"This was a fun soldering project. It arrived from France on Saturday afternoon and by Sunday early AM I had sounds coming out of it. The synth has some really cool sounds.
This track's drums and bassline are provided by the trusty Electribe EMX which is also providing the MIDI sequence for the Shruthi-1 to play."

Audio demo at the auction and further below.
"The Roland R5 was a late 80's / early 90's drum machine that was an extremely capable unit, and somewhat ahead of its time, but was overshadowed by its big brother the mighty Roland R8. As a result it was often neglected as a poor mans R8 and was probably never really as popular as it should have been.
The standard machine has 68 sounds, four individual outputs plus a stereo pair, extensive sound shaping capabilities, 16 velocity sensitive pads and a whole host of 'human feel' and groove editing capabilities. One additional feature that takes the R5 into whole new realms of percussion programming is the ability to record parameter changes into patterns in on the fly using the data entry slider. This may not seem like much these days, but other than the R8 and the Yamaha RY30, it was a feature that was pretty much unique at the time.
Theres no room for any decent mods inside the casing of the R5, so as you can see we've bolted an extra case to the side of the unit and mounted a patchbay in it. The case is made from transparent blue plastic and contains several LED's that light up when you power up the machine. This gives you a very cool and unique glowing blue patchbay.
The patchbay mods consist of a 20 way main patching area, 2 x patching multiples, 2 x patchable switches and 1 x patchable momentary button. You can find full details of our drum machine patchbay mods on our website HERE. but essentially each 3.5mm patchbay socket is home to a certain audio process or effect which either combines with the effect from another socket when they are patched together, or sometimes just produces an entirely new effect you've never heard before. Multiple simultaneous connections may also combine in unexpected ways to produce a brand new unexpected effect, giving you a virtually unlimited number of warped alterations and audio mutations.

"For over a decade we have been creating and supplying aural havoc with rewired childrens toys, modified drum machines, abused samplers and audio insanity machines. Our instuments have featured in both DJ magazine and Future Music cover CD and we have supplied and modified custom machines for:
The Chemical Brothers, Factory Floor, Pedigree Cuts, Raiden (renegade hardware / Off Key records), The Plump DJ's, Jacknife Lee, Bloc Party, Twisted Records (Hallucinogen, Shpongle, OTT, Younger Brother etc), Howie Miura (Island / Def Jam), matrix22 (12 Inch Thumpers, Brick records), Groove Criminals, Sweet Noise, Noise Inc and many many more.
TODAYS VICTIM: AKAI S01 SAMPLE GRINDER
The fact that the Akai S01 exists at all is fairly baffling fact as to all intents and purposes it was obsolete before it was even released. A 16 bit mono sampler with 1MB of memory as standard expandable to a massive 2MB maximum, sampling at a maximum bandwidth of 32khz, with no storage options other than a floppy drive, with only one output and only a 3 figure numerical display to edit with. Even the rather odd addition of 2 MIDI in's doesn't save it from being a rather cofusing addition to the Akai range. EMU and Ensoniq must have been pissing themselves laughing when Akai released the S01 for £999 in 1993 (yes you did read that right - £999), but the S01 has the last laugh as our mods have taken its sound mangling possibilities way beyond any other rackmount sampler ever produced.

" It's a vintage synthesizer - organ (called synthorgan) with three sounds: Organ, Bass, Synthesizer. You can mix ratios of sounds between them or use only one of them. I really love bass and synthesizer sound which are unique and fat. It's not Moog, it's not Roland, neither Korg - it sounds it's own way (you probably know what I mean if you ever heard synthesizers like Elektronika EM25 or Polivoks). If you're looking for bubbling and dark bass with beautifull VCO filters (section of synthesizer is really creative, you have filters, modulations and ADS included!), absolutely vintage chorus and delay, massive leads and other here it is! As for organ sound - it's full, really dynamic sound, so if you like Hammond you'll like it very much! Ouch, it also have expression pedal which works fine! Please check this track which I made with this synth. The bass and this horror synth are straight from that machine!! - https://soundcloud.com/kirkkirk/pies-zdech Here's another preview of synth combined with one more device made by somebody else - www.kucz.net/sounds/VENTAPROMO.mp3. And another one, bass and organ plays here: www.giva.xf.cz/house_of_the_rising_sun.wma
Everything works fine except one thing - I have no idea why but chorus effect do not work. To be honest - I never gave it to specialist so it could be just time and dust . The rest works good. More photos you can find here: www.giva.xf.cz/venta.rar"

Proppellerhead Announces PX7 FM SYNTHESIZER
Published on Dec 11, 2012 by PropellerheadSW
"The PX7 FM Synthesizer is a six operator FM synth for the Reason rack. As a faithful recreation of the popular DX series keyboards, it provides a wealth of new sounds, ranging from classic 80's bass and brass to modern textures, leads and growls."
"The PX7 FM Synthesizer is a six operator FM synth for the Reason rack. As a faithful recreation of the popular DX series keyboards, it provides a wealth of new sounds, ranging from classic 80's bass and brass to modern textures, leads and growls.
But PX7 is not only an emulation of a classic keyboard. With an easier interface, macro controls for quick and powerful tweaking of sounds, stereo spread, and full integration with the Reason rack, it takes FM synthesis into the age of Reason.
In FM synthesis, or Frequency Modulation, sounds are generated by layering or modulating the frequency of sine wave oscillators, called operators. The 32 selectable algorithms decide how the operators are connected, and which modulates what.
The envelopes, one for each operator, are more advanced than those you typically see in synths, with a number of different breakpoints for extremely precise control over the modulation.
With the new macro controls you get tons of new tones out of a single patch — even without a full understanding of FM synthesis.
PX7 includes a great set of new patches and Combinators with sounds ranging from modern to futuristic. But perhaps best of all: the PX7 FM Synthesizer is patch-compatible with the classic it's based on—and faithfully reproduces its trademark tone. A ton of patches from the original is included with PX7. Our online patch converter takes Yamaha DX7 patches and converts them to PX7 format, giving you access to tens of thousands of presets for all styles of music.
DX7 ➔ PX7 Patch Converter:

PX7 FM Synthesizer. A six operator frequency modulation digital synthesizer for Reason.
Features:
- Six operator classic FM synthesis for the Reason rack
- 32 selectable algorithms
- Advanced envelope generator
- Includes tons of classic and vintage presets, ranging from 80's bass to keys and brass
- Comes with a set of new, exclusive patches for modern music productions
- PX7 does not require a full understanding of FM synthesis—the macro controls make tweaking sounds fast, easy and fun.
- Propellerhead's online patch converter lets you convert any Yamaha DX7 patch to PX7 format.
- CV control of operator levels lets you apply modulation from any device in the Reason rack.
- Combine two PX7 synths with the Combinator to easily create layered sounds that never was possible with the hardware it's based on"

Mystery Rhythm Machine - Barns & Mullins Percussionet 20
This one in via LT. If you have more info on it, please leave a comment or email (icon bottom right of site).
"I recently picked up an old rhythm machine at an estate sale, It's called a Percussionet 20, made by Barns & Mullins, London, England.
I think it may be rare because I could not come up with any info about this unit online anywhere, even tried Emailing Barns & Mullins twice, but they never responded.
Perhaps one of your readers may have some info about this oddity.
It will play all of the rhythm styles such as ( Fx - Foxtrot, Tw -Twist, Ch - Cha Cha, Tg- Tango etc.) at the same time, so you can combine various rhythms, also you can select and de-select the individual instruments in the rhythms such as: Snare, Tom Tom, Side, Bass, Bongo etc.
Rear has Hi and Lo output and ¼ " footswitch input that starts and stops the rhythms.
Add some verb and delay or modulation effects and it sounds pretty incredable.
As usual, Charlotte the cat has her own thoughts about my Percussionet 20, see attached photos."

"For sale is my much loved Roland EF-303 Groove Effects. Much more than just DJ or studio effects box. I used it mainly as a step sequencer. It’s also a TB-303 emulator as well. Unusual piece of gear that has 3 main uses. The effects have great real-time control and are very usable. The step sequencer is great for adding that analogue sequencer feel to your MIDI gear. It’s in good condition..."

Linn 9000 Linndrum Drum Machine and MIDI Sequencer w Minitaur
Published on Dec 10, 2012 by ar2jr - Minitaur comes in after 3:47.
"Showing off the legendary Linn 9000 currently for sale and showing the not much discussed sequencer side of it which is incredible. Listen to that lively timing! This was what eventually led to the MPC. This has the 6.62 Forat OS which gives you an additional 60K for sampling from the floppy."
This one in via Matia.

"This one is packed with lot's of amazing features. It has the FORAT 6.62 OS which allows this machine to load samples into memory and FIXES ALL THE BUGS normally associated with the Linn 9000. It's been furnished with brand new batteries and all of the pads work completely. They are quick to trigger and feel incredible. This is what an MPC should feel like. This unit has the trigger inputs and also the SMPTE card but it does NOT have the sampling A/D card HOWEVER you can load samples via floppy or burn EEPROMS. Contact bruce Forat and he can make you a custom Linn LM 1 set.
The kick drum is also not the standard Linn 9000 kick but is instead Kick 7 which is the superior kick that was put in after the machine had been on the market and people complained about the lackluster factory kick.
Also, because this is the Forat OS, the sequencer is GREATLY expanded and is basically what the MPC sequencer should have been with better timing and FEEL than anything else out there. The sequencer includes comprehensive sequencing over 16 channels, step edit mode or live record, and a comprehensive song mode. MIDI SEQUENCES CAN BE DIFFERENT LENGTHS THAN DRUM SEQUENCES! What this means is that you could come up with a drum groove and play a melodic arrangement that is of a different bar count than your drums!"

Frostwave Fat Controller CV/Gate MIDI Synthesizer Sequencer

"Forget paying 2k for an ARP Sequencer. The classic and rare Frostwave Fat Controller sequencer is similar and has all of its features and way more and is much more rock solid time wise and sync wise. The last one on here went for $700, they've sold for up to $1000 given their rarity and popularity. These are long out of production.
The reason that this one is only 550 is that one slider cap is missing and one nut in the back is also missing. This was the condition I bought it in. But it works and comes with its power adaptor which is important as it's not your standard power adaptor. And while it's not in absolutely perfect shape it is still in very good condition..."
