Yamaha CS-60: "Around and Back" by Raymond Castile

Published on Feb 11, 2017 raycastile

"This piece has six parts. If you don't like what you're hearing at any given time, wait a minute, because something different is coming around the corner.

Lots of CS-60 on this track. Most of the effects sounds, the brass sounds, bass, "guitar" sounds, flute sounds, and more. The arpeggios are the Roland D-50 and Ensoniq ESQ1. Novation MoroderNova is playing some 303-ish filter sweeping arpeggios. String pads are the Korg M1 and XILS V+. The ESQ1 also does the repeating string stabs toward the end. Drums are a combination of the Roland XP-30 and Emu Proteus I.

This is the first time in years I have incorporated a drum track. I'm not big on drums. But this piece started as an attempt to do an Italian disco-style track, then evolved into something very different. The drums are a vestige of the original idea.

This is also one of the few times I've used a compressor. I usually prefer a looser, more organic sound. But because of the dance-like quality of the second half, I thought it needed the compressed sound associated with dance music. I'm not experienced with compressors, so it's probably not the most elegant example of audio compression you've ever heard. I might upload an uncompressed version in the future.

The video splices together many takes. During the outro, when you hear the brass sound, you are not seeing the same take you are hearing. The video of that take got deleted, or was never shot. So I had to use video of a different take and dissolve out of it before it became obvious. That is why that shot seems to end prematurely.

During the intro and outro, when it seems like I am staring into space, not playing anything, it is not because I'm drunk, stoned or insane. I am performing the rising and falling glissando effects. See my fingers at both ends of the keyboard? I'm actually playing something, honest."

Acces virus C Tweaking (synthesizer Sample)

"Acces virus C Tweaking (synthesizer Sample)"

Published on Feb 11, 2017 freshnelly

"This tiny (3HP) VCO has 16 waveforms, 3 of them customizable, 1 of them recorded, and a built in envelope gen + VCA. The MOD input is phase and/or PWM in various waveforms. It can also be used to offset waveform selection and/or quantization scales (16)

Finally a face panel design is in place, thus the demo video, and production will start shortly.

I think this will make a lot of people happy, and since the price will be only $99 to $120 depending on total costs, it won't put much of a dent in the pocketbook as well as the rack."

Neutron Sound ROTORHEAD with phase synced to clock

Published on Feb 11, 2017 neutron7

"The upcoming neutron sound rotorhead using 4 inputs to 1 output. audio sources are orgone accumulator in drum mode, hexinverter mutant clap, microbraids in pluck mode, and x0x heart. all sequenced with cirklon. This demonstrates how you can get varying rhythmic sounds as the oscillator is running at a different speed to the clock input, but only updates its position on each clock. Also you can see how the virtual attenuverter works."

DreamsOfWires - AJH Synth Mini Mod

Published on Feb 11, 2017 DreamsOfWires

"I doubt very much this recording does it justice, but it's certainly the most beautiful sounding synth I've owned. After 3 months of creative block, burnout, or whatever it was, it's so nice to come back to this instrument.

Recorded across 4 tracks, to a metronome, but no midi or sequencing, just played manually (rather roughly). All sounds are from the Mini Mod system: the opening drone and following melody were just one VCO through the Ring SM module using it's two sub-octave generators, the other sounds either use all three VCO's, or one combined with noise from the Glide module. AUFX Dub and Space provide the delay and reverb.

Video footage is from a recent trip to Northumberland."

LXR Control Surface by Barcode

Published on Feb 11, 2017 Altitude909

"1st test of the Arduino based CS the the LXR drum synth"

"The control surface hardware and software are working exactly as expected! This is such a useful tool that really opens loads of possibilities for the LXR Drum Synth.

The control surface is technically an 'Arduino Shield'. You simply populate the components on the PCB, modify the LXR Control Sketch to your liking, upload the sketch your Arduino Uno, and plug in the Arduino Uno to the PCB. You now have a very powerful midi controller designed for your very powerful LXR Drum Synth."

Suzanne on LinnStrument with Parva synth (Leonard Cohen cover)

Published on Feb 11, 2017 Geert Bevin

"When Leonard Cohen passed away at the end of 2016, I wanted to create a tribute to him. He's the one who inspired me to be a singer-songwriter, and as a kid I played many of his songs to learn how to finger-pick on the acoustic guitar.

With the LinnStrument being the instrument I co-created with Roger Linn, it felt like a nice symmetry to try to cover some of Leonard Cohen's songs on the LinnStrument 128 with just one synthesiser as the sound source, very similar to the simplicity of an acoustic guitar.

The sound comes entirely from the Futuresonus Parva synth, set up as an 8-part multi to match the 8 rows of the LinnStrument. I spent quite a long time fine-tuning the sound of each multi-timbral part to be suitable for that particular note range and playing intent, not unlike each string of a guitar having a different thickness.

This is one of those projects that I worked on for such a long time, that I have no idea if it's actually any good or not, so I just throw it out there. I plan to record a few more Leonard Cover songs like this if people don't consider it complete heresy."
