MOOGFEST 2017 UNVEILS FULL SCHEDULE OF 100 WORKSHOPS & MASTERCLASSES

via Moogfest

"- Moogfest attendees engage in an ecosystem of ideas, experiments, and specialized skills

Durham, North Carolina (April 5, 2017) – Today Moogfest unveils the full schedule for the expansive four-day festival. Exploring the future of technology, art, and music, the festival includes more than 300 musical performances, daytime workshops, conversations, masterclasses, film screenings, live scores, durational sound installations, and interactive art experiences.

The full schedule can be found online at http://moogfest2017.sched.com

*Please note, the full schedule can be viewed on Sched; however, registration and adding sessions to your personal schedule won't be available until sign-up opens Friday, April 7, at 12:00 noon ET for Engineer ticket holders; Tuesday, April 11, at 12:00 noon ET for VIP ticket holders; and Tuesday, April 18, at 12:00 noon ET for all ticket holders.

Moogfest celebrates the legacy of Bob Moog, a visionary engineer who pioneered the analog synthesizer and other technology tools used by artists like Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Kraftwerk. This year’s program will feature over 260 innovators in music, art, and technology -- from Flying Lotus, Animal Collective, Suzanne Ciani, Gotye and Princess Nokia to Dr. Kate Shaw, an experimental particle physicist working on the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, and Joe Davis, a pioneer in creating art with genes and bacteria at MIT Media Lab. Moogfest takes place in Durham, North Carolina, a fast-growing capital of technology, culture and entrepreneurship.

Happening Thursday, May 18 - Sunday, May 21, with hundreds of artists, speakers, and sessions across downtown Durham, Moogfest contains a vast galaxy of discovery. Workshops are an essential part of the Moogfest program, as the platform prioritizes intimate spaces for collaboration and creativity. In these open learning environments, participants interact with technology tools that allow humans to creatively express themselves in new ways, so that we can design the future we want to see and hear.

4. Make Noise Morphagene pt. 4: Clock Input, CV/EOSG Outputs
5. Morphagene Science: Gain Staging and Input Leveling
6. Make Noise Morphagene pt. 5: Time Lag Accumulation

"All sounds in this video are the direct output of the Morphagene.

The Morphagene is a next generation tape and microsound music module that uses Reels, Splices and Genes to create new sounds from those that already exist. Search between the notes to find the unfound sounds.

A few of the Morphagene's most basic uses: Splice recorded audio and jumble it using ORGANIZE. Manipulate playback speed and direction with Vari-Speed. Granularize with Gene-Size and Slide. Layer or Stagger Genes using MORPH. Undertake iterative music processes by recording manipulations and overdubs into new Splices, like having two machines (one for Playback and modulations, one for Record). Process sound in real time using Time Lag Accumulation. Utilize envelope following CV OUT and EOSG Trigger to engage Morphagene in conversation with the rest of your modular system. Stretch and squash sound with Clock input."

Softube launches Doepfer A-101-2 Vactrol LPG low pass gate module for Modular

"LINKÖPING, SWEDEN: high-end plug-in specialist Softube is proud to launch Doepfer A-101-2 Vactrol LPG — a plug- in version of Doepfer’s modernized take on the Buchla LPG (Low Pass Gate) concept, complete with clever and creative additions — as a new module for its perennially popular Modular software synth as of April 5...

Ever since its invention by Don Buchla, the LPG has been heralded for an ability to add a lifelike and organic response and textures to modular synth patches. With its A-101-2 Vactrol LPG, Eurorack instigator Doepfer took the concept a step further, adding a resonance filter for further sonic treatment. Today, thanks to Softube’s plug-in version for Modular, the module is available for any music creator that prefers working in the software realm.

As implied by name, Doepfer’s hardware LPG modules are based on vactrols — just like opto-compressors. The response time of these can vary wildly, which is all part of the LPG charm. Softube’s plug-in version of Doepfer’s design adds a Vact. switch, which was not part of the original hardware. This lets users switch between fast, medium, or slow (F/M/S) response times to cover the variation between individual analog units.

Doepfer’s A-101-2 Vactrol LPG hardware has been a longtime staple in the Eurorack world; now it’s a welcome addition to Softube’s Modular, the first truly expandable software modular system that looks, works, and sounds exactly like its hardware counterparts.

Doepfer A-101-2 Vactrol LPG is available now from Softube’s website and from authorized dealers around the world. The list price is $39, but it is available at an introductory price of $29 until April 30, 2017."

Generative Music part VII

Published on Apr 4, 2017 Gibran Curtiss

"This time the fully functional prototype of the generative music module patched to the 4MS SMR passing thru a custom Spring Reverb.

One square wave oscillator with a fixed frequency feeding the 4MS input.

The final configuration of the module is :
-4 (0V to +5V) CV outs with buffered MCP4725 DACs.
-1 Trigger out with led indicator;
-parameter / value knobs to control the internal variables;

Again, some code improvements to do a better control over the note distribution to CVs.
The evolution of the generative module was locked this time just to play around with 4MS, basically, the same melody all the time but exploring the internal variations of the CVs.
Remember that the whole sound was played ONLY by the 4MS. No drum machines, no other modules.

The video was sent again because of a little mistake in the main title. :-)

crOwBX demo - DIY Oberheim OB-X clone (4 voice polyphonic)

Published on Apr 4, 2017 der oberling

"I recently finished my crOwBX synthesizer to the point that it's finally playable.

My previous demo only featured an uncalibrated single voice ([posted here]). This demo utilizes the whole 4 voice calibrated analog power of the beast.

Since I'm no keyboard player I prerecorded some notes and chords in ableton, corrected them, quantized them where needed an played them back looped - sorry for that :-)

The signal is completely dry - the crOwBX all by itself through my Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 into Ableton. Only the last bit got a little MIDI-Clock synced LFO from my MIDI-CV unit ;-) .

A unison demo is yet to come... It's a little challenging to keep the 15 minutes limit.

This project was "in the making" now since 2013. That's mainly due it's over 3000 parts to solder, debugging, initial calibration (which is really excessive) and finally I wanted to develop my own MIDI-CV unit for this which I did. All in all it's very rewarding to have it all up and running finally and it sounds gorgeous to my ear - but listen for yourselfs :-)"
