#NAMM 2025: The Stylophone CPM DF-8 Analog Dynamic Multifilter
video upload by CatSynth TV
"We get an introduction and demo to the new CPM DF-8 from Stylophone. This is a companion to the existing CPM DS-2 drone synthesizer, and adds multiple independent filter modules, VCAs and numerous CV interconnection opportuntitites.
'Meet Beauty & the Beast of all filters, the Beauty is our smooth discrete analog recreation of a 2045 (24 dB/oct) LP filter, and the Beast is our proprietary analog GEN R-8 (12 dB/oct) filter that can snarl and howl in all modes (LP, BP, HP, NOTCH). We then decided to combine the 2045 Lowpass filter with the Highpass of the GEN R-8 to create three additional filter types, a Bandpass (BP+), a phaser-like Band Reject (BR+) and a very wide Notch filter (NOTCH+), for some truly unique filter sounds.'

NAMM 2025: Nektar's Enhanced Impact LXPlus MK3 Controllers
video upload by sonicstate
"At NAMM 2025, we caught up with Tim from NeKtar, who introduced us to the new Impact LXP+ MK3 series. Building on the success of its predecessor, the LXP+ MK3 boasts expanded Cubase integration while retaining all its original DAW capabilities. One of the standout additions is the scale and chord feature, allowing for more dynamic musical exploration.
Nectar has significantly improved user convenience with timeline control, making loop-based recording more intuitive. The introduction of a loop record button enables seamless looping and editing. The MK3 now features endless rotaries with high resolution, replacing the older pots, allowing for smoother controls. Additionally, the MK3 offers NKS compatibility through a partnership with Native Instruments, enabling integration with their complete control system.
The series is available in several key sizes, including a 25-key version. It's offered at competitive prices, notably $199 for the 49-key variant."

NAMM 2025: U-he Shows the Zebra 3 Alpha
video upload by sonicstate
"Nick had a chat with Urs Heckmann from U-he, who was showing a sneak peek of the current Zebra 3 alpha version.
While it's still quite a long way from the final product, it's clear that Zebra 3 comes with a host of new and innovative features.
Urs highlighted that the inclusion of vector synthesis and a refined UI aims to push boundaries beyond what Zebra 2 offered. Zebra 3 allows you to mix four lanes into one, includes novel modules like the modal resonator, and features workflow improvements such as group selections and an integrated modulation matrix.
Zebra 3 also introduced new filter responses and pitch sources, offering flexibility to emulate various sound architectures. Urs explained that despite its alpha status, their focus is on refining sound design tools before rolling out other features, like an arpeggiator."
#namm 2025: The Behringer BX1, the Yamaha DX1 and CS80 Combined
video upload by CatSynth TV
"We get a tour of the new BX1 from Behringer, which combines two legendary flagship Yamaha synthesizers, the DX1 and the CS80 , bringing together the 6-operator double-layer FM architecture of the DX1 with the subtractive multi-filter capabilities of the CS80. The DX1's uniquely visible interface for FM 6-operator programming is reproduces as well, along with graphics for the substractive section, and effects section, and switchable DACs between clean modern and the DX7-style 12bit.
We also confirmed that the BX1 supports polyphonic aftertouch, as both the DX1 and CS80 did, and will support existing 6-operator sound libraries for the DX7, etc."
DRM1 MKIV: misuse or genius hack?
video upload by vermonagear
"Think you've tried all the settings on the DRM1 MKIV and uncovered every sound? Think again.
In this video, we 'misused' some channels to create sounds they weren’t designed for.
We used the SNARE channel to make a kick drum.
The snare sound? A mix of the HIHAT channel and DRUM1.
For the octave bass, we combined the KICK and DRUM channels.
Everything was loop-recorded in Logic Pro using the pads on the @ArturiaOfficial KeyLab MKII—with no extra effects added.
What do you think—total nonsense or worth exploring further? Let us know!

"A piece created using the OP-1 field, Prophet-10, and drums. Gentle harmonies are layered with glitchy, spontaneous rhythms and a Prophet melody.
On the OP-1 field, I perform harmonies and glitch beats. The beats are created using the ARPEGGIO sequencer and processed with the CWO effect.
With the Prophet-10, I play a simple melody and apply reverb using blueSky. Additionally, I add Valhalla Shimmer in the DAW.
The drum set is recorded with three microphones placed on the kick, snare, and overheads. Reverb and delay are applied in the DAW."

Press release follows:

Both firmware and software updates are free of charge.
The version 2 of the firmware and companion software introduces several new features and a com-plete graphic redesign, offering enhanced customization options for the keyboard.
Now featuring up to 32 scales and 8 notes layouts onboard
In addition to a wide selection of factory scales and layouts, users can design their own custom scales and note layouts using Exquis’ companion software. Each key can be assigned individual MIDI values and colors, with the configurations stored directly in the keyboard’s memory for standalone use as a MIDI MPE controller. These custom files can also be shared with the com-munity, fostering collaboration and creativity..
Customizable MIDI Messages and Sensitivity Curves
MIDI CC values for the four rotary, clickable encoders and action buttons are now fully editable via Exquis’ companion sof-tware and saved to the device’s memory for standalone operation. Additionally, users can fine-tune sensitivity curves for all expressive dimensions -velocity, X, Y, and Z axes- ensuring optimal control and responsiveness.
A Redesigned Graphical Interface
The Exquis companion software now features a completely redesigned graphical interface for quick and intuitive use. With its spontaneous workflow, users can compose simple songs in moments. Designed to transform Exquis into a standalone electronic instrument, the app combines an enhanced looper (11 tracks, 44 loops) with a simple sequencer (11 events) and is compatible with all AU, VST, and VST3 plugins, running seamlessly on macOS and Windows.
Adaptable to Any Configuration
One standout feature of the Exquis application is its ability to adapt to any note layout, saving it as a track parameter or even linking it to a plugin preset. This makes it possible to create hybrid instruments tailored to specific soundscapes, unlocking new creative possibilities.
250 Expressive Presets Optimized for Exquis
The update also includes 100 brand-new factory presets for the Vital and Decent Sampler free MPE plugins, complementing the refreshed 150 presets for the Surge XT free MPE plugin. All these presets are available directly within the Exquis app, ready to load in a single click, com-plete with optimized note layouts.

"Classic powerhouse of a poly-synth! The Yamaha CS60 shares the same architecture of the CS80 (including memory) which is why it's a fantastic synth to dial-in that big boy CS80 sound without the heavy price tag. This one was overhauled by our in-house technician, see notes below! Unfortunately, the ribbon controller is no longer responding to pressure on the treble side. Fully functional otherwise and sounds dreamy as one would expect! Sorry, no legs are included. Lid and pedal included as pictured.
Service notes:
-Replaced all electrolytic capacitors within internal power supply
-Replaced other electrolytic capacitors associated with power supply rail
-Replaced all "lilac" capacitors
-Cleaned all controls, exterior panel, knobs and inside of chassis
-Cleaned keybed and entire assembly
-Calibrated power supply, key CV generators and key CV sample and hold
-Tuned all voices
More info on the CS60:
Featuring two oscillators, two envelopes, and two low-frequency oscillators. It also has a built-in chorus effect and a built-in arpeggiator. The CS-60 is capable of producing a wide range of sounds, from warm and mellow to bright and aggressive.
The CS60 is a 8 note polyphonic synthesizer w/ velocity, aftertouch and a ribbon controller which offers the player a really organic feel into the performance of the instrument. Other key real-time control facilities, such as the LFO/ring-modulator section really make the CS60 a great players instrument – it’s all about the performance with the big CS polys. The resonant qualities of the Yamaha CS series filter are unmatched by any other poly-synth so they sound unique."

Oberheim OB 12 Synth Hunter Episode 50

Audio demo at the end. You can use the player controls on bottom to slide forward and to enable CC subtitles.
"The Oberheim OB-12 is a virtual analog synthesizer introduced in the late 1990s by Oberheim, then under the management of Viscount International. It was intended to transfer the iconic analog sound of the earlier Oberheim synthesizers such as the OB-Xa or the OB-8 into the world of digital signal processing.
The OB-12 has been praised for its wide tonal palette, ranging from gentle pads and bell-like tones to aggressive leads and basses. However, purists did not always regard it as a worthy successor to the analogue Oberheim synthesizers, as the digital sound character was sometimes perceived as less authentic.
Nevertheless, the OB-12 remains an interesting and versatile synthesizer that will be appreciated in both studios and live performances thanks to its distinctive sound and flexible programming options."

"Sound effect - sound modulator. A. Chervonsky.
In the video, first the sound from the electric guitar, from 2:45 with the voice, and from 4:12 from the audio player, the voice and the song.
Description from the magazine: "the described device makes it possible to modulate the amplitude and phase of the EMI signal with the audio frequency voltage from the auxiliary generator. The sharp specificity of the resulting musical effect (there is no established name for it) significantly limits its use, but in a number of cases of pop practice it can be quite justified. The frequency of the auxiliary generator can be changed during the game, introducing new colors into the sound of the instrument. In addition, the device has a vibrato generator, which additionally modulates the amplitude of the generator signal, which, in turn, leads to a timbre vibrato of the sound at the EMI output. The device has been tested in operation together with an electric guitar, but it is possible that good results can be obtained with other EMI."

(my addition - added a microphone amplifier to the circuit (it also came in handy for amplifying the guitar). The low-frequency generator (vibrato) is of course already outdated and has a small range. I increased the value of resistor R25 by 47-50 kilo-ohms, otherwise vibrato would not work. And I decided to add a variable resistor of 1 mega-ohm, after R12, to adjust the intensity of the effect. Although this does not give much)."

Bad Gear - The Gold Standard

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. Senior synth citizens like me might get the impression that the technical evolution is going backwards: the mass market returned to the dark ages of analog, there’s an obvious disconnect between traditional manufacturers and their customers and sampling hardware is slowly reapproaching the tech specs of 1991.
Today we are going to talk about the Korg EMX-1. This 2003 Electribe is considered to be the gold standard for groovebox design by many - and a gimmicky hotchpotch of cheap-sounding late dance sounds for more or less everyone else.

Korg reaches back to 1973 with its reissued MiniKorg 700Sm at NAMM 2025
video upload by MusicRadar Tech
"Korg has a habit of releasing its analogue synth reboots in both ‘full’ and ‘mini’ sizes, so we probably shouldn’t have been too surprised to learn that a smaller version of 2021’s MiniKorg 700FS - itself an enhanced emulation of 1974’s MiniKorg 700S - is on the way. The MiniKorg 700Sm is not one we had on our NAMM 2025 bingo card, though, so surprised – to a certain extent at least – we are. We caught up with Korg at NAMM 2025 to hear it in action."
"An all-in-one gig rig": Roland introduces the V-Stage at NAMM 2025
video upload by MusicRadar Tech
"Roland has released plenty of stage pianos in the past, but the new V-Stage looks like something a little different. Indeed, it feels like Roland is parking its considerable tanks directly on Nord’s lawn with this one, right down to those red wooden end cheeks. We hit the Roland stand at the 2025 NAMM show to hear it in action."
NAMM 2025: Realitone's Sunset Choir Choir Library
video upload by sonicstate
"At NAMM 2025, we caught up with Mike from Realitone*, who provided insights into their ongoing project, the *Sunset Choir library. Mike explained that this vocal library had been in development for a while, mainly due to the complex nature of recording different vocal articulations compared to string libraries. Unlike the simpler approach for strings, recording vowels like ah and ooh required more extensive sampling. Realitone dedicated nine days of intense studio work to capture this comprehensive array of sounds.
Mike demonstrated the dual-layer feature, allowing dynamic articulation blending, and showcased unique elements like enigmatic Latin phrases and slow bends. Additionally, the library supports consonant variations, legato transitions, and jazzy scat articulations. Though a work-in-progress, Mike expressed optimism about completing the library by spring, offering a glimpse into the intricacies of building such an elaborate musical tool."
