Mutable Instruments Rings - Alternative Firmware!
video upload by The Unperson
"Mutable Instruments Rings is one of my all-time favourite Eurorack modules, and I’ve made many videos about it over the years. As a resonator and physical modelling synthesizer, it’s been a core part of my modular synthesis and electronic music setup for a long time. I thought I knew all there is to know about Rings, but then I discovered this alternative firmware which greatly expands the features, and breathes some new life into this old module.
In this video I explore a range of new features within Rings, including frequency lock, updated chord charts, and a compact stereo version of the classic Mutable Instruments Elements, adapted to run inside the module. There’s also an “eternal exciter” mode, which allows more control over the exciter, opening up new possibilities for ambient, experimental, and textural sound design. This alternative firmware
If you’re into Eurorack, modular synths, physical modelling synthesis, or sound design for electronic music, this firmware offers some subtle but very useful extensions to an already powerful synthesizer module.
For more info on this firmware update, and the download files, head on over here: https://github.com/lylepmills/eurorac...

Roland SH-1 Monosynth & RS-202 String Synth
video upload by DreamsOfWires
"Simple melodic ditty. just dusting off some oldies. SH-1 sequenced by a Korg SQ-1 in random mode. Initial drone sound is SH-1 (overdubbed), then following drone is from a sustained note on the RS-202 using the Vintage Synth Automatic Key Sustainer (electricians tape). Some verb in the mix, and delay on the SH-1.
I love vintage analogue synths, they often have a lot of character, but they also have their practical drawbacks, such as maintenance! My SH-1's sliders need some love, but the keyboard tracking's gone haywire (or should that be J-wire?) and the unfortunately named 'Bender' has transformed itself into a 'random source of uncertainty''... or a garbled note generator.
The RS-202 is working well though... so far, but changes in circumstances mean it's probably destined for the great online auction in the sky... or 'cloud'... whatever. It's a lovely-sounding thing, but like most vintage string synths, it's huge and doesn't do a lot. But, what it does do, it does well, and that chorus... Roland have a great lineage there.

angine de poitrine - sarniezz (modular synth cover)
video upload by Jonathan MacKenzie
"angine de machine?
all sequenced from logic, lots and lots of pitch bend automation... midi cv mostly coming from expert sleepers fh-2, including one converter that's just velocity information for the hihats and one that's just a monophonic gate with no pitch (for the dfam). the configurability of the fh-2 is astounding
drums:
squid salmple with mostly linn samples, swapped in a 909 ride and 808 cowbell. gates from beatstep pro with aforementioned hihat velocity from the fh-2
bass:
mb2s all by itself (including midi conversion)
riff that mostly follows bass:
plaits (waveshaper algo) through tiptop forbidden planet though obne screen violence (disabled at first)
minor 2nd thing:
qu-bit surface in one of the e piano modes
riff 1:
qu-bit chord v2, a fair bit of malarky going on to get the right flavour of duophony. everything's kinda duplicated so at first it's just the first two oscillators then it gets doubled
riff 2 (first new riff in 4/4):
surface again, i switch it to monophonic during the stabs
riff 3:
qu-bit aurora running a dumb little oscillator firmware i wrote a few weeks ago (my first and so far only foray into writing dsp). ran it through after later stairs (stereo filter) with different lfos modulating left and right to move it around a bit. midi from beastep pro (this was the last voice i added and had used up all the outputs on the fh-2 and expander. still had the other sequencer on the bsp so i guess i could've added one more voice)
klek de machine:
dfam
--
the arrangement is slightly shorter, where everything's live rather than looped i can only add layers as long as i can add voices so i focused on what seemed like the more important ones. and while i spent a long time trying to figure out all the parts i'm still not quite sure what the bass (and guitar part that mostly doubles the bass) in the last section is doing. pretty sure i'm pretty close though.

Dark Ambient Synthesizer Performance / Post Apocalyptic Vibes
video upload by Matzumi
Primarily featuring the Korg Z1 and Modal Electronics Argon and Cobalt synths. KORG MULTI/POLY comes in at the end.
"🌌 'The Last Echo of Dystopia' is not merely a performance; it is a sonic excavation of a world left in silence.
From the heart of the studio to the vast, decaying expanse of a forgotten wasteland, these frequencies bridge the gap between what was and what will never be again.
🎹 The Sound of Decay:
Through the electric veins of my synthesizers, we trace the contours of ruins and the whispers of the wind across the dunes. Deep, resonant pulses serve as the heartbeat of a dying era, while ethereal leads shimmer like heat haze on a scorched horizon....

video upload by atnr
"Ambient electronica built from simulated string tones and sustained synth textures.
Created with @somasynths LYRA-8, @Dirtywave M8 MODEL 02, @teenageengineering OP-1 field, and monotron DELAY.
On the LYRA-8, sustained tones are performed. The signal is processed with @KORG_INC monotron DELAY for filtering and delay, then through MICROCOSM with deep reverb.
On the M8 MODEL 02, simple harmonies are played and looped using Hypersynth. The sound is processed through @ChaseBlissAudio LOSSY with filtering and reverb.
On the OP-1 field, simulated string tones from the STRING synth are looped using the ENDLESS sequencer. Reverb is added with MOOD MKII, and the MICRO LOOPER is occasionally engaged to introduce variation."

"This is one of many ideas of this type that I have in progress and it's the first that I feel is ready to use. It has developed from last week's jam using MIDIPan and MIDISID.
I played the marimba part on a keyboard, all other parts are programmed manually.
I've started bat-watching but I haven't seen/heard my first of this year yet. I have enjoyed seeing both our moon and Jupiter in a clear sky though. The mysterioso nature of this piece seems to go well with this image of the moon.

"Extremely rare outside Japan - apparently Moridaira / Denki Sangyo, the firm SCI employed to make the Six-Trak, decided to make a few changes to that design and re-market it as the Pro-8 in Japan. Five octaves instead of four, eight voices instead of six, and split instead of multi-timbral. SCI then eventually made a couple more changes, and introduced it as the Split-8 in the rest of the world.
This, like all Pro-8s, started out as 100V Japanese power, but has been converted to 240V.
Lots of little points of interest: for instance, this one has a Denki maker label but also a Sequential Circuits one. They both call it Model 608, and SCI have a serial number:02033. 608 presumably because the design was changed from six to eight voices?
It's not a Prophet-5 for sure.... but if you like the Six-Trak sound you'll like this a lot. And it's rare as anything :) Plus it's probably the only synth in the world to have a scribble-strip matrix for entering your program sound names. The matrix looks unused.
Packing 18GBP."

TEISCO 110F DUOPHONIC SYNTH SN 4790
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this eBay listing

"Dating from 1980–1982, the Teisco 110F is a two-VCO synth with unique LFO features, a wonderful-sounding VCF that can go into self oscillation, a HPF and, unusually, an eight-band filter bank to sculpt the sound further. The LFO can be applied to either VCO, and a control allows you to shape its emphasis to occur near the front or back end of the waveform, or conventionally, in the middle.
The synth also features portamento that can be set to function with every note played or only when notes are played legato, giving you more expressive control over your performance.
In addition, the 110F has ring modulation, white and pink noise, a mixer, two EGs, and three rubber pads (to the left of the keyboard) that can be pressed to apply the vibrato or wow effect at will, to change the VCF cut-off frequency on the fly, and to change pitch up or down.
Perhaps the coolest feature are the numerous LED displays that show signal strength and the green arrows that light up to show signal flow.
And just to repeat, this synth is duophonic, allowing you to play two notes at a time .
CV and Gate connections are available on the front, along with an external input jack. Any instrument plugged in here replaces VCO 2 in the signal chain.
Everything works properly. As shown in the photos, all the LEDs light, as do the arrows. The LEDs light up based on signal strengh; I put everything at maximum to demonstrate that all the LED segments are working, but under most conditions they will not all be lit at the same time. All the knobs and switch caps are original. The three touch pads to the left of the keyboard function as they should. Some owners complain that theirs have become unusable with age. While the pads on this unit are a little hard to press down, they are responsive and work just fine.
The synth has some nicks on the end pieces, as shown in the photos. Overall, the synth presents very nicely and has a clean and bright front panel."

3 Filter Techniques I Keep Coming Back To (ft. WMD C4RBN)
video upload by Dots
"Unlock more from your filter than you thought possible.
In this video, I walk through three creative ways I use filters in my modular system — starting with a familiar technique and quickly moving into more experimental territory. Along the way, we explore ways to shape movement, add character, and completely transform a simple patch.
The final patch is where things get really interesting… and it might just change how you think about filters altogether.
Whether you're new to modular or deep into patching, these ideas will work on pretty much any filter in your rack.
I also show some of the additional features of the WMD C4RBN along the way... including some features which are great for live performance!

"This video shows how to calibrate the Orpho CV Note Looper for accurate pitch tracking across multiple octaves.
Learn how to enter Calibration Mode, adjust tuning and octave tracking, and match the module to an analog oscillator using the 1V/Oct standard. For this demonstration, a Behringer 921 VCO is used, along with a tuner for precise adjustment.
Calibration helps compensate for small variations in modular systems and ensures that all notes stay in tune over the full range.

"A potentially great way to get the wonderful Neuron sounds without a huge financial outlay. What you will need, though, is a vintage but high-spec (for the time) computer, ideally running Windows XP. Luckily very capable machines are available online for not much money - and if you dedicate it to the Nuke and other vintage music kit you don't have to worry about security. Untested at VEMIA but looking as new, with original disks, manual and box. One spare mushroom included (two missing)."

"Dave Smith Instruments Poly Evolver Keys. In very good condition, though a bit dusty and there are a couple of nicks on one of the side cheeks. There are also some dints in the paintwork beneath the keybed.
The serial number is 00883 which, if you trust Google, puts it as a very early production unit from around 2005. It's had the potentiometer upgrade. The original encoder boards are included. Everything works. The display is bright. Firmware versions: Main 2.0, Voice 2.1, DSP 3.0.

"This set is in very good condition and working 100%. It has just been professionally serviced and with some restoration. It has a custom foot-switch installed, so you will never need to clean the pedal contacts again. This modification (not visible) uses the original connector and has no ugly, irreversible holes drilled into the unit. It will be properly packaged when sold and will arrive in the condition as stated. Proof of the actual shipping cost will be provided if needed. Although this listing is marked as a US sale only, I will ship to most countries. If you're overseas and interested, please send me a message. Not sold as-is!
Cosmetically- Nothing is mint in my opinion and this one is no exception. Apart from chassis and pc boards being cleaned up, all of the black anodized screws have been replaced and the pedals have been cleaned/ polished.
Internally- Apart from any repairs, the unit has been disassembled and cleaned, all sliders, switches, jacks, and potentiometers have been cleaned, all electrolytic capacitors replaced including the power supply, the power supply rectifiers and voltage regluators have been replaced, some 4700 logic ICs replaced, some trimmers replaced, all screws and hardware tightened, has a new custom foot-switch assembly installed, and its been completely scaled & calibrated. I might be forgetting a few things so this may be updated."

KORG Berlin phase8: first jam (full)
video upload by Freaky Tweaky
"My KORG Berlin Phase 8 finally arrived today!
It's quite sensitive to vibrations (almost as sensitive as a turntable), so I'm wondering if it would be difficult to use it directly in a club live performance. However, even just considering it for music production, I feel it's a special synthesizer. I really love it.
There's a real magic to the harmonic and pitch changes when you place small objects on it just right…
Next, I'm going to try playing it with a drum machine."
MPC Sample: Deep hypnotic techno. First attempt at a live jam
video upload by SynthDad
"I bought an MPC Sample for fun jamming so after a few hours of playing with it this is my first attempt at a deep hypnotic techno jam. Little rough around the edges in places, but hey that's live music for you!
Thinking about how I might pair it with a small portable modular setup. It's lacking some key features (step sequencer being one of them) but if I combine it with my Oxi One that's not an issue."

Hexdrums cranked, compressed & gated (no talk)
video upload by Richard DeHove
"Compressor hiss? Meh, the world's full of noise and hiss. Levels pushed, why not? Some limiting on the output - sure. We're just having fun here, not trying to educate anyone on noise levels or production techniques. And as usual this video has completely mutated from its original form. The intention was to show the new Nightverb gated reverb option and blather on about drum machines. Then I started playing with Hexdrums' compressor. So instead of my long diatribe on drum machine programming I chopped that all out and just kept the actual drums.
Compressor's aren't my thing. Yet with the Hexdrum compressor I had fun. Pushed past noon it will start giving an audible hissy noise floor but if you're cranking lots of other things that that just disappears :D If I was making an album track I'd probably try to get rid of it but for now every noise is welcome.
On the routing: Voice 1 (bass drum 1) and Voice 3 (snare) are on separate outs and are completely dry - although I was severely temped to do some processing on them. All the other voices go to the Hexdrums stereo out, then to the Nightverb on the gated reverb option; then to the Echolocator. With either effect unit turned to 100% wet it's up to the dry voices 1 & 3 to keep things together.
At times I turn up the release on Voice 2 (bass drum 2) and that's what upsets the compressor and holds it open so long that the gated reverb doesn't get a turn.
The main reason I like this setup is that you can get variations on a single drum pattern without having to program any new drum patterns :)
The main out from the DAW has some mild limiting to catch stray spikes but otherwise this is an unedited one-pass twiddlefest.
Many thanks to my kind patrons who keep this channel ad-free

MultiWAVE MIDI | MakeNoise New Universal Synthesizer System | Episode 06
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"Midi on the MulitWAVE is a big deal. It seems it just adds polyphony from your DAW or midi host, but how many keyboards do you know where you can actively control eight separate voices and put each voice in its own VCA, with its own modulation and FX? I know only one. And then you can still go hybrid and plug all kinds of CV in it.
It's also a big deal because you can make moving soundscapes which are either super hard or totally impossible with regular hardware keys. Sure you can use multiple instances of VST's in the daw, but that doesn't count because a PC is not a fair compare.
I am still waiting for my MIDI expander strip to arrive, so I 'broke the rules' by using a direct USB connection with Ground Control. MakeNoise does not support this due to all classic 'interference' problems with USB loops between controllers, hosts and output devices. The 'strip' mitigates those problems, and it offers a front panel input instead of running USB cables through places where they can't go. But this video was simply to short to wait for the strip to arrive. Next week the new GTE will also be here, so I'll stitch it up properly soon and try an MPE controller."

Bad Gear - The OG
video upload by AudioPilz
"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. By now it must have dawned on even the most terminally online late GenX/early millennial person that calling something The OG is cringe.
Today, however, we are going to talk about Novation Bass Station. This 1993 mono synth and predecessor to the incredibly popular Bass Station 2 is more than deserving of the title because A - it was one of the most important heralds of the 90s analog revival and B - it even got a little shoutout by The Wu Tang. Sequential Circuits Six-Trak song Pure VCO Analog 27.3.2026.
video upload by Veli-Matti Rautio
"Got new Eprom V14 to Six-Trak and changed it. Next was testing the synth's working and here is that test session. Arp & latch sound nr. 14, lead & bass sound 01. No additional effects used, only Six-Trak's pure single VCO analog sound. Sony FDR-AX43A video kamera. Composed, played live, arranged and improvised by me in Studio Tupos 27.3.2026. Nr. 1544.
Sony FDR-AX43A kuvaajana."

Very early Synthi A -1971! s/n 4118
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this Vemia listing
Click the auction link on top when you get there for additional listings.
Pic of the inside below.
"This auction is for an original 1971 Mk1 EMS Synthi A synthesiser, serial number 4118, in its Spartanite case. The case has a few marks and scratches as befitting a 55 year old instrument, but no chips or breaks. The latches, although showing some corrosion, work perfectly.
The Synthi front panel is one of the cleanest we’ve seen, being almost immaculate with virtually no panel marks and, unusually, no writing or marking absent or worn from the screen printing. In addition this example comes with the early chrome mirror finish knobs.
The internals are extremely clean and original with no modifications (see photo#4 now under the wrong thumbnail) and the unit has the genuine GE PA234 audio amplifier devices for the outputs and reverb.
The unit has been fully tested by one of the three or four people in the world who can call themselves EMS experts. It has been aligned and found to be working perfectly, and consequently given the original condition of the unit, no capacitors have been replaced. The original ones are working fine and show no signs of leakage or decay. However while the existing pots are electrically good with no scratchiness, some are a mechanically stiffer than current production models and the buyer might wish to have these replaced. This can be done at additional cost either here in the UK by EMS experts Lucid or by the buyer’s own engineer.
The Synthi comes with a full set of 20 patch pins and a new UK 240VAC mains lead (not shown). (Observant viewers may notice the absence of the usual Synthi A plastic name plate which usually adorns the outer case. This isn’t missing, but was simply never fitted as there are no holes for it, perhaps because of the early serial number. In addition the rear case is attached by four factory fitted screws and bushings, rather than the more usual arrangement of three)."

Three Phutney EMS clone PCBs, Tuned
Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Click the auction link on top when you get there for additional listings.
"Set of Three Phutney PCB Cards – EMS VCS3 / Synthi A Clone A set of three fully built Phutney PCB cards for the EMS VCS3 / Synthi A. These are the highly regarded clone boards designed by Derek Revell, widely considered among the most accurate reproductions available for anyone wishing to recreate one of these classic synthesizers, or to replace cards in an original EMS instrument.
The boards were professionally assembled by an experienced audio engineer, using new old stock germanium and silicon transistors to get as close as possible to the character of the original EMS circuitry.
They have been extensively tested and calibrated in my 1975 EMS Synthi AKS. My original intention was to use them to build a VCS3 “Cloney”-style synth, but that project never materialised.
During testing, resistor values were carefully adjusted until the cards performed and sounded indistinguishable from the original EMS circuit boards.
The sale also includes: • Header and PCB solder-in edge connectors to simplify wiring during a build • A set of blue edge connectors with solder tags if you prefer the more traditional “old-school” wiring approach
All three boards are fully populated, tested, and confirmed working. As mentioned, they were bench-tested and run inside a working EMS Synthi AKS, allowing direct comparison with original EMS cards during calibration.
If you are planning to build a vintage EMS-style synthesizer, this is an excellent starting point, as the boards are already assembled, tested, and carefully tuned to match the performance and sound of a 1975 Synthi A / VCS3."

The case was made by Low-Gain Electronics / MonoRocket, and has not been in production for a long time. This one was bought new in 2016 by a well-known modular synth maker but not used until after it Ithe case) was sold on VEMIA in 2020 (for over 400GBP plus shipping).
The TTSH is rev 2.4. It has been thoroughly checked for this auction, and is in full working order with a couple of quirks (similar to the original 2600s): some VCO and clock bleed, only noticeable on close listening - and which the designers say many users never notice. Packing 18GBP."

Elektron Machinedrum
video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto
"Machinedrum Sample Pack
https://akihikomatsumoto.sellfy.store...
The Elektron Machinedrum, first introduced in the early 2000s, was not simply a drum machine. It was a digital architecture built to generate percussion with surgical precision and metallic sharpness. Its synthesis models produced results that went beyond drum programming, moving into the territory of sound design. Even today, no software plugin has managed to fully replicate its distinctive texture.
This collection captures that uniqueness. Every sample was recorded directly from the Machinedrum itself. No external processing, no layering. What you hear is the circuitry of early Elektron design, distilled into one-shots that highlight the instrument’s raw identity."
Roland TR-1000 "Melodic Mode"
video upload by Maffez Synthmods
"So the idea is to fake a chromatic mode by making a sound and copying it across all instruments, then tuning these chromatically. Kinda roundabout workflow and not quite as easy as yours truly in front of an ice cream vendor, but this way the TR1000 can do polyphonic VA, FM, PCM, and even Cowbell Synth :) trwo in some morphing slider action and you get realtime sound control too!"

"RMPx is a hybrid physical modelling and ensemble synthesizer.
The Phys-mod section especially enjoys being played with a touch sensitive keyboard and can conjure up very accoustic sounding patches which respond to your playing style beautifully."

Novation Peak Synthesizer some sounds from James Dyson's soundset and sound design fun
video upload by James Dyson
"Novation Peak Synthesizer some sounds from my soundset and sound design fun 128 Full Bank of Custom Presets each with careful use of the Animate Buttons the sound design has been done in a meaningful way to mazimise the Animate options. These range from careful addtional FX to Moprhing into a another sound.. example a Keys preset pressing one of the Animate buttons will give you a pad etc etc..
Deep Programming and great care and attention to detail throughout the Soundset, Presets are very Diverse hence the soundset name 'Diversity' and cover many musical styles from Cyberpunk/Synthwave to Space/Ambient to Classical and Retro emulations of the great synths of past years.
The Soundset uses Novation Peaks latest Firmware and features assiocated with the update FX,Stereo Panning etc etc. I should add I have not encountered any problems with the latest Firmware in Hours upon hours of creating this Bank."

Pluto's Moons (Album) by The Pedalboard Orchestra
Also see The Pedalboard Orchestra's demos of Modern Sounds Pluto Semimodular Synthesizer
"This album presents ten extended ambient soundscapes (approx. 150 minutes total), composed and recorded using the Modern Sounds Pluto semimodular synthesizer as the sole sound source. Pluto’s architecture—featuring five primary modulation engines named after Pluto’s moons (Charon, Styx, Nix, Kerberos and Hydra)—served as both a structural and conceptual framework during production.
Each track explores different interactions between these modulators, ranging from FM-based timbral shifts to complex CV-driven rhythmic deviations and slow-evolving modulation cycles.
Across the sessions, the wider effects chain underwent several iterations, incorporating various pedals for filtering, spatial processing, and granular-style textural shaping. However, two components remained consistent throughout:
Modern Sounds Pluto (core synthesis + modulation)
Eventide Space (primary reverb stage, used for long-tail ambient diffusion, shimmer variants, and modulated plate algorithms)
All material was captured as real-time, single-track, one-take recordings, with no overdubs or post-layering. Performance control relied heavily on Pluto’s internal modulation matrix, manual parameter riding, and dynamic interaction between the... more

Birds by Aylesim -- Generative Melody Sequencer for Ableton Live (MaxforLive Demo)
video upload by Isotonik Studios
"Birds by Aylesim is a MaxforLive instrument that generates and evolves 16-step melodic sequences in real time -- no note programming required.
Get Birds here: https://isotonikstudios.com/product/b...
In this demo we walk through everything Birds offers: four generative styles (Stormo, Ostinato, Cantabile, and Puntillista), eight pitch mutation algorithms, and independent gate evolution controls that keep both the melody and the rhythm moving as the sequence plays.
The core idea is straightforward. Generate a sequence, set your Difference Limit, and Birds will drift away from that original reference and back toward it -- creating variation that stays musical. The bird-on-wire interface shows you exactly which notes are original, which have evolved, and which are inactive, so you always know where the sequence stands.
Whether you're building evolving loop beds, generating melodic material for a live set, or just breaking out of patterns you've played a hundred times, Birds gives you a sequence that works with you rather than sitting still.
Birds reads Ableton Live's scale and root key directly. Use it diatonic for in-key lines or switch scale mode off for chromatic and atonal results. Drive it from Ableton's transport or use MIDI Trigger mode to sync it to external hardware."

Static sequences repeat. Birds evolves. This MaxforLive instrument generates 16-step melodic sequences and mutates them in real time -- drifting away from the original idea and back again, creating melodies that breathe, shift, and surprise without losing their thread.
Inside you'll find:
Four generative styles -- Stormo, Ostinato, Cantabile, and Puntillista -- each producing distinct melodic character
Eight pitch evolution algorithms including Chromatic, Gravity, Smooth, Drift, Interval, and Rotate
Difference Limit control to set how far the sequence drifts from the original reference
Independent gate evolution with Shuffle, Density, and Chaos controls for rhythmic mutation
Generation tab with full control over density, note range, velocity range, and motif length
