want to use this as six monosynths, a six-voice polysynth, or anything in-between is up to you: MIDI channels/keyboard range/patches/voices are distinct concepts, allowing complex layered, split, multitimbral setups. In addition, each voice has a switched individual output.Improved sound generation engine

"Twisted Electrons therapSID retro synthesizer. This synth takes over full control of everything the legendary SID synthesizer chip from the Commodore 64 has to offer! If you’re in to chiptune or just want to add some retro/ vintage sounds to your productions, this is the box for you!

The original therapSIDs were a very DIY feeling box and this one is no exception. These were assembled by Twisted Electrons in a very DIY style and the look of the box reflects that. The wood sides aren’t perfectly cut and the plastic case isn’t perfectly straight, but this unit is in the exact condition in which I received it, straight from Twisted Electrons."

Frap Tools - Fumana - Vocoding & Spectral Transfer

Published on Apr 27, 2018 DivKidVideo

"In this video with the Frap Tools Fumana I take a look at vocoding and spectral transfer. I have 3 analogue oscillators going into the main inputs and a drum loop into the modulation input. We can do full 16 band vocoding with this thing and it's amazing. A little modulation of tilt and adding extra amplitude to some bands sounds great as does taking one of the envelope follower outputs from the mod section and using that to clock a sequence."

Review - Pyramid vs. Hermod: Powerful Squarp sequencers explored

Published on Apr 27, 2018 loopop

"I got some questions about the case.... check it out here: https://www.through-u.com/

************************

Squarp is a company that specializes in making sequencers – Pyramid and Hermod are the only two products it makes. Pyramid, which has been around for a while, was designed for 'regular' MIDI compatible instruments (though it has a few CV inputs and outputs). Hermod, its smaller, modular brother - released a few months ago - was designed with Eurorack control in mind.

This focus shows, and both sequencers have a massive sequencing feature set: high resolution sequencing, long flexible pattern lengths, polymetry and polyrhythm support, Euclidean sequencing, plenty of MIDI effects and much more – all things you typically see in a DAW, not a standalone hardware sequencer, and certainly not the one built into your synth…

A flexible sequencer can completely transform what an instrument can do – your gear won't sound the same when it's controlled by these two. The question is – how easy is it to get to these features and use them? Successful user interface design makes powerful features accessible with a quick, usable workflow. In this clip I give an overview of the top features of both sequencers, and show how to actually use them, so that you can make up your mind if Squarp have successfully balanced power and usability.

This review includes some of the top new features in Pyramid's beta OS version 3.0, just released last week."

Elastic Drums Midi Sync improvements for Update 2.1.6 (V2)

Published on Apr 27, 2018 Oliver Greschke

"Elastic Drums got reworked on the Midi Sync engine, now allowing to deal with latencies even.
For better hearing sync issues between the 2 devices, Elastic Drums is panned hard to left and the Korg drum machine to the right.

For my use cases for ingoing Midi Sync a delay value around -30ms was good and +10ms for outgoing Midi Sync. But this might be totally different for different devices and different use cases"
