Meditation No. 3 - Behringer Deepmind 12, MFB Tanzmaus

Published on Jan 18, 2017 Cave Way

"Snow

Recently picked up the Deepmind, and I thought I'd layer it up over a piano riff that makes me think of snow. First impressions on the Deepmind its awesome at pads, sound FX, and brass. For the pads you literally just need to hit 1 key and the synth blasts off into outer space. I will dive into more sounds shortly. More videos to come....

And how about that Tanzmaus? It kicks!"

Low Gain Electronics Shortbus V.2 Eurorack Module

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Short Bus is a seven input OR combiner. Aside from its new facelift (.060" powder coated steel panel) it has newly upgraded toggle switches which allow you to easily select one of three options, two dedicated bus outputs (labeled A and B) or you can select the 'Off' position. The Short Bus allows for easy mixing of gate, trigger, and clock signals. You can 'mix' CV with the Short Bus, however all negative voltages will be ignored. High voltage at the inputs takes priority and voltages are not 'Summed'. The OR combiner diodes have been upgraded to allow for lower voltage drops. Forward voltage drop average is now around .18V instead of .7V."

"The Tidal Wave is in first line a sound processor with waveshaper, filter and VCA but on the other hand a synth voice. A flexible VC-Mix/crossfader section with is used to create comb filter effects. A VC-LFO and an autotrigger envelope plus an internal modulation buss are used for CV routing with interesting opposite going modulations. All sections of the module can be used individually."

"Demo of E-MU Emulator 3 EIII Sequencer track from news channel"

Worth the wait.

via this auction

"We are selling our E-MU Emulator. It works, and appears to have been owned by a television station in its past. The sequencer has music from news segments and olympic coverage programmed. It has quite a few classic E-MU sounds saved in its banks including some nice strings, drums, electric guitars, and entire bank of dogs barking and panting.

It turns on, boots up, and plays. I have not tried to use the floppy drive, but it makes noise and the light flashes. The contrast knob is missing, but can be easily turned without the knob attached. There is some faint digital noise when it is on at higher volumes. It has not been restored, but it has been well cared for."

Arp Axxe SN 040

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Own a piece of synthesizer history!! For sale is a clean condition Arp Axxe synth! Great analog mono synth with one oscillator and very similar to the Arp Odyssey.

It is a very clean board with very few marks on the body. Wood side panels in great condition for its age and corner shown in picture shows the general light wear on all 8 corners and may be able to be cleaned up with a wood conditioner of some sort. Very close to collector's condition cosmetically. Half of the keys are yellowed due to the age of the board.

All notes play, and most of the controls work but the ADSR circuit will need repair. However, great refurb kits are available here on eBay and I don't want to do the repair myself. I'm positive the refurb kits will restore this synth to factory values to produce even better sounds than it does now as well as more precise control over the filtering and tonal sections.

Price reflects the condition of this board, and any experienced tech will be able to bring this board back to studio quality in no time!"

Published on Jan 18, 2017 Brian Comnes

"Add CV to Alesis ModFX Bitrman. BEcause internal voltages are 0-3VDC, I had to add a simple voltage divider to reduce the sent voltage not to exceed 3 volts. Very simple with a 10K resistor on the + pole jooined by a 15K resistor from the negative pole. Then detach the center pins of the two pots for Bitr and Phasor and rout in the external voltage. Quite simple actually. Enjoy!! Sorry for low volume audio."

Update:

And the UI was created by her. :)

According to CDM:

"In place of drab text menus or something like that, the new Teenage Engineering PO-32 Tonic is … a little different. There are adorable characters with wide eyes and huge noses, quaffing cocktails. There’s a ringing telephone … with a mouse perhaps gnawing away at its end. There are spiders – various spiders.

No, I don’t mean the UI on the PO-32 display seems like it was drawn by a 9-year-old girl. It actually was.

Her name is Ivana, she really is nine years old, and she’s the daughter of Teenage Engineering CEO and founder (and whiz designer himself) Jesper Kouthoofd. And in pictures provided exclusively to CDM, we have proof that she designed the display. Talk about landing your dream job in the musical instruments industry early.

I think her creation is genius. And she probably sets some kind of record here."

Ciat-Lonbarde Sidrax Organ

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Sidrax Organ follows a lineage of electronic musical instruments based on touch. It was redesigned twice, first as Sidrassi, then as Sidrazzi. It has seven wooden bars that you press to express seven oscillators within. Each oscillator has its own fine tuning slider, embedded right within its bar. Also, there is a master pitch knob, and a master chaos knob. The master chaos knob makes the instrument go from pure triangle tones to a nest of noise. It does this by gradually increasing modulation from one oscillator to the next in a circular pattern. Sidrax has enough bars to construct sweetest melodies from the triangle waves, whereas Tetrax is a simple four-bar entity, with complexity of tone for funky bass.

There are 44 modulation points brought forth as banana jacks. They are arranged in seven columns, representing the seven bars. Their layout is shifted diagonally, to allow inputs in proximity to outputs. This is for touch-playability; you can make banana jack metal studs that can be squished by hand to gesture-patch the instrument. Inputs are cool colors: blue, green, and grey. Outputs are hot colors: red and orange. The grey jacks are parallel inputs with the master knobs: the one on the left is for master pitch, the right one is master chaos. The color allotment for each bar is as follows:

Two orange jacks, representing the press and release gestures on that bar in voltage.
One red jack, which is the pure triangle output of that oscillator.
Two green jacks, that are "glitch" inputs. They cause the boundary conditions of each oscillator to wire to the output of another. A modulation inspired by circuit bending.
One blue jack, an fm modulation input for that oscillator.
The Sidrax organ has a stereo-mini output on the back. This is because each bar, outputs in different channels during the press/release cycle. In addition to the stereo-mini jack, it has an power switch, and optional built-in batteries, or an external, 9volt battery snap."

- Both Synth Engines are fully automatable in Ableton Live with the MaxforLive version

- Copy / Paste for the Macro Elements

- Drum Control has been added

- Patch Management has been much improved

- An intelligent Randomiser Function"

P.S. You might remember mention of the new editor from this post.

Additional details including price:

"RELEASE DATE: WEDNESDAY 18th JANUARY

PRICE: £10.00

It's been over a year since we visited Novations headquarters to be first introduced to the Circuit in their development room, this little beast of a Groovebox has gone from strength to strength in the past twelve months growing an avid legion of new fans who have helped the development of the instrument through the Facebook Circuit Owners Group...

We've seen Novation get involved in this group of fans to their credit and it was an honour to be chosen to develop and supply the official Novation Circuit Editor! Now that Novation have released the fourth firmware update, we felt it was time to do the same with our Editor. And so after a few hundred hours more of development time we're delighted to be able to release the Circuit Editor PRO!

Rebuilt from the ground up we've massively improved response times and allowed automation of both synths through Ableton Live via the MaxforLive version. In working with the new Editor Engine we've been able to incorporate the top user requests that we've been collating as well!
