See @ NAMM! PANOPTIGON Prototype - New 2018 Optigan / Orchestron Disc Player

Published on Jan 22, 2018 optigandotcom

"This is a brief run-down of the main features of the PANOPTIGON, a prototype MIDI-controlled Optigan/Orchestron disc player (suitable for stage or studio) built by Robert Becker. Those attending Winter NAMM 2018 can see and play this unit for themselves at Quilter Labs - Booth 15120. Note that this unit is a PROTOTYPE / Proof-of-Concept unit, and does not necessarily reflect the design and/or feature set of any future production model. At this time, we cannot provide any estimates on pricing or availability- the unit is still in the R&D phase.

The Panoptigon will play vintage Optigan/Orchestron discs from the 1970s as well as the new line of discs made by since 2008. Our new line of discs provide additional functionality, as they have strobe lines printed on them which allow for automatic tuning, transpose, pitch bend, and even mechanical vibrato. Vintage discs were never printed with such strobe lines, and thus are not compatible with these extended features, but will otherwise play nicely and sound better than ever. All the lo-fi you love, presented in the hi-fi you need!

The unit comes with an onboard DSP effects processor, which provides reverb as well as other basic effects such as flange.

Control is via MIDI- in this case, a basic MIDI controller keyboard.

The audio heard in this demo is direct from the unit, with no additional post-processing applied. The slight distortion you hear when the reverb is turned on is an artifact of Youtube's horrible audio compression.

The PANOPTIGON was first featured here on MATRIXSYNTH.

"This MiniMoog was built in 1972 during the time when Moog merged with muSonics. It's been completely restored, and is beautiful. It was meticulously calibrated at 72º F. However, when the video was shot, we had a cold spell here in LA, which slightly affected the tuning across the entire range. Not a big deal, as this is a living, breathing instrument....the Stradivarius of synthesizers. Please enjoy this journey through the sounds of the MiniMoog!"

Noise Engineering NAMM 2018 Announcements - New Eurorack & 5U

Coming Soon: Spring 2018 releases Published on Jan 22, 2018 Noise Engineering

Coming soon: Mimetic Digitalis Published on Jan 22, 2018
"NAMM 2018 teaser for the upcoming Mimetic Digitalis. MD is a CV step sequencer that allows a shit ton of control."

Additional details via Noise Engineering:

"The NAMM Show (the National Association of Music Merchants) is upon us once again. If you have no idea what this is, it's an annual trade show extravaganza held each January in Anaheim. Last year, over 100,000 people passed through the Anaheim Convention Center according to their tally. That's to say: it's big.

In preparation for NAMM this year, Stephen and I are giving you, our illustrious blog readers, the first glimpse at our NAMM roll-outs this year. This year, we've got a larger booth, and we'll have some great people helping out showing off our gear. Stop by and say hello to us and our pals! We're in booth 10702 in the A wing. You'll know you're close when you find modular synthesizer mayhem.

We're focusing on the items we plan to push in the first quarter of 2018 (but we'll have lots of the older stuff on hand if you're still looking to try it out!). This quarter's crop includes a few small, focused, utility modules:

Bin Seq: a 4 HP switchable gate sequencer.

Muta Jovis: 4 HP switchable quad mute. Works well with Noise Eng rhythm generators such as Numeric Repetitor and Zularic Repetitor.

Soleo Vero: that 4 HP tuner we've been talking about for a while? It's coming! A patch-through stroboscope tuner. Tune up to three oscillators without having to patch/unpatch. The stroboscope makes it possible to tune without sound on!

Of course we have a couple of other goodies:

Clep Diaz: 4 HP Complex/multimode CV generator. Use Clep Diaz to generate stepped, random, or LFO CVs where you have control over directionality of the CV (up, up/down, or down) and over the nature of the CV signal:

In Step & Rand mode, choose the number of steps in the cycle

In LFO mode, control the amplitude of the LFO

Mimetic Digitalis: 10 HP 16-step two-dimensional CV sequencer optimized for live use. At its simplest, MD is a simple two-dimensional 16-step sequencer with 4 CV outs and a trigger out. Pause the clock to individually program each step...or...
use the encoder to live edit patterns
zero any step or combination of patterns with the Zero button
create a randomized, rhythmic CV with the Shred button
Edit to your heart's content, and return to your initial pattern (like a chorus!) with the touch of a button.
And it wouldn't be a Noise Eng product if we didn't give you lots of CV control!

But that's not all. At NAMM, we're also showing our foray into the 5U format. We'll have Basimilus Iteritas Magnus on hand, but we are pleased to announced that we will be releasing three of our oscillators: Basimilus Iteritas Magnus, Cursus Iteritas Magnus, and Manis Iteritas Magnus in 5U. Look for those for simultaneous release in the next few months. For those of you paying attention, a portion of the proceeds from the Manis Iteritas Magnus, like the Eurorack version Manis Iteritas, will be donated to Save Buy a module, save an endangered species!

And finally, we are announcing the release of ten limited-edition, unique 60-hp cases. Each case is handmade of aluminum and will come with a power supply and a different, bespoke set of Noise Engineering modules. Available only at, cases will be released over the next few months. Watch our social media and mailing list for details.

We're looking forward to seeing a lot of users and retailers at NAMM. If you're at the show, please stop by and say hello! We're at booth 10702.

22 01 18 Serge Modular System: juste pour le fun :)

Published on Jan 22, 2018 batchas

"I installed some old modules in a small rack and ended up jamming.
As usual, nothing serious, just fun.

Looks afterwards a bit hectic, because the cam is focused on the hand, which takes most of the screen. Though it shows well the exageration, as I played very loud and I did not care about all the different layers of sounds coming out from the different mixers on the Serge system. I enjoyed this short session and thought I should record a bit on video, cause it's the kind of sound I never play and I also liked its raw aspect.

The pot I'm turning is sending a quantized voltage to an oscillator. Let say it replaces a guitar solo on steroids."

BLL SHORT - Controller Box for Novation Circuit on Kickstarter

Published on Jan 11, 2018 bll instruments

via Kickstarter

100 Euro gets you one.

"SHORT is a MIDI controller compatible with Circuit Novation.

We're keen on our Groove Box, a tremendous tool which enables us to create great pieces of music. But you need to plug it to a computer to set up complex patches, and we thought it was not convenient on jam or live sessions, when you want to tune patches on the fly.

So we created a very simple MIDI controller: SHORT.

SHORT is a tiny, intuitive, battery powered tool. Just plug it to the groovebox and control every single synth's parameter.

Navigate through the parameters using Short's buttons and screen and use the 8 macro controls of the groove box to change their value. You have full, easy and immediate access to your synth engine.

Edit analogue resonance, Eq, change on the fly OSC2 waveform, …

Unleash the power of your groovebox with SHORT!

How is SHORT working?

It is necessary to use a SHORT ready patch, recorded in the memory of the Circuit as any patch.

The peculiarity of this ready patch is that macro controls have no destination. When you turn them, it has no impact on the synth engine.

On the other hand, they always send CC messages corresponding to their position.

SHORT retrieves these CC messages and translates them according to the page enabled on SHORT and sends it back to the Circuit.

You can access the synth engine parameters by navigating on SHORT's pages, and modify sound using macro controls.

For example, when you are on the filter page, macro 1 control the filter, whereas when you are on the Osc 1 page, macro 1 control the osc1 waveform.

You can edit all the parameters of the synth engine, including 10 matrix, reverb and delay, analog filter and more.

When you find an interesting sound, just record it on Circuit and your sound is memorized.

If you want to use a sound created with SHORT in another session, there are two ways to do that: you can copy the session and erase only the patterns, or you can save the patch with the editor on computer.

SHORT picks up macro controls signal only when you are on the synth 1 or synth 2 pages on Circuit. You can use Circuit normally, on other use of macros, like for drum, mixer or effects.

What about automations on macros controls ?

Because one of the advantages of the circuit is to record automations on the macros, we have planned a favs page.

In this page you find 8 parameters that you have chosen and you can record automations as you would with a classic patch.

Inconvenient compared to the classic use of the macros control, you manage only one parameter per macro instead of 4 usually, but you have access to all parameters including the oscillators waveform, the type of distortion, the lfo waveform, the reverb decay etc.

SHORT 's pages:

For each page you get acces up to 8 parameters with the 8 macro controls"

T 914 Fixed Filter Bank

via this auction

Anyone know what the T stands for?  I can't read the maker labels at the bottom of the modules.  It looks like C. TOENSCHAUM or something.

"T914 Fixed Filter Bank module. It is a clone of the famous Moog (TM) 914 Fixed Filter Bank and is part of my Moog (TM) Modular System 55 clone. As the original it is based on real inductors, not on semiconductor replacements. All parts are analogue. The inductors are top quality hand-wound 5% tolerance inductors. The frontpanel size is width 8.5" (215,90 mm) and height 8.75" (222,25 mm). Material is 2 mm black anodized aluminium. The labeling is engraved text white laid-out made by Schaeffer Apparatebau (TM) in Germany. The knobs are original Cosmo (TM) knobs like the original uses. Power supply is +/- 15V DC. For Moog (TM) Modular compatibilty the voltage regulators can be bypassed."

SYNTABLISM - the greatest instrument ever built

Published on Jan 22, 2018 sircut1200

"I´ve build a custom eurorack case and a fader module especially for #syntablism. For me, it´s the greatest instrument ever built. All the sounds you´ll here (except the Drums) are coming straight from the modular synthesizer and are played in one session.

Syntablism is the art of using a turntable as a musical instrument to create and/or manipulate sound with a modular synthesizer."

See this post for how it works. See the Syntablism label for more.
