Arturia PolyBrute 12: Nova Pluck - A Pro Synth Network Short

video upload by Pro Synth Network

"In this first of a series of short demos of synths, we take a look at the Arturia PolyBrute 12. Using a tune that will be familiar to most, this performance uses a single patch called Nova Pluck. Everything you hear is this one patch.

I start off by using the A side of the patch, then morph towards the B side which brings in the rhythmic timbre and opens up the filters a bit more.

This particular patch uses the PolyBrute 12's Alt Aftertouch more, specifically the FullTouch Env setting. This allows me to control the envelope across the whole travel of the key and when I press into the aftertouch zone, things get raucous!

A huge thanks to Arturia and in particular Kuba Sojka who designed this patch."

SERGE Mantra II Tantra - 15 Sound Impressions

video upload by Serge Modular | Random*Source

"Serge MANTRA II + TANTRA - is this the ultimate 2 panel Serge combination?

MANTRA II is the latest generation of MANTRA - it combines Sequencing with some of Serge's signature modules in the latest incarnation (6th gen): GTO (successor to the Smooth&Stepped Generator), GTS (successor to the Dual Universal Slope Generator), Variable Q Filter+ (more inputs, processor for resonance).

TANTRA was designed as an ideal companion for MANTRA (II) - Rhythm, the voltage controlled divider (÷N) and the Pulse Divider. A number of utility functions (Mix Pro, Active Pro+ = ring modulation!, Mixer), an additional pair of slopes (GTS), the middle section of the classic Wave Multipliers, the brand new Serge VCFX filter plus an XFader as an additional output module (for stereo output).

Here are 15 patches - using only MANTRA II + TANTRA (and occasionally some reverb) - that aim to show the sonic range:

"Muse is an eight-voice analog bi-timbral polyphonic synthesizer — the culmination of over 5 years of dreams, design, and passion. Muse is an intuitive and powerful instrument built on the rich history of Moog that simultaneously gazes boldly into the future. This studio or performance centerpiece is driven by eight analog voices, each with two VCOs, a modulation VCO, dual VCFs, and a stereo VCA — all with that recognizable, kinetic analog quality.

AM1028 Sequential Volts - Expand your Behringer 1027 Sequencer

video upload by AMSynths

"AMSynths expands the B1027 sequencer with an additional column of eight steps of control voltage. The included 12-way ribbon cable connects the two modules internally. CV outputs of 2V and 10V ranges are available. The 2V output is ideal for VCO's and can be patched via a quantizer (used in the video). The 1028 was envisaged by ARP in 1970 but never manufactured until now."

"This 8HP module expands the capability of the Behringer 1027 sequencer by adding an additional column of variable control voltages. The module connects to the B1027 with an included 12 way ribbon cable.

The eight steps of the 1027 are mirrored in the 1028 with three precision control voltage outputs; one at 2V for controlling VCO's and two at 10V for controlling filters, amplifiers and VC env gens.

In 1970 ARP planned to make a slave module for the 2500 1027 sequencer but it never made it into production or prototype stage.

The AMSynths AM1028 fills in a piece of history by recreating the Slave Module, which we call Sequential Volts. It is an easy to understand and use module; just plug it into the Behringer 1027 module with the included 12-way cable and enjoy another column of step CV's!

The AM1028 can be placed next to the Behringer 1027 or close to the module it is controlling, reducing patch cable lengths. Multiple AM1028 modules can be connected to one long ribbon cable, thanks to the CMOS buffering chips and diode protection in the module. or the AMSEQBUS pcb can be used to connect mutiple modules.
High quality Alpha potentiometers and Rogan knobs have been used to ensure control voltages can be easily set and adjusted. The 2V output is designed to drive VCO's and increases the resolution of the control pots."

Switches (Eurorack sequencing without sequencers)

video upload by Electrum Modular

"A sequential switch is an essential utility for modular music-making. But Disting EX's multi-switch offers up to SIX switches that can be configured in multiple ways: bidrectional, sequential, random, ping-pong, etc. And each switch is essentially a double switch: it can alternate its inputs AND outputs. Best of all, these sequences can work separately but they can also work together, sharing the same inputs and outputs. Or you could create nested switches.
Here's an experiment with sending three switches to the same output, to create a longer melodic sequence.

Modules used:
Disting EX
ALM’s Pamela’s New Workout
Intellijel's Scales
Tesseract's Sweet Sixteen

Moog Spectravox: Modular Patches & Ideas. Vocoder Synth Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Modular Voices is a soundset for the semi-modular synth and analog processor Moog Spectravox.
It is a collection of 50 presets: 24 Synths, 13 Plucks, 6 Percs, 7 Drones.
There is a wide range of timbres inside the pack: simple and complex, dark and bright, vintage and modern, noisy/distorted and soft, musical and experimental, harmonic and inharmonic.

Some patches are in 'synth mode' and can be played with a keyboard, while others are in 'processing mode' — they process incoming audio and modulate it. Some patches combine the two modes: they process audio and can also be played with a keyboard.

📗 Get the soundset: https://bit.ly/4d7XUHW

Synths and plucks are excellent for use with arpeggiators or sequencers. Drones produce dark, distorted tones with heavy modulations, FM, noise, etc. They can be used as pads in genres like techno, industrial, or ambient to create a certain inharmonic atmosphere. Perc patches are perfect if you are looking for unusual and unique rhythmic additions to your performance or track.

Tones using external audio require playing a sample attached to the patch. You will find all samples with the patch name, as well as its role (PROGRAM or CARRIER), in the Audio Content folder. Load the samples into your workstation, set up Spectravox according to the image, and play the sample(s). Adjust the PROGRAM GAIN LEVEL yourself. It may not match the image if you have changed the sample's volume level. PROGRAM GAIN LEVEL can affect the tone, for example, causing distortion at high values, as well as the envelope of the entire patch if PROG TRIG - EG is used.

In most cases, I use synthesized chords for CARRIER and rhythmic sounds for PROGRAM. Be sure to try using your unique content. For CARRIER, you can create a sequence of chords or pads using a VST synthesizer. For PROGRAM, you can use vocal samples. There are many options.

For tones in the PLUCK and SYNTH categories, I usually use external arpeggiators or sequencers. This allows you to keep your hands free to work with the synthesizer parameters.

The patches are suitable for many genres: Techno, Ambient, House, Deep, Progressive, Trance, Minimal, IDM, Downtempo, Synthwave, Retrowave, Electronica, Dark/Noise, Industrial, Breakbeat, Drum and Bass, and others.

The soundset is presented in the form of PDF-Document. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.

Each patch has an audio example, it helps to understand how the timbre is supposed to sound.

To recreate these patches, you will need up to 8 patch cables. You will also need a stackable cable or a splitter/multiplier. The document includes detailed information about using an external keyboard with CV/Gate outputs.

Moog Spectravox is a versatile device that can be used in various ways:
- It can generate a complete signal without additional devices and audio input.
- It can produce musical tones that can be played from a keyboard or used with external sequencers and DAWs.
- It can process external audio signals, passing them through the Filter Bank and modulations.
- It can operate in Vocoder mode.
- It also supports combinations of these different scenarios. For example, using the Vocoder with an external audio signal, plus playing notes from a keyboard or sequencer.

All of this requires connecting various sources to Spectravox. In the PDF document, I will detail the routing scenarios I used. You can either fully replicate them or use them as a starting point for your own scenarios."

video upload by Instruō

"Exploring sound examples from a stereo super saw synth voice using the cruïnn.

The sequencer or keyboard sends voltages to cruïnn while simultaneously triggering the envelope generator. The CV output of the envelope generator opens two VCAs, allowing cruïnn to pass through. Two LFOs modulate the cutoff frequencies of two filters, creating a stereo modulation. Depth and Rate parameters are increased to apply phase modulation."

Aranea by Ritual Electronics - Matrix Mixers are great fun

video upload by Stazma

"Today I'll be showing some cool stuff to do with Aranea, a new five by five matrix mixer by Ritual Electronics. These kind of units are great for feedback, drony and noisy stuff but also awesome at the classic "dub mixing" technics. I'll show you a bit of everything, from textural drones, harsh noise junglism and acid Dub ;-)

07.30.24 Serge Paperface '78

video upload by batchas

"I made 2 new walnut cabinets for some of my Serge Modular System panels. Not 100% ready, but at least all panels are mounted. As the panels were unmounted I made all needed repairs that accumulated during the last couple of years and also service work on the Paperface. Yes! Old synths are very capricious! Here's a quick patch I did while testing most of the system once it was mounted back."

The Synton Fénix IId

video upload by batchas

"In this video we see the Synton Fénix IId. It is built from a kit that was sent by Bert Vermeulen himself (Synton) to customers who had the opportunity to buy one around 2022.
The kit came with all the needed material. Bananas, knobs, wires etc. Only the PSU for the latest batch of kits had to be bought separately. You also had to build your on case (provisional one in this video).
I only changed a couple of components on the circuits. And it sounds great!"

Blipblox special tips and tricks

video upload by Blipblox Sound Lab

"Are you an experienced Blipblox user? Maybe there are still a few functions you don't know about. In this video, we demonstrate some of the lesser known, but still very cool Blipblox features. All of these features are specific to the SK2 and After Dark models. The only features here that are available on the original white Synth for Kids is the Drum Edit and Drum Solo modes.

Summary of features described in this video:

-Hold 'RANDOMIZE' to 'un-randomize' a sound, so you can return to the last sound.

-Hold down 'Filter Mod' to change filter type. There are 3 filter types: Lowpass, Bandpass, and Highpass. This changes how the Filter lever affects the sound.

-Hold down 'CTRL2' while adjusting the Filter lever to modify the Filter Resonance. Resonance emphasizes the audio at the filter cutoff frequency, creating a 'squeaky' sound.

-Hold down 'CTRL1' while adjusting the Filter lever to modify the Delay Effect. The effect adds a spacey echo sound.

-Hold down the 'KICK' button, and press 'SEQ' activates Drum Solo mode. This turns off the synth engine, so you only hear the drums

-Hold down the 'SNARE' button while pressing 'RANDOMIZE' enters Drum Edit mode. In this mode, 'LFO1' changes the pitch of the Kick Drum, 'MOD1' changes the Kick Drum sound, 'MOD2' changes the Snare Drum sound, and 'LFO2' changes the Snare Drum Pitch. Hold down 'SNARE' and 'RANDOMIZE' to return to normal synth mode."

"The Terminator theme reworked as a love theme by Espen Kraft. Original music by Brad Fiedel.
I made this with two synths from the 80s, the Korg DSS-1 and Korg MS-10. Everything is played live in 4 different passes (multi tracked). No sequencers used.
This was originally part of a longer Korg DSS-1 video which is no longer available on my channel.

4TOMS, the CUT input explained

video upload by LARIX ELEKTRO

"The Larix-Elektro 4TOMS is a bank of four tom generator.
With CV control of 3 parameters, and a stereo mixer.

But there is also a CUT input. What is it ?
When receiving a trig, it cuts the sound of the corresponding tom.

BONUS:
Even if 3 parameters is CV modulable, there is only on CV input. (see others video about how to extend the number of CV inputs).
If you don't need this CUT input, you can use it as a second CV input!"

Roland Aira Demora - Digital Delay - Sound Demo

video upload by Friendly Noise

"Four eurorack compatible effects units made up the Aira Effects range. The modules can be used as they are, but they can also be edited with a free editor provided by Roland, called Aira Customizer. Beneath the analog surface hides a collection of digital modules, which in fact turn each Aira effects module into a self-contained Modular System.

The Aira effects were not available for a long time, and they are today no as popular as they should be, imho. My guess is that Roland never managed to show the real capabilities of the Aira effects to the potentially interested people. For instance, the fact that the editor stopped working on modern computers didn’t help"

WitchTech, Inc. | A Strega Techno Rumble

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I am working on a new video which will take some time to finish. While experimenting I got seriously distracted by Strega again. Like it or not, here's another video about the Witch. I ran the sub output into the pre-amp and turned down the pitch to a decent BPM for techno, which is about 125.5 in this session. I pushed the pre-amp and output as far as I could, dialed in the delay into a rumble and ended with a mean, dark, menacing techno beat.

At some point I got a steady pulse and produced two more takes around it. I added a screaming drone, a super simple 125.5 drum loop from a VST and some basement reverb. It's probably one of the heaviest industrial tracks I ever made."

First jam with Centaur's Gates by Shakmat

video upload by Stazma

"The guys at Shakmat Modular sent me a bunch of modules to try a few month ago already, mostly their Bard Quartet that I shown in a few videos already. But last week they sent their new Centaur's Gates that I was very curious about. Here is my first jam with it, in a very "Wect Coast" style, using both sides of the modules as Low Pass Gates in serie (it's a thing I do often).

Flancher 5 for dark delays and Fostex 3180 on the spring reverb duty.

Have fun!"

Ambient with Harmony Bloom

video upload by boxoftextures

"Well, in my head this was going be five minutes long and be kind of a quick demo of an ambient technique I figured out for making a Bloom-ish generative ambient setup but with "modern" apps in AUM. Bloom is an app by Brian Eno—well, two apps, really—that has various generative modes that you can interact with or just have them play on their own. And in an online discussion group I'm in someone was bummed that Bloom is "just" a standalone app and not AUv3 or Interapp Audio. So I thought about it for a bit and came up with a way to make something Bloom-ish.

So the original thought was five minutes or so of generative music that I could talk over and explain my methods. But I just couldn't "ruin" it by talking over the music, it was too jarring. So right off the bat it was twice as long as I'd originally intended. And then I set it going again, this time with a tiny bit of shimmered piano, and didn't talk over it again, so it kind of ended up four times as long as I'd wanted LOL. So please accept my apologies, and I'll see if I can organize it into chapters to make it easy to navigate.

Basically I'm using iSEM as my synth, driven by Harmony Bloom, and then going into Weeping Wall for a cascade of echoes and then into Eos 2 for some (as usual) incredibly lush reverb. And a Pianoteq Steinway going into BLEASS Shimmer in the second piece. Many more details in the video.

SOLAR FALL | SOLAR 42F

video upload by ELTA music

"Improvisation at sunset in the mountains of Italy.
This improvisation was played without rehearsal, from the first take, after switching on the synthesiser.
SOLAR 42F is a unique experimental electro-music instrument, an analogue microtonal ambient drone machine. It will inspire you to find a new and spontaneous approach to composing music.
The instrument is oriented for live performances, creating film soundtracks, theatre soundtracks, atmospheric sounds, microtonal and background music. It is an improved version of the older SOLAR 50 model. The instrument was inspired by early electronic musical instruments of the 1920s and 1950s, notably Leo Theremin's «Harmonium» instrument, as well as science fiction film soundtracks."

GND-1T Speech Chip Synthesizer Tutorials 3. Speech Sounds and Circuit Bending Basics

video upload by GND-1

GND-1T instructional demos | All GND-1T posts

"This is #3 in my series of short instructional demos of the GND-1T speech chip synthesizer. This installment provides an introduction to creating speech sounds and applying classic (and new) circuit bends to them. There's a huge number of additional parameters that can be applied to modify the words / loops, including e.g. stereo circuit bends that essentially run twin circuit bending engines. But I wanted to start off more simply.

As always, everything you hear is taken directly from the GND-1T stereo output, without any additional processing or effects. For more information (and to download the user manual), see https://richardvanhoesel.com/gnd1t"
