Please Consider Supporting the Site
If you enjoy the site and have the means, please consider supporting the site for as little as $2 a month or a one-time donation. You can find details on how to support the site here: https://www.matrixsynth.com/p/support-matrixsynth.html.
Supporting the site currently helps keep it pop-up-ad free. You might notice intrusive pop-up and video ads on other sites. I'd like to keep MATRIXSYNTH free of such ads, however, if not enough support comes in, I may have to enable them at some point. This site is a full-time job, so every bit of support helps.
If you are a manufacturer, maker, or anyone who profits from having your products and videos promoted here on MATRIXSYNTH, please consider supporting the site. Every post that features your content promotes your content.
Supporting members are also able to submit their synth content for posts. Please note not everything goes up, however. I try to keep the site free from politics, hate, and discrimination, and only synth content goes up. No offense to other gear, but this site is exclusively about synths. Also, please do not support the site if your intent is to promote another site. This site is about this site and the content featured on it. It's ideal for people promoting sample packs that demonstrate specific synths, or people making videos showcasing various synths and modules. Just skip through posts to get an idea of what's featured here on MATRIXSYNTH. Finally, supporting the site would allow me to cut back on auction posts by limitting them to suporting member listings, sponsors, and only the rarest of the rare synth items.
That said, thank you to all of my current supporters and sponsors! Running this site takes a ton of work in more ways than one. As the saying goes, it can be impossible to make everyone happy. You are so appreciated and help keep the site going.
Update: Thank you for everyone donating. For the one-off donations, shoot me an email at matrixsynth @ gmail.com, or leave a comment below if you'd like to be added to the support page. I don't share email aliases w/o permission for privacy reasons, so let me know what alias to list. If you prefer not to be listed and just want to make a donation, thank you!
Frap Tools CUNSA Saturnian Rainforest Patch
video upload by Nightlife Electronics
"Crafting some Saturnian rainforest vibes on the Frap Tools CUNSA. Using it as the only sound source in the patch, pinging each of the four filter cores with a rotating series of clocks from the Make Noise Tempi. a sprinkling of FM here and there and finally running into the Intellijel Rainmaker for a touch of comb delay. Dense sounds from a relatively simple patch!

"Avalon Service Note 12: Adding Filter PWM input
Please note: This video was updated on July 16 after finding Resistor R328 was the incorrect value.
If you have an Avalon from the 6th run your unit may be missing a surface mount resistor relating to the filter PWM input. The result is that the filter CV offset feature and MIDI filter control are not working. This issue affects about 25% of 6th run units, approximately 80 units total.
Serial Numbers Affected: AVxxxx201704 between 0930 and 1044 (i.e.from AV090201704 to AV1044201704)

New Moog Muse Details
Some new details on the upcoming Moog Muse have been shared online and have been added to this post. They appear to be from a Norweigan shop, and appear to be legit, however, we won't know for sure until Moog officially announces the Muse, of course. Some slightly larger pics have been added there as well, however, they are still pretty blurry. They do, of course, give you the gist of it. Click here for the update.
A note on leaks: please note MATRIXSYNTH does respect embargos, and only shares what has already been leaked online as once the news is out, the news is out. This is a synth news site and synth leaks are news. Not keeping up-to-date would essentially make the site irellevant. If you are a manufacturer, my recommendation is to NOT release images or details to anyone, including shops, until you are ready to formally announce the product. The majority of leaks come from online shops that either fail to keep things private, or leak it on purpose to get pre-orders in ahead of others. This is one of the reasons I do not link to shops that leak gear, as it only encourages them.
Please note as a courtesy to sponsors and supporting members of the site, I will reach out if I do spot a leak, prior to posting. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
The Magic World of Analog | Serge Modular | Episode 04
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"In this video, I'll dive into the magic world of analog synthesis with a focus on the Serge Wavemultiplier (folder) and Resonant EQ. They sound great, but many of the Serge modules have secret 'magic' worlds, or less dramatic, they can do things you would not expect.
I also took the opportunity to do a compare with the Ohmicide digital distortion, which is ported from a VST. I don't want to compare digital and analog sonically, because I believe digitally modelled analog sounds just as good as real analog. The differences are revealed when unexpected conditions take place. In real analog, mother nature will determine what happens (cause and effect). In digital, you'd encounter an exception. So let's see what happens when Ohmicide has to process its own output :).
Another difference is that digital modules don't have a secret world beyond the code."

G-Storm Electro Introduces GODSPEar | Oxford OSCar Eurorack Filter Translation
[Demo #1] video upload by gstormelectro
"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2024
Today I am introducing GODSPEar, my homage to the Oxford OSCar filter in Eurorack format. GODSPEar is the only filter used in these audio recordings. Detailed explanation of the module and patch examples will be in a forthcoming Demo #2. Audio recorded direct to Tascam DR-05, some additional compression and normalization used in the making of this audio.
Check my Reverb store for GODSPEar and other module availability

These audio demos from this video can be heard on their entirety on my Soundcloud page. http://soundcloud.com/gstormelectro"

via Reverb
"As Oscar translates from Celtic to God’s Spear, now GODSPEar is my translation Oxford OSCar Synthesizer filter for the Eurorack format. GODSPEar has a special look and sound that pays special homage to OSCar designer Chris Huggett’s creation. The Oxford OSCar would inherit some of the funky DNA from EDP WASP as it was discontinued at the time. Hailed as Europe’s answer to the Minimoog, sets itself apart from Bob’s hardware with some curious technical wizardry all its own.
The OSCar, and now with my GODSPEar filter were already interesting to start. It is actually TWO FILTERS each w/ 2-Pole cutoff slope. The cutoff frequencies of the two filters can diverge from each other by an adjustable SEPARATION control. The “Q” resonance control behaves as one would expect when no SEPARATION is used. But in BANDPASS mode, with higher Q settings as well as SEPARATION impart vocal formant sounds.
Divorced of any CPU control prowess as it was implemented on the original. GODSPEar filter control has been designed from the ground up to work well w/ the Euro standard. And to meet the stringent requirements that discerning modular synth enthusiasts have come to expect. Yet retains the original core topology, a full analog signal path, NOS NJM13600 OTAs, as well as V/Oct filter tracking. Logic assisted Filter MODE selection button toggle. Two external CV inputs for control of Frequency. And now the additional features of CV control over Q, and yes CV control of Separation.
Beware - CV control over Separation is serious business. These signals were only meant to diverge in one direction. Sending the cutoff frequencies in the other directions yield vanishing Bandpass audio and unintended consequences for Low/HighPass modes. Thus on GODSPEar, I’ve added an active Full Wave Rectifier circuit to govern the Separation CV input as gate-keeper and peace maker. Go ahead and send your bi-polar LFO signals etc. Just know in doing so, any negative voltage components will be flipped over to the positive realm. You’re welcome.
FREQUENCY | the initial Cutoff Frequency of the filter
Q | the depth of the peak frequency resonant feedback.Res will self-oscillate without an input signal present.
Q CV | Modulate the Q Resonance w/ any polar/bi-polar mod signal. This signal is summed against the Initial Q amount knob.
IN 1 & IN 2 | Mix together 2 different audio signals, each w/ their own mix pot.
Freq CV | Modulate the Cutoff Frequency w/ any polar/bi-polar signal. At 12 o’clock, the pot has no modulation. In the Counter-Clockwise direction it can invert the incoming control signal.
KB | Modulate the Cutoff Frequency w/ a V/oct signal or any other polar/bi-polar mod. Self-oscillation resonance will loosely track v/oct when KB is set to 100%, allowing the self-oscillation Q sinewave to be played in a musical fashion.
TYPE | Toggle switch for choosing the filter MODE: Lowpass, Bandpass, Highpass.
SEPARATION | Initial amount that diverges the frequency cutoff spread between the two filters.
SEP CV | Control Voltage Input with attenuator knob for modulating the Initial Separation amount. Input CV Signal is passed through a Full Wave Rectifier so that Separation behaves in a prescribed manner as expected, thereby preserving audio integrity.
OUT | the mono audio output jack.
Spearhead your own analog filter trajectory by racking up something a bit outside the usual fare. GODSPEar is made in limited quantities, not mass produced – so don’t wait and get yours whenever available. Includes a 10-pin to 16-pin Eurorack ribbon connector. Rack screws are not included as it’s presumptuous that one fastener spec suits everybody. Fasteners are possibly available upon request if you let me know your specs I’ll see what I can do. I highly recommend After Later Audio Rack Screws sold separately here on Reverb."
Meet MIDINA - 16 Track Polyphonic Midi sequencer and Recorder / Song Arranger
video upload by Meltchya
"Hi all... meet MIDINA :)
She's a 16 track polyphonic midi sequencer and recorder / song arranger that can record pitch bend, MIDI CCs, and aftertouch. She's got 128 songs, 16 blocks per song, and 16 tracks per block.
Each block can be up to 2048 steps, and each track can be up to 2048 steps. Blocks automatically sequence at the end of the previous block, and you can jump freely between any blocks by tapping them in the scroll menu. Each block can have its own set of 48 program change messages to trigger new programs in sync with the block changes. You can change songs with no load times and no hitch. She's got 30 NeoPixel MX switches that can be freely customized or changed, 8 push-switch rotaries, a 5" touch AMOLED screen, and the software is going to be fully open source from day 1. The unit seen here is the first tactile prototype, but I've started production run for the first batch and I'm getting ready to launch it next month.
It's been a year of hard work and this is the first tune I've actually gotten to make, I'm excited to be able to make music again and not have to focus so much on the software and hardware side of things. I'm a little bit out of practice, it's hardly a perfect performance, but it's always fun! Thanks for listening in and checking it out :)
Here's unit #002, with red anodized aluminum, black knobs, pudding keycaps, and smokey black sequencer key caps. All of this is fully customizable to taste, and each unit will be built and tested personally by hand."

Currently on Kickstarter
"What is MIDINA?
Midina is an open-source sequencer born from a passion for electronic music and technology, designed to be powerful and accessible.
Midina stands out with its ability to record pitch bends, aftertouch, and MIDI CCs, providing you with a versatile and expressive sequencer. There are easy ways to trigger program changes automatically or manually. The linear sequencer within each Song provides a clear Block Order, designed to help you make music that moves. It supports extended track and block lengths, enabling different creative methods of song building to be explored. Additionally, for those who enjoy a traditional approach, Midina offers robust step sequencer options that will only get better with time.
One of the core philosophies behind Midina is community engagement, iterative software development, and the support of customization through community contributions to both software and hardware. I believe that anybody who wants to contribute should be welcome to contribute. By opening the code, I hope to see others tailor Midina to their personal needs, enhancing their creative process and the project offerings along the way.
Midina is built on the versatile Raspberry Pi platform, making it an accessible and affordable choice. Its open-source nature means that you have the freedom to explore, modify, and expand its capabilities.
Midina is still young, but it is a project I am committed to developing and improving for the long haul. I set out to build a sequencer which fits my own production needs in a live environment, and I am happy with what it currently offers.. At the same time, I know it can do much more over time, and I am excited to iterate and improve as the days go on.
Thank you for exploring Midina. I look forward to hearing the music you create with it.

About the Artist
Honeysmack is an electronic musician hailing from Melbourne, Australia. He has been actively producing music and performing live Techno for almost 3 decades, earning a reputation as one of Australia's leading electronic music pioneers.
Honeysmack grew from the underground rave scene of the early 90s, combining Acid and Techno to create a unique sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Labelled a maverick artist who brings a punk-rock aesthetic and philosophy to electronic music. He has released numerous albums and EPs, toured extensively and completed a PhD in Acid Techno! Honeysmack's performances are widely acclaimed for their high energy, dynamic and spontaneous character, all fuelled by his electronic music hardware.
Dr. David Haberfeld, his real name, firmly believes the essence of electronic dance music resides in a live improvised approach, very different to DJing. Equal parts performer, producer, prankster, punk and disrupter; Honeysmack’s reputation for challenging audiences by pushing the creative boundaries of Techno and how it is presented is consistent throughout his work. Honeysmack surrounds himself with an arsenal of drum machines and synths for every performance. This is LIVE improvised Acid Techno, performed live on the dancefloor. Honeysmack is not a DJ, there are no laptops, no records, no CDJs and no USBs, just pure live electricity!

DK Synergy II+ For Sale - Professionally Refurbished
video upload by tonetweakers
"Here’s the DK Synergy II+ we just refurbished and will soon put up for sale on our website at tonetweakers.com. The Synergy is an incredibly powerful FM / additive synthesizer that sounds somewhat similar to the famous Yamaha DX7 series, but many feel it sounds much better. We love both. Famous users include Jay Wires, Wendy Carlos and Donald Fagen. In the past, one needed to hook up their Synergy to a Kaypro computer running special software to create their own Synergy sounds. However, someone recently developed a new editor that runs on modern computers. This is a game changer - we can’t wait to hook our Synergy up to it!"

Inverted echoes (a modular patch idea)
video upload by Electrum Modular
"The aim here – besides trying out the TSNM as an expressive keyboard – was to generate an inverted echo, so that a descending melody comes back as an ascending one, or vice versa. (I stole this idea from Bach, who often used contrapuntal inversion, playing the theme “upside-down”).
Mutable Instruments’ Beads (in delay mode) is perfect for this, but any module with a long delay would work. The other crucial ingredient is a multi-channel mixer/attenuverter such as Make Noise Maths (here, I’m using Acid Rain’s Junction).

"I discovered the technique of 'Moon Bouncing', using the moon as an echo, when I was researching composer Pauline Oliveros. Her experiences with 'Echoes from the moon' sounded fascinating. Like with all experimental music techniques of old I wanted to try the process for myself. This started a two year long journey.
With the support of Martine-Nicole Rojina (who also helped out on camera on location) I got in contact with the radio telescope in Dwingeloo, a huge dish designed for space exploration. They helped me send signals to the moon: a sopranist (Johanna Vargas), a double bassist (Paul Cannon) as well as sounds from my patrons Sventothem, Michael Féaux, Andrew Stone, harper2k, Filip Ferngren, Dave Seidel, Gary Walker, Michael Peters, the void inclusive, Brendan Ford, David Williams, Joey Pop, Jeremiah Turner, Richy486, Joshua Philgarlic, Tim Moore, Grant Basma Horsnell, Arson Bright, Dan Kibke, Antonio T, Chris Sherman, Sergey, Charlie, Bartek Trame and Dixit.
This fascinating experience yielded an extensive set of samples that @audiothing and me analyzed and used to create the free plugin 'Moon Echo'. This way you can experience some of the magic of moon bouncing yourself. Download here (its free): https://www.audiothing.net/effects/mo...
Music, Soundpack and thanks:

"In our seventh collaboration with Berlin-based musician Hainbach we listen to the stars: Moon Echo is a free to download delay based on a communications technique that uses our closest cosmic neighbor, the moon, as a reflector for radio waves. This results in some rather crunchy and lively echoes, modulated by the movement of Earth and moon. The moon’s surface is an imperfect mirror and creates artifacts, unlike any other echo technique. Moon Echo is both a musical lo-fi effect and a playful tool for teaching about space.
Moon Echo is available for MAC, PC, and LINUX (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, 64-bit only), and also as AUv3 and Standalone on the App Store."

Folded PWM Tš-L
video upload by Instruō
"In this video, we explore some sound examples from a folded PWM synth voice using the Tš-L as the primary audio source.
Connecting the PWM Output to the Wavefold CV Input allows for four levels of timbre control via the PWM knob/PWM CV Input, the PWM Waveform Crossfade knob, the Wavefold knob, and the Symmetry Bias knob. The sequencer or keyboard sends voltages to Tš-L while simultaneously triggering the envelope generator. The CV output of the envelope generator opens the filter and VCA, allowing Tš-L’s signal to pass through. More traditional East Coast patches would incorporate separate envelope generators for the filter and VCA."
