Black Corporation KIJIMI Gets a Software Update

"Some great news from Black Corporation, we have just released a firmware update for KIJIMI to REV1.1.0. This update expands the overall filter range of Kijimi and takes modulation capabilities even further to allow for even more exciting directions to control modulation destinations.
Release Notes:
Individual attenuation of modulation amount in the mod matrix option selectable in the menu. (AMOUNT MODE -> INDIVIDUAL). To use, press lit mod matrix selector button and turn AMOUNT knob to attenuate to each individual destination. This allows the user to control modulations with increased detail.
LFO can now be synced to MIDI. (MENU -> LFO -> LFO1/2 -> SYNC)
Dividers and multiplayers are set by the LFO RATE knobs rate pots which range: 1/32, 1/24, 1/16, 1/12, 1/8, 1/6, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8. This is only in MONO LFO mode and when AD Destinations are set to amplitude.

The first Arturia Minibrute makes the solo sound with delay and live granular FX from the Percussa.
And the second Arturia Minibrute has only a Midi connection to the EMU Ultra Proteus which goes into the Percussa with live granular and delay FX.

OB-6: Manuel de Falla: "Fisherman's Song"

"Manuel de Falla's poignant 'Fisherman's Song' ("Récit du Pécheur"). Whilst a rarely-performed piano piece, it is a beautiful work I had planned to record on piano a while back. However, it also works well on synth (hence this recording). The hand-crossing/split octaves in the main phrase is quite unusual. Much fun to be had deciding which voice should be projected as the melody!
The range of this piece is handy for the OB-6 i.e it can be played across 4 octaves without hitting the transpose buttons. In saying that, large chunks of the keyboard repertoire can in fact be played within 4 octaves, i.e there is plenty of recordable extant repertoire that could be harnessed.

Update via Peter Grenader: "No time to read through all these posts to see if it's come up yet, but the Coupland was vaporwear...it never existed. I met Mark Vail, who's now a friend, by writing him a letter informing him that his story about the Coupland in his Vintage Synthesizers book (GREAT book) which mentioned it's only recorded showing was at the AES show in LA in 1978 was a farce. I was there - at their booth and their suite in the Hilton where the instrument was said to be. I was there on the first day, I was there on the last day. The only thing they had was a small model - about six inches across, sitting on a table. The booth was amazing - this radial orb multiple people could sit in, with a cover that came over each person which played what I remembered was a very impressive demo which swirled around four speakers inside the box. I, and everyone else, were blown away. They kept saying...'it will be here tomorrow, it'll be here tomorrow'...so I showed up the last day just to see it, figuring by the then it would have arrived...it didn't. I did see the frst Synthclavier at that show however. Their suite was across the hall from the Coupland folk. That completely kicked the crap out of everything else shown that year."

I thought I would have a bash at doing a remix. Turned out a bit Purple Disco Machine, but he's doing alright for himself.
Had to timestretch the samples in adobe audition to get the tempo right, but apart from that this has all been made on the OP-Z."

"Jinjé (aka Lee J. Malcolm) is the founding member and principal song writer of experimental Leeds-based band Vessels who have morphed into a maximalist live techno outfit, as evidenced by their last two albums - Dilate, released in March 2015 and The Great Distraction which came out on Different Recordings (PIAS) in Sept 2017. Lee also had a run of techno releases under his Lee J. Malcolm moniker for EPM Records. Lately, efforts have been concentrated towards his Jinjé project which, following on from the success of Amya (his first release back in 2014), has seen him move from strength to strength with many more releases on Messrs, Kick&Drum and a release on the mighty Ostgut Ton (the in-house Berghain label) with Big Skies which also had a vinyl release. With plenty of support from XLR8R and Nemone at 6music, 2019 has been another positive year including a return to Panorama Bar at The Berghain to perform live and having Jon Hopkins open up his Glastonbury set with I'm Psychic (released Aug 2019).
With plenty more in the pipe line for release and performance, the incorporating of modular synthesis and interactive visuals into his live set, the rest of the year is shaping up to be an interesting one. Watch this space."

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by the changing of the seasons here. On this track, I make good use of its fantastic compressor, as well as the Octatrack's ability to incorporate external gear into the scenes and an overall mixed, cohesive sound.
While exploring the Octatrack further, a used Deckard's Dream went up for sale in my town for a very good price. It is no exaggeration to say the Deckard's Dream (or rather its inspiration, the Yamaha CS-80) has been the sound of my musical imagination for my entire life. When I brought it home and paired it with the Octatrack, this improvisation finally made sense and came together. And yes, I think the Deckard's sounds just as good as I'd hoped. I'll probably show it in some more "traditional" ways soon.

Expressive E has released a free synthesizer preset pack that does not only require one of its unique Touché or Touché SE controllers. The deep modular nature of Massive X lets its users interact with its sounds much more expressively than on traditional subtractive synthesizers, making it a perfect candidate for the sound design talents of Expressive E’s team. Their free presets utilize Massive X’s macro controls with multiple parameters per macro, sophisticated programming, so users can immediately shape the sounds in creative ways with the turn of a single control. Even after the initial sound stops—for instance with short pluck or bell sounds—the macros that single control continues to put out volume and timbre changes with no need to re-trigger the note.

Owners of an Expressive E Touché or Touché SE controller will have an even more precise and supremely tactile experience with these sounds. The devices’ four-axis control surface offers the highest degree of touch and pressure sensitivity for both the most subtle and most aggressive parameter changes.
While anyone can open these free presets directly in Massive X, Touché and Touché SE owners can open them Expressive E’s Lié plugin host software. This allows the user to manipulate up to eight of Massive X’s macros at once with a single hand, making rhythmic manipulation of the sounds much more varied and physically intuitive. Each of those Massive X macro controls manipulates multiple parameters, making these synth sounds extraordinarily dynamic when used the Touché or Touché SE.
Touché and Touché SE hardware ships with more than 200 sounds powered by UVI Workstation software. These sounds are custom-designed to perfectly complement the controllers’ four-directional movements. Lié also includes presets for more than 30 popular software and hardware synthesizers from brands such as ARTURIA, KORG, MOOG, NOVATION, ROLAND, UH-E, and others. These free MASSIVE X presets are Expressive E’s latest sound design effort but by no means the last.

Better sound of Arturia MatrixBrute? Roland Jupiter and SH101, Korg MS20, Prophet 5?

"How Arturia is sounding with third filter, with a lot of other third filters :) I'm testing how Arturia working with different eurorack filters from Korg MS20, Roland Jupiter 6, Roland SH101, Oberheim SEM, Prophet 6, Polikvoks and Prophet 5. Also Three Sisters filter checking.
This is test from composer/producer to others composer/producers so don't expect engineer oscilloscope detailed test. I'm artist, not engineer so far :)
So here are full list of filters with same order as showing:
1. Korgasmatron II from Intellijel - Korg MS20 filter,
2. Doepfer A-106-5 SEM - Oberheim filter
3. Jove80 from System 80 - Roland Jupiter 6, Roland SH101 filter,
4. Curtis Filter from Dave Smith - Prophet 6 filter,
5. Z2040 from TipTop - Prophet 5 rev 2 filter,

I used FabFilter L2 at the end of signal, since I thing loudness isn't most important factor here. No other effects.
Also, when I put to much resonance to duck the whole signal for not destroying your speakers, headphones. So, it isn't truth how Arturia is sound with max settings of resonance, because signal is ducked.
And sorry SEM presented is 12dB, not 6dB, sorry of that!

Sunshine Jones A Love Letter To The TR 909 Rhythm Composer

"A Love Letter to the magnificent Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer.
Covering the basic features of the instrument, but largely focused on the impact this drum machine had on absolutely everything. My most personal love letter, I share stories of how I actually got one, and of being attacked for using a drum machine at all. It's fun, inspiring, and filled with love, devotion and gratitude to all of the maestros who had the courage to dance at a time when dancing wasn't on the minds of masses. The TR-909 is the voice of those of us who weren't done dancing, and cheered for disco's revenge.
Note: I am an electronic musician, a designer, and a huge fan of synthesizers and drum machines. I am not an authority, nor am I a historian. These love letters (I should think that it goes without saying) are Op Ed (opinion based editorial) and thus they are filled with hyperbole, artistic license and some degree of speaking categorically to get the point across. This is not the first word, or anywhere near the last word on the story I'm telling. It's just a love letter.
