Fairlight CMI IIX Vintage Additive Digital Synthesizer Sampler Working

"This system is ready to make music. No excuses. No more work is needed to be done from a musician's standpoint. It functions reliably and is a joy to own and play. The light pen works great etc. If you buy the system you will get the FULL Fairlight experience with no work arounds. (Unless you consider a floppy emulator a workaround, it is a godsend to me.)

The keyboard is from a series 1, so it has the airy light synth action. It is still touch sensitive like the series II, but has the synthy action.

Both 8 inch drives have been removed and replaced with a custom dual floppy emulator.

The connections for the 8" drives are still there and work. The original floppy card has been modded so you can run the emulator and the old drive at the same time. If you have a couple of old YE data drives you can easily install them and will never have to remove the floppy emulator connection..."

Sequential Artist Spotlight Interview with DAVID JOSEPH WESLEY

You can find the interview on Sequential's website here.

"David Joseph Wesley is a Grammy Award nominated composer based in Los Angeles, working in film, TV, and video games. You may have recently heard his music on several network TV, cable and Netflix series such as James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction, Chicago Fire, Veep, Saturday Night Live, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Santa Clarita Diet, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, as well as many trailers and commercials including Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2, Hotel Transylvania, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Dave was also fortunate to work with composer Ron Jones on the music for several seasons of Family Guy, which also enabled him to work with the largest live orchestra in television history. One of his favorite projects is his work on the music for “Firefly Online,” the video game based on Joss Whedon’s groundbreaking Firefly TV series. Although the game was never completed, he released his music for the game via the album Music To Smuggle By in 2018 as a tribute to the fans and to keep the Firefly spirit alive.

Dave finds inspiration for his music everywhere. An avid astronomer, his love of space led to two albums, several singles and multiple YouTube jam sessions about the cosmos and space-phenomena. In 2019, he released the album, Cassini, as a tribute to the NASA Cassini mission to Saturn, written entirely on the Prophet-6. And in 2017, in collaboration with NASA, Dave wrote an album for the solar eclipse titled Syzygy, also created entirely on the Prophet-6. Similarly, his obsession with synthesizers and the 80s naturally led to his “Pumpkin Patches” albums of synth-based music inspired by 70s and 80s horror as well as synthwave music released under the name “Parsec.”

We chatted with David on how he uses Sequential instruments in his music."

Scoping out Bifold - New Dual Channel Wavefolder From Intellijel

Bifold Intellijel

"Bifold is a dual channel wavefolder, where one channel (the P channel) has a sonic characteristic inspired by the Buchla-style Parallel “deadband” folding circuit, while the other channel (the S channel) is more characteristic of a Serge-type Serial folding circuit. Besides offering two unique flavours of wavefolding, Bifold features numerous feedback and routing options along with CV control, enabling you to mix, blend and crossfade those flavours into a rich stew of unique waveforms and harmonic movement.

In this video we take a quick look at how Bifold sounds and how it works, in order to get a sense of the creative possibilities offered by this module."

First Folds With Bifold

"This video provides a few demos of how Bifold sounds when used in musical sequences, drones, and distorting drums.

Video Chapters:
00:03 - Melodic sequence with blends of folding
01:36 - Distorting drums and aux feedback
02:36 - Ringmod bell tones and AM
03:28 - Growling drone"

Coming soon for $229.00

"Wavefolding can be one of the most powerful yet simple ways to introduce complex timbres to a simple waveform. When done well, the results can be warm, textured, organic and full of musical character. We studied some of the most revered wavefolding circuits and looked at ways to integrate the positive qualities of these into a design that was full of sweet spots and allowed for a huge amount of experimentation and modulation.

Bifold combines two unique wavefolders with a crossfader; One channel (the P channel) has a sonic characteristic inspired by the Buchla-style Parallel “deadband” folding circuit, while the other channel (the S channel) is more characteristic of a Serge-type Serial folding circuit. There are distinct differences to how they react to specific waveforms, modulation and even their overall frequency response. By linking both folders together with a voltage controlled crossfader we further expand the ability to blend these two different folders together to create new waveforms. But this just scratches the surface of possibilities. Ring modulation, blending, crossfading, complex noise generation, feedback modulation, cascaded folding and so much more are all possible thanks to the strategically placed routing switches, jack normals and attenuators and other control options. This is a module that invites much exploration and discovery and pairs well with almost any kind of modulation and sound source."

Again, I'm patching both the SpazeDrum analog drum computer and the deMoon digisynth into Little deFormer 3 granular workstation. There I add bass lines with the built-in analog filters, drones and weird effects. The Linnstrument MIDI keyboard plays a deMoon patch I made with my iPad editor. The eight edit knobs on the LD3 are all mapped to specific functions in the patch, so that I don't need a separate MIDI knobs controller :) Let me know if you have any questions!

Black Corporation Kijimi SN 1212

via this auction

"Amazing 8 voice analog polysynth.

In addition to the two VCOs, you have a sub-oscillator and noise. These run into a great sounding Low Pass filter with its own dedicated ADSR envelope and then to a VCA with plenty of drive (and of course it has a dedicated ADSR as well).

OK, all that sounds great, but you've seen it all before. However, the Kijimi has more tricks up its sleeve. For starters, it's MPE-capable and you have independent control over velocity and polyphonic aftertouch.

The modulation section to the left has a pair of LFOs and they can be synced, shaped by envelopes, and routed to a lot of modulation destinations. This unit has the 1.2 OS installed, which gives you independent amounts of modulation per destination, effectively giving you an LFO per voice.

In addition to the LFO and envelopes, you have a lot of MIDI modulation sources at your disposal.

Basically, this synth can range from being a simply WYSIWYG analog poly to a full-blown almost modular powerhouse with the ability to draw out every nuance of your playing and rewarding the detailed sequencing edits you can do in a DAW.

In addition to the audio and MIDI In/Out/Thru connectors, there is a USB port as well on the back. The headphone jack is conveniently located on the front panel.

This Kijimi has never been rackmounted and is in excellent condition and comes with the power brick and original box."

Modular Monday: Mutable Instruments Braids vs. Plaits is a Fight We All Win

Red Means Recording

"Braids and Plaits are both digital macro Eurorack oscillators from Mutable Instruments. They're both excellent, but what makes them different? Let's find out.

Get my modular album and donate to a good cause: https://soundvision.bandcamp.com/albu...

Here are some differences I missed!
* Plaits shares no hardware or software with Braids!
* Floating-point DSP code written from scratch or inherited from Elements, Warps and Rings.
* Band-limited synthesis used almost everywhere, producing aliasing-free results at the base sample rate of 48kHz (Braids ran at 96kHz and used naive oversampling).
* High-quality Sigma-Delta ADC for CV acquisition, approaching a resolution of 16-bit (12-bit for Braids).
* ADC reads are interpolated in software to eliminate zipper noise.
* DC-coupled audio output, extending the range of the module to very low frequencies (Braids could not reach LFO ranges).
* Lean hardware design: less HP, mA and €"

Sempervirens | Felt Instruments Blisko, Strymon Magneto

r beny

"Sempervirens - always flourishing or vigorous. (of plants) evergreen

Sound on sound performance with Felt Instruments Blisko and Strymon Magneto. Inspired by the recent forest fires here in California, specifically the sempervirens sequoias, which manage to flourish even in fire.

Felt Instruments makes beautiful virtual instruments in VST format. Here I am using their newest suite of instruments named Blisko, which incorporates Viola, Violin, and Cello recorded and modified in interesting ways. They are MPE compatible and that adds an extra layer of expressiveness. It feels like you are playing an actual physical instrument, as opposed to the normal multi-sample experience.

I am using my iPad as a screen for my computer to show the VST. The Analog Heat is acting as an audio interface for my computer, so I can send the audio from the VSTs to my eurorack. I use Strymon Magneto to make sound on sound loops and then feed that into Clouds in looping delay mode. The bass is from the Moog Subharmonicon.

Apologies for the lower than usual video quality. I didn't realize I wasn't shooting in 4k and this ended up being the best take. Sometimes you just have to let things be."

"This is a demo of the Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP module in Eurorack format from Zebra Synth (ZebraSynth.net). The module features an ADSR envelope generator, a VCA on the right half of the module. These functions remain the same with all of the different "Modes". The functionality of the left half of the module changes from mode to mode. The modes are VCO, VCF, Voice, Digital Delay, Reverb, Dual Resonator.

This is video shows the delay mode with modulation to create a flange effetc. An external analog oscillator is the only other audio module used. The Swiss Daisy provides ADSR/VCA processing before going into the delay section."

U.D.O Super 6 - review and deep demonstration

synthlegends

"After owning my Super 6 allready two weeks, I made a review and deep demonstration of all sections.

Contents of this review:
1. Oszillator Section
2. Binaural Mode
3. Voice Assign
4. Filter Section
5. Chorus and Delay
6. LFO 1 and FM
7. Envelopes
8. Sound Demo and tweaking
9. Conclusion and Recomendation

I recorded everything life without any mastering, FX, outboard or plugins.

Finally I can recommend the Super 6 as a very great sounding synth with a lot of character. It is quite unique and I would say, its a boutique synth, not comparable in this respect with the Novation Summit. Its all about the sound, the Binaural Mode ist nice to have but not a killer feature to get the Super 6. The most advantages are the great GUI, nice modulation possibilities and its creativity potential for modern style electronic music.

"Excellent condition ARP 2601 with its matching 3620 keyboard. Outside of minor white spots on the keyboard lid (not the keyboard itself, as shown on pics) this Arp is in beautiful condition. Its electronic condition is matching the cosmetics: it was thoroughly serviced in 2014 by Phil Cirocco at CMS Discrete Synthesizers and has not needed any service since then. All functions work to specs. Phil Cirrocco is the acknowledged expert in ARP service and repair.

The original owner made two modifications to the original specs:

1) On the keyboard control panel there is a small red toggle switch in the upper right corner and a red momentary push button next to the vibrato sliders. With the switch in the “off” position the LFO/vibrato controls work in standard fashion. When the switch is in the “on” position the vibrato delay is replaced by push button activation. Pushing the button engages the LFO/vibrato depth settings instantly. This allows for expressive use of vibrato while playing.
2) There are two additional jacks on the lower left corner of the console, and one additional jack on the keyboard control panel next to the connector cable. These allow for an optional ground cable (included) to connect the chassis grounds between the keyboard and console. In some studio situations this improved pitch stability. It is entirely optional."

Watch here for future episodes! On this episode, we welcome the Frequency Shift Takeover, an event showcasing female and non-binary musicians, organized by the SoCal Synth Society. This episode features performances by Becoming Zero and Trovarsi and interviews with the artists and the organizers of Frequency Shift.

Trovarsi is a LA based music producer and live performance artist who brings a unique sound to the world of electronic music. With a hybrid blend of analog synths, modular, drum machines and Ableton, she builds a pulsing atmosphere to any set she plays. This video focuses on the idea of creating a powerful performance with a minimal setup. The idea is to push you to be creative and inspire you to get the most out of your instrument.

Currently residing in the USA, Holly Vernon is an avante-garde, electronic industrial music artist. She works primarily with modular synthesis and effects. Her inspiration comes from a blend of Riot Grrrl, Fluxus, and a fascination with sci-fi and the macabre. (Before the COVID) She was an active performer; primarily around Los Angeles and Austin, TX. The performance you're about to watch is an improvisational piece that challenges and bends time and complex rhythms to create a soundscape for a post-apocalyptic dystopian suburbia."

Glitch Synth Music // Gotharman SpazeDrum, Little deFormer 3 & deMoon #TTNM

THE TUESDAY NIGHT MACHINES

"Finally, here‘s a little jam session with all my Gotharman synthesizers together! More info below :)

♥ SUPPORT: http://bit.ly/ttnm-support

I acquired an old, second-hand, DIY deMoon synth a few weeks ago, which was one of Gotharman‘s first commercial devices over ten years ago. Back then, I didn‘t understand nor appreciate its existence, but this has changed of course ;-) With that instrument rounding off my SpazeDrum + Little deFormer 3 setup, I decided to patch everything together and do something. So in this video, the SpazeDrum and deMoon each send their stereo audio into the LD3. There, the audio is combined with internal LD3 synth sounds and processed by its granular synthesis FX. The Linnstrument MIDI keyboard plays the deMoon and the SpazeDrum and deFormer both use their internal multi-track sequencers. I mapped the eight EDIT knobs on the deFormer 3 to various parameters and of course play with both the SpazeDrum‘s and LD3‘s morph knobs.

Roland Jupiter-8 (Groove Electronics MIDI Mod) Editor for MIDI Designer

via MIDI Designer

"This simple layout allows acces to all MIDI controllers that are exposed by the Groove Electronics MIDI modification from 1987 for the Roland Jupiter-8. Note, that the Groove MIDI interface does not expose all parameters of the Jupiter-8, but at least the most important.

This layout comes in handy when you want to record controller movements into your DAW, which is otherwise not possible with the Jupiter-8, since the Groove interface does not send out any parameter changes from the Jupiter-8 panel controls through its MIDI output.

Another interesting use-case is the much higher fader resolution you get when controlling the Jupiter-8's parameters via MIDI. I suspect that the Groove MIDI interface adds too much load to the old CPU of the Jupiter-8 that the timing/resolution of the hardware faders suffer somehow. However, the same parameters sent via MIDI are processed much faster and smoother. So, if you need faster fader resolution this MD layout might help you."

Not just any TB-303 clone: this is a very underrated synth that provides the TB-303 sound iwith a ton of extra features!

A very high quality piece: I've owned several TB-303 clones over the years and the TeeBee ranks near the top in terms of both sound and features. The TeeBee is unique in being one of the only TB-303 style synths in a 19" rackmount format. The knobs are some of the best on any gear I've ever had - really wish more manufacturers made gear this solid!

Features:
Velocity sensitive Synthesizer based on Roland TB-303
Mixable Analog Filter with analog input
Sync-box with DIN sync and MIDI!
MIDI-to-CV convertor!
4-channel CV / Gate for eurorack integration, etc.
Analog controller
Fast digital Midi controller (sends MIDI CC's for automation control).
Internal MIDI sequencer (basic)
Slide effect controlled through MIDI, as well as every other editable parameter using MIDI SysEx commands!"

"• Modifications :

-CLONE KLM-367A PCB. Brand new control board! Slightly lower-noise TL072 op-amps used instead of 4558's, high-quality long-life electrolytic capacitors, original rare transistors. Includes new CR2032 coincell battery (memory backup).

-VOICES DIRECT OUT. An extra output socket has been added that bypasses the Polysix Effects section, which normally adds noise even when set to "off" - bypassing the Effects section results in a much cleaner sound!

-EFFECTS IN. An extra input socket has been added to route external sounds through the analog "Bucket Brigade" Polysix Effects section. When in use, the Effects output is routed to the Output and Phones, while the internal Polysix sound is routed to the Voices Direct Out.

-SAW-PULSE WAVEFORM. The Saw Waveform can be used in combination with the PulseWidth Waveform, and there is a toggle switch to enable or disable the function. The waveform mix is saved in the patch data as well!

-MIDI IN. Includes Bob Tauntek's Polysix MIDI interface. Basic MIDI IN functionality: MIDI channel setting, Note On/Off, and the ability to MIDI clock the Arpeggiator. The functions are set by holding down specific keys during power-on. There is a small instruction sticker located under the keys for easy reference.

-ADDITIONAL NOISE REDUCTION. Extra steps were taken for optimum noise levels. Although this Polysix does not include the KiwiSix kit, all the additional grounding steps to reduce hum that are described in the KiwiSix installation have also been performed. Slightly lower noise TL072 op-amps have also replaced all the 4558's on the KLM-368 Effects PCB. Perhaps there is no audible difference - but it sounds great, in any case!

-SERVICED AND TUNED. The synthesizer has been adjusted to the exact specifications and tuning described in the original Korg service manual. It was given a general cleaning, rubber key contacts were refreshed, sticky tact switch buttons addressed, loose knobs tightened, etc. It's in excellent working condition!

-COMES LOADED WITH ORIGINAL FACTORY PRESETS. Presets can be backed up or restored with only minor headache using audio files and the PolySix Tape Interface."

Synth Stuff Ep. 67 - Korg Wavestate

tritonrecordings

"I kinda blew off the Wavestate at first, thinking it was just a repackaged Wavestation. Which is cool, but vintage Wavestations are fairly cheap (especially the racks). However this thing is far beyond the original. While it has some of that sort of cheesy Wavestation vibe if you want it, it is certainly far more modern sounding. Not that it can't do other sounds, but it really excels at pads and soundscapes, which is most of what you'll hear on this episode. Far easier to edit on this as well, compared to the atrocious interface of the original. Personally, I really like strange sounds, so this synth is right up my alley."

Sequential Prophet 6 "PolyVision" sound set by Synthient Sound [patch play through 0-49]

Synthient Sound

"The apocalypse of sound will be September 1st...we've foreseen it.

It has been foretold that the Prophet 6 needs no introduction, and so it has come to pass. But a prophet’s true value is in their message; is your synthesizer rambling on a soap box, or is it predicting the sonic promised land of tomorrow from the darkness of today?

Synthient’s PolyVision sound set for the legendary Prophet 6 takes the message of the Prophets of old and envisions a future where technicians become artists. Its 100 included presets are meant for touching, tasting and embracing, not just hearing. Mix, modify, twist and contort these tones until they are haptically, deliciously, and existentially you… then channel your polyphonic spree into a message for all humankind.

A Prophet 6 without a prophet is, after all, merely a blank scroll seeking a hopeful message; PolyVision will be the inspiration for your revelation… and the instigator of your sonic journey.

We predict it.

Available September 1st at synthientsound.com"

Matrix Dude synth: first contact

boxoftextures

"My first contact with Matrix Dude, a new synth app from Digituria. I really like this app. It's kind of Minimoog-ish but with a lot more possibilities for modulation. Easy to use, sounds good, it's even bright and colorful!

A few notes though. One is that this is more or less an alpha version, still very much in development. As such, things will definitely be changing in the app. Many for the better I'm sure but things in this video may also be changed or eliminated. So be sure to remember the early-in-development status of the app when I'm adjusting the fine tuning of the oscillators a number of times, for example. I've spoken with the developers and they know about this and are definitely working on the tuning algorithms. I'm also told the look and feel of the app may be changing substantially so followup videos may look quite different.

All that being said, I had a lot of fun patching up sounds in Matrix Dude. Was quick and easy, and it sounds darn good. Looking forward to future updates to the app.

Lastly, I was going to make a quick one-minute tune as the outro music but ultimately decided the bass sound didn't really mesh with the arpeggio sound as it had a bit too much in the high frequencies. Next version I'm thinking I'll greatly lower the envelope 2 amount so you don't get as much of a burst of high frequency energy at the start of each note. It's fine with just the arpeggios there at the end but I was definitely planning something a bit more musical as a short demo of what you could do. Same with the lead sound, might soften the attack of the envelope just a bit to make it a bit less percussive at the beginning of a note.

Joranalogue Introduces Two New Eurorack Modules: Morph 4 and Fold 6

via Joranalogue

Straight from the Dutch Modular Fest Stream Day 2020: presenting not one, but two new additions to the Joranalogue Eurorack module series!

Both modules will enter production soon, with worldwide releases planned within the next few months. Read on below to learn all about them!

Designed as a fully-featured modulation hub for Eurorack synthesisers, Morph 4 takes the basic concept of the multi-VCA module to the next level.

Four linear amplitude modulators are controlled by a master ‘morph’ parameter. The response of each modulator to this parameter is completely variable, both manually and under voltage control, and can be overridden if desired. Each response is triangular, with the ‘position’ parameter setting the maximum point along the morph axis, while ‘span’ determines the width of the triangle’s base.

The combination of master control, fully flexible modulators and multiple combined outputs creates a module truly embodying the spirit of ‘patch programmable’ modular synthesis. Use Morph 4 as a voltage controlled mixer, dual crossfader, dual panner, interpolating scanner, interpolating distributor, quad VCA, quadraphonic controller, slope modifier, rectifier, complex waveshaper or something in between any of those—the choice is yours.

For the first time, Fold 6 puts forward a 6-stage hybrid series/parallel topology, yielding a greater sonic palette than ever in just 4 HP. Having both main (series) and alternate (parallel) outputs means a single module now gives access to just about all wavefolding tones imaginable.

To take things even further, an integrated symmetrical soft clipper limits the output signals to approximately 10 Vpp, keeping the amplitude within typical Eurorack levels and making it easier to create overdriven sounds at high fold ratios. This clipping stage can be driven continuously using the shape parameter, smoothly transforming the folded waveforms into pulse waves for even more harmonic content.

Moving beyond simple signal processing, Fold 6 also lends itself perfectly for feedback patching, CV folding or frequency multiplication; its modest size belies the sonic capabilities within.

Polyend Tracker: First Impressions of the Tracker Workflow

Perfect Circuit

"The Polyend Tracker brings the Tracker sequencer workflow from the computer to this custom piece of hardware. If you are used to XOX or other styles of sequencers the Tracker with its top to bottom scrolling and hex code messages might seem confusing. The Polyend Tracker features a fill mode that adds randomized values into a sequence within a controllable range to get things going faster.

Since Trackers are sample focused the Polyend Tracker has a built in radio for you to sample from if you are looking for inspiration. It also features a performance mode with lots of effects that can be switched around in realtime to change things up. In addition to playing back internal samples the Tracker can be used as midi sequencer for your external synths.
