Published on Feb 16, 2015 donaldjasoncrunk

"a new configuration for my Erthenvar / Pulp Logic lunchbox synth centered around the WMD Sequential Switch Matrix and Make Noise Phonogene. both are controlled by some custom layouts i made in touchOSC, and MIDI is being transmitted via the MIDI Implant tile.

this rig is really intented to function alongside the Korg Volcas and other similar instruments, with the SSM being very useful for routing clocks and audio between the boxes.

in this patch, a cycling function acts as master clock for the STG Soundlabs .DIV, which the WMD SSM dutifully distributes to the Volcas, Phonogene and back into itself. The XY pad controls CV inputs on the Phonogene while the Korg Volca keys and Monotribe stumble along behind."

Building a Sequencer with the World's First Personal Computer

via giorgiosancristoforo.net where you'll find the full post.

Giorgio Sancristoforo is the man behind Berna.

"So here is the idea: in the video episodes that I will post here, I will learn assembly, refresh my Basic knowledge, and start programming and connecting the Altair to a modern PC/Mac to transform the Altair into a digital sequencer (linear and/or generative).

The first part of this musical quest is to make the Altair communicate with MaxMSP software by Cycling74, so I will be able to build both standalone programs and MIDI software interfaces, later I will try to make some tests with Processing.

Next I’d like to interface the Altair with Arduino and see if I can manage to work to a prototype board+software to sequence Control Voltages for the Buchla Music Easel analog synthesizer. The Easel’s programming cards are the ideal interface for the task. Any help, comments and critics from retrocomputing and assembly lovers, is more than welcome." It was sold off to a private owner who died around 2007 and I purchased it for his sister along with some other pieces. From what I can tell it seems to be fully working although it sounds like a loose nut that holds the face plate on is rolling around when you tilt the closed case. "Made in the 1970s, System 3000 modular synthesizers were popular with those experimenting with electronic music. They were reputedly sold to Karlheinz Stockhausen and were distributed in the United States by Bob Moog's Big Briar Inc.

The kit on offer belonged to my late brother, who worked for many years in the sound industry.

The keyboard and modules on offer have not been used in over 20 years, but appear to still be in reasonable condition. There is no apparent damage to the circuitry or the module fascias. The small number of screws on the keyboard appear superficially rusty, though they still turn easily. There are a few scratches to the metal casing of the keyboard."

Roland JD-Xi Prototyp | Beatmaking Test

Published on Jan 22, 2015 PortalKlawiszowy

Pozdrawiam
Teka"

Googlish:

"I am very pleased to present you beatmaking demo recorded on a prototype of the latest Roland synthesizer. JD-X or a revolutionary instrument that combines elements of synthesis of analog and digital, in a completely different style than ever before. The instrument provides us with 4 sections: 2 with digital synthesis, 1 the synthesis of analog and 1 bitmaszyny section. Additionally enriched with intuitive and very easy to use step sequencer and Vocoder. the instrument sounds surprisingly good, dynamic, spatially sticky sounds great in the mix and are extremely plastic. As for the presets, developers Roland heavily worked hard over the instrument perfectly to find the latest trends in sound. We find here a great pre-programmed sound styles such as trap, hip hop, rnb, dubstep and electronic music widely understood. there is no room for cases! instrument great both in the studio and on the stage and thanks sequencer krokowemu do not need to produce anything else! This is definitely a great tool, which all strongly recommended!"

7 Minutes with an Ipad Synth - PPG WaveMapper for IOS

Published on Feb 16, 2015 Synth Anatomy

iTunes: WaveMapper - Wolfgang Palm

"PG WaveMapper features the Sound Map, which maps the various sounds in a way to easily access and experiment with them, more importantly the PPG WaveMapper features a new synthesis system which maps the waveforms of a sound into a new kind of wavetable which preserves the sound characteristics better than classic Wavetable synthesis and at the same time allows for the manipulations which make WT synthesis so unique.

The Mapping window is the visualisation of a pool of programs on which “modules” float. Those modules represent certain parameters of the synthesiser engine and each module can be placed on one of 32 programs. The moment an item is placed on map then the parameters of that module will take on the settings of those parameters in the underlying program on the Mapping window.

People who do not posses synth-programming skills can use this mapping technology as a starting point to create complex sounds. For example a user can drag a string sound source onto a drum envelope, or a guitar sound onto a string envelope – the concept is simple, yet incredibly powerful."

Casio CZ-1 Running through the Dreadbox Erebus Filter

Published on Feb 16, 2015 ProckGnosis

"I was curious how my Casio CZ-1 (a very 80's digital synth!) would sound running through my fully analog Dreadbox Erebus Analog Synth filter.

It met and surpassed my expectations!

Unfortunately I didn't really maximize the test options in this video. I didn't do a full-resonance filter sweep test with the CZ oscillators, so sonically I didn't really "push the envelope" so to say.

Regardless, it sounds great, and it has inspired me to put a piece/song together with heavy contributions from this Phase Distortion antique! I say it again...not the most programmable synth on the planet, but very capable of producing some unique and cool sounds, especially running through a quality analog filter...

Cheers!"
