via Dasi: "We've been working on this record for the past year. it's a mix of my little 200e system, a small Moog modular circa 1969, an old 69' Electrocomp 200 and a small Makenoise/DIY system. There is a smattering of Roland Vsynth and bit of Gnaural for binaural beats which were both fed to the modulars for processing.

The guitars are mostly my 1964 Fender Jaguar with a infinite sustain circuit installed and a 1970s Gibson Explorer, Rickenbacker 12, and custom electric sitar also making appearances. also tons of 68' Fender Bass VI on the low end

The environmental recordings were recorded in Tazmania, Japan, and Mexico. Some of the ocean wave recordings weren't 'epic' enough so there is a lot of 222e ring work pulling waves in and out. oh, and sorry about the sound of me smoking cigarettes in the rainforest...i tried to edit them out but couldn't cut them without upsetting the rhythm of the forest crickets!

i know it's not the most Buchlidian bleepy bloopy album out there but hopefully it will give the 'can a buchla do tonal music' guys something to chew on!"

"I’m convinced that the blue paint job is factory, though I’ve never seen another like it. It only has 4k of memory, as opposed to the usual 16k found in later machines. Also, it has a two-prong power cable instead of three prongs. There may be other differences lurking inside. I don’t know what serial number these started at, or how the numbering scheme worked, but given that only a few hundred of these were ever made, I’m sort of fantasizing that maybe 600000 could mean this was the first one off the line…? Who knows…"

As a Maximizer, MSMAX can be used for anything from subtle to extreme loudness maximization to get individual tracks or mixes sounding loud and finalized. "The first and last minutes of this video feature effects (reverb & delay) from the Roland Fantom X6, but the rest is straight, dry SX. Its strings patches with internal chorus engaged are reminescent of the string synths of the 70's like the Solina. Not a bad little synth for the money. No sliders, but all programming is done by selecting a switch for the parameter to edit and changing the value with an "alpha" dial. Not sure if the patches in this synth are factory or not as I was not original owner (nor do I still own this synth)."

"We started some experiments with Max For Live step sequencers and the Livid Base. These are extremely rudimentary, but because they can be accessed with Device control, they are very powerful and easy to work with. Control of these step sequencers is as simple as pointing the controller to the device using the Base Remote Script for Ableton Live 9 in Device mode. One you navigate to a module, it acts as a "super device" handing off the pads and sliders to the Max for Live patch. While these little toys won't be a "final" product, we'll have something for you to play with soon!"

This isn't a commercially available module currently - it was only available as a PCB directly from Jurgen, and after he passed away in 2011 they became unavailable. It's possible they will become available again in the future. The sounds that are being filtered are being created with 3 sequencers, a MOTM 300 VCO, a Double Dekka VCO, and an Ian Fritz Teezer VCO. Improved Audio Fidelity
Improved Vari-Speed response (shorter scale, greater resolution)
End of GENE Pulse (EOS outputs pulses for both Splices and Genes, turn up Gene Size see this in action)
Longer Record Time (improved memory management and improved audio fidelity make longer recordings possible)

Broken ECHO Mode: all new behavior allows for realtime processing of audio signals.

To enter Broken Echo Mode create a sample/ loop/ Splice (just press REC button and record entire memory blank, for example),press and hold REC button until you pass through the EOS (EOS flashes) and RECORD will be stuck ON. To Exit Broken ECHO, just hit REC button again (do not HOLD it though, or you will go back into Broken Echo).

In this mode the PHONOGENE is similar to the Echoplex with the SOS switch activated or that trick that William S. Burroughs used where he covered the ERASE head of a tape recorder and allowed a spool of tape to be recorded over and over again (without erasing the previous recordings). This is a great mode for building walls of sound, drones or making crude echo FX.

Phonogene will still mind Splices and Vari-Speed, Gene Size, Shift and Slide all function. Any modulation of these parameters will be recorded. Be sure to set the MIX control according to your desired results. For example, live input processing will require the MIX to be set at around 50%, while massaging content that has been captured will need MIX set to 100% WET. Adding or removing splices during Broken Echo Mode is not supported.

Bug Fix:
Double trigger at EOS while Vari-Speed set for Forward playback is fixed."
