Bastl Pizza + AFL Pixie x Make Noise Multimod

video upload by Liminal Pulses

"Starting a new series where, the focus isn't on one particular modules details on sound and how it works, but a focus on pure sound, melody and patch experimentation. A song, a track, something to play in the background while you work. A longer version of my instagram sketches.

Here I have the ‪@GlasgowSynthGuild‬ Octone and the ‪@EricaSynths‬ Black Sequencer running the ‪@afterlateraudio‬ Pixie and ‪@bastlinstruments‬ Pizza, through the ‪@nano.modules‬ St Font filter and Serra ADSR, with the above modulated by the ‪@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC‬ Multimod, with EVERYTHING effected by the ‪@busycircuits‬ MFX and ‪@tiptop-audio‬ Z5000.

"This is a heavily customized E-70 organ with the synth functions of all 3 orchestra sections (upper keyboard, lower keyboard, pedals) fully and independently programmable. Furthermore a 4th solo section has been added.

Although many people have compared converting Yamaha E-series organs into programmable synthesizers to turning them into CS80´s I have always looked much more towards the GX1 connection. The GX1 was the mother of all Yamaha CS´ and contained 1 analog solo synthesizer, 2 polyphonic sections and 1 bass pedal section. So how could the Son Of GX ever be really complete without the addition of such a solo synth?"

midiphy zetaSID audio demos (ROM patchbank)

video upload by midiphy

"midiphy proudly presents: zetaSID for eurorack, an expandable powerful SID voice covering a wide range of tones and textures, from classic chiptune staples to sounds you might not expect from a SID chip. The legendary sound engine that defined the Commodore 64 era and shaped the childhood memories of a whole generation of musicians turns out to have plenty left to say. What started as three humble oscillators in a home computer back in 1982 still has a unique character that nothing else quite captures. And zetaSID is here to make sure that sound keeps finding its way into music for years to come.

Here are some selected audio demos, some of them use external FX, some are dry, directly recorded from the bare metal.

You can test-drive the zetaSID ROM patchbank sounds on your own, in your browser, for free: https://www.midiphy.com/en/zetasid-em...

Roland Cloud XV-5080 - "Planet XV" Soundset

video upload by LFOstore

"The legendary Roland XV-5080 synthesizer is back with a virtual Roland Cloud version!

BUY: https://lfo.sellfy.store/p/roland-clo...

Back to 2000s XV series was one of the most powerful digital modules with its flexible engine & beautiful sound combined with great set of effects & drums.

Why its so cool?

Cause besides pianos, bells, cowbells & cheesy accordions, GM applause and Bang! presets - its capable to create great analog sounds, the deepest ambient textures, great moving sequences.

Its like a hardware 'Omnisphere' synth with huge effort.

So – what was our first desire when we get our black box?
To create our own soundset for the legend with modern approach ofcourse!

So here it is: 'Planet XV' Soundset by LFO.store team: Nick Klimenko & Kirill Polikashin.

128 presets splitted on:

Vintage analog-like basses & modern digital wavetable
Vintage & Modern leads (yes, Klaus Schulze spirit also there)
Deepest ambient pads, space drones & tonal soundscapes
Modern sequences you never heard or seen before on JV
Beautiful bells, plucks & rhytmic structures
Fx's with modular approach (cause, why not?)
Great emulations of classic legends: Moog, Jupiter, JX-series, CS & others.

Enjoy the sounds and rediscover XV world with our soundset!"

Perfect Pads - Soundset for Waldorf Protein

video upload by WaldorfMusicChannel

This inaugural Protein soundset brings the acclaimed Perfect Pads series – previously available for the Waldorf Iridium and Quantum – to Waldorf’s newest synthesizer Protein.

Featuring 32 meticulously crafted pad presets designed to showcase the full depth and character of the Protein sound engine. Drawing on the powerful synthesis architecture of the Protein and rich wavetable palette, this collection delivers some of the widest, warmest, and most expressive pads available on the Waldorf Protein. Each patch is immediately playable and musically inspiring, making the pack ideal for a wide range of genres – from ambient and cinematic to electronic and experimental – while also providing an excellent starting point for further tweaking and sound design.

Harry van Mierloo is an emerging international sound designer and creative design professional from the Netherlands. He blends the sound of classic analog synthesizers with the power of modern machines – perfect for artists seeking highly usable patches or fresh inspiration as a starting point for everyday day studio work. For many years, Harry has been fascinated by the wonderfully rich and emotional touch that pad sounds can add to music. He has now crafted and released his second official soundset called ‘Perfect Pads 2’ for the Iridium & Quantum."

Bad Gear - He tried his best to HATE IT

video upload by AudioPilz

[Funny side note: I just saw that episode of Myth Busters with the truck plowing through cars, just yesterday.]

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. There are a few learnings to be taken from years of ploughing through music production gear like an 80s rock band shopping in a liquor store: don’t believe the hype, everything has been done before and never trust a stylish instrument sold with the promise to give you all you need in a compact form factor without compromising sound quality and usability.

Today we are going to talk about Dirtywave M8. This hardware tracker and mini DAW comes with more red flags than the average dating app experience like a cult-like following, a Game Boy-inspired workflow and believe me - I tried my best to hate it.

From Techno to Whitney // Hexdrums Sound Demos

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Pristine to Filthy ... 11 Erica Synths Hexdrums Patterns covering different styles from gabber to Whitney Houston! I wanted to show. range of tones - from dirty fat techno juice to silky 808 style smoothness. With a lot of tweaking in an attemot to show the full range.. those kicks are MASSIVE!

It comes with some preset patch sheets to get you up and running as well as some empty ones to record your own favourite settings. I play most of the 'presets' and make some of my own to show it doesn't have to be a wall of sound. simple and sparse sounds amazing too."

via this eBay listing

"This listing is for a vintage 1980's Ensoniq ESQ-1 Analog/Digital Polyphonic Synthesizer Workstation that comes with an Ensoniq Sequencer Expander Cartridge and power cord. This synthesizer is in good physical and working condition. The winning bidder will receive exactly what is pictured.

The Ensoniq ESQ-1 is a 61-key, velocity sensitive, eight-note polyphonic and multitimbral synthesizer released by Ensoniq in 1985. It was marketed as a "digital wave synthesizer" but is actually an early music workstation. Although its voice generation is typically subtrative in much the same fashion as most analog synthesizer that preceded it, its oscillators are neither voltage nor digitally controlled, but true digital oscillators, provided by a custom Ensoniq wavetable chip. The signal path includes analog resonant low-pass filters and an analog amplifier.

Roland MC-303 | 160BPM DNB

video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto

"In modern production, the most interesting results often come not from layers of weight and power but from the spaces in between. The Roland MC-303, released in the late 1990s, carried this idea into the hands of producers worldwide. Its tones are not always fat or saturated. Instead, they are brittle, sometimes almost hollow. Yet when placed inside today’s dense arrangements, these sounds can cut through with surprising precision and rhythmic character.

Each zetaSID contains 3 voices and filter as you would expect from an Sid chip ( The Sid chip is the sound chip from the legendary Commodore 64 home computer from the 80's )

So each zetaSID is a like one commodore 64. If you have multiple zetaSID's they can be linked together with supplied ribbon cables internally to add them to the Phybus, midiphy's way of having all modules being able to talk to each other. They then can work in unison, as stereo pairs, monophonically or for polyphony so a lot of different ways to use them. Of course I wanted to test how I could use them multitimbrally, and in this example I have them unlinked (not physically you can do it from the menus)

The midi module is Nexus Midi by midiphy and allows you to control the zetaSID's via regular midi over the Phybus (they do support cv gate also)

zetaSID 1 is using the drum engine, here I have split, kick, snare and hats over different voices on a single zetaSID, so indeed you can play a kick, hat and snare at the time time if patched this way.

zetaSID 2 is the lead sound, it is going through some hall reverb in this example. It shows off legato bends and using the impressive wave sequencer to increase vibrato over time (like tables if you are familiar with trackers)

zetaSID 3 Uses the Arp to provide classic c64 Arp sounds, I am just sending chords to this module over midi and it is handling the arps itself. It actually has 3 arpeggiators, one per voice, so a stereo pair of zetasids can run SIX arps with completely different settings at the same time from a single patch, impressive.

zetaSID 4 Is using one of the factory presets Den of Saws, I've just high passed it a bit since we are using a lot harmonically rich voices in this song.

This was midi sequenced via a Dirtywave M8 Tracker.

I will show more of the zetaSID's, as they are very powerful and very deep, the amount of modulation they have is outstanding even has Logic Gates, you can literally XOR lfo's together and I need to say if you are seeing this video and thinking you want like to write songs on these that program change isn't currently implemented, but is a high priority on the roadmap.

If you like my music I have a bandcamp here https://avrilcadabra.bandcamp.com/
And you can find me on streaming services and socials also."

Audio Damage Introduces Descent Granulator

via Audio Damage

"Descent is a granular delay and reverb effect that transforms your audio into evolving, otherworldly textures. At its core, Descent captures incoming audio and breaks it into tiny grains—anywhere from a handful to dozens at once—then scatters them across time and pitch to create everything from subtle thickening and rhythmic delays to vast, frozen soundscapes and shimmering pitch-shifted clouds. With independent control over grain count, duration, overlap, and direction (forward, reverse, or random), combined with extensive randomization for pitch, pan, position, amplitude, and timing, Descent turns any sound source into a living, breathing texture. Whether you're adding shimmer to guitars, creating infinite sustain on synth pads, or designing abstract sonic environments, Descent delivers studio-quality granular processing with an intuitive interface and real-time FFT visualization.

Features

Granular engine with adjustable grain count (1–50 simultaneous grains), duration, overlap, and envelope shape for precise texture control.
Pitch shifting from -24 to +24 semitones with pitch quantization—lock transpositions to specific intervals for harmonically-correct shimmer, fifths, octaves, or any chromatic combination.
Six-axis randomization: independently randomize pitch, pan, position, amplitude, duration, and grain count for everything from subtle movement to complete chaos.
Direction control plays grains forward, reverse, or randomly mixed—perfect for tape-style effects, reverse swells, and glitchy textures.
High-feedback mode with diffusion control transforms delays into lush, reverb-like washes that never get harsh or out of control.
Tempo-sync or free-running modes let you lock grain timing to your session or let textures evolve organically.
Real-time FFT visualization shows your granular cloud evolving, making sound design intuitive and immediate.
35 factory presets covering shimmers, delays, reverbs, pitch effects, and experimental sound design to get you started instantly.
Cross-platform preset manager with XML-based presets compatible across all plugin formats and operating systems.

Sound Design Ideas

Add subtle depth with a few long grains and minimal randomization. Create rhythmic delays with short, quantized grains at high feedback. Build infinite sustain pads by freezing audio with high grain count and overlap. Design glitchy textures with extreme randomization and reverse grains. Craft shimmer effects by quantizing pitch shifts to octaves and fifths. Transform vocals into ethereal textures with diffusion and wide panning."

RetroSound Studio Tour: Vintage Digital Synthesizers

video upload by RetroSound

"RetroSound Studio Tour:
Legendary Vintage Digital & Hybrid Synthesizers of the 80s and early 90s

In this episode of RetroSound Studio, I explore classic digital synthesizers that revolutionized electronic music production during the 80s and early 90s. From FM synthesis and wavetable synthesis to vector synthesis, PD synthesis, vitual analog and Roland’s LA synthesis, these instruments introduced a new generation of sound design and defined the sonic identity of an era.

The Yamaha DX7 became one of the best-selling synthesizers of all time, defining FM electric pianos and metallic digital textures. The PPG Wave pioneered wavetable synthesis, laying the foundation for modern digital sound engines. The Sequential Prophet VS introduced vector synthesis, allowing dynamic blending between digital waveforms. The Roland D-50 shaped late-80s pop and film scoring with its LA synthesis architecture, while the Roland JD-800 brought hands-on control back to digital synthesis in the 1990s.

These digital synthesizers shaped genres such as synth-pop, new wave, ambient, house, techno, trance, and film music. Today, they remain highly sought after by producers, collectors, and sound designers researching vintage digital synthesizers, 80s keyboard sounds, virtual analog, classic FM synthesis, and wavetable history."

"This is essentially the same engine and same amazing sound quality as the ION synth. But some things were added... Alesis added a killer drum machine, a Sequencer and some new killer effects... all of which the ION did not have.

The sounds are amazing... simply the closest I have found to a real analog synth... Three multiwave oscillators, two killer filters, each of which have Roland Jupiter, Roland TB, Oberheim, Moog and MANY other choices of filters, even some as wild and Comb Filtering!

It all works and sounds great.. cosmetics are good but note the slider tip on one slider is missing .. slider still works great. Also, the main knob is a replacement.. also works great. Just stating for full disclosure."

LXR-02 gets Xeno'ed (no talk)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"In the last video I had the DB-01 going into the Nightverb reverb and then into the Xenodrive. This time it's a more conventional routing of the LXR-02 into the Xenodrive and then into the Nightverb. With the Nightverb early reflections, a little pre-delay and a careful amount of shape,it sudden;y came together. I was setting up for a completely different video idea but just had to capture this instead.

It's not all happy accidents though. First I tried Echolocator feedback into the Xeno and then Nightverb. Mildly interesting but even the Xeno couldn't rip the Echo feedback apart. And that's how it goes sometimes - you set everything up, twiddle up to 11 and you draw a blank. Sometimes I'll chew on it for days before admitting it was a rotten idea. I wasted the best part of two weeks recently on a looper pedal I bought and just couldn't get a single thing out of it. So sometimes when I don't post a video for a couple of weeks it's not because I'm too busy with cocktails and cigars, it's because my latest great idea just didn't produce anything worth your time.

Hopefully you'll agree that this little experiment with the LXR-02 was worthwhile. The LXR-02 remains one of my favorite machines. It has its flaws and is still desperately in need of another firmware update but I think it's a brilliant machine. Six assignable LFOs and multiple filters, deep editing and a tiny footprint: So much to love.

If this were a final production drum track I would definitely add a deep and clean bass drum from Hexdrums, but as usual I like to keep things well defined. Adding an external bassdrum would sound better but then you wouldn't be hearing pure LXR-02 / Xeno / Nightverb. My aim is to show you possibilities.

Many thanks to my kind patrons who keep this channel ad-free
