"Combining two very rare oddballs - both manufactured by CRB Elettronica in the late 1970s : The CRB Computer Band 2000 and the CRB Voco Strings.

The Computer Band 2000 is an analog auto-accompaniment machine with a range of chord and arpeggiator sounds with decay controls, as well as a bass section and a drum machine with individually mutable sounds.

The Voco Strings is CRBs take on the Roland VP-330 - a string and vocoder machine. Were there any other commercially produced vocoders in Europe apart from this one and the Sennheiser VSM-201? Let us know in the comment section.

We're letting the CRB Voco strings process the Computer Band, via the regular audio input, while a third player, the Siel Cruise, a lovely Mono / Poly machine, is connected as an external carrier signal, via the instrument input.

More videos of this lovely combination will be going up soon.

"TR-8S v2.5 and TR-6S v1.5 update load your Rhythm Performer with a stack of exciting new features. In this video, Dustin Good demonstrates the ins and outs of the new firmware and TR-EDITOR software updates.

Both TRs add six FM-based drum models—kick, snare, tom, clap, percussion, and cymbal. These models include new editable FM parameters which can be controlled from both the TR hardware and TR-EDITOR software for creating intricate, evolving sounds.

Rhythm tracks get a dose of unpredictability with a fresh sequencer update that adds probability, sub step probability, and master probability. Probability can bring your drum programming to life by setting percentage values to individual steps that dictate the chance of that step playing. The higher the percentage, the more that note will be played.

Quickly assign new sounds to your pattern with random kit and random instrument. Create spontaneous sonic changes in patterns and then easily restore back to the original kit.

Then run sounds through four new MFX options—Tone Fattener, Vinyl Simulator, Pitch Shifter Delay, and Ha-Dou Reverb.

Plus, upgrade the TR-EDITOR software to version 1.5 for deeper control of the new FM, probability editing, and more.

"This synth has the GliGli Mod installed. (I will also include the original Z80 chip that was in the synth before the GliGli Mod was installed.) I purchased this synth 4 years ago from the Vintage Vibe Electric Piano Co. It has left my studio only a handful of times since then and it functions perfectly. All switches, pots, and buttons work great and actuate as they should (i.e., smoothly and efficiently). The keys are in excellent condition. It sounds incredible and has a character that can't be captured with modern synths. The PolyMod is wicked cool and allows for some synth effects that are truly unique. I have listed the condition as "Excellent" because the synth is in great shape - but there is one noteworthy cosmetic imperfection: the left side (bass end) wood panel has been significantly scratched (it was like that when I purchased it from Vintage Vibe). I have highlighted this in the pictures. It lends character to this instrument and has zero effect on the instrument as such - and can be remedied by replacing the wood side panels with replicas of your choosing or design. The synth comes with the road case featured in some of the pictures and with a power cord. The road case is old but it is still functional and protective."

"Said goodbye to my Sequential Take 5 by doing a quick jam with it layered multiple times. I made an effort to start most patches initialized while quickly creating something on the fly.

There are no effects so you can see how the synthesizer sounds playing with other gear (in this instance, the Take 5 over and over). There is minimal processing: only panning and doubling tracks to widen stereo field.

Such a great synth. I highly recommend it."

The 3-part User Guide will cover this very complex and fully-featured, yet simple to use analogue filter, starting with looking at one of the individual filters in isolation. "Here are some facts about the synth:
The Soundmaker has 61 keys on its keyboard and therefore covers five complete octaves including C of the sixth octave. You can choose between polyphonic and monophonic registers. A combination of these is also possible - the keyboard can be "split" in the middle.

Polyphonic chords can be played with the right hand and the melody with the left hand. The Soundmaker has five poly registers (piano, harpsichord, honky-tonk piano, brass and brass with vibrato), an external one for Time-typical string ensemble, which is also polyphonic, and a total of twelve monophonic sounds (tuba, trombone, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, oboe, flute, piccolo, accordion, electric bass and electric guitar).

All registers can be easily changed and adjusted with the synthesizer elements on the front of the instrument. In addition, the instrument has a mode in which no preset is activated and the musician can create, save and retrieve his own sound. The synthesizer has two 6.35mm jacks, one each for the polyphonic and monophonic section, as well as a headphone output and an input socket. External noise sources could be integrated into the soundmaker's technology."

Unfortunately this one needs work. Also from the listing: "The synthesizer can be switched on and the various buttons also react, but unfortunately I can't get any sound out."

"Step into my time machine and relive 80's sci-fi soundtrack nirvana without having to deal with that creepy guy at Blockbuster. Please be kind, rewind. Wait, what year is it?

Hate to do this, but this rad little keyboard hardly gets any use anymore so it's time to liquidate. It's a very cool, but slightly beat up RS-09. It sounds excellent, but could probably use some tuning up by a keyboard technician. Sonically everything works as it should, the only mechanical issues are the sunken keys above middle C (they still function though) and the broken switch on the envelope mode. A few of the switch tops are missing/broken but that doesn't impact sound.

This is the 120V version.

Ships as pictured, no case. Sold as is, with no returns or refunds, and no you can't have my copy of Aliens."

"Here's an attempt to simulate the sound of an old toy piano. Maybe a little broken, maybe a little out of tune. The patch is relatively straightforward.

I'm starting to feel like the best way to approach the Subharmonicon is to pair it with other complimentary synths and effects. Here the Microcosm is functioning less like an effects box, and a bit more like an accompanying synth supplying a gentle wash of sound.

"Taking a close look at 0-Coast components can inspire you to make your own coast, which is remarkably easy with older, discontinued and replaced modules. 0-coast is a relatively simple tabletop, but it's one of the best synths to expore and learn modular. My 'coast' is no exception.

I used a classic Wogglebug, STO, Function, Contour and Dynamix which all are still easy to find. Looking at an older exhibition project from Mr. Rolando (Synth of Two Coasts) inspired me to focus on timbre, expression and articulation instead of notes, melody and music. 'Search for sounds unfound'. Let's do that!"

DISCLAIMERS

1. I did this as fast as possible, so the production & editing isn’t up to my usual picky standards. I just wanted to get the ideas across ASAP. It’s a nerdy, lengthy over-the-shoulder synth dive, but it does the job ;-)

2. The camera focused on the Rev2 slipped after I started recording, so unfortunately you never really get a shot of that one. So sorry! You can hear what I’m doing though - that’s the important part.

3. This whole thing really focuses on just one type of sound, with 2 variations. It’s way too difficult to really show how different these 3 synths are, let alone their strengths. I just wanted to demo their overall character traits. As always with YouTube videos, take it all with a grain of salt!"

"And this is not the only Minimoog with a pitchbend ribbon. Mine got this too. I had a warn out pitchwheel when I bought my cheap Minimoog 1983. I built a new housing myself (beech wood) and added the ribbon. The modwheel moved to the left. The right wheel is not connected."
