P-600-G VST Editor for the Sequential Circuits Prophet-600

Putting P-600-G to Work: A Cover of "Betrayed in the Octagon" by Oneohtrix Point Never video upload by Mister 1-2-3-4 Programming

"As a use-test of the P-600-G VST3 plugin, I created this cover of "Betrayed in the Octagon" by Oneohtrix Point Never. It uses only sounds generated by the Prophet-600 analog synthesizer enhanced by various effects boxes and plugins. In this video, I scroll through the Reaper project to reveal the various audio and MIDI tracks that were used to recreate the song, and at the end the P-600-G program settings for each voice are displayed."

Setting Up P-600-G in Reaper

"P-600-G is a VST3 plugin designed to be used with the Prophet-600 analog synthesizer, released by Sequential Circuits in 1982. It presents all of the synthesizer’s program parameters in a single editor window within your DAW and allows for the automation of parameter changes. It also lets you store, recall, export, and import program presets, as well as quickly generate new sounds the the Randomize Program Settings dialog. At this time, P-600-G is only fully-functional within Cockos’ Reaper and Steinberg’s Cubase (Windows OS only). This video explains how to set up the plugin in Reaper.

P-600-G is distributed free and open source under the GPL v3 license. You can download it and get more information about it at https://programming.mr1234.com/

If you find the plugin useful, please consider making a donation at the same website to support further development!

THIS PLUGIN DOES NOT GENERATE AUDIO. It simply provides editing and automation capabilities for the Prophet-600 hardware. If you do not possess that synthesizer, the plugin is of no use to you. This plugin is not compatible with any third-party modification of the Prophet-600’s firmware."

Blue Lantern Syncussion Plus - Percussion Synthesizer || Full Walkthrough, Manual, & Demo

video upload by Robots Are Red

"In this video we will boogey with Blue Lantern Module's Syncussion Plus eurorack drum module, inspired by the Pearl Syncussion Drum Synthesizer from the 1970's. While the original Syncussion has a handful of oscillator presets to switch through, the Syncussion Plus breaks open the presets with it's mixer section for more ability to customize. The Plus also has the addition of the Shimmer section which can add great metallic clanginess and shimmery effects to your sound via xor cmos modulation.

This module is great for creating all sorts of drum sounds using the various trigger and vca inputs, and creating other-worldly unique percussion sounds. The module can also be used as a sort of complex oscillator by utilizing the LFO, shimmer, noise, and 2 VCOs with the VCA cv input and 1v/oct input, or routing the output of Syncussion Plus to an external VCA.

(Tip: If the module seems to go crazy and continues to self trigger itself or triggers through the VCA CV and you don't want it to, plugging an unplugged cable into the Piezo input seems to eliminate those rogue internal triggers)

First I give a general overview of the module, followed by a full walkthrough of every single knob, switch, input, output, and button, and the video ends with some sound demos."

Making A Simple Kick Drum on the Empress Zoia Eurorboro

video upload by Patchwerks

"In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) makes a simple 'analog' sounding kick drum using the Empress Zoia Euroboro.

Order the EMpress Zoia Euroboro here: https://bit.ly/zoia_euroboro

The ZOIA Euroburo is a digital modular system that can be placed in your modular system, a real Russian nesting doll situation. We added a headphone output and a super-slim optional case so the Euroburo can live happily on your desktop or be easily mounted in a Eurorack case. Hence the euro + buro, pronounced “bureau”…get it!?

Create unique signature effects, synthesizers, sequencers and more while using 4 freely assignable CV ins and 4 outs to interface with other CV enabled devices. The additional headphone output and powered 9-12v case makes the module even more desktop friendly. With over 90 modules from CV utilities to audio effects, oscillators and envelopes to MIDI, the Euroburo can do almost anything to fill the gaps in your setup.

There's no need to worry about getting bogged down with endless menus or a cluttered interface. Creating patches and performing with the ZOIA is a tactile experience. Patching, deleting or moving modules and editing values can all be done quickly using the push-button grid and a flick of the encoder. With the addition of dedicated push buttons for the CV and Audio I/O, patching on the ZOIA has never been faster.

Behringer Reveals $99 Saturn Soul Mini Synth Based on the Roland Jupiter-8 - Full Size In the Works

Another in Behringer's new line of mini format synths. This one appears to be based on the Roland Jupiter-8 and a full size version is still in the works. Details below. Also see the $49 JP-4000 Spirit Mini, and the $99 ProVS Soul.

"Many of you shared with us how much you love the magic sound of this magic synth. While we’re also working on a full size synthesizer, here is our affordable mini version with the authentic circuitry and sound, but accessible to everyone.

The product development is completed and once we receive the necessary chips, we’ll ship this marvel. Suggested price is US$ 99 so all of you now have access to this beautiful sound.

Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer with 3 VCOs, Multi-Mode VCF, Arpeggiator and 16-Step Motion Sequencer

• Portable analog polyphonic and programmable synthesizer

Friday Freebie Jam – Beyond Böhmer

video upload by Modal Electronics

"A fat pluck right out of Ben Böhmer’s new album released on AnjunaDeep. Beyond Beliefs is a laid back yet euphoric track with a killer fat pluck leading the way. With this patch, you’ll be sounding just like Ben, with some added width from the 2-voices panned for stereo depth. Be sure to use dynamics, as velocity modulations on COBALT8 are primarily what make this sound possible. Push up on the joystick to expand things slightly. Enjoy the melodies and harmonies."

Yamaha TX816 DEMO (All 8 Modules In Unison - Part I)

video upload by Blake Foster

"Check out my music: https://cbfosterfunkhouser.bandcamp.com/

The Tx816 is slowly becoming one of my favorites in my collection. It's a rack of 8 Dx7s in a 4 u rack. While it's a pain to integrate into a studio because of the lack of a main output, one needs a dedicated mixer and a 8 channel XLR snake for it to function properly, also don't forget that each module has its own battery so buying a used one is most likely to have dead batteries. Once all that fun stuff is finished, the result is very rewarding! 8 DX7 modules playing in unison is something you'd have to hear in person. Each voice is slightly detuned and each patch uses all 8 TF1 modules. I also realized there are very few TX816 demos on youtube so I thought I'd make one for everyone to see. Some people complain there's a lot of noise with these but I honestly don't see it unless you crank the gain. I beam the sounds from my DX7ii onto the TX module, it's a lot easier plus you can edit from the DX. I highly recommend this synth if you can get a good deal on one. They used to cost 5k in 1984! Enjoy. Also there's a bit of reverb from the Strymon Big Sky, Most of the "reverb" is actually just me sustaining the notes."

Korg DSM-1 | A Sampling Disaster from 1987

video upload by Espen Kraft

"Korg DSM-1, 12-bit Digital Sampling Synthesizer Module from 1987. The module version of the mighty DSS-1. Well, not really. As we shall see in this video.
High quality&24 Hours Build Time: https://www.pcbway.com/

Support this channel on Patreon:
https://www.patreon.com/espenkraft

The DSM-1, with 4 times more memory than the DSS-1, a HD-floppy drive and 16 (!) individual outputs, lacked all the synth goodies from the DSS-1 while operating with a much more complex and cumbersome hierarchy of sub-modes made it bomb like a stone and Korg would quit making samplers for decades. Akai ruled the sampling world. Today I would recommend the DSS-1 over this any day, of these two, even if the concept of modules has always had a magic spell on me. The DSS-1 just has more power in terms of sound, where the DSM-1 just falls flat. If it's just 80s sampling you're after there are many models from other brands I would recommend more."

Patch of The Week: 'Filter Drums' Part 1 - Analogue Cowbell w/ Fixed Filter Bank 914 (& VCF Clave)

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"This week's patch is the first of a short series showing ways to use filters for vintage rhythm/drum machine percussion style sounds, beginning with an analogue cowbell-type sound using the Fixed Filter Bank 914.

00:00 Patch of The Week: 'Filter Drums'
02:07 Patch Sheet

Some filters can be used to create tones without any input sound, simply by pushing them into self-oscillation (raising resonance beyond it's threshold point), but the Fixed Filter Bank is not a regular filter/VCF, so it works a little differently. Rather than controlling the overall frequency of the filter, each of it's bandpass filters has a preset frequency, for which you control the level. On the AJH Synth module they are deliberately tuned to one of two pitches when pushed into feedback, which makes it more musically useful. Here, I mix in some white noise to add texture to the feedback frequencies.

For comparison, I also included the Ladder Filter here to demonstate how a typical VCF (which can self-oscillate) can be controlled by a sequencer, with the steps controlling the pitches it produces. The point is that either module has it's advantages when used to synthesize particular sounds. In this video the ladder filter is producing simple tuned claves."

Patch of The Week: No-Input Filter Drums Part 2 - Using VCF Self-Oscillation to create Percussion

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"This week's patch shows some ideas for using self-oscillating analogue filters to produce vintage drum machine inspired sounds, the basis of which can be used to emulate such sounds as the clave, bongo, cowbell, and kick/bass drum of early rhythm boxes. I used the sounds of the Roland CR-78, TR-77 and Acetone FR-2L as inspiration here, but in a later Patch of The Week video I'll be recreating some sounds of 70's machines more directly, using VCOs and noise sources. In the meantime, the methods contained here might be of interest to those wanting to make some simple percussive accompaniment with a limited number of modules. At the end of the video I'll show some vintage-inspired patterns using the modular as a 4 voice drum machine, without needing to use samples or a sampler. Patch notes and link to downloadable patch sheet below.

Oxi One Piano Sequencing

video upload by Oxi One Piano Sequencing

"Using the #OxiOne as a sequencer for some minimal piano stuff. So one sequencer on the Oxi is set to chord mode providing some chord changes but is actually not sequencing anything, while the 3 other sequencers are set to harmonizer mode which basically quantizes all notes going on there to the scale of the chord sequencer. The other sequences contain a straight mono arpeggio, a poly notes sequence as well as a polyrhythmical sequence. On top there’s a LFO modulating the note velocity over a couple of bars and a pinch of random velocity and pitch induced. Oxi One is sequencing #Noirepiano running on a nearby laptop via bluetooth. Visuals made with HeavyM software synced via Ableton Link."

Dreamy Sunshine Arps outside with the M8

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"Enjoying some arps outside in the sun.

Been working on some more complex arp presets, you just put down one note, and off they go, lots of table modulation. So this is 2 different arp presets, and a pad that modulates its notes in a table also.

So just a C in track 1, C in track 2 and C in track 3."

Sequential Take 5 Poly Synth review - Sonic LAB

video upload by sonicstate

"Sequential's new poly synth with an analog heart - the Take 5 offers us the chance for proper analog VCOs and analog VCFs (Prophet 5 type) in a five voice compact form. It's also relatively reasonably priced at around £1090/$1499.

To save space, the pitch and mod wheels are set on the top panel with a 44 key F to C keybed with aftertouch. The build feels pretty good with nicely firm and consistent knobs, rotary encoders and backlit switches.

A Sampler, Synth, and Drum machine.. All you need! // A Compact Creation with this Dawless Setup

video upload by Ricky Tinez

"Simple-ish Dawless setup i've been using while i await a new computer. Pretty fun just jamminga round on the Tepest, Pro 3, and the Octatrack! I'm doing a ton of live looping, running drums through FX, and 'performance mixing' on the Octatrack by adding effects and using the crossfader."

video upload by Luca Longobardi

"A Failure for Civilization: a maditation for retrograde words

I have quite confused ideas about what could be the right behavior in a situation like the one we are living today: one can stop petrified by horror to reason, to try to understand; we can take refuge in unconsciousness and pretend that that same horror is far away, that it does not touch us closely. What is the right thing to do in order not to wobble that glimmer of lightness that was glimpsed on the horizon after these two hard years?
Today I am lost like this."

Neutral Labs Meg unique waveshaper Eurorack module demo

video upload by nyppy

"Available in March 2022 as DIY kit or prebuilt module. See https://neutral-labs.com/meg"

"Meg is a unique kind of waveshaper. Instead of folding the wave back in on itself like a common wavefolder, it shifts parts of the wave up or down, with the shifting threshold being adjustable. The resulting 2 half-waves can be flattened one by one, essentially morphing into a half square wave and eventually a full square wave. Essentially, it will add pulse-width modulation (and more) to any kind of wave."

"The RS-505, from 1978, is a rare analog synthesizer with three independent sections: Strings, Poly-Synth and Bass. These three sections can be blended to create sounds ranging from thunderous bass to luscious pads. The RS-505 can even process incoming audio through the BBD ensemble effect!

This unit has been fully tested, and the power supply has been recapped and rebuilt."

"The skinny: The keyboard ribbon cold solder joint is toast so the keyboard DOES NOT WORK. NO, it does NOT suffer from any sticky-keys. Never did. Still doesn't. Pic shows how everything is solid, no melties anywheres. If you can butcher the proper ribbon from another Roland, you're golden.

Everything else works. As a MIDI device it's wonderful. Just too big for my studio right now.

Comes with 3 notebooks that are copies of the Reference manuals and User Guide along with an extra Guitars & Brass card along with the two Drums/Percussion cards as pictured."

Mini Synth Orchestra “MSO-1” in Custom Cabinet

video upload by Brittle stR music

via this auction

"All units are used but in excellent condition, mounted in a custom cabinet. All cables, power supplies, original boxes and manuals are included. There’s even a spare 13A socket in the rear-mounted plug board to power your controller, or another mini instrument. The cabinet has room for something like a Pocket Operator or 1010Music Nanobox, and a spare stereo channel in the mixer. All units sit firmly, held in by gravity.

What you hear in the video is the MSO-1 recorded in stereo, with only some compression and EQ to tame the bass. All spatial FX come from the MSO-1. The NTS-1 has the deep atmospheric effects featured in Korg’s ‘logue synths, and can receive 3rd party oscillators and FX algorithms. The M100 has some of TC Electronic’s high quality reverbs in a small box!

UK bidders only please.

Korg Volca Bass (synth)
Korg Volca Keys (synth)
Korg NTS -1 (synth)
TC Electronic M100 (FX)
Behringer Xenyx 802 (mixer)
Keyboard not included."

Creating sounds on the OB-6 from scratch (No Talking) Synth Demo

"There is no method to this video, just 5 minutes of free sound design on the Sequential Circuits OB-6. Sometimes it's just fun to see where inspiration takes you. I try to touch on all the main features of the OB-6, including x-mod, the notch filter, and some nice internal effects. All sounds from OB-6, no compression or extra effects added."

Song for Ukraine

video upload by Woody Piano Shack

"Like everyone in the world,
I am shocked and horrified by recent events.

I wrote "Song For Kataryna" years ago
for the people of Pripyat and Chernobyl.

I hope it is appropriate to play it again now.

Your country is not far from where I live
and I think of you as neighbours.

You are in my thoughts every minute of the day.

To the brave citizens of Russia who risk everything
to protest against the war

I salute you, and thank you.
Continue to be strong.

To the peaceful people of Ukraine who
are enduring a terrifying ordeal

And those fighting to defend their country

I give you my heart and hopes."

No Pop No Fun by Chinaski

https://chinaski-sfx.bandcamp.com/album/no-pop-no-fun

"Preview the album here.

For an understanding of the past, you have to look to the future – or was it the other way round? No matter how you want to put it, some things are an aesthetic choice, and the meaning of style does not necessarily go hand in hand with the latest fashion fad or an incurable retromania. Chinaski’s debut (album under that name) on Running Back seems predestined to resume these discussions. Drenched in sepia colors and faded VHS tapes memories, fed by a science-fiction that never became a fact, essentially made with the ultramodern instruments of yesteryear (see back cover for further reference) that became redundant through their own relatives and a need to ensure efficiency (time, space, money), it’s either concept art, an ode to Disco Piu, a post card from the early days of Frankfurt’s Dorian Gray or the search and itch for a time machine.

All of the debate above is rendered useless by the title though: No Pop, No Fun! And those are the main musical reference points here: instrumental pop that you can dance to, pastel melodies that stick with you and fun frequencies. Downtempo ballads for video game characters in love meet cabriolet anthems and... more

Live annotated performance: Buchla 208c Easel Command avant-garde synthesizer electronic music

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

"I am using the Buchla 208c music Easel Command along with the Make Noise 0-ctrl as a stand in for the 218 touch controller and wanted to explore how to use a patch that my 3 year old son put together. I am using annotations to try to teach some of my thought process when I'm making these improvisations. This is entirely live and unrehearsed. The goal of this piece of electronic music was to find musical ways to use the combination of the Pulsar to pitch with the Envelope Generator to Timbre in the complex oscillator. I was able to pull off his favorite sounds: Ambulance and Truck Motor. The combination of the two modulations allows me to create some interesting rhythmic concepts. This is a relatively simple patch and doesn't need many connections to get something that can sound extremely complex. I am using the west coast technique of starting with something and spinning it out like a centrifuge. I'm processing the sound through a few eurorack modules that I will detail below. Hopefully this camera angle also helps you learn something!

Patch Notes:
Buchla 208c Easel Command audio to 4ms Tapographic Delay to Make Noise X-pan controlled by Intellijel Quadrax and Tangle Quartet. Audio from Eurorack output to Boss RC-5 loop pedal and Eventide H9 reverb.
Live patching: in annotations"

Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance - Tracking Early Korg Serial Numbers

Supporting member Electropict wrote in to let us know about their website Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance, and specifically an interesting project they took up during the lockdown.

"Whilst under pandemic lockdown last year, I started compiling information on early Korg serial numbers, which has gradually turned into a group of pages with about two thousand of them, of which about eighteen hundred have Matrixsynth references. (I think my curiosity got the better of me.)

There are, at last count, forty-four potential corrections, some of which are very interesting imho, and many of which are only obvious once you've understood the early Korg systems. (Hopefully these pages will be a useful reference in future, for anyone interested.)

The main page of all early Korg serials Iʼve found, which I'm updating about once a week: https://zasm.earth/korg-serials

The original idea, considering MS-20s in more detail, in its own page: https://zasm.earth/korg-ms20-serials-characteristics

And a page about one of the more interesting corrections - two MS-20s with the same serial number. https://zasm.earth/twynthesisers"

Be sure to see the rest of Zen & the Art of Synthesizer Maintenance for additional synth resources while there.

" Modded by Funkagenda, paint job by Customsynth.co.uk, here we have a Pearl WHITE Roland SH-101. Visually stunning, no mistake? Cool blue LEDs make a statement, for sure. There are VERY few in this colour, with these extra specifications......

There are extra features now on board eg audio input, LFO clock in....dial in the FM synthesis, and the most weird/bonkers sounds are generated...something totally unexpected!

Condition is "mint". This synth is 40 years old. It has NOT been played very much at all. Normally, the faders/knobs are 'getting on a bit, like...'....not THIS one. The power switch is the usual suspect re failing; it is absolutely faultless. Synth really feels like brand spanking new! Package is complete with 220V PSu, although the synth will beaver away with only x 6 "C" type batteries inside....so personal synthesis audio/sequencing easily accomplished via headphones......"
