Depeche Mode - Photographic / Some Bizzare Version (Cover by Synthfluencer)

video upload by Synthfluencer

"'This is Photographic!' - Depeche Mode fans know these words Dave Gahan yelled when playing live in Hammersmith Odeon in 1982. Actually, Photographic is a song from the very, very early days of Depeche Mode and might be created when they still called themselves 'Composition of Sound'. The 'Some Bizzare Version' is actually the first song they officialy released ever on a compilation named 'Some Bizzare Album'.

The song is one of the darker, harder DM songs and this version is even more raw and gritty. It is very reminiscent of the transitions from punk to wave, and the DIY aesthetic of punk in particular comes to the fore here with the hand-played synthesizers. Well before Depeche Mode redefined the genre of synth pop this early version of 'Photographic' is recorded on the gear they could afford back in the days: A Kawai S-100F, a Yamaha CS5, a Moog Prodigy and a Korg KR-55 drum machine. In my cover version I use two of the original synths, the Kawai and the Yamaha to recreate an authentic sound. The role of the Prodigy is taken over by a Behringer Model D, some support sounds by Pro-1 and Pro-800."

♫ Jamming With a Bunch of Synths ♫ ----- (79)

video upload by

"This jam is a little weird. My phone was on low battery which made the video slightly glitchy. I was a bit distracted during this recording so it's maybe a bit more boring than usual. There is also a couple mysterious audio drop outs near the end of the video. I didn't notice these prior to uploading so it's possible something went wrong when combining the audio and video files or something.

Behringer System 100 Demo

video upload by gstormelectro

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2024

Got around to patching the Behringer System 100 today. Plays well with Arturia Keystep Pro. Give the 172 module phaser and chorus effects a spin. And that 182 sequencer, I love how it is not pitch quantized and gives a weird Stranger Things vibe. Let's do this! No additional mastering or post-effects. This video was not sponsored.

0:00 Three Osc Voice structure plus (filter res) Kick and (white noise) Hats.
1:37 172 module | Phaser
2:17 172 module | Using the short delay for chorus/flanger stuff
2:47 Dual Two-Osc structure
3:51 Stereo Syncopated 182 Sequencer Patch"

Kraftwerk - Spacelab (1978) [Cover by Synthfluencer]

video upload by Synthfluencer

""Spacelab" was published by Kraftwerk in 1978 on their 7th studio album 'Die Mensch-Maschine' (The Man Machine). The album is one of Kraftwerk's best-known and most successful releases and is considered a milestone in pop history. Alongside the top hits 'Die Roboter' and 'Das Model', 'Spacelab' is also one of Kraftwerk's most iconic songs. The song received special attention when Kraftwerk performed it during their 2018 tour in Stuttgart together with German astronaut Alexander Gerst, who was live from the International Space Station (ISS).

With the cover, I stick to the original version as far as possible. I only added the radio announcements at the beginning and in the middle of the song. The musical structure is not very complicated: I play the lead voice with the Kawai S-100F synthesizer, which is about as old as the song. The prominent pad is played by the Behringer Pro-800. The strings I played with the Waldorf Streichfett. The bass arpeggio is a layered sound I created with the Behringer Model-D, the deep filter bass with the Behringer Neutron. The vocoder voices are self-recorded with the help of the Yamaha MODX. At the beginning you can hear the Behringer PRO-1.

In addition to my own recordings, I use audio, video and picture material from the NASA archive (https://images.nasa.gov/)."

- Send Bank and Program Change
- Request any patch from the synth, but only Oscillator A Volume is read
- Write a default patch to the synth (any location), with user chosen Oscillator A Volume
NB:
- Requires a TouchOSC license (https://hexler.net/touchosc)
- Make sure to select "PRO 800" in the TouchOSC application menu / Connections... / MIDI / Connection 1 / Send Port and Receive Port sub menu to enable bidirectional communication

Have fun!
PS: In v3.0, SYSEX strings parsing / encoding procedure has been 'industrialized' which should enable future synth support with minimal effort"

Behringer PRO-800 Bidirectional Editor for TouchOSC

Behringer PRO-800 TouchOSC Bidirectional Editor v2.0 from synth_nyc on Vimeo. Audio comes in at 1:30.

via synth_nyc

"The editor is augmented by LUA scripts.

Why TouchOSC?
- It’s OS agnostic (it works on MacOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android)
- Hexler has been around since 2007 and in my experience with TouchOSC, it has always been supporting the latest OS

If you have any questions or if Behringer or anyone is interested in licensing it, please contact me via my website:
https://synthnyc.com

How does the PRO-800 sound?
I’m grateful to have owned a SCI Prophet-5 Rev2, a Wine Country Sequential Prophet-5 Rev 3.3 and currently own a SCI Prophet-10 module; the PRO-800 sounds very vintage and close enough to its ancestors IMHO."

How Bata Make's Electronic Music

video upload by Bata

"Going over my whole setup briefly. This is probably the most detailed studio tour/setup description I'll do unless I start a patreon or something and need extra videos. I don't mention a lot of the random gear like outboard compressors, EQs, etc just the things I'm most commonly using in my videos. If you have questions feel free to ask in the comments but I won't be writing very long replies so try to keep the questions simple."

Behringer Update on Mini and Micro Synth Line

Two updates from Behringer on their Mini and Micro synths:

One:

"As we’re rolling out our amazing Mini and Micro synths, we have also drafted a CZ-1 Mini which is modeled after one of the most sought after Casio CZ-1. This was a highly revolutionary synth as it used unique Phase Distortion synthesis.

Would you be interested in a CZ-1 Mini? We believe we could make it for US$ 99."

Two:

"PRO VS Mini is now ready for production.

It has taken a bit more time than we had planned for, but we couldn’t help adding many more exciting features that you had requested during the development process. Thanks for all your valuable input. This is a monster synth in a tiny little package.

We hope you’re as excited as we are."

See this post for a demo.
