Nosferatu Analog Synth Soundtrack

deitersmonkey

One for HALLOWEEN 🎃

"The world’s first cinema Vampire: 1922 FW Murnau’s silent film (Public Domain) with my own musical compositions using 40 year old analog synthesizers to augment the haunting, stylized German expressionist classic. There were many blown capacitors and broken pure silver key trigger wires along the way. This film was forced to be destroyed by Bram Stokers widow, due to the obvious plagiarism of 1897’s Dracula. It survived as copies were found in cinemas during the 60’s.

I have been working on this project for a very long time and the convergence of many themes of Nosferatu and 2020 inspired me to finish it off.

I respectfully approached this as my personal homage to all of the great electronic music pioneers of the 1970’s."

Big Briar 331 Touchpad by Bob Moog with Synton 3000 Modular synthesizer

David Morley

"The Big Briar company was created by Bob Moog after he left Moog. He sold Synton synthesisers and the 331 touchpad was created to be used with the 3000 system. I just cleaned mine, so decided to test it. A very short video, but no doubt highly interesting to 7 people. I'm triggering the Fenix III sequencer and controlling the filter cutoff and LFO speed with the touchpad."

SUZUKI OMNICHORD OM-84 demo by Morgan Fisher

EML SYNKEY 2001 demo by Morgan Fisher

morganfisherart

"A short demonstration of the EML Synkey 2001, a unique analog instrument that offers parallel harmonies on all 12 intervals of the octave. Frank Zappa used it, and I was first shown it by Eddie Jobson, his keyboard player, back in about 1976. Recorded in 2013 in Morgan Salon.

RMI Keyboard Computer (KC1) combo organ

909955847736

1973 - The Computer Keyboard (prototype)
1974 - The Keyboard Computer (this one)
1975 - The Keyboard Computer II (until 1982)

"...'morganfisherart' did an excellent job demonstrating the KC2 [posted here], but there weren't any good ones for the KC1 unless you count the 1974 RMI demo record. I recorded my KC1 direct using no effects or EQ. Hopefully this video should clear up some misinformation around the internet. This instrument is not a sample player or a synthesizer, it was never available to the public with illuminated buttons, and channel 3 is not even in the same ballpark as a "white noise effect".

I have to do a shout-out to a couple of scholarly gentlemen who wrote a book in 2019 that I highly recommend called "Classic Keys, Keyboard Sounds That Launched Rock Music". A few years ago I had my Keyboard Computer professionally photographed and a couple of those pictures were used in this book. Anyway this book is filled with a lot of very in-depth research and even recently won an award."

VAI 11 : Roland TR77 - Böhm Solist 78 - Digitech Synth Wah Envelope Filter

Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"The Roland TR77 Drum machine is going through the Emthree Pulsatron Mixer for crunch, phasing and spring reverb.
The Dr. Böhm Solist 78 is playing the bass through the Digitech Synth Wah Envelope Filter - pedal, while the first chords are going through a mysterious no-brand phaser "Rotor Monster" (that could be some kind of Vermona product), the seconds short decay chords go through the Roland RE-301 Space Echo.

The drum machines are not midi-or clock synced, just synced manually.

We make these videos as a showcase for our studio and for curious vintage heads - and for fun.

We don't dilly-dally too much with production and mixing but it can sound pretty good with headphones on."

"Here's how the ever-useful @MAKEN0ISE MATHS can give your modular mix the 'sidechained pumping kick' effect, as it can be an envelope follower, VCA, an attenuverter and a final output mixer, all at once! Patch diagram & step-by-step info (if ya have other modules) in description! ↴

Bouncy, rubbery bass - Peak Basslines // Novation

NovationTV

"In the first video in our Peak Basslines series, Ehsan demonstrates how you can make a bouncy, rubbery bass sound with Peak. Here, Ehsan shows you how to quickly and easily throw together a bouncy bassline with lots of synced filter animation.

Peak sounds warm and rich with filthy, biting overdrive. It's an eight-voice desktop polyphonic synthesiser with three New Oxford Oscillators for each voice. The synth has a resonant multi-mode analogue filter for each voice, and three distortion points in an analogue signal chain.

Ambient Dreams 001 [Waldorf Wave, Valhalla Reverb, Logic Drum Synth]

Star Diver

"When I first started making synth music during semester breaks in college, I'd turn the lights down low, late at night and just trip out to ambient synths and drums washed in reverb, for hours... I've had that experience in my mind since 1993. I'm now heading back to my creative home..."

ST Modular - STEREO COMPRESSOR with Boba Fat, HH, Pyxis and Phoebe

Stefan Tretau

„Stereo Compressor“ is a classic analog feedforward compressor, which takes its sidechain split directly from the input signal. It is based on the THAT4305 Analog Engine® single-chip with integrated Blackmer® VCA. It has two independent signal paths in order to process stereo signals. The left input is normalized to the right, if you want to compress mono signals instead. The module has three controls and a switch:

THRESHOLD determins the level at which the compressor starts working. This can be set from -40dB to 20dB.
RATIO sets how much the compressor turns down the volume when the threshold is reached (INF:1 to 1:1).
GAIN regulates the amount of make-up gain (-20dB to +20dB) that is applied to the signal.
Additionally there is an ON/OFF switch that makes it easy to compare the dry and compressed audio signal.

Please note that if you turn THRESHOLD counter-clock wise to the left, you reduce the threshold from 20dB (fully cw) to -40dB (fully ccw). Hence the compressor starts working earlier. If you turn RATIO counter-clock wise to the left you increase the amount of compression from 1:1 (fully cw, no compression) to INF:1 (fully ccw, infinite compression). So turning the knobs down corresponds to compressing the signal. The pictures below show the knobs in a neutral position where no compression is applied.

STEREO COMPRESSOR has a similar design as the STEREO SUM CHANNEL modules. If you want to add some compression to your mix STEREO COMPRESSOR is a perfect addition to your STEREO SUM Mixer.

Rob Papen Introduces Blade 2

Rob Papen

And the press release:

Rob Papen sharpens soft synth breakthrough by bringing boosted BLADE-2 to existing bundle owners and wider world beyond

ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual synthesizer, instrument, and effect plug-in developer Rob Papen Inspiration Soundware is proud to announce availability of BLADE-2 — boosting its original BLADE soft synth with fantastic features making it a dream synth for synth lovers who like to think out of the box while working in the box, and available at no extra cost to existing owners of the company’s expansive eXplorer-6 and sure-fire SoundDesign-X bundles — as of October 28…

When the original BLADE was released back in 2012, it had a unique concept — controlling the waveform harmonics (HARMOLATOR) using its recordable XY PAD, which was a very different approach to additive synthesis, and remains so to this day. Indeed, it was the first Rob Papen soft synth to include this feature, facilitating flexible sound editing, recording, and tempo-based playback. Put it this way: when putting this extraordinary combination into action, BLADE users can creatively generate very different tones — far from the sound of the subtractive synthesis crowd, and even those of other additive synthesizers.

Starting from Zer0: Dynamics!

MAKEN0ISE

"In the previous 'Starting from Zer0' videos [posed here] we talked about oscillations and patching, and this time we’re going to talk about dynamics. Is this the most important concept in synthesis? No, all the important concepts are too inter-related for there to be one most important concept, but dynamics is maybe more easily overlooked in music and in synthesis than pitch or rhythm, while being at least as important to creating sounds and making music.

Behringer Teases a New Oberheim TVS?

Note the knob placement compared to the TVS below and the patch panel on the right. This appears to be a TVS in Neutron form factor.

Note the extra switch under the filter Notch knob missing on the original. This implies the variable filter from Bandpass to Lowpass to Highpass will be able to be modulated.

TINRS Fenix IV - Case Microphone Patch explained

Making Sound Machines

"This patch we made last night uses the tiny microphone built into This is Not Rocket Science's Fenix IV to play the brilliant digital oscillator, resulting in this chill kalimba soundscape.

The case mic is routed to the Fenix' external input module, which allows you to extract a gate and an envelope from the audio. This gate clocks the Fenix' sequencer and advances the sequence by one step each time Enrica taps the case - sending new pitch CV to the digital oscillator in FM mode, and triggering two ADSR controlling two VCA.

The result is mixed with the case mic's original signal - not only do the bamboo end cheeks look and feel absolutely great, they also make a lovely sound - and fed into the stereo digital delay. We absolutely love this sound, somewhere between Stockhausen Kontakte, our own experiments with Mutable Instruments Ears and Music Thing Modular's Mikrohonie piezo eurorack modules, chimes, tonguedrum and glockenspiel, and the lovely skits on Danny Breaks records.

Thank you Stijn, Priscilla and Lauri at TiNRS for the lovely surprises you built into this machine! ❤️ So much to discover!"
