From Waveshaper Media, the Toronto-based production company behind the pivotal electronic music documentary I Dream Of Wires, seen widely on Netflix, comes Electronic Voyager. Electronic Voyager is a new feature-length documentary on electronic music pioneer Bob Moog – his story recounted through the eyes of his daughter, Michelle Moog-Koussa. In Electronic Voyager, we follow Michelle on an emotional road trip journey across North America and Europe, retracing her father’s groundbreaking footsteps. Michelle’s voyage is an effort to reconcile the father she knew, with the world-famous icon. Michelle’s father is the late Dr. Robert Arthur Moog (1934 - 2005), inventor of the iconic Moog synthesizer. Moog’s archetypal synthesizers defined electronic music in popular culture, and revolutionized the sound of music across genres. The “Moog” brand became, and remains, the “Kleenex” of synthesizers, and a key part of that branding is Bob Moog himself; iconic photos of a young Bob, looking confident, determined, and surrounded by his own inventions, loom large in contemporary Moog Music marketing materials, and at Moogfest, one of North America’s biggest music festivals, dedicated to Bob’s legacy.

Growing up, Michelle had an inkling of her father’s fame, and of the importance of his innovative work, but had no idea of the depth and magnitude of his influence; he was, first and foremost, dad. When Bob passed away in 2005 after a brief fight with cancer, the curtains were pulled back on Michelle’s dad, and at the age of 37, Michelle was introduced to Bob Moog. Thousands of people came forward at that time with testimonies about how Bob’s instruments had inspired them, leaving their lives transformed. Discovering the monumental significance of her father’s life and accomplishments was the turning point for Michelle, and she’s gone on to dedicate her life’s work to preserving and celebrating Bob Moog’s legacy, as founder and Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation.

Electronic Voyager takes the shape of a road-trip journey, where the viewer is looking over Michelle’s shoulder as she travels to the places where Moog history happened, and meets the people whose lives were changed by Bob and his inventions, including legendary musicians like Rick Wakeman, Gary Numan, and Jean-Michel Jarre. Michelle hopes to uncover clues about who her father really was, and how his work not only impacted the world, but had consequences for her and her family. Every person that Michelle meets, who knew Bob, offers another piece of the puzzle that Michelle is driven to complete. For herself, and for the world, Michelle wants to reveal a full picture of who Bob Moog really was, the man behind the iconic Moog brand.

Recently I have been actively developing the concept of “passive instruments”. I understand passive instruments to be different multimedia objects that do not require management so much as co-existence with them based on relations born of a mutual “hybrid” symbiosis.

“Last breadth” is an example of such an instrument. The operating principle of the object is fairly simple – the exhaled air (its pressure and flow rate) activates the generative process, which depends on the exhalation parameters and is managed by the air movement in the organ. The object does not require any special game technique, although any change in the breathing (either premeditated or caused by physiological factors) is directly dependent on game dynamics and also on all the other parameters used to generate the sonic flow.

The idea of this project came to me during an emotional upheaval and concerns about my health that occurred all of a sudden. It is not as I had real grounds to worry about my life. On the other hand, however, the outcome is well-known and could happen at any moment. I don't feel any existential fear of death. On the contrary the “transition” is a wonderful topic for studies as part of art practice. I consider this object to constitute a deathbed mask – a ritual instrument of dying that can be played with when I no longer have any strength to use any other instrument. Until my last breath. And the final representation of the object was formed on this basis: sterile cyber-gothic, new rituals, the organs that support the functioning of the organ.

"Testing some darky tones on these very cool synths.

The track consists of 4 sounds from Tetr4, whose audio outs are routed separately to the audio interface, and 4 soundscapes from Blofed; two background atmospheres and the deep ones played realtime. Its a nice sounding balance between analog and digital worlds.

Moreover, the Eventide Blackhole reverb plugin (very creative device) and Crystallizer (from Soundtoys) provide a great ambience to the track. It´s very interesting how good fx transform sounds… good discussion here :)

Well, this is not my usual stuff, but I really like the feeling I´ve managed. Maybe in a near future I’ll finish some tracks like this for a release.

By the way!!! A brand new Dark Ambient album will be released soon. Stay tuned!!!

What is a "Touch Guitar" Synthesizer?

The "Touch Guitar" is a unique approach to guitar synthesis eliminating the need for pitch correction. (Pitch extraction is a method whereby an electrical sensor determines string vibration and uses this pitch reference to drive and external synthesizer). The "Touch Guitar" allows the musician to play faster than other guitar synthesizers. The fret board on a lead "Touch Guitar" contains ninety-six touch-sensitive frets. These frets do not physically move to actuate fret position. Because of the lack of any physical movement these switches should last for the owner's lifetime. A musical will no longer need strings or mechanical tuning pegs. The strumming section uses a spring loaded strum bar. the tension on this bar simulates the plucking motion of a regular guitar.

The "Touch Guitar" is engineered for total synthesis from a self-contained unit. It offers all the possibilities of a regular guitar...

"Yocto-808 Rhythm Composer, designed by German company Elicktronic as a faithful recreation of Roland’s legendary TR-808 drum machine! This unit is in beautiful cosmetic condition and VERY GOOD working condition. This unit features the Elschtroumph metal enclosure and looks fantastic. Shows just some general light wear and a bit of dust... A few notes regarding this unit: Firstly, to my ear, the Bass Drum Tone knob does not affect the bass drum tone in any way. Second, the Hand Clap sound needs to be properly tuned; to my ear it is very harsh as it is and does not sound anything like a hand clap. It does not sound like the Youtube demos of the Yocto. (The maracas sound fine.) Finally, the Cymbal sound also needs to be tuned, as it is very harsh to my ear; the tone knob does change the tone, though very slightly. Would I still use the hand clap and cymbal on a track? Yes. They are serviceable. Just not true to the original TR-808. With all that said, the unit otherwise preforms beautifully."

"The RS-09 is an analog string and organ synthesizer. The organ and string sections can be played simultaneously or individually. There are some nice features like vibrato ore envelope settings. Both sounds include an individual ensemble/chorus effect and an external sound input to use the RS-09 as an effect. You also can trigger external monosynths, like from the SH family through a gate output.

In this video I go through all functions and sound design capabilities of the RS-09. Finally I demonstrate the further features, like using the SH-9 ensemble effect for external gear and audio. You will be surprised listening, that the ensemble effect of the RS-9 sounds better than the legendary chorus. Only this feature is worth to get a RS-09. I really love this small synth. I was used from Simple Minds, The Cure, Duran Duran and many others.

Its a very underrated keyboard in my opinion. You can get it still for about 300 to 400 USD or EUR.

The Matriarch is Moog's newest semi-modular keyboard which has four oscillators and two filters as well as a stereo analog delay. The four oscillators can be used in monophonic, duophonic or paraphonic modes. Since the Matriarch is semi-modular all types of FM and other modulation between oscillators is possible allowing the creation of complex and interesting timbres.

The filter section features two great sounding Moog filters that can be used in stereo or highpass/lowpass configurations. The filter runs into a stereo BBD analog delay that can run at short times creating reverb like sounds or longer times for standard delay or ping pong delay sounds.

There are many utility patching modules on the Matriarch including multiples, CV controlled attenuverters and LFOs. The Matriarch can be patched internally or with eurorack modular synthesizers.

"This is a Memorymoog Plus that I bought directly from Moog when I worked there as Marketing Manager. I had Don Besecker of DBM Tech install a better MIDI implementation system, while keeping the original Moog hardware. I had Wes Taggart of Analogics do a complete restoration about 10 operating hours ago. All factory patches and sequences are in memory. Everything on the instrument operates at, frankly, better than original factory quality. I include the owner and service manuals and the oh-so-rare cassette interface cables. There are some scratches at the top of the front panel, as you can see in the photos, but I doubt you’ll find a better-sounding Memorymoog anywhere."

Moduł zbudowany jest w oparciu o układy serii AS33xx firmy Alfa z Łotwy, w części cyfrowej znajdują się dwa układy ATmega 328P-PU zaprogramowane w środowisku Arduino (łącznie ok 2000 linii kodu). Zastosowanie mikrokontrolerów umożliwiło ponadto pozbycie się sprzętowych generatorów modulacji (ADSR i LFO), co znacząco wpłynęło na koszt instrumentu.

I am pleased to present PhatOne instrument - monophonic, programmable synthesizer in rack 19" 1U format. For steering purposes there are several buttons on panel and 2 encoders (configuration, preset edit and saving). Module is basen on AS33xx IC produced by Alfa in Latvia, in digital part there are two ATmega328P-PU chips programmed in Arduino environment (around 2000 lines of code). Employment of microcontrollers made possible to get rid of hardware modulation sources (ADSR, LFO). Thanks to this costs are lower.

Of course the individual modules can offer a lot more than just lowpass filtering and the modulation ranges, etc. can vary as well, so here are my opinions about them:

WASP Filter:
The WASP filter has a lot of musical character without the need to dial in many parameters. It loses bottom end and volume at higher resonance levels and doesn't really self-oscillate.

NYLE Steiner Parker Filter:
This is a feature-packed filter with LP, BP and HP inputs instead of outputs. It's got a raw and sometimes squelchy or rubbery sound. The resonance can be CV-controlled and the filter self-oscillates really well.

SVF State Variable Filter:
The State Variable Filter offers two audio inputs with different preset amplification levels. This video demonstrates the hot input, which can overdrive the input signal, adding a nice wave-shaping character to filter sweeps. The lower amp input keeps the signal cleaner. It self-oscillates nicely as well.

LOPAG Lowpass Gate:
This is not a typical filter, but a vactrol lowpass gate. There is no resonance control and it does not self-oscillate. It is normally meant to be pinged or "struck" by triggers or gates, producing percussive sounds."

The 1125 adds a random/staircase waveform pattern generator, and sample and hold options to your vintage Moog (Minimoog, Sonic Six, Modular etc). CONDITION: In good condition. “RANDOM-SAWTOOTH” slider post has snapped off. It still works, and can be moved with a jewelers screwdriver. The wooden end cheeks are custom made. Included with sale are one of the original cheeks with the original slider cap that came off (the snapped off post is in the cap).
The cable was created by a tech in Nashville; it is more stable than the original."

- All outputs and DCB port are functional
