Analogue Renaissance at SUPERBOOTH - Analog distortion for the TB-303 and pretty much everything else

"TS-303 GT Acid Screamer prototype

Totaly bonkers circuit design with Vbe multipliers, Gyrator, Capacitance multiplier and Negative Impedance Converter in a feedback loop with ridiculously high gain.
Features:

- Jumper selectable input impedance 50k - 500k Ohm
- Variable input level: From nothing to +40dB
- Variable output level: 0 to 8Vp-p.
- Tuneable Symetry of the distortion. From perfect symmetric distortion to keeping bottom or top half of the signal intact while obliterating the other.
- Tuneable Dynamics: It analyses the volume enveloppe of the input signal and can restores this on the output signal. This from zero to doubling of the original dynamics.
- Switchable between overdrive and distortion
- Frequency selective distortion: Only distort certain parts of the spectrum, while keeping the rest itact. 2 frequency selection knobs allowing highpass, bandpass, band-reject, lowpass distortion. Do not confuse this with filtering of the input or output signal. It happens in the distortion engine itself.
- Turbo mode: Self-oscillation happening only at the highest clipping levels. Still exploring the posiblities of this one, but it already made me mistake a 606 for a 303...
- A rack version will also be available

AR3109

Replacement for the IR3109. Sounds and behaves exactly the same.

It even does the distortion that happens in the MC-202 and SH-202 when you run them at low voltage or almost empty batteries.

It's also DC-accurate. So, it also works in the portamento circuit of early Jupiter 4's.

STG Switch - Four Applications

Published on May 4, 2018 suitandtieguy

"I spend 15 minutes going over four different uses of the STG Soundlabs Switch module: sequence selector, rhythm generator, audio source selector, and waveform replacement synthesis.

Eurorack introductory sale price of $215 (save $35!) available here: http://stgsoundlabs.com/products/swit...

Moog format: http://stgsoundlabs.com/products/swit..."

"Switch

Switch is a four-input, four-output, voltage and gate controlled switching matrix (and tempo-controlled clock generator/selector.)

The panel is in three sections: inputs, voltage-select output, and sequential outputs. Both output sections feature LEDs which indicate what input channel is currently routed to that output.

The voltage-select output section has a control input, signal output, and 4 indicator LEDs. The response is such:

0v-1v - No connection (0v output)
1v-2v - Channel one
2v-3v - Channel two
3v-4v - Channel three
4v-5v - Channel four

The sequential output has three outputs: two-stage, three-stage, and four-stage. All three outputs shift in tandem on rising edges presented to the v-trig input. There is a stage one input, when gates are presented to this input all outputs will reset and remain on channel one.

Switching delay on sequential outputs is less than 20 microseconds. Input-to-output gain is 1:1 for use in volt-per-octave pitch applications.

Switch also features a very useful bonus feature. There is a connector on the back for the STG Sync Bus. When connected to the sync bus, inputs one through four are normalised to 50 percent duty cycle rhythm clocks of 8th, 16th, 16th triplets, and 32nd notes.

This allows you to use Switch as a voltage controlled clock generator while under sync bus control without any inputs connected except the control signal.

Switch on a sync bus, coupled with a voltage sequencer such as the Voltage Mini-Store or a Detachment 3 Archangel, is the most direct way to duplicate the functionality of Tangerine Dream's Projekt Elektronik digital trigger sequencer as used on the title track of Stratosfear.

This module has a physical depth of only 2 inches.

Introductory sale price: $215 (will increase to $250 when units begin to ship.)

Ship date of July 2018"

This is the operating system that was originally for the internal hard-drive model (which this unit does not have), which leads me to believe, that the 1.0 operating system was loaded to accommodate the SCSI interface. I think that this was originally an SE model that was upgraded to an SE Plus by adding the SCSI. Really not sure about that, this is how I received it. The machine is booted via floppy and once booted, can either run on samples from floppy or run from the Zip 100 full library via SCSI interface."

"Buchla 208r V2 Stored Program Sound Source Module in excellent condition. Please study the detailed photos, there are a few minor things like marks on the boat which were there from new but the 208r is in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This 208r was built to the highest standards using the Roman Filippov V2 PCBs. I did many hours, if not days or weeks of research before commissioning this build and chose a very highly respected European tech to build it for me, he has built many of these for many a happy customer and knows these machines inside out. It sounds amazing and is less than a year old.

The 208r is an exact clone of the 208 from the original 1970s Buchla Music Easel. The only difference I know of is it has a replacement circuit for the uA726 which gives it both better and wider tracking than the original. It is also calibrated to the 1V/OCT standard.

The 208r comes in a powered boat. It has two 1/4" jack outputs, one is a standard large jack output of the main signal out and the other is a dedicated Channel A output which is tapped before the mixer but after the Gate so its possible to do send and return effects processing. It also has a 1/4" jack input for a passive foot-pedal or switch which enables an internal gate signal to be sent to the envelope."

Superbooth 2018: XAOC Devices Odessa & Zadar - Mad Additive Oscillator & Quad Envelope

"The guys from XAOC take us through their two new wild modules."

1975 Variable Spectrum Harmonic Cluster Oscillator

· Additive synthesis engine
· 2500 harmonic partials generated
· Straightforward user interface
· Through-zero linear frequency modulation
· Detuneable clusters of up to 5 voices

Odessa implements the principle of additive synthesis controlled by a set of carefully tailored marco parameters to harness thousands of sinusoidal partials that altogether form the resulting sound.

The interface is kept simple and accessible, so you can easily build rich and full, great sounding timbres of very complex spectra, that can be either harmonic or inharmonic. Even though inharmonic spectra yield non-periodic waveforms, all partials are frequency related to the common fundamental controlled by a V/oct input. The series of harmonics can be squeezed or spread apart, tilt, and pruned by a comb-like frequency response, resulting in a variety of unearthy sounds. Animating the comb response yields radical effects similar to flanging and phasing. Additional, often sought after features are implemented: through-zero linear frequency modulation, and unison detune: up to 5 copies of the sound can be spread apart for a fat and dense cluster of voices.

There are nine parameters, each controlled by a dedicated knob, so the workflow is as smooth and immediate as possible. Furthermore, every parameter has a dedicated CV input, allowing live animation for organic audio effects. Odessa sports two main outputs for banks of harmonic partials that can be further scaled in frequency, as well as an additional output that can either spit out a square wave or a a single sinusoid of the fundamental frequency. Interesting spatial effects, crazy modulation feedbacks as well as synchronisation is possible that way.

The hardware is based on a powerful FPGA chip offering massive parallel computing. The synthesized signal is devoid of aliasing through the entire audio range thanks to intrinsically bandlimited algorithm. A simplified spectral analyzer helps you to keep a visual track of what is actually happening to the harmonics.

For even more control over Odessa, you can use our Leibniz subsystem (or just the Lipsk) that can be connected to a header at the back of the module."

1973 Quadruple Envelope Generator

· Four indepenent channels
· More than 200 unique shapes
· Cycle time range: 0,08ms to 20 sec.
· Shapes can be radically modified in two dimensions
· Complex envelope looping and chaining features
· Assignable CV inputs to cotrol almost every parameter
· Preset slots

Based on the general idea of synthesis by deformable vector shapes, Zadar allows you to choose from a wide variety of envelope functions, designed to suit pretty much any possible usage scenario. From basic and simple to complex transients, from looped modulation cycles to rhythmical patterns, from quasi-randoms to perfectly regular functions, natural envelopes extracted from various acoustic and electronic instruments, abstract fractals and physical models, etc. — they all work great as envelopes but also as stepped sequences, LFOs, resonator exciters and so on.

Starting with one of (literally) hundreds of shapes defined by freely scalable vectors of breakpoints stored in the memory, envelopes can be tweaked and adjusted to the heart’s content. Each shape consists of up to a thousand of segments, and it may be warped in time and amplitude, reversed, stretched from a fraction of milisecond to about 20 minutes, and of course attenuated. By manipulating these parameters you can easily obtain a plethora of new shapes, but it doesn’t end here.
Envelopes can be repeated, looped, chained and each channel sports a freely assignable CV input, allowing for most of the above mentioned transformations to be externally controlled as well.

Operating Zadar is quick and straightforward thanks to the set of four “endless” encoders. Menu diving has been reduced to minimum, and is actually only needed for the advanced settings. A crisp OLED screen provides the necessary visual feedback in real time. All the settings can be stored and organised in preset slots.

There are plans for even more functions to be added in later firmware revisions. Also, a small but very useful Nin expander module is planned, sporting yet another set of individual, assignable CV inputs and manual trigs for each channel for better tweaking comfort."
