I was looking out of my window, looking at the mountains, seeing how the clouds are hovering and covering their peaks. It's a beautiful site from afar... there's an imaginable adventure in the distance. It would be different if I were there, if I were in those clouds, if I were climbing those mountains. Beautiful dreams are often seen from afar till you have to climb and find where you may not be able see the peak. Depending on whether you struggle to reach the top or be patient for the clouds to clear, you still must decide. Is this dream worth climbing for, is it worth waiting for. No matter the weather, whether you're climbing or waiting... decide is it worth it altogether? This beautiful dream from the window gaze."

Stanford CCRMA open house, day 1

The above is a walkthrough of a Stanford CCRMA open house from Thursday the 16th by supporing member SynthAddict. Take a look at what he walks into when he enters the building. A Yamaha GS1 with working voice programmer. The GS1 was the first commercial FM synthesizer released in 1980, three years prior to the DX7. John Chowning, discoverer of FM synthesis performed that night. According to SynthAddict: "The Chowning curated show last night was very eye opening - so much cool electronic music even going back to the 60s and it was digital."

"Found a sweet patch on the Arturia Polybrute 12 that encouraged me to make this performance I call "The Depth of Mankind". Performed live at Superbooth 2024. Polybrute has so much expressive capabilities! 🥳 I first recorded the performance into the OP-1 field (as my recorder), so I had roughly 6 minutes to make something sweet. Halfway through I brought up the phone and filmed some of it. Then after the music performance was done I recorded some B-shots for the video since I liked the groove that was going. 🍿🔥
So there you have it. "The Depth Of Mankind". Hope you enjoy the performance.

We will be relocating to Ilha da Madeira
We've begun the process of tearing down and packing up our home / HQ

What This Means For Customers:
We will attempt to ship all remaining backorders before we leave. Presently, that consists of a handful of our µCVC Haken Continuum-to-CV converter modules, and some Link case bridge modules.

We hope to re-open for business in Fall of 2024, but that may be subject to events beyond our control.

Révolution 909 Upgrade for the Roland TR-909

Principle:The Revolution 909 upgrade consists of two hardware modules which replace some integrated circuits on the 909’s Switch Board.
The first is a hardware memory expansion module including a new version 5 of the software.
The second is a small hardware enhancement to the 7-segment LED driver to display alphanumeric characters.
The new v5 firmware not only contains fixes and optimizations of the original versions 1 and 4, but new features have also been added!
The functionality and timing of the original sequencer has been preserved.
The spirit and philosophy of the machine has been respected. Remember, we always run on the same CPU!
Legacy versions 1 and 4 are also present in ROM and can be selected by a simple key combination.
This upgrade is fully compatible with the TR-909, the RE-909 and the SR-909.
The installation is totally non-destructive, no holes to drill, no traces to cut.

"At Superbooth 2024 we caught up with Danny from Novation and celebrated 10 years of the splendid *Bass Station 2 *by hooking up 10 Bass Stations so they can be played polyphonically. This Frankenstein's synth has been capped of with a filter cutoff knob that is ten times its normal size, and an Oy! random patch generator which gives useable patches most of the time. The whole thing is controlled by the 61SL with all the notes managed by a Max Patch running on a Mac hidden under the table. It makes us wonder if a Bass Station Polysynth might be in the offing, though perhaps not in this rather wild form factor!

Gerrit showcased the new modular versions of their popular products, the RK-008 *multi-track MIDI recorder and the *RK-6 *MIDI interface/USB MIDI host. "At Superbooth 2024, Sonic State got a sneak peek at the Horizon*, a new collaborative instrument by *Trent from Timeless Garden *and the developer of the Wing Pinger. The Horizon* features a resonator system built around the Wing Pinger device, with delays, a filter bank, and a touch sequencer/play surface to tie it all together. The unique design of the Horizon allows for exploration and inspiration, offering both melodic and experimental sound possibilities.
Trent demonstrated the capabilities of the Horizon, showcasing its ability to create strange and interesting sounds through feedback, FM modulation, and stepped modulation effects. The touch sequencer enables users to create melodies with variable step lengths and pitch quantization controlled by sliders. "At Superbooth 2024 we met up with Tom from Verbos Electronics, who introduced us to Sawtooth Stack, their first standalone instrument. It Has 2 AD envelopes which can be cycled, and 5 oscillators which can be detuned and spread across the stereo field, 2 on the left, 2 on the right and one in the middle.
Sawtooth Stack's fundamental pitch can be controlled via MIDI, as can every control on the panel, and cycling the envelopes for modulations can produce some interesting morphing tones.

"At Superbooth 2024, Matthijs from Cosmotronic showcased the latest offerings from the company, including the new module called Aphelion*. *Matthijs described Aphelion as a stereo distortion and DJ-style filter with three different distortion options: overdrive, wave folder, and one inspired by the ProCo Rat pedal. The module also features a character knob for morphing between the circuits, as well as a combined low pass and high pass filter after the distortion. With additional features like a bypass switch and low-cut option, *Aphelion *promises a dirty yet versatile sound. Another highlight from Cosmotronic is an expander for the *Cosmix Pro*, offering a three-band EQ, additional aux bus, and gain control for the four mono channels.

Since NAMM, Intuitive Instruments has been working on a new firmware that includes improved sensitivity settings and note layouts based on user feedback. Besides the traditional hexagonal layout, they now offer options such as the harmonic table layout for chord playing and microtonal music enthusiasts. Users will soon be able to customize individual key values via the app, expanding the creative possibilities of the instrument.

"At Superbooth 2024, the team at Sonic State caught up with Dom from Yamaha to get an exclusive look at the latest updates for the Montage M workstation synthesizer. Dom showcased the new operating system update, OS2, which includes some exciting features like SmartMorph for the ANX engine. This feature allows users to seamlessly morph between multiple sounds, creating unique and dynamic textures. The *SmartMorph *functionality was previously available for FMX and now extends to ANX as well, adding even more versatility to the already powerful Montage M.
Another highlight of the OS2 update is the addition of new reverb algorithms, including a shimmer reverb that adds a dreamy layer to any sound. Dom demonstrated how the shimmer reverb can be used to enhance sounds like piano and synths, providing a lush and atmospheric quality. Additionally, the update introduces a new modifier for the ANX engine, the wave folder, which allows for creative sound design possibilities like creating kick drums and morphing waveforms. The Montage M also gets an Expanded Soft Synth Plugin (*ESP*) for Montage M, which allows users to access and edit Montage sounds directly within their DAW. That range is wide! It uses the Leibniz Binary Subsystem interface and can be used as an extremely widerange clock source allowing for manual and voltage control over all parameters. Berlin outputs simultaneous square and saw/Leibniz wave outputs and when combined with the Liebniz Subsystem allows for extensive waveshaping.

"At Superbooth 2024 we caught up with Reza from Synthstrom Audible who showed us some of the developments to the Deluge in the past 10 months since the firmware was made open-source. The keyboard has been improved, and though it's not velocity sensitive, you can now latch different velocity levels to the keys. There's now a chord mode, with a chord memory to improve playability in live situations. Its now possible to develop your own mods provided you know C , but the developers have made it so if you make a mistake, you wont destroy your Deluge. If you get stuck, there's a devchat Discord for support, with the link on the website.
Deluge has a full-featured internal synthesizer engine providing subtractive, wavetable and FM synthesis and polyphony is limited only by CPU with up to 64 synth voices playing simultaneously. Deluge gives you live looping of audio and instruments, MIDI clips, including easy overdubbing with layering and automatic tempo setting.

"At Superbooth 2024 we met Timothy at the Dirtywave stand who showed us the new model of the M8 tracker. After suggestions from users the portable hand-held music device has been updated with a bigger battery, a bigger display, with USB C stereo audio in and out, TRS MIDI in and out, and side by side with the original M8, it looks like a great improvement.
The new M8 is backwards-compatible with the old firmware, which means the updates for model 2 will be applied to model 1. A ton of new features have been added, including the addition of 4 freely assignable modulation slots, and a new swarm synth *Hyper Synth*, with 13 oscillators that allow you to do chords. Built in chorus, delay and reverb is the final dusting of sonic joy on top.

We saw it last year at Superbooth, but it's had some updates, including the new knobs with smaller arrows, and this will be the final iteration of *Clutch*. In use, you can switch, pitch and filter the samples, and you can control the release time, and there is also another side of samples you can switch between. Clutch has 8 banks of 16 samples, and naturally, you can add your own.

Brainstep is a 4 track sequencer, clock distributor, euclidian arpeggiator and live recorder, with each track getting 4 ADSR envelopes which can be switched between linear and exponential behaviour, 4 accent envelopes, 8 syncable LFOS, and it even plays samples.
It's optimised for live performance and it has probability per step, and gives you 24 patterns which can be chained. It syncs via TRS, DIN sync or USB MIDI and there are 4 CV modulation inputs, microtuning, and it loads samples from an SD card.

The synth offers a range of engines, unique sync tricks for creating complex, polyphonic sounds, and it's 6 part multitimbral. The filter section boasts a multimode filter engine with customizable character settings and a phaser engine for classic phaser effects.
In addition to its powerful sound engine, the Redshift 6 includes a stereo mix bus with per-voice panning and a digital effects section with delay, chorus, and reverb (expected in future updates). It's all analog until the bypassable stereo DSP effects processor.

"At Superbooth 2024 we met up with Urs Heckmann of* U-He*, and he told us about the progress of varous products, some of which are ready, and some which are in the pipeline. He started by showing us Zebralette*, which now gets a dark mode, which is good for people who don't want to strain their eyes. *Zebralette *is still a work in progress, but Urs said he hoped the next beta of *Zebralette wouldn't be too far away now.
Urs also showed us an oscilloscope, which is also still in progress, and is similar to the oscilloscope in *Hive*, but as a stand alone app, with zoom, freeze and you can zoom down to a single cycle, and even down to sample level. You can save what you see as a wave file, which promises to be very useful.

This is the latest iteration of the DAW from Reason Studios, and it's packing some serious enhancements. This version promises to revolutionize your workflow with a completely revamped browser, an array of new Rack devices, and a treasure trove of patches, samples, and loops. There is a new 2 oscillator synth, *Polytone*, which is designed as the go-to for classic synth sounds, and has randomizer function with which Mattias demonstrated some delicious clangerous sounds. The interface and sequencer have been meticulously redesigned for a smoother, more intuitive experience, allowing you to focus purely on your creative flow.
Reason 13 now includes a unified browser for easy access to patches, samples, and loops with enhanced filtering options. This module, which has been in development for about three years, combines EQ, delay, reverb, and a knob recorder in a compact 12 HP unit. Inspired by the dub Echo machines of old, *Jason aimed to replicate the unique sound he experienced in studios by bringing the Echo back through the desk and EQing it to create a feedback loop that adds character and depth to the sound.
The Echo Cinematic features a range of filter options including low pass, high pass, peak, notch, and comb filters, providing users with a versatile array of sonic possibilities. With fully syncable delay times, a built-in reverb, and a knob recorder for capturing performances, this module offers is ideal for creating those classic, almost out of control dub delays.

One of the highlights from the interview was the Candy Cloud - an experimental synthesizer designed for both children and adults. With its unique delay and satisfying cherry knobs, users can explore a range of sounds from cinematic to droney or pulsing. It has an instrument input so it can also be used as an FX processor.
The interview also touched upon other intriguing products, such as the Ballerina and Brinta.
