Metropolis - Dark Theme Modular Music

video upload by George B.

"Well I woke up with this riff in my head, the first riff. I accidentally discovered the slow chord change while programming. That gives it the dark feel. I added two arps and the weird bass riff. All was programmed except the bass riff and the noise. Those two tracks were added live. Lastly I added the "clock" sound which also accidentally sync'd up with the heartbeat of the robot near the end.

Often you start in one direction and by accident end up somewhere else completely different.
Let me know what you think...Any good? Too weird?"

Synthesizer Concert #004 - Live Performance - Ambient / soft pop / slow EDM.

video upload by Synthesizer_Explorer

"'Discipline of Love' - an original song in a synth pop or slow EDM genre? Don't know how to classify my own music :) A song written for those that gave everything to their woman, but everything was not enough. Sad how we continue on with discipline and consistency but years go by and no gratefulness for all our work, not a single thank you.

Keeping with the current theme of inexpensive synths, maybe your first synth to explore your own music universe. This synth is now out of production, so the used market is all that is left. Using this $500 synth to illustrate how to make music and not spend huge bucks. This XW-P1 is self contained and produce completed music as shown in this video.

Song Discipline of Love: composed, performed, recorded and filmed by SEO (Synthesizer Explorer Orchestra).

Copyright 2017 song. Copyright 2024 video.

Only one instrument used for this recording, the Casio XW-P1, all sounds and effects produced by the Casio, recorded directly to a hardware SD recorder, the Zoom R24. No post processing was done."

Tre Modular - Steps (First Look)

video upload by Tre Modular

"This is first look at our upcoming module - Steps.

Steps is an analog Clock sequencer/processor. It takes clock signal and separates it into eight steps. Each step consists of one cycle where clock goes high and then low. Each cycle can be turned on or off, or it can be multiplied up to eight times with Burst mode.

Steps can also be used as a clock source as it has a built in clock generator that is normaled to clock input. With nothing pugged into clock input Steps will run by itself.

It outputs both gate and trigger signals and also has a clock passthrough output. If used as a clock source passthrough output will provide unprocessed clock signal.

In this patch Steps gets its clock signal from Keystep and sends it to Replicant ADSR that modulates Alisa VCF.

Ambient music with rhythms and visuals inspired by rain // Korg Kaosspad NTS-3 performance

video upload by Saul Stokes - Frequensea

"Frequensea Episode 6: Rain Maker

Creativity is an exciting feeling. It can pop into the mind at unexpected times for many of us. If we don’t choose to react to it, the idea or concept can slip away, much like how dreams can feel clear and sharp only to become blurred nothingness after a few minutes.

Recently, it’s been raining quite a bit in the Bay Area. The calming effect of pattering rain sounds so pleasant and intriguing that a creative spark popped in my head. The spark said, what if you built a long-form piece of electronic music around the patterning sounds of rain? At this moment, you either jump in or let the thought die.

This episode is slightly different from previous episodes in that I opted to perform it when it felt right rather than sit and wait for a live show date. Additionally, I set aside the intermission research that I’ve done on past episodes. For those who are interested in electronic equipment, I focus a bit on the Korg Kaosspadd NTS-3, which is just a fantastic open-source effect unit.

This is a slow-burn episode. It starts almost in drone territory and, at moments, dives into a bit of Blade Runner. Then, it arcs off into minimal beat scapes and ends with a dreamy soundtrack finale.

This is a DAW free, live mix down performance. Visuals were created using Touchdesigner."

"ABOUT THIS VIDEO

Step into music history with this one-of-a-kind educational deep dive into the making of Michael Jackson's iconic hit, "Thriller". Join me with legendary keyboardist Greg Phillinganes, guitarist Tariqh Akoni and a special horn section as we meticulously re-create the instrumental track and relive the experience of being in the room at the inception of this groundbreaking song.

The creation of "Thriller" was a masterclass in collaboration, uniting Michael Jackson's unparalleled vocal artistry, Rod Temperton's masterful songwriting and arranging, Quincy Jones' visionary production and casting of world class musicians and Bruce Swedien's groundbreaking engineering. Each played a vital role in pushing the boundaries of pop music as they transformed many big ideas into a cohesive work of art.

Designed for musicians, producers, and music history enthusiasts, this video immerses you in the experience of being in the room, watching the parts come to life, as the iconic record was created. It's a track-by-track exploration of the music, highlighting the incredible attention to detail required to honor the original session that brought together the unparalleled talents of Michael, Quincy, Rod and Bruce.

Using many of the same instruments and equipment that appeared on the original recording, we reconstruct the song’s intricate layers, recording and mix to our best precision and authenticity. We hope this journey allows you to feel the love, joy, and creative spirit that filled the room during the making of this timeless masterpiece.

Herzlich Labs & BRiES / SOLIST / 4 channel performance module & mixer with soft MUTE and SOLO

video upload by BRiES

"SOLIST by Herzlich Labs is a 4 channel mixer that can be used as an 'in between' module with your regular mixing setup as well. The main feature and the stars of the show are definitely the soft mutes and solo switches. These controls offer so much flexibility when it comes to creating a dynamic performance (buildups, drops, ...). You can use SOLIST for mixing, muting and soloing audio as well as CV, you can use the direct outs and the mix out at the same time making it possible to use the mix out as a send effect or for parallel processing.

SOLIST was inspired by a suggestion I made to LB of Herzlich Labs. I know he's really passionate about any kind of performance module and since vactrols are something he has extensive experience with I was convinced he would create something wonderful... and that's exactly what he did."

16:39 jam with direct outs
19:18 acid jam with mix out
21:51 closing thoughts
22:22 thank you for watching!

via Herzlich Labs:

"Solist is not your average performance mixer and mute combination - far from it. Designed in collaboration with Bries, Solist contains four channels of soft vactrol muting, controlled by tactile and pleasantly clicky mechanical switches. Solist will help make your performances shine - but most importantly, the red solo switches allow you to override the current state of the mute switches, allowing for creative transitions between solo and mute states during your performance.

While the audio circuit is fully analog, it is also entirely isolated from the digital circuit that controls the mutes. Running on a fast and reliable Raspberry Pi RP2040, you get all the benefits of digital control without the downsides of digital audio processing. Best of all, the mechanical state of the switches determine the state of the module, so even if you power cycle, you will return to your previous state.

The analog mixer section can be used simultaneously with the individual outputs of the Solist, so for those who already have a mixer solution, the buffered individual outputs will bypass the mixer entirely. You may of course also use both simultaneously for exciting parallel processing opportunities.

Solist brings a whole new aspect of muting and soloing to your Eurorack performances, and with soft opening and closing vactrols, you'll never have to worry about clicks, truncated transients or actuation noise."

"RANDOM SOURCE SERGE VC RESONANT EQUALIZER (VCRESEQ)

Finally available after popular demand, the Serge Modular VC Resonant Equalizer by Random*Source packages the beloved Serge RESEQ into an expanded format with voltage control over each of the 10 bands. With the exception of the top and bottom bands, the Resonant EQ has garnered a reputation for its universally musical characteristics, thanks to most bands being spaced apart by Major 7ths rather than perfect octaves. This means that multiple bands won't overly resonate with the frequency contents of arbitrary signal inputs, leading to more versatility and usefulness on a variety of sounds.

Each band can boost or cut its corresponding frequencies by up to 12dB, and the CV control capabilities of this version make it more dynamic and magical than ever. Attenuverters for each allow you to define how much a control voltage will positively or negatively affect that band. Two inputs allow you to process multiple signals simultaneously without an external mixer, while a Feedback control allows you to introduce chaos and instability for a variety of delightful chirps, squelches, and squeals. In addition to dual main mix outputs, two Combination outputs give you some additional flexibility in routing and patching—though keep in mind that this module is designed for musicality and not mixing perfection, as moving any band will affect both outputs. Should you have the space to welcome it into your modular rack, the VCRESEQ would be a phenomenal addition to your Eurorack system and greatly expanding your sonic palette.

SERGE VC RESONANT EQUALIZER (VCRESEQ) FEATURES

Expanded version of the classic Serge Resonant EQ
Most bands spaced apart by Major 7ths
12dB of boost or cut available per band
CV inputs and attenuverters for each band
Two input channels
Feedback control
Dual mix outputs plus two Combination outputs"

"New module(s)!
A very simple MULTIPLE module, 2HP.
But all pin are available at the back.
to configure as you want (jumpers)
to connect something else (insert cable)

Two versions:
8 jack
6 jack + 2 switches

Can be used to extend the 4TOMS or the UNDULA modules
... or for circuit bending/DIY

With the MULTIPLE, you can have access to all the CV available."

Improve your DUAL UNDULA OSCILLATOR

video upload by LARIX ELEKTRO

"In this video, we will see what we can add, and with which modules."

via LARIX-ELEKTRO

"WHAT'S THAT THING ?

This is a configurable multiple module.
There are two versions: 8 jacks, or 2 switches + 6 jacks.
Of course, the package include only one module, not the two versions !

On the back, for each jack:
- Access to the tip of the connected jack cable.
- Access to the Normaled pin.
With the jumper, it's possible to select which one are connected to the internal bus, to connect multiple jacks together like classical multiple modules.

One more jumper to connect the internal bus of the 1 to 4 jacks with the internal bus of the 5 to 8 jacks.

The version with switches has three pins on the back for each switches.

The module can also be used as an extension to LE modules with hidden functionnalities:
Like the 4TOMS or the DUAL UNDULA OSCILLATOR.

The module is also useful for all modules with access point at the back, or to hack/modify modules.

Cables, to use the module as an extension, are not provided with the module."

Ableton Live Presets: Lo-Fi Noisy Bass, Pad, Synth Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Ableton Live - Space Lost is a collection of 50 presets that includes: 7 Arps, 3 Bells, 11 Basses, 6 Leads, 13 Pads, 4 Plucks, 6 Synths.

📻 This bank of presets is inspired by space, lo-fi, and retro sound, adapted to modern times. Powerful, deep basses and floating pads will help you create unique compositions suitable for both lo-fi genres and more commercial projects with electronic, pop, and rock vibes.
Many presets feature a more universal character while still retaining their distinct individuality.

📦 Get this soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/able...
👤 The author of the soundset is skendi (Arseniy Pushkov).

🎹 The presets are presented in the Instrument Rack format, which combines synths and effects in a single device. Each Instrument Rack has 8 Macros that make it easy to develop timbre and adjust key parameters.

🎛 The macros are a significant part of the soundset. They can change tone, stereo width, modulation depth and rate, noise level, distortion, detuning, space/echo/reverb, effects mix, envelope parameters, and others.
You may control them via MIDI controller like Push, use them for automation, or map the macros to Ableton modulators like LFO, Shaper, and others.

For the soundset, we utilized only Ableton Suite's built-in instruments and effects. No external installations, such as M4L devices or samples, are required.

The soundset is suitable for many genres: ambient, electronica, IDM, trip-hop, lounge, downtempo, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, trance, deep, progressive, techno, retrowave, synthwave, breaks, jungle, drum and bass, dub and others.

"It’s in phenomenal physical shape for its age. The membrane buttons had been previously replaced so they work like a charm. Comes with power cable and will be packaged very securely.

The only strange workaround is that the Assignable Control Fader doesn’t work. Instead, the Volume Envelope Release Fader controls both the selected Assignable Control parameter and the Volume Release at the same time. So when you move the Release fader, it affects both. Weird, but I usually set the Assignable to something that doesn’t affect the sound so it never bothers me. It’s probably a simple fix in the right hands. This synth just sounds too good to care! Everything else works well and I haven’t had any issues creating with it. One day I will regret letting this one go."

Bruxa by MakeNoise & Cortini | It's a GOOD witch.

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"While MakeNoise is focusing on the Resynthesizer, now is the time people are finally receiving their Bruxa. While it inevitably reminds of Strega and the Lyra 8 (FX) I think it's cleaner, more musical and easier to control. However, we can't debate personal taste and the distinct sound of the mono delay may be too lo-fi for some.

I got truly amazing results when I hooked it up with Echophon. What's not to love. I pre-ordered Bruxa when it was announced, and pre-ordered a second one after the Asheville flood. I would not recommend getting two, especially with Echophon nearby, but a dual Bruxa can make some great eerie textures that remind of the mighty Erbe-Verb."

OBERHEIM OB-Xa (x2 Collector vs Player Grade Demo)

video upload by Synth Tailor Electronics

"Here's two very different looking Oberheim OBXA's that just had full restorations at Synth Tailor Electronics. One is in very minty "Collector's Grade" cosmetic condition, and the second one had a very poor life on the road. Surprisingly, the mint OBXa landed in the shop with a lot more problems than the player grade OBXa.

0:00 Intro
0:38 Collector Grade OB-Xa
20:10 Player Grade OB-Xa

Both units had major restorations to each including: Power Supply Rebuild, Voice Cards/Tray Restorations, Left Hand Controller Rebuild, Upper/Lower Motherboard rebuild, and a Full Calibration/tuning. We installed Bourns 25 turn high quality trimmers on the voice cards (x6 per voice card: PW, Initial Frequency, Volts Per Octave.) This is critical to install high quality trimmers in these to have stable tuning!

Surprisingly, me personally liked how the less desirable cosmetic unit sounded, compared to the nicer cosmetic unit. Both were early revision/ both different revision OBXa's, but both sound great. These truly are such an iconic 1980s Analog Synthesizer designed by the great Tom Oberheim.

If you have a broken Oberheim OBXa or any other vintage synthesizer, drum machine, outboard gear, or rare obscure gear that needs repaired/restored, please reach out on our website contact form or email."

A lot of things has been happening, family, work, life etc. I thought that id show some lifesigns, been rearranging in my studio a bit, selling some gear.. getting some new stuff. The biggest thing being the UDO Super Gemini. I have coveted this machine ever since i saw it released and today it is mine.

What you hear is Preset A1 with some slight tinkering.. a tad of reverb in my DAW and thats it. No fuzz, no flashing lights.. just the old BURG in the first moments exploring his new synth.

Note, this is a dynamic jam, so please watch the volume :)

Take care all and talk to you soon!

Meet the minichord Benjamin Poilve

video upload by Seeed Studio

"This project made by Benjamin (https://buttondown.com/BenjaminPoilve) is a pocket-sized instrument that allows anybody to create nice sounding chord progressions. While it is very simple in its usage, it has a lot of musical capabilities. There is an online interface to customise the preset sounds.

The repository for the project is there https://github.com/BenjaminPoilve/min...."

"The minichord has :

21 main chord buttons, divided in 7 column of 3 buttons;
1 "sharp" button (on the top left).
Each column of the main chord buttons is associated to a note of the C Major scale. It is indicated by the letter on the first row of buttons.

Each row of the main chord button is associated to a chord type:

the first row will produce major chords;
the second row will produce minor chords;
the third row will produce 7th chords.
By following the row and the column of each button, we can identify the specific chord associated. Here is the full table of the chord available by the push of a single button

The harp touch zone is divided in 12 different section, stacked vertically. Touching each section will trigger a note. Notes can be held by keeping the contact with the section.

This touch zone can be "strummed" by sweeping the finger across all sections, or individual notes can be triggered.

The preset selection buttons can be used to switch between preset. The minichord has 12 internal preset (see "Default presets"), that can be replaced by custom presets (see "Making custom presets"). Going up after the 12th preset will circle back to the first, same as going down before the first will circle back to the 12th.

The main led will shine with a different color for each preset to help you identify the current selected one.

Each of the three potentiometer has one main function, designated by the marking on the enclosure :

The first potentiometer from the top sets up the volume of the chord section;
The second potentiometer from the top sets up the volume of the harp section;
The third potentiometer from the top is assigned to a different function for each preset, depending on what is usefull for it.

The rythm mode button (on the top right) has two basic mode:

discrete: the chord only stays on for as long as you keep the relevant button pushed. In that mode, the indicator led will be off.
continuous: the chord will keep playing until you push a new button, and seamlessly switch to the next chord. In that mode, the indicator led will be on.
Simply push the rythm mode button to switch from one mode to the other. That button may also be used to switch to the arpegiator mode with a long push, but that subject is handled in the "Advanced usage" section.

Charging is done through the mini USB jack available on the buttom right of the minichord. Connection to any USB outlet will do, and it will draw 500ma of current.

When charging, the top right led will shine red.

Full charge should be below 3 hours, and the top right led will shine green once the full charge is attained. Once fully charged, the minichord will play for around 7 hours.

When the battery is getting low, the main led will pulse. Once the pulsing start, the minichord can play for around 15 minutes more. You can play the minichord while plugged in."

The Ultimate FM Polysynth
Unleash the full potential of FM synthesis with TWISTfm, a cutting-edge polyphonic synthesizer that blends vintage FM synthesis with advanced analog filtering and modern control.
Designed to offer a rich, dynamic sound palette, TWISTfm is the perfect tool for musicians and sound designers looking to push the boundaries of sonic creativity.

Vintage FM Power
At the core of TWISTfm are two legendary Yamaha OPL-3 YMF262 FM chips paired with dual YAC512 stereo DACs, providing 8 discrete voices. Each voice is equipped with its own analog multimode filter for an unparalleled range of sound design possibilities.

8 Analog Multimode Filters
With HEAT and Dual Resonance Modes: Featuring 8 individual analog filters, inspired by the iconic designs of Mutable Instruments, TWISTfm gives you precise control over sound shaping with 15 filter modes, including low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, phaser, notch, and more. The HEAT parameter adds anything from warm, subtle saturation to harsh analog distortion, allowing you to push the filters to their limit. Additionally, you can switch between two resonance flavors—LIQUID, for smooth and subtle resonance, and MS20, for more aggressive, cutting tones. With digital control over resonance and cutoff, the filters offer flexible modulation and the ability to store settings with presets.

Perfect for Studio & Live Performance
Whether you're composing in the studio or performing live, TWISTfm’s robust feature set and intuitive design make it a powerful addition to any setup. Its combination of vintage FM tones and modern control capabilities offers a unique, versatile sound engine capable of producing everything from smooth ambient pads to aggressive basses and leads.

Full MPE compatibility
TWISTfm's MPE mode fully supports three dimensions of control—pitch (X), timbre (Y via CC74), and pressure (Z)—offering precise per-note modulation for unparalleled expressiveness and depth in your sound.
