Update: re-listed here.

"This is one amazing and RARE device. it can interface with other Banana I/O modular synths and can be used in a number of different configurations.
The wooded touch plates are very responsive and the ribbon strip is solid and smooth to the touch.

About this device.

7 VCO analog Banana I/O modular synth Qin has a single pressure sensitive ribbon, with pressure controlling the timber - the harder you press, more “clean” the timber will be, which is somewhat similar to the response of an acoustic stringed instrument - if you loose the pressure, the strings will hit the frets and buzz.
The position on the ribbon controls pitch, with practice, you can play the Sidrassi as any fretless instrument, with vibrato and pitch sliding!

For pitch setting of each voice, I use high quality 10 turn potentiometers and lockable knobs. So you can set the pitch relations of each voice with total precision.

Signals on the patch bay are : gesture output, squarewave output, FM input, glitch input.

I’ve built a few pieces of this and each one is a bit different.
This is one of my most welcomed series of works.

Here is an album with the 1st Sidrassi Qin as the solely sound source. By Asteroid Anxiety"

Softube Introduces Heartbeat - Innovative Software Drum Synth

"Softube sets pulses racing with innovative software drum synth in major musical move

LINKÖPING, SWEDEN: in a major musical move, Swedish high-end software developer Softube set pulses racing when showcasing Heartbeat — its innovative software drum synth with comfortably familiar, yet special sound characteristics — at Musikmesse 2015, April 15-18 in Frankfurt, Germany...

Come its scheduled summertime release date, however, Heartbeat is likely to cause severe palpitations! Why? Well, by bringing back classic drum synthesis with a vengeance, Heartbeat harkens back to yesteryear’s much-loved modeled analog synthesis approach, but brings a wealth of forward-thinking features and flexibility to bare on what could well be the ultimate dream drum synth software solution suited to satisfying (almost) anyone’s beat-making needs! Now if that still sounds like a tall order... read on!

So what makes Heartbeat so special? Well, while it draws its inspiration from the best Eighties-vintage analog drum machines, it does not emulate any existing drum machine. The superlative sound beating at its rhythmical heart mostly originates from Softube’s proprietary analog-modeled synthesis engines, engineered to drive the resulting rhythms to wherever the user wishes to take them.

The core consists of eight individual instrument channels. Here Heartbeat users will find two different bass drum channels (BASS DRUM 1 and BASS DRUM 2) — perfect for producing punchy, deep kicks, but also perfectly capable of creating snappy and hard-hitting woody textures. Tonal adjustments abound, with several dedicated controls for both BASS DRUM 1 (DECAY, ATTACK, ATTACK TYPE, PITCH, BEND, and HARMONICS) and BASS DRUM 2 (DECAY, ATTACK, PITCH, and HARMONICS) positioned directly above their associated channels. The two dedicated snare drum channels (SNARE/RIM SHOT and SNARE/CLAP) have several identical parameters associated with each of them — WAVE SYNTH sliders, plus two TYPE, PITCH, and DECAY controls — to achieve anything from edgy rimshots, soft and whispery snare rolls, to machine-like claps. Correspondingly, those same flexible parameters are also available for the adjacent HIHATS channel. Time to applaud those proprietary analog-modeled synthesis engines, perhaps? Feel free to rev them to your beat-making heart’s content! Continuing our eastward instrument channel journey, the two percussion channels (PERC 1 and PERC 2) are identical, and can be used to model Eighties-style toms to cowbells and (almost) anything in- between, thanks to their flexible controls — simply select the MODE (from SINGLE, DUAL, FM."

"Rubbery sawtooth sequence showing off VCFs from Super Synthesis"

via Super Synthesis

"VCFs from Super Synthesis is a dual voltage-controlled State Variable Filter in Eurorack format. Each filter has 1 signal input, 2 control voltage inputs with one attenuverter, and 3 signal outputs: Lowpass, Highpass, and Bandpass.

When the resonance control is turned fully clockwise, the filter will self-oscillate, yielding a sine wave on the three outputs, 90 degrees out of phase with each other. The non attenuating CV input and bus connections are scaled for 1V per Octave response, so a keyboard or sequencer can provide keyboard tracking, or play the sine waves in tune.

VCFs’ signal inputs are DC coupled, so the filters can process both audio and control voltages. Great for making slewed and resonant envelopes and sequences."

3 Impressions | M. Geddes Gengras - feat. Discontinued Moogerfoogers

"Today Moog Music announces the release of 3 Impressions, a practical application of Moog electronics, produced and composed by M. Geddes Gengras. 3 Impressions is a 3 song EP that serves as an exploration of analog effects modules and process-based sound design. Gengras utilized various Moog analog effects and synths such as the Moog Sub Phatty Analog Synthesizer, MF-104Z Analog Delay, MF-105M MIDI MuRF and a MF-107 Freq Box for the recording.

The announcement of Gengras' EP coincides with Moog Music's announcement of the discontinuation of two of the Moogerfooger analog effects pedals used in the recording: the MF-105M MIDI MuRF (est. 2009) and the MF-107 Freq Box (est. 2007). Moog plans to continue building a limited quantity of units at their factory in downtown Asheville while parts and materials last. The MF-105M and the MF-107 have found their way into countless studios and stage rigs around the world. Users include Arcade Fire, Panda Bear, Dan Deacon, John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Joey Santiago of the Pixies. If you are interested in purchasing one, please visit an authorized Moog dealer.

M. Geddes Gengras' work is described as being 'based in modular synthesis, comfortably straddling a variety of forms and remaining rooted in a deep affinity for the limitations of analog electronics and a keen ear for timbral manipulation.' His extended exploration of the modular inter-connectivity of Moogerfooger analog effects on 3 impressions is a testament to Bob Moog's vision of creative expression through control voltage."

Launchpad for iOS tip #01: Quickly reset all faders on iPad

Published on Apr 29, 2015 Launchpad for iOS

"Launchpad for iOS is an easy to use App for iPhone & iPad
Create & Remix music easily on the go

Launchpad for iPad has eight track Volume and Dual-Filters faders for creating dynamics in your performances.

When performing in a session with many loops, it’s common place to frequently change these faders away from their initial settings. This often leaves you wondering how on earth you’re going to drop the next break quickly, and also get all your levels back to normal.

Fortunately, Launchpad has a great way to solve this problem. Simply open the Volume or Dual-Filter panel by pressing either the VOL or FILT button. Next swipe with your finger horizontally across all eight faders.

Now they all jump to their default settings leaving you ready to drop your next loop, and carry on performing without missing a beat.

KORG SIGMA Analog Synthesizer 1979 | HD DEMO

"(c) 2015 by AnalogAudio1

I played the Korg Sigma with reverb effects from a Yamaha SPX900 and delay effects from an old Korg SDD-3000. In the second half of the video I triggered the Sigma from a Korg Rhythm 55 (KR-55).

The Korg Sigma is a preset monophonic analog synth with aftertouch. You can combine all presets and wave forms. There are 2 lines of tabs which can be seen as 2 VCOs. Joystick with highpass & lowpass filters. Ring modulator, noise generator, CV and gate inputs - great features on this exotic synth. Combine 'till you get it right - that's the way to go on the Korg Sigma."

Excerpts from Mark Mosher "Marooned" Live Textures Ambient Showcase

Published on Apr 28, 2015

https://markmosher.bandcamp.com/album...

"I performed 'Marooned', a my 20-minute cinematic electronic soundscape in 7 movements, on April 26th, 2015 at the Textures Ambient Showcase at the Mutiny Information Cafe in Denver. This is 3m30so video of excerpts from that show shot with a GoPro I had on a bookcase behind me.

Marooned is an original cinematic electronic soundscape. I think of it as a score for a film yet to be made. An Earth ship crashes on a massive moon and the only hope for the crew's survival is making it across a harsh landscape to an alien outpost for a first, and uninvited, encounter.

This soundscape is in the same universe and is a prequel to my alien invasion concept album series Reboot, I Hear Your Signals, and Fear Cannot Save Us. Unlike the first three albums which contained shorter composed and often groove-based songs, this album contains a single long-form recording combining electronic tonalities and abstract expressionist music.

This work is an example of live sonic storytelling and was recorded in one pass (with no prerecorded sequences, overdubs, or edits) after weeks of improvising and rehearsal.
