Published on Oct 31, 2017 Robotopsy Robotopsy

"The Synthi Biscuit is a multi-fonction 16hp packaged module for the Eurorack system.
It offers 16 different algorythms in 3 similar sub-modules. A sub-module consists of 2
variable parameters, a gate input, an analog output, a display and a selection
button."

A new make on the site featured on Halloween!

via ELECTRIC TONE

"Designed to give a lot of fonctionalities into a small package(16HP). The Synthi Biscuit incorporates the usual needed fonctions (LFO, sample and hold, random noise, sequencer ect...) and more. It offers 10 different algorythms into 3 sub-units to sauce up your travel into the modular world. A sub-module consists of 2 parameters, a gate input, an analog output, a display and a selection button.

No magic trick, no special button combo. To access the different fonctions, click the algo button to browse through the algorythms. The parameters knobs allow changes in the fonctions you're using, they have different roles depending on the mode (speed lfo, gate time, random factor ect...).

synthi-biscuit responds to all Eurorack criterias on power supply(12V/0V/-12V), power connector (2X8), and signal levels."

"Power DX7 Halloween Special - Halloween Night At The Adelaide Zoo, located in South Australia, Australia

As I went to a family fun event at the Adelaide Zoo, I created DX7 Halloween music for the Halloween Night.

This video was filmed using a brand new Sony 4K pro video camera. Yes, Power DX7 now goes to 4K! I used Final Cut Pro for 4K video editing.

The Adelaide Zoo has a lot of both Australian animals and animals from around the world. They do a lot of conservation work as well.

Introducing iOptigan! An Optigan for your iPad / iPhone In Collaboration with Stefan Stenzel of Waldorf

Published on Oct 31, 2017 optigandotcom

"In collaboration with Stefan Stenzel of Waldorf, we’re proud to announce iOptigan! It’s an Optigan on your iPad or iPhone, complete with all 40 original discs (25 included with app purchase, an additional 15 via in-app purchase) and all the scratchy lo-fi character and playability quirks of the original. What we didn’t include is all the headaches that tend to go along with the flaky old hardware!

As shown in the video above, you can setup iOptigan with a MIDI keyboard to approximate the playing experience of a real Optigan (chord buttons on the iPad, keys on the keyboard), but there are also additional ways to control iOptigan via MIDI as well as on screen. iOptigan faithfully emulates the unique playback characteristics of the Optigan, ie the “constant loop” of both the chord section and the keyboard. You also get tempo, reverb and balance controls that also behave as the original hardware."

iTunes: iOptigan - Stefan Stenzel

"This is the Optigan for iOS.

The Optigan, short for Optical Organ, was a chord organ from the early 1970’s. It is remembered today for its unique system of sound reproduction using optical discs. These LP-sized film discs were optically encoded with 57 concentric tracks, which contained loops of musical combos playing chord patterns in different styles. Each disc contained a specific style of music (Bossa Nova, Big Band etc) which the user could control by pressing the chord buttons. Changing the discs was as simple as putting a new record on your turntable. Think of it as the 1971 version of GarageBand.

Despite this novel technology, the scratchy sound of the Optigan left a lot to be desired.

The iOptigan we present here truthfully recreates that lo-fi sound.

25 of the original 40 discs are included, the remaining 15 can be purchased individually or all together in the Complete Pak.

Specifications and Features:
• Disc loading rigth-side-up or upside-down
• Spring Reverb (virtual)
• Optical Metronome
• Audio Demo for each Disc
• MIDI in/out
• MIDI chord detection
• MIDI File Import
• Sequencer with Record and Playback
• Sharing for songs as Audio and MIDI File
• iTunes File Sharing
• Inter-App Audio
• Smart background audio
• Help overlay
• Headphone optimised stereo (optional)
• Radio Mode for Chord Buttons or Keyboard
• Comfortable speed control in semitones or BPM"

"It’s been a long time since I wanted again a MIDI-to-CV converter. Got it today, added to it bananas and made an impro on the Serge Paperface.
One take. Direct stereo outs and then reverb added in Logic.

The patch can be seen here:

The played notes we hear come from 2 oscillators: the NTO (variable output) goes to the Variable Bandwidth Filter (VCF2), the PCO (sine output) goes to the Wave Multipliers.

VCF2 and Wave Multipliers give this string touch to the sound.

Outputs on the MIDI-to-CV interface:
GATE goes to ADSR - ADSR OUT goes into VCAs.
CV goes to 1V/oct input on both oscillators.
Pitch Bend goes to VC F on both oscillators.
Velocity goes to VC F on Variable Bandwidth VCF.

I love these moments, when the instrument is simultaneously translating in sound my feelings and what is happening in my mind. Like remembering an early existence…"

The SQ-1 sequences the STO for the melody and triggers the Maths, that plays the rhythm sounds. The STO goes into the Clouds. I am playing via the pyramid the AJH MiniMod. The only external FX is the reverb and delay for the maths sounds. I hope you'll like it. Please tell me how you like it. Thanks."

Jordan's new NOISE soundpack Wizardly Wayz is available to download in the Soundpack Store now, alongside a Floatation, a new collection of ambient sounds.

Jordan Rudess has amazed audiences as the synth-player for prog rock titans Dream Theater — and now he’s sharing his signature soundpack Wizardly Wayz, so everyone can capture a piece of the magic.

Featuring overdriven synths like Evil Pad, Wizardly Wayz packs a powerful hard-rock punch. But it also has enchanting orchestral effects, such as the strings of Mythic Key Layer and the flute-like Inventing Ether — perfect for adding dramatic flair to your creations.

Packed full of expansive synths that allow you to craft an intricate tapestry of sound, Floatation lets you produce lush atmospheres with warm, layered textures like Cassiopeia Ensemble. Or add spectral moodiness to your music using Darkvista.

OBERHEIM MATRIX 12 CLASSIC, LEGENDARY MASSIVE ANALOG BEAST!

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"You know what this is... This is the most advanced, most elegant sounding Oberheim of them all.. The Matrix 12. Essentially TWO Xpanders with a fantastic keybed and such an amazing piece of eye candy. She purrs... she growls and so much more. Once you play it, you'll instantly recognize all those instant classic 80s sounds. Not many synth freaks have one.. most have never played one. This synth is not for the faint of heart. It delivers in every way.

This is the better Made in USA version, not the overseas inferior version. It was fully overhauled by a veteran analog synth tech. Recapped, tuned, new bushings, new battery, calibrated and tested over and over again to ensure years of usage to come. It sounds amazing, and it works as it should.. NO operational errors here. Plus as you can see from the pics.. it looks fantastic as well.

NOTE>>> This has the 12 output panel installed on the right side. It was installed at Oberheim way back in the day but the original owner opted to not have internal circuits installed for the 12 outs.. not sure why. You still obviously get the Left, Right and Mono outs working and sounding GREAT!.."

DIY Synth Jam #1 - SQK01 Arduino FM synth and Yamaha PSS-570

Published on Oct 31, 2017 DrummingEvil

"I was hacking together a little setup next to my desk, to see if something like it would be comfortable for synth recordings. Figured I might as well record a little improvisation :D

I used my SQK-01 prototype FM synthesizer and the Yamaha PSS-570, each routed through a Digitech RP80 FX pedal. I wanted to solely use my own creations, however the green synth (Dradique) you see isn't finished yet and both of my synths don't have any sequencing or rhythm sections yet. So I opted for the Yamaha to lay down the basic beat and sequencing."

Published on Oct 31, 2017 Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the first song with the Red Sound Darkstar XP2. It's a table-top 8-voice polyphonic, 5-part multitimbral virtual analog synthesizer.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Darkstar XP2 - Sony DPS-V55M - DigiTech Obscura- DigiTech Polara. The used fx varied depending on the recorded track.

The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.

To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with just a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

Analog Four MKII - The New Sound [JAM]

Published on Oct 31, 2017 cuckoomusic

"Elektron has refined the signal chain in the new Analog Four MKII to achieve a more mature sound, and a also brand new overdrive. This might seem like a small adjustment at first, but after working with it for a while I feel like it is much more than that. The sonic palette has broadened, all of the sounds have a more solid presence. Especially in the low end. Even the sounds that sound "exactly the same" as on the MKI do in fact benefit from the refined signal chain. I like what I hear.

Here's a jam with several of the sounds used actually not really possible to fully reproduce on the MKI."

The idea is to jam the peak on the push, and then later let the digitakt control it, but i've yet to reconnect everything with the midi thru box i recently got. Maybe for the next one ! Just wanted to get this out the door, enjoy !"

[Note: Todd has an upcoming performance coming up on Monday, November 13 at the Conservatory of Music at UOP, Stockton, California. That event will feature electronic instruments designed and built by Rob Hordijk. If you are in the area, you do not want to miss it.]

The above is the full performance by Todd Barton on the BEMI Buchla Music Easel at Wayward Music, announced here. Note the performance was in quad (four channels of spatial audio around the room), however, I was only able to capture it on my iPhone 6s, so unfortunately the quality is limited here. This video is meant more for historical purposes, but do enjoy it. It was an amazing performance.

You can find Todd Barton's website at http://toddbarton.com.

The following bio is from the Wayward Music event page http://www.waywardmusic.org/event/tod...

"Todd Barton is a composer, sound designer, multimedia performer, and analog synthesist specializing in Buchla, Serge and Hordijk modular systems. After four decades of exploration Barton is still delving deeply into the ever-expanding frontiers of musical expression: from his DNA derived Genome Music to his innovative scores for plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; from performances of Zen shakuhachi meditation music to avant-garde music for electronic synthesizers and computers; from performing with luminaries of jazz and poetry to lecturing on music and composition from the Middle Ages to the 21st Century. He gives Skype lessons and consultations in analog synthesis worldwide and is currently a trainer for MacProVideo.com. Todd is fascinated and obsessed with exploring sound and its infinite manifestations. This performance will be a live improvisation which “Follows the Sound” of a Buchla Music Easel.

Quick demo of 2x PreenFM & 1x Ambika with 6 SMR4 voice cards. HQ Sound

Published on Oct 30, 2017 Todd Murray

"This is a nothing planned, adhoc session just to demonstrate the sound quality of these two DIY synth projects. Both synths are open source code, and open hardware. You can still obtain prebuilt PreenFMs or you can DIY and build the entire synth from scratch.

The Ambika is not longer made by Mutable Instruments. It too is Open source and open hardware, and there are some sources who still build them or you can DIY

In both cases you can build these synths yourself by downloading all of the CAD files for the circuit boards and case, sourcing their build, then source the components and assemble the circuits.... then download the software and install it.

If you want to build these yourself, and have experience you should have little issues as both are fairly straight forward and the build doc quite clear. The PreenFM may be a particular challenge if you choose to DIY the MCU board. Soldering a STM32F405 takes practice and a steady hand. In both cases you will also need to upload the firmware to the processors.

You can learn more about the Ambika

and the PreenFM here: http://ixox.fr/preenfm2/"

"We don’t have a whole lot of information at present, but KORG Gadget is coming to Switch. It’s being advertised at the M3 event in Japan this weekend. Material at the show reveals the Switch title, along with a Spring 2018 launch window."

This isn't too much of a surprise considering KORG has ported their other synths apps to the Nintendo DS line of gaming devices. Still cool to see though.
