オリジナル曲「LONELY RIDER」 Fujitsu FM77AV Version

Published on Mar 25, 2020 NozMusic

Googlish:

"The original song 'LONELY RIDER' announced in October 2014 was remade in March 2020 with the Fujitsu PC FM77AV.
For music production, the standard F-BASIC has been extended to OH! FM's extended PLAY statement 'EDPLAY'.
This made it possible to freely switch between self-made sounds, and effectively used three precious FM sound sources.

The PSG sound source also has a soft envelope added, so we play while switching the envelope.
In addition, part detune can be used, so you can create a chorus-like sound by layering two PSG sound sources.
I wrote MML with FM77AV for the first time in 32 years, but I can still do it ♪"

via Wikipedia:

"The FM-7 ('Fujitsu Micro 7') is a home computer created by Fujitsu. It was first released in 1982 and was sold in Japan and Spain. It is a stripped-down version of Fujitsu's earlier FM-8 computer, and during development it was referred to as the 'FM-8 Jr.'.

Although it was designed to be a cut-down version of the FM-8, most notably removing the (expensive) bubble memory technology, the FM-7 was given a more advanced AY-3-8910 sound chip capable of three voice sound synthesis, leading to a strong uptake among the hobbyist computer market in Japan and making it a more popular system than the FM-8."

And via Wikipedia here:

"The AY-3-8910 is a 3-voice programmable sound generator (PSG) designed by General Instrument in 1978, initially for use with their 16-bit CP1610 or one of the PIC1650 series of 8-bit microcomputers. The AY-3-8910 and its variants were used in many arcade games—Konami's Gyruss contains five[1]—and pinball machines as well as being the sound chip in the Intellivision and Vectrex video game consoles, and the Amstrad CPC, Oric-1, Colour Genie, Elektor TV Games Computer, MSX, and later ZX Spectrum home computers. It was also used in the Mockingboard and Cricket sound cards for the Apple II and the Speech/Sound Cartridge[2] for the TRS-80 Color Computer."

"Inside Out" excerpt: Joel Davel plays a historical Buchla 200 system

Published on Mar 25, 2020 Joel Davel

"I'd rather design than repair, but even more so perform. The nice thing about repairing an old modular system is being able to take it for a test drive. I used this 1972-era Buchla 200 system to generate parts for an as yet unpublished piece called 'Inside Out'. Here’s an excerpted video clip from late 2018. For Buchla nerds, this used a Buchla model 217 for touch input, model 246 to drive the sequence, 258’s are the oscillators, 284’s provide the envelopes, and a 275 drives the reverb. This the system Warner Jepson used"

Roland's Forgotten Space Echo

"In 1974 Roland released the RE-201 Space Echo. It went on to become the industry standard appearing in studios and live rigs the world over.

They released numerous other successful models (before and after) but the rarest of them all is the RE-5 Digital Space that had a very short run in Japan in 1988.

Its intended application is also quite surprising and in this video we take a look at what it does and contrast it with its famous older brother."

YAMAHA CS-80 Synthesizer Demo - Sounds, Patches & Ambient Soundscapes

Published on Mar 25, 2020 synth4ever

"Yamaha CS-80 analog synthesizer demo featuring various sounds, patches and ambient soundscapes on this classic vintage synth. This Yamaha CS80 synth demo features six different patches showcasing the Yamaha CS-80's oscillator PWM, pads, bells, noise, LFO and ring modulation capabilities. Filmed at Rosen Sound (www.rosensound.com) in Burbank, CA with slight reverb added.

A descendant of the legendary Yamaha GX-1, the Yamaha CS-80 is a beautiful analog synthesizer produced by Yamaha from 1977-79 and is most famous for being used by Vangelis on the Blade Runner soundtrack. Weighing in at 220lb, the Yamaha CS-80 is a massive synthesizer in terms of size and weight, and is the top of the line synth in the same family as the Yamaha CS-50 and CS-60.

The Yamaha CS-80 is well-known for being extremely organic and expressive, thanks to its incredible interface which includes plenty of sliders, a ribbon controller and polyphonic aftertouch on the 61-note keyboard, which allows for unparalleled performance flexibility.

The Yamaha CS80 can create lush strings, beautiful leads, powerful pads and strong basses and allows for deep sonic exploration and improvisation. In particular, the Yamaha CS-80's ring modulator is one of the most beautiful sounding and versatile designs ever created, as it features full control over attack and decay time, depth, speed, and modulation.

The Yamaha CS-80 is a bi-timbral, dual channel analog synth featuring 8 polyphonic voices. Both channels feature a complete VCO-VCF-VCA signal path and can be controlled independently. The Yamaha CS80's oscillators provide saw, square, PW and PWM, and sine waveshapes which allows for varied sound shaping.

The Yamaha CS-80 LFO features 5 waveforms including sine, square, sawtooth (up/down), noise and external signal and can go into audio rate for extreme sounds. The LFO can also modulate the VCO, VCF and VCA at different levels simultaneously for nice vibrato, filter modulation or tremolo effects.

The Yamaha CS-80 filter is a thing of beauty and features 2x high-pass and 2x lowpass filters. The filters do not self oscillate but have a lovely tone and quality to them. The Yamaha CS-80 also features independent ADSR envelopes for both the filter and VCA, allowing you to shape the sound over time.

Additional controls include adjustable touch response levels for functions including filter brilliance, vibrato and more. There is also portamento and glissando on board, as well as chorus and tremolo effects.

The Yamaha CS-80 is a beautifully expressive instrument and legendary analog synthesizer, which gives the player full control over their performance. In this demo I tried to showcase some sounds and patches in an ambient style, including pads and experimental improvisation. I hope you enjoy the music from this amazing synthesizer. "

Up for sale is one of the best Siel analog synths. Poly section serviced calibrated and cleaned works perfect, mono section serviced and has only issue with one mono preset not tuned correctly (picollo) you can hear it on the video example from 5:30.

Thanks for looking.

The Siel Cruise is a really interesting instrument. It helped Siel branch out of the Organ building business and into synthesizers. Besides the Sequential Circuits Fugue version, the Cruise’s two sections were also available as separate synthesizers from Siel—the Orchestra and the Mono. The Cruise’s Poly section, the Orchestra, was also released in the USA by ARP as the Quartet. So there is plenty of this synth to go around under various names and forms out there. It is quite capable of some really nice Mellotron-like strings, a fair good piano, though the single-oscillator driven Mono synth is a bit slim due to being a single oscillator, but still quite capable of decent bass and lead sounds.

Ouroboros Alea Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer

Published on Mar 25, 2020 Ouroboros Electronics

Ouroboros Alea + TR-606

"Alea is a two voice semi-modular analog synthesizer with sine wave oscillators, waveshapers, low pass gates, LFOs and a stochastic shift register-based sequencer. These elements work together as a standalone patchable instrument that is capable of everything from generative melodies and morphing drones to psychoacoustic percussion and silky sub basslines to esoteric techno and much more. The sine wave oscillators have CV and FM inputs paired with attenuators for each input as well as a two different voltage controllable waveshapers per oscillator which affect the timbre of the oscillators - one type of waveshaper which adds harmonics to shape the sine into a soft triangle wave, and the other waveshaper folds and shapes the phase of the sine. The oscillators also have sine outputs for modulating each other, as well as a vca which can be opened via cv or gate signals for timbral cross-modulation between the two oscillators. The oscillators can be used as completely separate voices, or together with one voice acting as a primary oscillator and the other as a modulation oscillator. The two voices also have individual outputs. Each voice has a vactrol low pass gate with two inputs per LPG - one regular gate input which will provide sustain for the duration of the gate, and one input which coverts the gate to a trigger for faster percussive sounds with no sustain and only decay. The LPGs can also be patched so that they are held open to create drones, or patched for amplitude modulation via one of the oscillators or modulation sources. The Alea has two LFOs - a LFO with triangle and square wave outputs as well as a VCLFO with a triangle output. The Alea's sequencer is based around a four-stage shift register which is clocked by the VCLFO and collects data from one of the oscillators for probabilistic pattern generation. The shift register can also be clocked from external clock signals from other instruments. The shift register cycles through it's four stages as it collects on/off data on each clock pulse and creates different arrays of outcomes as it cycles. Once the Alea has been patched and knobs have been set - the shift register will continue to cycle through patterns and generate different numeric combinations of it's stages in unity or in abscense like a roll of the dice or a song of the birds.

Each Alea is composed from a high quality lead-free PCB manufactured in China, RoHS components, and an enclosure that is made from fine hardwood (African Sapele was used in the photos shown above - but other units will be made from other species of wood of equal quality). The wood is finished with boiled linseed oil and the enclosure is backed by a powder coated steel bottom piece.
All designing, prototyping, assembly, soldering, and woodworking is done in-house by Ouroboros Electronics in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Ouroboros Alea is now available to order for $600USD + $15 shipping within the US and production lead times around one week or less before shipment.
