Africa's first Home made Modular Synth

Published on Jan 14, 2019 TheDIYer

"A few months ago I dipped my feet into the world of modular synths. The entire African continent has only one shop selling Euro rack modules which is really sad. Also, Euro rack modules are overly priced for someone in my context. My only option was to go the DIY route. I looked up schematics and started modifying some circuits and building others from scratch. All parts in my modular were sourced locally. In a few months I have learnt so much about electronics and analog synths and I have built what is an almost decent modular synth. I believe this is Africa's first home made modular synth. I hope this video inspires someone out there to build their own synth." www.bamanyabrian.com

Plugin Alliance Announces a New Product Line of Virtual Instruments

"SANTA CRUZ, CA, USA: as the music, sound, and event technology communities collectively unite in making their final approach for landing at The 2019 NAMM Show in Southern California, January 24-27, Plugin Alliance is proud to announce its approaching entry into new space with welcomed Virtual Instruments (VIs) that are all set to turn heads and open ears when released into the wider world…

With 10 years spent successfully crafting professional plugins for mixing and mastering as well as guitar and bass amplifiers under its collective belt, Brainworx will soon be leading Plugin Alliance into a brave new world of professional VIs with its first software synthesizer, applying the same modeling know-how and proprietary, patent-pending Tolerance Modeling Technology (TMT) that was first used on its industry-leading pro audio plugins like the bx_console N, bx_console SSL 4000 E, and bx_console SSL 4000 G channel strips — the latter two being officially approved by Solid State Logic itself — or HG-2, a mastering-grade tube saturation and harmonics plugin perfected in close collaboration with premier Plugin Alliance partner Black Box Analog Design.

Duly announcing its approaching entry into the VI market with a Brainworx bang, both established and newfound third-party Plugin Alliance partners are also all set to release equally exciting VIs of their own in what will positively prove to be an exciting era for sound design-savvy synthesists and songwriters alike.

As such, surely Brainworx Audio Director of Product Management Christian Diehl is perfectly qualified to put this thrilling announcement into its rightful context right here, right now: “I’m very proud to be part of the team that successfully applied Brainworx’s expertise, knowledge, and skills to start a new product line featuring accurately modeled synthesizers with unique elements like our proven and popular TMT functionality. We are very excited about also being able to team up with DS Audio and Unfiltered Audio to make this a very attractive start to an exciting new product line for Plugin Alliance customers.”

Clearly, then, Plugin Alliance is on a visionary mission to reach out to both new and current customers with its impending VI product line. In it for the long haul, more announcements are on the (event) horizon in what promises to be an exciting trip; time to get ready to set your controls for the heart of the sound!"

Rare Waves Hydronium: DIY acid synth

Published on Jan 17, 2019 EA78751

"Rare Waves Hydronium is an excellent synth DIY kit for electronic music producers. This is a great-sounding acid synth with both MIDI and CV-Gate control! Available now in tabletop format, and Eurorack format is coming soon. Its available direct from rarewaves.net

This video demo shows different sounds from three Hydroniums playing simultaneously. We patched a distortion pedal into the effects loop of the blue one, to get some classic gritty acid tones. And there is some extra help from two external LFOs, which are used to animate the filter and get PWM tones from the yellow Hydronium."

"Ever wanted a PPG in a compact size and affordable price? Well this is for you. MicroWave is a direct successor of PPG Wave 2.2. It was made by Waldorf right after they took over PPG--thus it uses the identical wavetable technology which was used in PPG Wave 2.2. It is one hell of a synth!...

MicroWave Rev. A is worth more than other MicroWaves because it uses the Curtis 3389 chip, and a fantastic analog filter. All of the other MicroWaves are full-digital synth (which doesn't mean they are bad synths of course), as opposed to Rev. A which is a hybrid synth."

"The Techno Synth Construction Yard expansion ROM was created by legendary Dutch sound designer Rob Papen and EMU for a 32MB compilation of powerful synth, techno, and ambient sounds. These presets go beyond mere samples of analog synths - they have been constructed and mutated to use every ounce of EMU's powerful synthesizer, effects, and filter architecture. The result is a unique collection of analog and digital sounds, from atmospheric pads to punchy basses to crunchy drums.

BONUS - this includes the original user guide booklet, which is very rare and seldom included with units sold on eBay! The booklet contains valuable information on the instrument samples, presets, patch controls, filters, etc., and will help you get much more out of the available sounds. Factory installation instructions are also included."

Synthesizers.com & ASR 10 Practice Session

Published on Jan 17, 2019 The Daydream Sound

"Took about 3 years to commit to the Synthesizers.com Modular synthesizer. I didn’t really know about 5U modular systems as all the rave back then was (and continues to be) around eurorack modular instruments. To be transparent the purchasing experience wasn’t the best. Even though I bought it new, I received it in the mail in less than stellar condition. I was pretty cheesed at the time about that.

Aside from that it’s a great sounding synth. There’s only one oscillator in use in the video which is being sent to and modulated by the ladder filter module and shaped by a single envelope generator. As far as modular goes; I always wanted a straight ahead traditional analog synthesizer and this fits the bill to a tee. I think if you’re beginning as a synthesizer or sampler enthusiast an analog modular synthesizer is a great instrument to work on to understand the principles of synthesis and how to bend sounds in a way that are artistically pleasing

Anyway onto other things. This is a practice session with the Ensoniq ASR 10 as the sequencer, FX and percussion sampler and the Synthesizer.com modular system on the……. well……. on the analog stuff."

Cumberland, RI USA (January 17, 2019) — Akai Professional, a leading manufacturer of music equipment for performers and producers, today announced the release of its new standalone Force music production/DJ performance device, with clip launching, step sequencing, sampling, synths and a 7-inch multi-touch display. Force is designed for the user who wants a standalone product with the latest in modern workflow techniques, free from being connected to the computer. Force is the first standalone music production device that truly captures the modern clip-based workflow.
