Novation BassStation: Everybody Needs A 303 (and then some)
video upload by BucketBrigade
"Today, we’re featuring the BassStation - the original, you might say! This was the first synthesiser from a company called Novation - they’ve been rather busy since.
We’ll talk about the story of its development, the market at the time of its release, and comprehensively cover the features of the BassStation from the oscillators, filters, envelopes and utilities. Hopefully by the end of this video you’ll know far more about this synthesiser than you ever wanted to. Thanks for watching :)
My thanks to Keith Littler and Steve Davies for their help in production, as well as Mark for loaning me his synthesiser.
Here is a link to the Novation Bass Station 1 manual. There are separate manuals for both the Bass Station Rack and Super Bass Station: https://www.polynominal.com/novation-...
All music in this video was composed by bucketbrigade Music, 2019-2025, except for the demonstration track of Try Again by Aaliyah recorded by bucketbrigade Music and Beautiful Day by Keith Littler. With the exception of those tracks, they will be available for download in due course.

Yamaha CS-01 - The Little Synth That Could
video upload by BucketBrigade
"I'm back! (A little later than planned.) Today we're looking at the Yamaha CS-01, a monosynth from 1982 that - while it can't compete with it's older bigger brother the CS80, has plenty to give - more than you may think ;) Thank you to Paul for loaning me this lovely machine.
Let me know if you owned a CS01 in the comments below, I'd love to hear your stories - and feel free to suggest any other synthesisers you'd like to see on the channel in the future.
PS: A quick note - the quality of the microphone and camera are a bit skew-whiff in this channel. Unfortunately nothing went quite as I had hoped as I didn't have my normal equipment, ran out of time and made some errors - chucking a screen with some photo references in the corner of my eyeshot reflecting the whole time being one of them. Lastly, if my voice sounds a bit weird at the start, my noise reduction plugin went a bit overboard and makes me sound like an AI voice. I'm not, I promise!!"
The Proteus 1 Synthesiser in 2025 - Any Fun?
video upload by BucketBrigade
"Today, we're looking at the original Proteus sound module by E-mu, released in 1989. These were immensely successful back in the day and this one started it all, and so I decided to have a poke around the Proteus' patches to see which ones tickled my fancy.
Again, my thanks to Jon for lending me the Proteus.
If you have any stories about the Proteus, I'd love to hear them. Feel free to leave a comment or email me using the address in my channel description.
I appreciate my playing isn't maestro level, I'm no Doctor Mix unfortunately!! Expect more coming soon :)
The dry-signal version of this video is coming soon!
All images used belong to their respective owners, all music composed by myself, except for the piece used in the 'synth for a walk' sketch"

Minimoog Prototype Exhibit At the Moogseum This Weekend Only!
The anticipation is almost over! We are thrilled to be hosting the Minimoog Prototype Exhibit at the Moogseum, this weekend only, in partnership with the Museum of Music Technology (MMT). The exhibit will feature four ultra rare Minimoog prototypes from 1969, 1970, and 1971, as well as a host of related artifacts from the Bob Moog Foundation Archives.
We are honored to have JoE Silva, author of The Minimoog Book: The Synthesizer That Changed Music Forever: Sounds, Stories, and Technology join us throughout the weekend of the exhibit. He'll be on hand to delve into the history of the Minimoog with exhibit attendees and sign books in the Moogseum store.
We're excited to share a new addition to the exhibit. MMT will be bringing Minimoog serial number 1016 (the sixteenth Minimoog ever produced out of 12,269 units), which was purchased in 1971 by none other than David VanKoevering, the marketing genius behind the early Minimoog sales. David's Minimoog will be available for exhibit attendees to play and explore. Come get you hands on this incredible piece of synthesizer history!
Finally, be sure to take advantage of the morning tours with our executive director, Michelle Moog-Koussa. Michelle will be delving into Minimoog history as it is conveyed through the main gallery of the Moogseum. She doesn't give tours often, so take advantage of this opportunity. The tours are available for a small fee for any exhibit attendee.
PlantsSystem-ALGOR05
video upload by plantssystem
"'ALGOR05' is an interactive composition by PlantsSystem. It was constructed by controlling the sound flow generated in real time using the composition tool 'M' via VNC operation on an iPod Touch.
The compact iPod Touch fits naturally on top of the Prophet-5, functioning as an interface where the boundaries between digital and analog, virtual and physical, intersect. The sound image born at the moment when the performer's control and the autonomy of the algorithm intersect is precise yet somehow evocative of organic breathing."

The Story of CHOMPI
video upload by chase bliss and CHOMPI CLUB
"This is a story I've been wanting to tell for a long time.
CHOMPI is quite possibly the most cheerful instrument ever made, and to be fair that is the resting state of Tobias and Chelsea (and their two corgis). But the unexpected success of CHOMPI and everything that led up to it was quite a saga. Truth be told, Tobias was reluctant to tell this story at all, but I think it's important you know where CHOMPI is coming from and how much heart goes into it.
Also, things are different now. We're doing this together.

Sonicware ELZ_1 Play | Ambient explorations
video upload by Jay Hosking
"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
Two ambient pieces composed and performed live on the ELZ_1 Play, with effects.
00:00 - Song 1
04:22 - Song 2
Sonicware sent the ELZ_1 Play over for me to explore because of its big new firmware update. To be honest, there is an overwhelming number of synth engines and effects within the ELZ_1 Play and I only briefly explored the options with any systematicity. Most of the time, I found the synth was a nice device to tweak presets or dial in a sound quickly based on a particular engine type.
A few of the synth engines are quite beautiful and unique, including some tuned noise that it is really pretty. For these explorations, I was mainly drawn to sounds I can't normally make on my other synths, like electric pianos or organs. The options to make and tweak whatever you want are there, but they require you navigating the menus to find them. That aspect works perfect well, but mostly I found the ELZ_1 Play was a great couch device where I noodle.
The biggest and best surprise was definitely the looper, which allows you to have four separate, synchonized or asynchronous loops just spinning away. The looper is an easy way to quickly find inspiration and compose something new.
For these live performances, I've also paired the ELZ_1 Play with a few effects to extend or build the ambient sketch into something a little more complete. The Walrus Qi adds some granular, delay, chorus, and reverb to the finale of the first piece, and the Meris Polymoon adds its phased delay-verb to the second. I also thought I'd try the Soma Cosmos as a different take on the looping idea for the second track.
Overall, I found the ELZ_1 Play to be a good companion for those tired days where all the music-making energy I had was on the couch. Having so many engine types meant I could explore new sounds, and having the asynchronous looper meant I was often quickly in the territory of a full piece.
Thanks for listening.

"Pipes is a new audio platform which out-horsepowers a laptop, outperforms any sample player, and is built to get even better over time.
Imagine the audio quality of a high-end audio interface combined with the fastest and most powerful sampler engine ever created. That’s Pipes in a nutshell, but it’s only the beginning.
Based on groundbreaking core technology, Pipes is a new category of machine for creating music and performing live. It has the convenience of a touchscreen tablet style interface, the flexibility of an open source software platform, and the durability for going onstage night after night. Best of all, it’s priced at half the cost of the latest smartphones and updates are free forever!"

"Heavy metal being bent into its final form right here in America. While Pipes is a device we haven't seen before, there's still plenty of classic, tried and true ways to build an enclosure right. Take a look behind the scenes as the crew takes the pre-drilled flats and score/bend to create the enclosure. Not pictured is the second piece which comprises the bottom and left+right sides.
When we dreamed up Pipes, we knew that it had to be able to withstand the rigors of touring. While some people may only use Pipes in the studio, many of you will travel with it. We focused on an outcome that prioritized durability, that ensured proper ventilation, and that had enough weight and substance for withstanding exuberant live performances. That said, it's still a computing device, so definitely try to avoid dropping it or getting it wet!"

"Metasonix TM-7 Ultra Distortion Scrotum Smasher
This particular TM-7 was modified at the factory to have a TRS connector that provides a stereo signal on the output.
Includes box, manual and power supply.
The TM-7 is basically a mean, angry guitar preamp made of three vacuum tubes. Plus a feedback loop which makes the preamp unstable. The first tube is a 6AK5. It was used as an IF amplifier in military radios and suchlike. We use it as a preamp—a BAD preamp. Then the signal goes through ANOTHER 6AK5. Finally, we have a 6BN6 tube. It was used as an FM modulation detector in cheap FM radios. You’re not supposed to use it for audio. But it has a neat effect….when overdriven, it sounds like a push-pull guitar amp driven deep into saturation. The SMASH switch selects the output desired. Down, and you get the output of the second tube. Up gives the output of the third (6BN6) tube. If you want maximum saturation, flip it UP. The TM-7 outputs are divided down, so they are more compatible with solid-state devices than previous TX series pedals."

Synthesizing waveforms with a frequency divider - a sequel
video upload by organfairy
"I show how it sounds at 4:17 and play it with a keyboard at 5:50
Winter is getting closer so this is the time of year when I start building things. The first of my projects is a revisit to an old idea of synthesizing waveforms with a frequency divider. This time the waveform in question is a sine wave and some other waveforms derived from it.
The old idea is here: • Synthesizing waveforms with a frequency di... [below]
The project is quite a bit more complicated than the previous 'digital' waveform synthesizer as the sine wave is very..... well....wavy, as there are no straight lines like there is in the triangle and sawtooth waves. Therefore I had to take a different approach using a couple of 74LS138 3-8 decoders and an awfull lot of resistors.
The music is my attempt at playing something relaxing on my Wersi Prisma DX-5 organ."
Synthesizing waveforms with a frequency divider
video upload 8 years ago by organfairy
"The demo starts at 4:15.
The normal approach to generating waveforms is to start with a sawtooth wave and then fold it into a triangle wave and schmitt trigger it into a square wave. But it is also possible to synthesize the waveforms by means of a frequency divider and some logic gates. Off course the generated waveforms will be somewhat 'edgy' but that can probably be filtered out and some people might even find it usefull.
The music is something I made back in 2005 on the homemade synthesizers I had then. It's not the best piece I have made but I am still willing to take responsability for it :-)"

First Stage Fright
video upload by davidryle
"Rossum Electro-Music works its' way into the 5U system. The results are pretty nice.
Using a Trident Oscillator with quantized pitch CV from a Mob Of Emus into three envelopes from Synthetic Sound Labs Octal VCA Expander, then on to the Rossum Panharmonium Mutating Spectral Resynthesizer.
A tap off the Trident is sent to the Rossum Linnaeus filter for a percussive FM part which starts the work. The timing is from the Moon Modular 563 Trigger Sequencer.
The rhythm section is the Synthetic Sound Labs / Hagiwo Geo Gruvn euclidean sequencer for all the parts.
The bass part is the SSL Woven Spirits (MI Plaits) in wavetable mode.
The dual Q960 sequencers are transposing the 1V/Oct input to the Panharmonium and sending various control voltages to the bass and another pad swell sounds from the 5U system.
All recordings are in real time to Cubase 12 and video is edited in Final Cut Pro."
