"Another machinedrum solo.
This time FM CYM takes the lead with a 3 voices polyphony.
FM CB splits in two detuned and extra wide voices to achieve a chorus/phased power bass.
BD and SD tracks double as a mono track and a stereo track with slightly different pitches to create a phasing bass and noise on the rythic part as well.
FM XT and CH does the rest.
CTR ALL machine takes care of the live manglings."

OCTAVE THE CAT Synthesizer - Sounds & Patches | Synth Demo

Published on Dec 18, 2019 synth4ever

"Demo of Octave The Cat analog synthesizer, featuring tweaking on various sounds and patches. Filmed at Paul's Boutique music shop (www.paulsboutique.ca) in Toronto, Canada.

Released in the 1970s, Octave the Cat is a monophonic/duophonic synth with 2 VCOs (2 sawtooth, 2 square wave, and 1 triangle) plus 2 sub-oscillators, 1 LFO, 1 VCA and 2 envelope generators (AR and ADSR). It also has some quirky modulation routings.

Both the original Cat and SRM Cat allow you to create some wild sounds including screaming leads, S&H patterns and noisy textures. It is a fun synth to explore as it offers a decent amount of sound design potential.

Octave The Cat is a classic synth similar in design to the Arp Odyssey, but with its own sonic flavor. If you have the chance to try one out, definitely give it a go."

KORG's Tatsuya ‘Tats’ Takahashi Returns to KORG as CEO of KORG Germany

"KORG Germany is the new Berlin subsidiary of KORG.

Our instruments will be developed not only by the core team we are building, but also through per project partnerships and collaborations.

We are the flux, and the fabric it passes through.

TATSUYA TAKAHASHI

They are hiring.

Tats is credited with bringing back analog at KORG, so this will be interesting. It's worth noting Behringer recently hired KORG's Hiroaki Nishijima.

MOS-LAB's Custom ARP 2500 System Clone

Two pics in via M Me.

This is a new custom system. New modules and new modulation matrix sliders on top and bottom. Rumor is that MOS-LAB not be selling systems with the modulation matrix, so modules only? If so, will they have patch points? These don't. All patching is done with the matrix switches you see on the top and bottom rows in these images. You can find additional posts featuring the ARP 2500 here.

You might remember mention of MOS-LAB creating a 2500 clone back in July here. An ARP 1026 Preset/Voltage Module Clone recently came up for sale. Not sure if it was from MOS-LAB though. As of this post there is no info on the MOS-LAB website.

SoundsDivine 'Warped Vinyl' - FXpansion Strobe 2

Published on Dec 18, 2019 SoundsDivine111

"Preview of the presets from the 'Warped Vinyl' soundset for FXpansion Strobe 2

https://soundsdivine.com/product/stro..."

"‘Warped Vinyl’ contains 100 sounds for FXpansion Strobe 2

These patches are designed to sound old & worn out. This soundset tries to emulate the sound of classic analog polysynths like the Korg Polysix & Yamaha CS-70 through cheap 90s reverbs and old analog delays pedals and tape machines.

Making full use of Strobe 2’s Transmod system, these sounds are dynamic and expressive with extensive mod wheel and aftertouch assignments for each patch.

‘Warped Vinyl’ features a variety of different presets, including, BoC style synth sounds, CS-80 brass sounds, dusty old pads, noisy space echo fx, drifty tremolo pads, old organ sounds, distorted electric pianos and much more."

More OP-1 sound comparisons with an external keyboard

Published on Dec 18, 2019 Synth & Sundry

"A wide range of Teenage Engineering OP-1 synth sounds tested out using both the OP1 keys and the Arturia Keystep which is capable of velocity and aftertouch. While the OP-1 does not support aftertouch, it does respond to velocity. However, its own keyboard isn't capable of transmitting it to the sound engines. Check out what the differences are for a wide range of sounds.

This video is a follow up to an earlier test where I showed how to set up an external keyboard with the OP-1over USB through a laptop running Ableton Live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzpZ4... Check that out if you need a refresher.

Then you got the Roland JX8P on pad. Then ya got the Alpha Base on drums. Then you have the Novation Peak on lead. Subtle sidechain compression on the Nyborg via the KT Square One. Announcement NEW DIVKID EURORACK MODULE // Meet ochd made with Instruo

Published on Dec 18, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Hello hello, here's my second eurorack module øchd or ochd. It's pronounced "oct" as in octave or octuplet and as if by magic there's eight outputs on this module, an octuplet of analogue LFOs if you will. I often find I need more modulation, simple sources that will keep things moving and stop things getting repetitive. That’s why ochd was brought to life, to keep patches organically drifting and moving… and as it’s modular, we wanted an intuitive easy to use module with plenty of patchable tricks up it’s sleeves too!

ochd is a 4HP Eurorack module with eight analogue triangle LFOs. The outputs go from fast on the top output to slow on the bottom output. The default ranges are deliberate NOT synced. These are free running LFOs that were tuned by ear to be musical useful for a range of fast to slow modulations in a patch. Organic animation, drifting and musical phasing is the intention of the module. The rate control controls the rate of all LFOs globally and takes this into lower audio rates right down to 25 minute cycles on the lowest output. This can be extended even slower with CV, with the CV input and attenuverter on board and we can also track and hold the outputs with a negative CV, interrupting and holding modulation values with external gates of CVs. Another trick to take this from simple triangle shapes is to patch a spare output into the CV input and wave shape with feedback. Exponential curves, odd squares, stepped waveforms and more are available with some adjustment of the attenuverter and using different outputs to voltage control itself.

While patching a prototype at DivKid HQ Richard Devine said this was "the most organic little modulator ever" - lovely stuff!"
