Yamaha SY99 8MB Magic Memory Board from WohMart.COM

"WohMart.COM is proud to announce the Yamaha SY99 8MB Magic Memory Board (MMB) is now available!

This is an all-new designed-from-scratch 8 megabyte sample/MDR expansion board for the SY99. It installs under the bottom cover, and uses 2 of the connectors on the DM2 circuit board. It also needs 2 extra signals, taken from an IC on the board - so installation requires an intermediate level of technical skill (soldering to fine-pitch SMT ICs skills are necessary).

We will also be supplying upgrade EPROMs and CPUs if your SY99 needs them. Because blank CPUs are very hard to obtain, these do come at a premium price. If you already have v1.57 on your SY99, you only need our customised EPROM. Be sure to read the instructions on the order page carefully, and select the correct version when placing your order.

Full details, including installation instructions at the order page, [here]. The first batch (extremely limited quantities) will be shipping next month. Batch 2 will ship early next year."

"This listing is for one Korg Lambda vintage synthesizer. It is working great and other than some scratches here and there, looks good too. There are not many Lambdas out there, an unfortunate fact as they are well-equipped at performing 70s/80s polysynth sounds, Solina-like stringsynth pads and 70's-esqe synth-clavs, pianos, etc. The sound is very similar to the PS-3100/3200/3300 range of synths."

Deepmind 12 Vs Prophet 6: Why the huge price difference?

Published on Nov 8, 2018 Starsky Carr

"A look at why some synths are more expensive than others. The Prophet 6 is 3.5 x the cost of the Behringer Deepmind 12. Is one overpriced, or the other amazing value...?

From a practical perspective what are the differences and is the price difference really justified?

I'm not saying one is overpriced or the other is cheap or poor quality, I'm really trying to take a completely unbiased view of the differences.

If you can't get your hands on ether or both you may have wondered why yourself.... hopefully this can go some way to answering the question.

I really need two more Forbidden Planets from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"I re-organized my live system to integrate the 3 three Tiptop Audio Forbidden Planet filters into it, All 3 are in High Pass mode and are replacing some other filter I had. Why? because Forbidden Plant's High Pass filter sounds absolutely great on anything I put through it. The only problem now is I need two more as I have 5 high pass and 3 low pass filters in the current patch.

In this Video:

Low Tom 909, SD808, RS808 -> Vermona VcDrive -> Toppobrillo High Pass -> Tiptop Audio Z2040 Low Pass

The Tuesday Night Machines: 6 things I like about the Bastl THYME #TTNM

Published on Nov 8, 2018 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Here are six things I like about the Bastl Instruments THYME effect processor. MORE INFO BELOW :)

---------

PixelNoises Synth T-Shirts by The Tuesday Night Machines:
https://shop.spreadshirt.co.uk/pixeln...

---------

Bastl Instruments Thyme website:
https://www.bastl-instruments.com/ins...

The Thyme is an effects processor that is best described as a sequenceable robot operated digital tape machine. With a lot of parameters at hand it enables the exploration of all the time based effects and the vast space in between their classical multi-effects categories (delay, phaser, reverb, chorus, pitch shifter, multi-tap delay, tape delay, tremolo, vibrato, compressor) and in stereo! Each of the 9 different parameters (Tape Speed, Delay Coarse & Fine, Feedback, Filter, extra heads Spacing and Levels, Dry Wet Mix and Volume) has a dedicated, very flexible modulation source – called the Robot – which can be phased out differently for left and right channel to create psychedelic new sound effects. The Robot can either be an LFO with many different waveshapes, external CV source or an envelope follower to enable effects reacting to dynamics. On top of everything there are 8 buttons to select a preset and those presets can be sequenced by a built in meta sequencer. The Sequencer, the Robots and the Delay can be synchronised to external or internal clock. Thyme interfaces with MIDI, analog clock and CV, it has a switchable stereo/mono input, stereo output, headphone output with level and foot switch jack."

"Used for one week in a smoke free studio. Mint Condition. CV options and DIN sync for older machines. USB connectivity and perfect SYNC. Amazing piece of kit.

Engine is a powerful multitrack step sequencer with 8 polyphonic tracks for recording both melodic and percussion patterns. Pattern chaining, snapshots and a song mode help move your ideas from simple loops to completed songs. The six performance knobs can be used to control external devices or the built-in performance effects system, which includes velocity and gate offsets and ratcheting. Engine includes comprehensive editing features to fine tune your performance, with rotation, cut/copy/paste for both patterns and individual steps.
An optional CV/Gate expansion board turns Engine into a powerful analog sequencer.
With 16 configurable output jacks, each track can have a dedicated CV/Gate pair, or you can choose from several modes to send clocks, controllers, triggers and more.

Precise 16-bit outputs with a true bipolar output swing from -3V to +7V make it possible to get the most out of your analog synthesizers.

Gates output a +10V signal, which is perfect for triggering some older machines."

"Tested and working perfectly.

This unit has been serviced extensively by vintage synth expert Steve Jones in Sydney.

Cosmetically the unit exhibits typical crazing and rust spots throughout but it sounds like a million bucks!

I would be very wary of buying a Jupiter 8 that has not been serviced by a real professional who has documented the work carried out. Parts are extremely expensive and difficult to find.

Below is the work that was carried out on the unit from the work order July 2016

'Located and replaced failed Roland BA6632 VCA on lower module controller board. This was killing the VCF LFO on lower voices. Cleaned up gain selector switch. Replaced failed CA3046 transistor array which killed voice 4 VCO 2. Replaced perished rubber buffers on the pitch bender. Calibrated bender and mod controls. Repaired dry solder joint on volume board that was silencing the upper output. Cleaned up all of the intermittent switches and controls'"

With Tinkerbell and a bee printed on it, no less. The last one posted was back in 2011 with a blue front panel; no Tinkerbell or bee. Some details from the listing:

"The Pixie is a clone of the WASP that keeps the salient features of the WASP but replaces the keyboard circuitry with a MIDI interface to provide a more flexible product, giving the user access to a wide range of MIDI controllers including keyboards, seuqncers, laptop/PCs.

To help improve the stability of the design, the two 555-based VCOs and associated decoding ciruitry

have been replaced with a dual-digital oscillator built on the Mitsubishi M16C.

The Pixie expands the original WASP by adding the following extra functions:-
Additional waveshapes on both DCO's (Triangle, Sine and Modulated Square)
2nd WASP Filter
Low-Pass Filter
Ring Modulator
4-channel pre-FilterMixer
4-channel pre-Output Mixer."

"This is a fully loaded 120 Programs 8 Voice OB-Xa with aftermarket MIDI that currently does not turn on. I believe its power supply needs to be rebuilt, as it seems that the caps have dried up. I used this synth in my studio for years and it was fully working, but I moved recently and needed to store it as I didn't have room for it in my new space, and when I took it out of storage, it wouldn't turn on anymore. Sadly, at this time I don't have the time to commit to repairing it or the space for it, so I wanted to pass it on to someone who can give it more attention. Monophonic vs. Polyphonic Synthesizers: Which is Right For You? | Reverb

Justin Delay is here to help make the decision less intimidating.

The most extreme delay effect in the world!?

Published on Nov 7, 2018 ANDREW HUANG / SUTURE SOUND

Third video is super nice.

Playlist:
The most extreme delay effect in the world!
Rain I | Andrew Huang
Generative sequence coming from Eloquencer - about half the notes are set to skip or slightly vary in pitch about half the time. The sequence plucks nRings (4-note polyphony, modulated/inharmonic string mode) which runs through Rainmaker for delay, Jellysquasher for compression, and Morgasmatron for a bit of low pass filtering in the outro. Towards the end I also fade Rainmaker gradually to full wet.

CV coming from Noise Tools' slew output (attenuated by Quad VCA), Pamela's New Workout, and Dual S&H, to modulate the delay time and nRings' "brite" and "damp". In hindsight I should have attenuated further because the delay signal's pitch gets a little too warbly at times.

Final output brought into Ableton to pass through a FabFilter Pro-R reverb and to add the rain recording.
Rain II | Andrew Huang
A variation on the patch I posted yesterday. I randomized Eloquencer's sequence, randomized Rainmaker's settings, changed nRings' to sympathetic strings mode and fine tuned some of its other parameters, and this whole other piece arrived in a matter of minutes.
