Arduino 8x8 Gate Sequencer Rhythm Pattern Generator with Two Rotary Encoders and OLED Display

video upload by Unrelated Activities

"An 8x8 sequencer, very basic in its features. The interface is composed of two rotary encoders with switch, and a 128x64 I2C OLED display. The display presents an eight rows x eight columns grid, rows are steps, columns are tracks. Encoders are used to navigate through the grid coordinates.
The X encoder switch selects Cursor or Write mode, in Cursor mode an 'x' is shown on the grid and a 0 is written in the selected slot in a bi-dimensional array, in Write mode a filled square is drawn on the grid and a 1 is written in the selected slot in the array.
The encoder Y switch has three modes: Edit, Tempo, and Play. In Edit mode the sequencer pattern can be created, in Tempo mode the Y encoder sets the sequencer BPM (Beats Per Minute), in Play it plays the pattern.
The right side of the display shows the BPM and the current mode, the left side shows a rectangle indicating which step is being played.
Each track fires a gate using eight Arduino pins (0 - 4.7V) and also sends MIDI notes through TX pin (channel 10, GM drum notes 35, 38, 42, 46, 45, 50, 64, 76). It works, but the display is too small for my eyes...
Schematic in the video, Arduino code in a pinned comment."

"Selling my beloved Prophet T8 after many years of great recordings and cared use. This was serviced a few years ago by one of the best western Canadian synth technicians. Its fully function and the keybed has felt replacement recently and it feels great. Lots of information on the net about this amazing synthesizer. Its midi functionality is great and I used this as my main controller for my DAW instruments and other synths with midi. The built in real-time sequencer is amazing! Poly After touch, 8 Voice, Velovity envelope control! Its been called the Rolls Royce of Synths in the book 'A to Z of Analogue Synths' by Peter Forrest.

Its in excellent shape, some little dings and scratches on the metal here and there. Was like that when I got it. Its lived in my studio since purchasing over 10 years ago." [posted here]

This unit is in good cosmetic shape with just a few scratches (mainly the one in the final picture seen above). Functionally, it all works, except the Attack sound (short adjustable burst of noise at the top of the note) does not fire on Tom 3... the Attack works fine on all other drum channels. Other than that, it is fully tested and functional."

Z-DSP | 10 years later | Stereo Echo | Filter | Mod | Pitch

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"The Z-DSP was one of my first modules and ten years later it's still going strong. It inspired many SPIN FV-1 powered effects modules, being FX-AID as the most succesful module so far. But can it compete with Z-DSP? Sure. It beats the big white/black module on price, size, algorithm count and the free algorithm catalog that covers any effect. But - imho - the Z-DSP algorithms are better and it offers a powerful feedback design. It's built to last another 10 years. I asked myself the question, 'isn't the chip getting old?'. Listening to the new TTA Stereo Bundle, i'd say no. But don't take my word for it. This is one of the longest videos I made so far. With a few exceptions here and there, this journey has been an adventure."

SPROOM - Multi Effect Engine for Eurorack Synthesizer

video upload by NoisyFruitsLab

"Sproom, half space half room.

It´s based on the FV-1 DSP IC by Spin Semiconductor which got popular with some famous guitar pedal effects and is covering all types of quality reverbs, delays, chorus, flangers, tremolos, or combinations of them.

It´s stereo and operates with 6 MIPS at Fs=48KHz, or in other words excellent audio quality with a clean dry / wet path to adjust the amount of effecting.

It offers 3 banks with each having 8 different algorithms. In total 24 effects.

The input is normalized to R. Means with just plugging a mono source into the left input, the output becomes stereo.

Each algorithm can be controlled with one of the 3 potentiometers, or by conrol voltage.

Capable of -5 / +5V with the dedicated pot at around center position, or 0-10V with the pot fully closed. In other words, the pot acts as offset.

LED indication for clipping and CV ins.

The internal effects are tied to the IC and fixed. Bank 2 & 3 or EXT1 & EXT2 can be exchanged with EEPROMS on the backside.

Check into noisyfruitslab.com for the provided list of algos."

Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge - First Contact (with text typos)

video upload by SynthAddict

"Arecibo Answered - The end of the Fermi Paradox (if aliens landed/contacted us) :-)

NI Maschine+ and Moog Theremini (difficult to play with gear interference) Familiar intro to 'famous' aliens, quickly turns dark, as I’m sure plenty of aliens would enjoy some dark/creepy/moody music. :-)

The Arecibo messaage contains a few prime numbers and one semiprime.
semiprime =1679 bits long (210 bytes)

23 rows in the transmission
73 columns in the transmission
*for my jam I tripled the 23 to get 69 as my global jam tempo*

The other 6 are samples per note from a Crumar EVI.

All made for wind synth.

Sequential Trigon 6 - GEOSynths Synthesizer Review

Sequential Prophet 5 + 10 INHALT Factory Continuum Patches Demo

video upload by INHALTVIDEO

"Instant download of these patches here:
https://inhalt.bigcartel.com/product/...
2023 marks the 10 year anniversary of my sound design employment with Sequential. To commemorate this occasion I created a very special library for my favorite analog synth-the Prophet 5. Of all the Sequential synthesizers I've worked on, I feel like the factory patches I made for the Rev4 are most exhibitive of the INHALT sound (particularly patch 1 of the factory bank).

Following in the footsteps of the factory patches I made that ship with the Rev4, I decided to develop this continuation add-on library: "Factory Continuum". What's presented is a full group of 40 patches in the definitive INHALT style of usability and elegance. Basses that sit seamlessly against a kick drum, deep pads and strings, a plethora of classic and cinematic suspense patches and even some drums for good measure. They all have that special sound that only the Prophet 5 (and 10) is capable of delivering and many take advantage of the added velocity and aftertouch controls for ultimate playability.

This patch library overwrites group 5 of the preset banks so if you have patches saved there, make sure to back them up before sending this library to your synth. All of the patches are compatible with both the Prophet 5 and 10 Rev4. This is an instant download."

Boris from Joranalogue Spills Patching Secrets! See what he Revealed at Perfect Circuit

video upload by Perfect Circuit

"Boris from Joranalogue came by to reveal the shocking truth: as it turns out, you can make some pretty sick beats with a modular synthesizer.

Joranalogue's unique approach to synthesizer design leaves a lot open to the performer's imagination. Rather than building straightforward, conventional sound sources, controllers, or processors, they instead make highly multi-functional modules that can cover a lot of different ground in any given patch. While that can be inspiring for some, it might be intimidating for others...but luckily, Boris is here to show us the way.

In this demo, Boris shows how a number of their modules can interact to create everything from evolving sound design to high-controlled rhythms and beyond. If you're into super powerful, performable modular synths—and hey, who isn't?—then you're gonna want to take a long hard look at what Joranalogue is doing.

This Is A Test - The Wizard's Hand prototype - ambient energy to cv translator

video upload by Mountainking Electronics

"The Wizard's Hand is part of a group of designs called bio-intergration interface devices. These devices have come about as a result of my ongoing search for not only new ways of using our physical bodies to control and effect electronic musical instruments but also finding ways to tap into and use the ambient energy fields that surround our bodies to influence these instruments.

The Wizard's Hand works by sensing the effects our bodies have on the surrounding electrical and electro-magnetic energy fields and translating those effects into a varying control voltage. It is an organic device who's sensitivity and effects can change from day today, place to place, person to person, etc, etc. The user needs to learn to "feel" the energy fields surrounding the Wizard's Hand through the use of intuition to "lock in" on these subtle energies and gain better manipulative powers over them.

In the video the Wizard's Hand is plugged into the pitch cv input on a VCO. There is a toggle switch that switches the signal at the OUTPUT jack from the Wizard's Hand circuit to the EXT IN jack. With nothing plugged into the EXT IN jack moving the switch to the EXT position allows you to instantly disconnect the Wizard's Hand from whatever you have it interfaced to. This is demonstrated in the very beginning of the video. The Wizard's Hand has two knobs, one called SLEW, this adjust a "glide" or "portamento" type circuit which the control voltage that comes from the Wizard's Hand is sent through. There is also an OUTPUT knob, this allows you to attenuate the CV signal that is available at the OUTPUT jack when the accompanying toggle switch is in the W.H. position. There is also a toggle switch that allows you to limit the maximum cv level to 5v dc. Lastly, there is aì toggle switch that allows you to switch between the Wizard's Hand putting out a varying control voltage or an on/off gate signal.

The Wizard's Hand is an experimental device and as such will require more testing before the circuit is finalized.

If you would like to purchase the Wizard's Hand or have any questions please email me:

"KSR have carried out a service on this Xpander in February 2023.

Remarks: Much has been written on these incredible synthesizers and it's understandable when you use them as they really can deliver a thick analogue wall of sound, and are perfect pad and brass sources just for starters.

The Xpander lineage includes the Matrix 6 and 12 and is a fully midi configured, 6 voice Polysynth - an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. he Xpander offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user-friendly hands-on preset machine. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid-1980s.

This example is a USA built unit that works perfectly, and as mentioned above, has just been fully serviced by KSR. The cosmetic condition is excellent, as you can see from the pictures below, with only minimal wear and marks to the painted surfaces."

"A beautiful condition Roland Jupiter 8 (12bit model) - Serial Number: 161512, which has been retrofitted with a Groove MIDI kit.

We are always very happy to sell any Jupiter 8 and this one is an excellent representative example that has MIDI as well. What can we say that hasn’t already been written about the JP8…honestly, nothing new. However, we’ve seen relative values for this flagship vintage analogy poly-synth climb sharply in recent years, so they’ve become unaffordable to most people, which is a real shame.

The overall condition is excellent, with far less than he normal amount of wear we would expect to see on a synth this age, so this example has been very well cared for throughout its existence. The photos below tell the story, but even the base of this JP8 is in great shape."

5 "complex oscillator" tricks with the 258t & 257t - Buchla & Tiptop Audio

video upload by Stazma

"Support on Patreon to get samples from this session: https://www.patreon.com/join/stazma

Since the Buchla and Tiptop modules are in Eurorack format, there is now no separation between audio and control voltages like the 4U Buchla modules. So this let us (ab)use some of those modules to perform tasks they were not supposed to perform.

In this video I'll use the 257t, that is supposed to handle control voltages, to process audio rate signal only, combined with the 258t Dual VCO, to create some sort of a complex oscillator; or anyway something inspired by the modulation bus of the 259 module."

Roland Super JX-10 Original Factory Patches Demo - With Ibanez SDR-1000 - Mozart Rondo Alla Turca

video upload by WayneJoness

"Original Factory Patches from the Roland Super JX-10. I recorded this in 1986 using my Roland JX-10 with the Ibanez SDR-1000 stereo reverb. I sequenced Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca using Voyetra's Sequencer Plus. On playback I randomly switched different patches on the JX-10 and SDR-1000, going directly to cassette tape. I edited some of the beginning as I did not start changing the patches until a bit of a way into the piece. I am amazed at how expression the JX-10 is, responding only to changes in key velocity.

These are dual, layered patches. You can really hear the stereo sound, and the Ibanez SDR-1000 was a true stereo reverb with an independent reverb for the left and right channels. You can also hear some of the non-linear patches from the SDR-1000 like gated reverb."

Tera Pro BrainZ Tour

video upload by boxoftextures

"So I was planning to do a Tera Pro video this week just, well, just because. There were a good number of things that took me a while to either figure out, or perhaps just to notice, so I've been thinking of doing not a demo and not a tutorial, but more of a tour. But then they released the BrainZ module as an add-on, based on the Mutable Instruments Plaits module, that you can add to Tera Pro. So I did a tour of the basics of the BrainZ module instead, and I'll do a more general tour at a later date.

So the good part is that BrainZ adds a ton of options to Tera Pro. It's got 16 different synth models, and a good number of controls for them. Basically I set up an 8-step sequence and let it run while I went through each of the different models. So, true confession, I recorded the video, edited it, put in the labels, and only when it was more or less done was when I realized I'd gone through the models row by row, whereas the manual goes through one column and then down the next. Totally my fault! And hopefully I'm not going to confuse everyone. At least I noticed and was able to change the labels so they'd be correct. But to make matters worse, I skipped one! (15. Analog Snare Drum Model.) No idea why, but thankfully at least the one I skipped I used in my demo patch, so you at least get to hear it. Honestly I was wondering what all those crazy icons meant, and it turns out they make sense, and some of them are related to each other (the drum ones, for instance). So remember kids, read the manual first and then make your video.

Note that there's a lot more capability in BrainZ than I've shown here as I've only done some basic modulation. There's more in it than I've shown.

I totally recommend Tera Pro, and I have both of the optional add-ons (the other one being the Waves wavetable module). Once you wrap your head around the perhaps slightly unusual user interface it makes a lot of sense, and making your own patches can be very rewarding once you've gotten comfortable with it.

Synthesis Technology E352 Cloud Terrarium VCO Eurorack Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Synthesis Technology E352 combines the latest 200MHz 32-bit ARM DSP with SynthTech's Cloud and Morphing algorithms found in the legendary E340 Cloud Generator and the E350 Morphing Terrarium.

The VCO is based upon a unique implementation of wavetable synthesis using 256 fixed-sample-length tables of 16-bit values. Each bank in memory consists of 64 wavetables, in an 8x8 array (like a chessboard). The proprietary DSP algorithms then allow either smooth or 'glitched' morphing between the wavetables in various ways. The E352 comes with 3 factory banks (192 total waves) and internal FLASH memory to hold 26 user-defined banks. This allows over 1,650 individual wavetables to be accessible. The free, cross-platform WaveEdit program is used to generate and import WAV files to user Banks.

Each VCO has 3 CV inputs (called Parameters or PARMs) which the VCO mode assigns to functions within that algorithm. In addition, there is a hard SYNC input, and the FM can be set to exponential or 3 ranges of TZFM (Thru-Zero FM)."

Separated | Roland JD-800 ambient soundscape improvisation

video upload by MIDERA

"Another round with the Roland JD-800 . Someone recommended that I try making a sound and copying it to the other 3 parts and using an LFO on the filter and adjusting the individual LFOs per part. That’s basically what this patch is.

I’m not sure if this is growing on me yet or not. I think I have the basic navigation down and I’m liking it. Again, I compare it to the D50 and I feel it just doesn’t quite have the character or charm that the D50 has. And I must admit I really like the D50’s filter and FX section. I really love the Chorus in the D50 quite a bit. And why is the ‘chase’ function missing? Why’d Roland get rid of that? It was pretty nice and fun to use.

That said, I’m starting to like the tones I’m getting out of this. I made a few other patches as well that I really liked, although I didn’t record them here.

If you have other suggestions on how to use this thing, I have so far found the internet to be somewhat quiet on the JD-800. I don’t know why that is. The D50 is everywhere, so are the other Roland synths. But for the JD-800, I just am not seeing much of anything, apart from a few posts here and there about people wanting to sell theirs."

'Moonlight Sonata' - Eurorack Modular Rendition

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
#modular #eurorack #moonlightsonata

This time around all sounds that are being heard, come from the modular system, but the entire sequence is comprised of 4 monophonic MIDI tracks inside of Ableton. Each of the tracks has a CV Instrument plugin from the CV tools package. I am using my Expert Sleepers ES-9, which is a DC-coupled interface, which allows me to send clock data, CV, and Gate outputs directly from Ableton into eurorack modular without a need of a MIDI interface. I am using 4 monophonic tracks because the interface has 8 DC-coupled outputs, which are being used as follows:
1- Gate for melody track 1
The first gate out is going into the first input on the Ornament & Crime Digital Multi-function module in 4 x EG mode, which gives it 4 variable-clock envelope generators with a visual oscilloscope. From there, gate output from o_C goes into Mutable Instruments Plaits as a trigger input. The output of plaits goes through the first channel of Qu-Bit Tone for filtering, and then into the first channel on a quad VCA, and then into the first audio output on the ES-9.
2- Pitch/CV for melody track 1
The first pitch/CV out is going into the 1V/Oct input on the Mutable Instruments Plaits, to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s first monophonic track.
3- Gate from melody track 2
The 2nd gate out is going into the Ornament & Crime’s (o_C) second envelope generator. Then it goes into the Strum input on the Mutable Instruments Rings, which is the 2nd oscillator in this patch. From Rings we have the identical signal patch as on the first track, but on the 2nd channel of each subsequent module. (Filter → VCA → Out)
4- Pitch/CV for melody track 2
The second pitch/CV out is going into the 1V/Oct input on the Mutable Instruments Rings, to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s second monophonic track.
5- Gate for melody track 3
The 3rd gate out is going into the Ornament & Crime’s (o_C) second envelope generator. Then it goes into the CV input on 3rd channel of my VCA: Mutable Instruments Veils. Then it goes right into the audio output 3 on the ES-9.
6- Pitch/CV for melody track 3
The third pitch/CV out is going into the 1V/Oct input on the Instruō Cš-L (Dual Complex Oscillator), to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s third monophonic track.
7- Gate for melody track 4
The 4th gate out is going into the Ornament & Crime’s (o_C) second envelope generator. Then it goes into the CV input on the 4th channel of my VCA: Mutable Instruments Veils. Then it goes right into the audio output 4 on the ES-9.
8- Pitch/CV for melody track 4
The fourth pitch/CV out is going into the second channel’s 1V/Oct input on the Instruō Cš-L (Dual Complex Oscillator), to control the pitch of it, directly from Ableton’s third monophonic track.

Now we get into the surround and miscellaneous modulations, which control the piece’s stereo movement, giving it spaciousness and an emotional feel. The output from Mutable Instruments Plaits is split, the first route is going just like it is described in the first 2 points above. The split output is going into the Mutable Instruments Clouds (which is being heavily modulated by the Divkid øchd module (8 drifting LFO). And then from there, it is going stereo l/r out into the ES-9s extra inputs. The Rings output follows the same convention, as it is also being split, but it on the other hand goes through Instruō Arbhar, and then into Instruō Lúbadh for additional processing. The stereo output from Arbhar is going into the ES-9, and one of the outputs from there is being split to also go into the Lúbadh. (Arbhar is a granular processor, and Lúbadh is a digital 2-track reel-to-reel tape machine)

Additional multi-band compression, EQ, and Limiting are done in the post inside of Ableton on the Bus level to minimize the unnecessarily large amount of processing, for a clear modular tonality.

'Filter on Filter' Jam: Ladder into Fixed Filter Bank 914 & Lunar Module 'Bit-crushing' Drum Sounds

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"Minimal Synth & Percussion Jam: 3 VCO's into Ladder Filter, then Fixed Filter Bank 914, with DH-ADSR envelope control over mix of both filters. Also down-sampling/bit-reduction effect using the Lunar Module to crunch then distort incoming audio/drum pattern from an iOS app (Patterning 1).

The classic Moog Modular-based Fixed Filter Bank 914 totally transforms the sonic character of the output from the Minimoog-based 24dB low pass VCF, creating a vocal/choir timbre, which is fed 3 sawtooth waves, each with their own LFO/modulation. The envelope automates the FFB module's built-in mixer, morphing the sound from just the Ladder VCF, to the Ladder through the Fixed Filter Bank. The Lunar Module is great for taking a too-hi-fi sound and giving it some lo-fi character, with optional crunchy distortion, making it sit more comfortably alongside it's analogue Eurorack neighbours. Old-school, vintage-voiced sounds and circuitry FTW.

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.

Check out the AJH Synth playlists for module 'User Guides', and 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides, detailing functions/methods, and a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, containing a patch sheet at the end to show you how to construct it for yourself.

"This is the THE rarest Synthesizer Yamaha ever made.

It’s existence was doubted for a long time. There are a very few people who have even seen a real picture of it.

And here it is:
ITS REAL! Fully working, excellent condition and great sounding!

„The Yamaha AVX1 is a super rare MIDI-compatible AWM Voice Expander that comprise the expanded system of the HX Series Electone. An FM expander was also available: the Yamaha FVX1. The AVX1 is based on Yamaha's advanced wave memory (AWM) engine, which combines and filters sampled sounds to create voices, that would later power the SY line of synthesizers.

The AVX1 doesn't have onboard samples, but uses external swappable ROM cards made specifically for the HX Series Electone. Up to eight of these cartridges can be inserted in a special drawer. Then it's possible to either play a single tone with 16 notes of polyphony or two of them layered with 8 notes of polyphony each. There are 16 performance slots available to save layer combinations.

Similarly to what is offered on the DMP7 and DMP11, the onboard mixers also has additional effects available: Stereo-Chorus, Stereo-Pan, Symphonic, Phaser, Flanger, Delay, Tremolo, Digital hall, Celeste and Wah.„

- 110V unit.

This is a real collector’s item. And a must have for Yamaha enthusiasts!"
