"this is a wonderful synth, extremely deep and versatile with a unique sound. The CEM 3389 chips and fast envelopes allow for great sounding subtractive synthesis (drums!), while use of the included wavetables can produce anything from chimes, bells and evolving pads to harsh clangorous digital noise. Using a software editor really opens things up - you can create your own wavetables algorithmically, with additive synthesis, or by deriving them from text! The modulation matrix is extensive, and making use of all 8 multitimbral voices can give really full sounding performances in real time. Just a great, great synthesizer..."

OTO Biscuit Bit Crusher Synthesizer/DJ Effects Filter Module SN 0134

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The OTO Biscuit is a bit crusher and digital/analog effects processing unit. Using true 8 bit converters, digital processing and analog resonant filters, the Biscuit opens up a wide range of sounds from harsh distortion, digital and aliasing artifacts to warm and fat 8 bit sounds. The BISCUIT is very useful to add depth and texture to any kind of electronic sound. It works best with synthesizers (digital or analog), bassline, drum machines, loops, samplers or computers, but you can use it with any other source. BISCUIT is basically an enhanced bit depth and sample-rate reducer, know as "bitcrusher", followed by an analog filter and a simple mixing section (dry/wet). It also offers other features like removing or inverting each of the 8 bits, changing the sample rate from 250Hz to 30kHz, or adding one of the four effects (wave shaper, delay, pitch shifter and step filter). BISCUIT is MIDI compatible. You can save the complete BISCUIT settings (pots and switches) in 16 presets. A SysEx dump function lets you save and recall as many presets as you like on your computer.

This is a powerful tool for DJ's, synth/keyboard players and effects aficionados who are looking for something unique and versatile. I was turned onto it by Brian LeBarton, who plays with Beck... he had it in his live rig. This unit has only been used in studio... never out live. It has some amazing sounds within it and you can create your own Biscuited magic. It's deep. You got to put your head into it. The filters are radical and sound fantastic.

FEATURES: Stereo inputs and outputs, Input gain from infinity to 15 dB with diode clipping, Real 8-Bit Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog converters, True analog multimode filter with resonance control, variable sample clock from 250 Hz to 30kHz, Unique capability of muting and inverting each of the 8-bits, FX section: wave shaper, delay, pitch shifter and step filter, separate level control of dry and 8-bit signals, 16 presets, MIDI compatible, true relay bypass, rugged metallic Neutrik connectors.

The Effects Categories are as follows:

Biscuiting: This is an 8-bit processing unit that modifies the 8 bit components with the 8 different selectors, with bits selected, inverted, or muted - creating strong distortions with an intense digital character.

The Biscuit also offers the following effects:

Waveshaper: The wave shaper is a device that modifies the signal waveform using digital processing. Biscuit offers you 8 types of wave shaping. These treatments can create situations (type 1 to 5) very different from Biscuiting (cf chap 2) or even generate a synthesizer waveform (6 to 8). Waveshape types: Rectifying, Alternate rectifiying, Bat Fuzz, Biscuit, Swap. The 6, 7, and 8 waveshapers are little synthesizers - Sawtooth, Sawtooth and Square, that generate a waveform that tracks input signal frequency.

Pitch Shifter: An Old School 8-bit transposition is applied to the signal. Only the left input is used, the pitch sifter output is sent on both left and right outputs and can be mixed with the direct signal. The options are: 2 Octaves down, 1 Octave down, 1 Fifth down, Detune, 1 Minor Third up, 1 Major Third up, 1 Fifth up, 1 Octave up.

Delay: This is an 8-bit mono delay. Only the left input is used. The delay output is sent on both left and right outputs and can be mixed with the direct stereo signal, via the DRESSED and NAKED pots. Has Tap Tempo and there are six subdivisions available: quarter note, dotted quarter, eighth, dotted eighth, sixteenth, dotted sixteenth.

Step Filter: The Step Filter allows you to memorize 8 positions (steps) of the FREQ pot and to read these different staps one after the other. Many settings of Play Mode, Sped and Number of steps are available. The Step Filter speed depends on Tap Tempo or Midi Beat Clock. It comes with 16 factory presets (Love 8, Old Computer, Bits Bending, Dark Side, Noise Adder, Step Fazor, Rusty Jam, Delay DELay delay, Broken Delay, Continental, Nautilus, Midline, Detune, Becquerel, Dirty Lead, Digital Duck) and you can save or replace these presets with your own..."

The CV signals are being outputted to the modular synth via an Expert Sleepers ES-3 module."

Via the creator, Icaro Ferre, on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"Hey guys, I've just release a new collection of MaxforLive devices that can be used to control analog / modular synths in many different ways, it's called Spektro CV Devices. They work similarly to Motu's Volta and Expert Sleepers' Silent Way plugins but offer different functionalities.

The collection comes with 5 devices: CV Toolkit Pro, Voltage Pads, Biased Switcher, CV Crossfader and CV Splitter. Check out the link for full description of each of the devices.
The Voltage Pads (device inspired by MakeNoise's Pressure Points module) also comes with Lemur templates that you can use to control the device via OSC (no need to MIDI map anything).

Available for U$15,00 at http://spektroaudio.com/cvdevices

ES-3 / ES-4 owners should definitely give this a try. I believe you'll have a lot of fun with these devices!"

"This was my first synthesiser. It seems now to have all but disappeared from history, so I thought I'd put together some info on it while it still works.

Clef Electronic Music produced various music technology products back in the early 1980s, including the B30 synthesiser and a drum machine.

Another of their products was the Clef CMS, a synthesiser designed for use with the BBC Micro. It was available in two versions, one smartly finished and one in a more basic DIY form."

Steve Reich - Piano Phase (played on two Groovesizers)

Published on Oct 29, 2013

http://groovesizer.com

"Steve Reich's Piano Phase as played on two Groovesizers.

Why? Because I was introduced to the piece in music class in a high school in Germany as an exchange student in 1991 and had heard nothing like it before. Over the years as I've been making with computers, the piece has kept bugging me for the fact that it's not as easy to reproduce with digital music machines as you would assume. Sequencers and synths seem to want to be either perfectly in sync, or not at all with none of the middle ground required to perform Piano Phase. Since I started working on this project, it's been a personal goal to find a way to enable phasing in general, and specifically a performance of Piano Phase, on the Groovesizers. I think I can finally move on!

For the techincally inclined, the Groovesizers are running Alpha firmware, v102. The (naked) Groovesizer on the right is slaved to the one on the left via MIDI sync. The slaved Groovesizer expects 6 MIDI clock pulses before moving to the next 16th note (assuming 24ppq). By pressing shift-R and F6, the slave is nudged ahead of the master by adding an extra pulse (it can also be nudged in the opposite direction by subtracting a pulse with shift-R and F5). After 6 nudges, the patterns align again with the slave now a 16th note ahead of the master."

Technosaurus Microcon Analog Mini Mono Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Microcon is a CV/GATE mini analog monophonic synthesizer module
emulating the simple design and sound of classic Roland TB-303 and SH-101 synths.
They are made by Technosaurus, a Swiss company best known for their high-end Selector modular synths.
It is handmade using the same discrete circuits found in its bigger brothers.

The Microcon is a totally analog table-top synth module that's slightly smaller than the original TB-303. It has one main oscillator capable of either sawtooth or square waveforms,
just like the TB-303. The addition of a sub-oscillator is more like SH-101, which can help beef up your bass sounds.
The analog lowpass filter is switchable as either 2-pole (12dB/oct) or 4-pole (24dB/oct), which is better than the TB-303 or SH-101 offered.
The LFO can modulate the filter cutoff frequency with either triangle or square wave and the VCO can be modulated by square or triangle waves.
Simple attack and decay envelope controls and a Glide effect round out this fairly simple to use and highly affordable 303 clone.
it also possible to use filter section with external sounds into it.

The Microcon only uses CV and Gate for being controlled externally
no MIDI IN/OUT

ATTENTION TO USE:

Microcon has a lot of function into a small package,
so each jack has dual functions.

you need attention to select connecting cables especially for GATE input
manual says,The units should be used with stereo 1/8" cables unless you specifically want to disable the oscillator
but this doesn't work with all gear combinations.

if you use mono 1/8" cables to GATE input, insert the gate plug only halfway to get the unit to sound
or use insertion cable(1/8" stereo to dual 1/4" mono cable)

Here's a rundown of the connections:
CV Tip - pitch control voltage
CV Ring - filter control voltage
Gate Tip - gate
Gate Ring - short to ground to mute oscillator (this is what happens when you use a mono 1/8" cable)
Out Tip - audio output
Out Ring - filter input"

Moments Lost - Music & Art inspired by Blade Runner on Indiegogo

Published on Oct 29, 2013 AnalogSweden·59 videos

Update: Indiegogo link fixed: www.indiegogo.com/projects/moments-lost

"Preorder / support on www.indiegogo.com/projects/momentslost

It started six months with our first Blade Runner tribute track, and after the great response it spawned the idea to make a whole album. We're approaching the creation of the music with a rig similar to Vangelis' original setup, of course including the Yamaha CS80, Roland VP-330 strings and Rhodes. On this track we also used the Prophet 5, Jupiter 4 and Analogue Solutions Vostok mk1. The working methods are also inspired by Vangelis, using a live and direct approach to capture the energy and feel of the original recordings where everything is played by hand. No midi is or will be used, only analog sequencers will be used.

Together with a professional writer we're creating new small stories, called moments, that will be the themes for the music, and to please the eyes we're working with illustrators Kilian Eng and HR-FM for the creation of the album art. dwdesign.tumblr.com/ www.hr-fm.com/

We want to release cd, colored vinyl and an art booklet with illustrations for every track and documentation on the creation.
