Transmissions I Concert with Todd Barton, Bruce Bayard & Darrell Bluhm this Saturday, April 18

"Ashland, OR — Studio A.B presents Transmissions I, a multimedia concert by the performing art ensemble of Todd Barton, Bruce Bayard and Darrell Bluhm, with poetry by Jonah Bornstein as recorded by Christine Williams. The performance takes place Saturday, April 18, 8pm at the DanceSpace located at 280 East Hersey in Ashland. Tickets are $10 and there is limited seating.

The performance is a continuation and expansion on a series of improvised concerts, creating a sound and image collage in the moment. For this performance, sound and visual artist Bayard along with sound artist Barton are joined by martial artist Darrell Bluhm to explore the interpenetration and transmission of sound, image and movement. These three artists build an abstract narrative, live, using movement, voice, words, sound, and video.

The Bob Moog Foundation Interviews Rock Wehrmann on The Moog Liberation

As you know, The Bob Moog Foundation, is running a raffle for a Moog Liberation. As part of the raffle they have been showcasing the Liberation through videos and interviews (see Herb Deutsch on the Liberation here).  They just posted an interview with Rock Wehrmann, who worked on the Liberation and authored the user's manual.  The following are a few excerpts.  Click here for the full interview.


"BMF: What years did you work for Moog Music, Inc. and what was your background that lead you to work for the company?

RW: From mid-1977 until about summer of ’83. I was a session keyboard/synthesizer player in the Cleveland area. The Norlin rep heard me demo a Polymoog and suggested they hire me as a clinician.

BMF: What was your position there?

RW: I started as a clinician, and eventually ended up managing the advertising and marketing departments.


BMF: What instruments were you involved in while at Moog Music, Inc., and in what capacity?

RW: I was involved in the design of the Source, the Rogue, the Prodigy, the Opus 3, the Taurus II, the Concertmate (for Radio Shack) and the Memorymoog. Oh, yeah – and Liberation!

BMF: What do you remember about the Liberation project?

RW: The instrument almost designed itself. If I remember correctly, the [Realistic] Concertmate [MG-1] came first. Liberation is basically the guts of the Radio Shack Concertmate in a performance body.

MF Auralis is a marriage of two great Reaktor products: Metaphysical Function and Auralis v2.1 by Kristian Thom.

I am a big fan of science fiction and I think it shows in the snapshots for this. There are plenty of drones, many MIDI-controlled samples, some have great-looking visuals for when you are tired of sound, and several snapshots in sequence tell a small story, usually those involve dragons and robots. A few of the snapshots are extremely complex and go on for long periods of time.

The A view and B view are different and there are two panelsets. There is a small random snapshot button that may be enabled to slowly go through the banks of snapshots at random. This I call 'party mode'.

The Metaphysical Function version in here is different from any others and not compatible with any earlier version. All the automation is exposed, many info tips are added, some minor internal improvements are made, and there are many more resochord and reverb settings. It should be a lot easier to randomize, morph and merge snapshots with this version, I do it all the time.

I borrowed heavily from the ideas of Simon Stockhausen's Metaphysical Function Eternity. Rick Scott (rachMiel) provided many changes and ideas in here. There is a limiter from James Walker-Hall. And probably lots more that I am forgetting from the talented and imaginative Reaktor user community."
