"New dimensions in voice synthesis for the iconic Trinity computer from 1977!

Talker/80 is a new speech (voice) synthesizer for the TRS-80 Model 1. It offers DECtalk-based natural sounding speech, and can emulate the "official" TRS Voice Synthesizer as well as the VS-100 Alpha Products voice synthesizer. The original software runs without changes / patches. Both the VS-100 and the TRS Voice Synthesizer utilized the Votrax SC-01 speech chip. The SC-01 is "emulated" by means of DECtalk here (phoneme mapping).

Moog Mother-32 - Progressive Soundset (35 patches)

"In this soundset I tried to get the most interesting timbres out of the synth.
It may seem that a single Oscillator, Filter, simple Envelope and LFO can't do too much. But experiments with the patchbay give a wide range of sounds. Some timbres are supposed to be played on a keyboard. For others it's better to use Arp or Seq. But, of course, you're free to experiment.
There are mild and soft timbres, as well as wild and noisy.

The bank consists of 35 patches:
- 15 Leads
- 8 Plucks
- 2 Percussions
- 5 Sequences
- 5 FXs

By Sequence I mean a patch, where an internal sequencer is used and its parameters are modulated.
And, of course, you may use any of the presets from the soundset with the internal sequencer.
Percussion is a patch where you can get some drum tones depending on the low/high notes
In some patches I use «Assign» output. I did it for ModWheel, but you may try other sources.
You need up to 7 patch cords to recreate the patches.

I used drums and pads to accompany the patches + a bit of reverb/delay, so you may hear the timbres in a kind of realistic situations.
Audio examples in the catalog are dry and without other instruments.

Fantasy Soundtracks Ep:1 - 'Phase IV'

"First of a series of simple patches and recordings inspired by some of my favourite vintage sci-fi and horror from the cinema and TV. I thought it'd be a fun idea to see what I can do with a simple setup, perhaps ony 2 analog synth voices, and modest digital effects. The synthesizer soundtracks of the 70's and early 80's were often very simple, spartan compositions, which is what made them special I think.

In this instance I'm using my AJH Synth Eurorack modular synth, with the Precision Voltages being used as a kind of faux keyboard to shift the pitches of the two voices melodically. FX are Dubstation 2 Delay and EOS2 Reverb.

The film 'Phase IV' is a particulary unique sci-fi film from 1974 that I would recommend seeing. It has some excellent macro filming, a strong atmosphere, and even some synth music in the soundtrack. I didn't use any footage of the 'ants' because they really need to be seen in the context of the film to be appreciated.

- The O Coast is going into VCV Rack through the Chronoblob 2 and Plateau.
- The BSP is also triggering the Basimilus, which is going through the LedRover for extra character when needed.
- There's another copy of the Basimilus going through a HP filter and to the Mimeophon.
- I've recorded a wooden percussion frog into the Arbhar foe some texture.
- I also recorded the new cello instrument from Felt Instruments into Magneto in Sample mode, and this is going through Flame from Vult for distortion.
- I have a recording of the Basimilus on Morphagene, which plays it also in reverse.
- I also recorded the piano from Felt Instruments into Nebulae, which is playing it slower and it goes also through the Disting for reverb.
- I'm using the Microcell in Granular mode, and I recorded myself with a mic into it.

AKAI AX-80 vintage Synthesizer QUICK DEMO, no effects

"Some say the AKAI AX-80 is thin and uninspiring. Well maybe some of the presets are but the synth can be dark and moody and powerful with 3 LFO's

This one has the Tauntek OS which improves the use of the filter in that you don't have to re trigger the keys to hear any changes you make. It still steps a bit but I don't mind this at all


For some reason, these synths seem to get treated pretty badly and abused. Broken membranes, bricks dropped on them and cigarette burns galore. This one was save a few years ago. I have just finished calibrating it, which improved the synth greatly.

"Chorb is a Chord generator, simple scaler and pitch randomizer all in one.
Sometimes finding chords or pushing up chord variations can be tricky. Chorb is made for that.
He will be able to play four note in addition to the one curently playing, scale them, and play them randomly in a defined range !


Chorb will act if you set a note number value more than +0 and turn it On. He will play this note in addition of any note you are currently playing or a sequence currently running.
In Random menu, you can set if you want that valu playing randomly or not, and if so, between which values the random will act. (-) Values will not be negative, the currently playing note will stay the fundamental, it will be the lower value of the random range.

Only setting notes in additions each one of them can sounds cool, but also really weird and feel like you are doing anything. This is why Chorb have a simple Scaler. Simply disable the notes you don’t want, and your chords will not go on them. And the random will also play anything, but always tuned on the selected scale.

Of course every parameters is mapable.
And if you want to record your Chord progression to select and loop a specific part, you just have to put Chorb in a midi track, your instrument in another one, and set the midi in of this instrument track to be the one where Chorb is. Now, the records will have every notes Chorb will play !

"three guys vocal technique" is a formal extension of Beck's "multivoice." Consider trying it in your next project. The first guy is a normal announcer. The second is a weird or gruff voice, something to add texture. The final guy is secret, a whisper, something to add mystique.


Dudero Singing is related to "three guys," because it is a great way to inspire the weird guy. You take a synth like the stuber with rich inputs, and mangle it a little, and try to sing that. It can mangle lyrics and channel frustration into something mysteriously entertaining.

That was back in Baltimore. The brain scientist liked his eccentric synths, and svengali to the weirdo scene. Well I had this stereo filter, it was real wet, but we needed to add some Ciat to the Lonbarde, so it got the digital octave divider. The rest is history!

The 'matrix' in the name means you can route modulation in weird ways, a bit like a modular synth. I bought this in 2017, after years of waiting for one to appear on eBay, from a boutique synth seller who fully serviced the VX before selling it to me. It's been used in a smoke-free home studio setup since then, and well taken care of. Backlight has been replaced, everything functions as it should. I'm including a Roland M-256E memory card that works with this unit. Power is Japanese but a US convertor will also be supplied."

"Bontempi Minstrel Alfa HB402 keyboard (1983)
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the Minstrel Alfa. All parts were recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, delay and reverb were added as required. I sampled the piano voice and played it as a virtual instrument in order to access lower notes than are possible on the Minstrel keyboard itself - otherwise these tunes end up being a bit heavy on the upper-mids. Individual drum hits were sampled and processed to allow fresh beats to be built, rather than using the rhythms found on the Minstrel.

The aim of these videos is to see what you can create using sounds from retro classic keyboards together with current production tools. The Minstrel is a super-simple keyboard from the early 80s with analogue drums and (I think...) analogue voices as well.

Relax and tune into our live weekly improvised Drone Sessions. This twentieth session involves a drone featuring two independent Buchla style complex and modulation oscillators drifting in and out of tune. There are also other sound elements such as filtered pink noise and bell-like tones. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control, beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as mindfulness sounds as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. Drones are also great for a Sci-fi film soundtrack. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction. The fact that we are manipulating these oscillators live and in collaboration helps the drone meander ever so smoothly in an evolving fashion as we are always reacting to one another's subtle movements. These movements are improvised so there is an unrehearsed and reactive ebb and flow to the tones generated. Engage in the practice deep listening with us.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel and a cosmic vocal drone setup using two Boss RE-20 Roland Space Echo pedals.

"In this video the F5 gene of my chromosome 1 (Exons and introns) is used to program a modular synthesizer (Endorphin.es Shuttle System).

Blocks of 16 codons are used to control 16 parameters of the synthesizer like frequency, amplitude, filters cutoff, envelopes, FM modulations etc.

The experiment is a continuation of my sci-art research on my whole genome, which started at the EU's Joint Research Centre in 2019.

This particular gene was chosen due to SNP rs6025 in position: chr1:169,519,049.

The SD-1 is a battery powered drum synth with sound shaping controls and a rubber pad which, when hit, triggers the analogue circuitry for an infinite variety of possible sounds from deep bass to high pitches to sweeping disco tones.

The JHS Pro–Rhythm is a self contained drum synthesizer,featuring two V.C.O.s', a ring modulator, resonance control, L.F.O., white noise source, a sweep generator for oscillators, area V.C.A. Section. Thanks to it's advanced features and state-of-the-art circuitry, the JHS Pro Rhythm offers the modern percussionist an expanded form of electronic musical expression previously available only to guitarists and keyboard players.

From DAW sketch to DAWless song with the Elektron Octatrack MkII

"A live, semi-improvised track, performed entirely on the Elektron Octatrack MkII. Still in the island cabin, I decided to load some old stems into the Octatrack and see what happened.

Before I got into this all-hardware approach, I stalled out for years making fragments of songs in DAWs; it was really only the immediacy and performability of hardware that got me finishing electronic music with any regularity. So I thought I'd find something not too dusty and transfer it from DAW to DAWless. These are the results.

All the loops are my own, and made primarily with Maschine. Sounds come from a variety of Maschine-compatible formats, including Arturia's V Collection and the Korg Gadget series, as well as the Maschine sample library (the 808, in particular). The main loop of the song adheres pretty closely to my original DAW sketch.

But it's really the Octatrack that takes this from a sketch to a finished song. First, I created an entire second section with the Octatrack, a 'chorus' where the samples are chopped and pitched to a new progression. Second, and critically, I use the Octatrack's scenes to add variation to the samples, to progress through the song from a beginning to an ending, and of course to make things get wild and weird. Scenes are Octatrack magic.

Performed live and uploaded as is, with some limiting on the master (I used the Octatrack's master-level compression for most of the dynamics-shaping).

"A brief exploration with the Three Body, a triple digital FM/PM oscillator based on an FPGA platform.

I kind of drifted into harsh noise by cross modulating all three of the oscillators but it is also capable of the prettier side of FM.

No processing is used and all stereo FX are generated by phase modulation, two Maths (not shown) were modulating the phase and frequency indexes (build in analog VCAs).

The Three Body is expected to be available late fall/winter 2020, price TBA."

"The ThunderWave is a new type of electronic percussion instrument that you can build yourself. Instead of the traditional round drum pads, the ThunderWave uses curved ribbon controllers and force sensitive technology to create an expressive and intuitive interface that is both fun and easy to play. The instrument provides standard trigger, gate, and CV outputs, including volt/octave, for use with analog synthesizers. Each ribbon can also be divided into up to thirteen different zones, for consistent sounds using two drum sticks at slightly different positions. A 'striking force' trigger output and two force based envelope generators for each ribbon are also included. The ThunderWave is designed for the advanced DIYer, and can be built using common, easily available parts and tools.

This pedal was manufactured sometime in the early 1970's and the unit is serial number listed is 'B1174'. This pedal is in great used condition. The unit does power on but has not been tested for functionality. There are some cosmetic scuffs and scratches on the exterior case from normal use. Oberheim OB12 Is it just wrong?

"In this rather long video I try to demonstrate all the features of the OB12. Both it's weak spots but also it's strength's.
In my mind, it's a really good synth, well laid out and can do epic sounds. It has a lot of features that not many synth have. At least on papper. Some things just don't work. If it's because of a weak CPU or badly writen firmware, I don't know. But I just stay away from those functions instead. Just don't expect it to sound like a OB-Xa or alike. Rightly tweaked this can still sound huge and fat, quiky and mean."

My take: It's wrong, but a keeper. I almost gave mine up until I realized its unique charm. It's not the best sounding VA if "thick" classic analog is what you are after. The FM and Resonance can be ear splitting. The Ring Mod has a unique character. You have to be careful as subtle changes have a big impact. It's that oddball character that makes it. Yet somehow it can make some of the most lush sounding pads. It's an odd one for sure. I'm glad I kept mine in the end as it can do things other synths just can't. It's almost like they didn't fine tune or reign things in so put through proper effects you can get some real magic out of it.

"WMD Metron is a 16 track Trigger and Gate sequencer with tons of deep features, real-time control, and a very easy to use interface.

METRON can be expanded to have up to 64 CV tracks as well by adding the Voltera expander (4 CV tracks per Voltera)

Metron also sends commands via S.BUS to communicate to other modules that are on the same powered bus board. These messages are MIDI program changes that are primarily used for recalling presets on other modules using the METRON interface.

In this video, Alex goes through how to set up your METRON to send these program changes to the Malleko Voltage Block, allowing you to change the Voltage Block's presets remotely and automatically from METRON. this is great for a Eurorack live performance, where you are using METRON as the master sequencer, but would like to recall presets on your voltage block. METRON's S.BUS function allows you to send multiple messages in one sequence, per variation, or per track. Eseentially treated as a 17th track, you can also change the pattern length of the S.BUS track independent of the other tracks, meaning you can have a polymetric feel to your program changes."

"Another in our occasional series as we head into our 3rd month of lockdown. This time we're using the Modal Electronics Argon8M with OS2.0, the Pittsburgh Modular MicroVolt 3900, the Zoom MS70 CDR Fx pedal and the ROLI Seaboard Block and the Arturia Keystep. Together with the Retrokits RK006 USB MIDI host/router.

The ROLI is driving the Argon8 via the RetroKits RK006, allowing for direct MPE connection with no computer, the Keystep is running the MicroVolt 3900 which in turn is going into the Modal stereo line in. Argon8 then goes into the Zoom and out."

"Wow! For sale is an all original Yamaha KX5 keytar midi controller. Condition is very impressive, especially given its age. The metal housing provides a real heft unlike some of the other plastic Roland units of this era. The pitch ribbon condition is also very good. A few light scratches on the back, but nothing severe.

Tested and fully functional. Also includes extremely cool original case and very long blue midi cable. The only item worth noting is the plastic battery holster has a small crack at the end that has been repaired with a piece of tape. It works just fine, but you can easily source a replacement holster online if you'd like."

"Good night" Patch Feat Moog Subharmonicon, Eurorack modulation and Eventide h9 reverb

"Tonight I wanted to do a small ambient patch to test the Moog Subharmonicon synthesizer with modulation from some of my Eurorack module with a reverb from my Eventide h9 .

The Eurorack module I use are :
Tiptop Audio Circadian Rhythms and Z8000 Matrix Sequencer
VC Sequencer from RYO
and Quad Clock Distributor From 4ms
The clock come from the Moog and the Modular synth modulate some osc and some sub(that why sometimes it s little wrong, pretty hard to quantize everything sorry),they also modulate the timing of the modulation.

Left rack ear is bent a little bit, barely visible in rack. Other than that synth is in immaculate condition."
