InsWorks MOAS SE01 controlando el InsWorks Esencial

Published on Dec 31, 2015 Carlos Alberto Gutiérrez Vera

Googlish:

"The MAS is a multifunctional module that includes: offset section, mixer, amplifier splitter and invested.

The Offset control has negative voltage to positive, scale control, input and inverted output CV.

The mixer has 4 inputs and an inverted output.

The Splitter has one input and 4 outputs

The amplifier has invested in and out

Additionally, the circuit has a switch to select whether to use a standardized mixer or output offset, yet if someone would only thing standard output is desired to use the inverted output of the mixer or the offset to the amplifier input invested."

THEREMIN - And This Is My Beloved

Published on Dec 31, 2015 Peter Pringle

"This song is from the hit 1953 musical, KISMET, with music adapted from the works of the Russian composer, Alexander Borodin. The story unfolds in old Baghdad, so I put myself in an appropriate fantasy decor! I am playing the 1929 RCA theremin once owned by the late Dr. Samuel Hoffman."

Strum - Modular Patch by Richard Devine

Strum - Modular Patch from Richard Devine on Vimeo.

"This was a patch experiment using the new Mutable Instruments Rings/Clouds Modules, and trying to create strumming/plucking guitar like sounds within a patch. The inspiration came from playing around with the Clouds Parasites 1.3 alternate firmware running in the Resonator mode highlighting the "scatter" (or strum) function. The master clock was the Tiptop Circadian Rhythms module, taking the first 4 outputs into my Nord Drum 2 for the Kick, snare, closed and open hi-hats. From there the clock output from the CR was multiplied and then sent to the Modcan Touch Sequencer. First row output from the TS was sent to the intellijel Shapeshifter creating a two note baseline sequence that comes in at 1:58. The second sequence Row2 output from the TS was sent to the "ALM Akemie's Castle" module OSC A output using the chord function, that comes in at 25 seconds. The gates from the modcan where set to a 16th's pulse sequence. Modulation from the synthesis technology E102 Quad Temporal Shifter output 1 modulating the Multiplier input on Operator 1. The 2, 3 and 4 outputs from the E102 where also modulating the Operator 2, 3, and 4 inputs on the Akemie's Castle. This was creating the harmonic timbre changing as the sequence was playing.

The slowly evolving sweeping noise textures that come in at 1:09 is from the Music Thing Radio Music module. The sample was a white noise sampled lightly filtered and then sent to the intellijel HexVCA with the amplitude CV control via a Intellijel Dixie modulating from slow to high rates (free running). The Make Noise Rene was being externally clocked from the Circadian Rhythm, and was sending out a quantized output to the Mutable Instruments Clouds pitch input creating the chord guitar sequence. The strum sounds on Clouds was played by the 4ms QCD running in 32th division output into the Trigger input. The freeze input was also triggered by a Ladik R-110 Random clock module. The combination of the two created the trill chord like strums.

The bass guitar tone sound that comes in at 1:24 are from the MakeNoise Mysteron, that is being sequenced by the Modcan Touch Sequencer, Row Output 3 was programmed in the same key but a lower octave. The "Rings" module was creating slow attack soft high pitched chords in reverb that come around 2:50. There was additional processing of the Clouds output that was sent into the Tiptop ZDSP module running the "Halls of Vahalla" card program 8 "Ginnungagap" creating the high pitch octave deep reverb shimmer effects. The harmonic slow swells that come in at 3:30 where created using another intellijel Dixie oscillator sine output running into an Strymon "Big Sky" pedal being harmonically controlled by an intellijel µScale V1. The output was being played slowly then processed using the "Choral" mode, creating the slow shimmer swells. The entire mix was sent into the Eventide Space pedal using the "Corridors" patch.

New Years Ambient Eve with Moog Werkstatt, Beatstep Pro, System 1m, Microbrute, Space Echo

Published on Dec 31, 2015 JimBobJrJackson Earmonkey

"Before I really explore the System 1m, I have to at least make some music with it. This piece features the System 1m playing a sequence from the Beatstep Pro. The Werkstatt provides the drone (at which it excels), and the Microbrute the lead. Of course everything is going through the Roland RE-301 Space Chorus, then into Valhalla Shimmer reverb in Ableton. This FX setup is totally killer. The Valhalla plugin is only $50 and totally worth it. The RE-301 was, well...more the $50, but also very worth it."

Roland Malekko System 500 noodles

Published on Dec 30, 2015 Muff Wiggler

"Another basic subtractive patch intended as an example of what the System 500 sounds like doing basic subtractive things. I included all the in between "setting up" the patch bits so you can hear all the little tweaks. Really it's just jamming though. nothing was planned. I found a sound i liked and then just changed sequencer speed, modulations etc.

the patch is oscillator to filter to VCA and the delay is multed from the VCA and has its own channel on the Sputnik mixer and gets taken out of the mix here or there. it's a short delay setting so is more of a wobbly chorus type sound when being modulated by internal LFO.

sequencer is the Xoac Moskwa 8 step sequencer running in a pendulum mode so it goes start to end and end to start and on and on. it triggers the System 500 envelopes and also has portamento that finds its way into the sequencer now and then."

Synth Tech E950 Patch with DIY Buchla 200

Published on Dec 30, 2015 djangosfire

"Set up an odd-time signature patch on the DIY Buchla 200r..... Using the new Synthesis Technology E950 'Circuit Bent VCO'.

The E950 is a combo whacky wavetable VCO that contains licensed tech from the original Texas Instruments LPC speech synthesizers (plus a pile of other amazing wavetables from the E350).

Basically a Speak & Spell from outer-space!

This was my 1st test patch.... what a great sounding module .... Complex timbres of nearly unlimited variation are possible.

Cheers!

A Few Sounds from the Malekko Roland 500 series

Published on Dec 29, 2015 Muff Wiggler

"little exploration of a simple patch with the Malekko Roland Series 500 eurorack modules. it's pretty basic.

audio path: oscillator -2 squares + 1 saw to filter to VCA to phaser
CV path: Malekko Richter noisering output 1 to osc pitch, clock out of noise ring triggers malekko roland Envelope which opens malekko roland VCA and also is mod input for the filter along with output 2 of the noisering

phaser is post VCA and wet/dry mix is manipulated throughout the video. sorry if it's phaser heavy. i like the phaser.

later in the video other mod sources are added and an attenuator is used on the noisering output 1 to scale note values."

There is a polyphonic pad in there via OSC-02 + QMMG, driven via midi. Clouds in Parasites resonator mode and Elements in chord mode are fed tones from E350, all pitched via CV from the Minibrute keyboard. The resulting cross modulations causes odd atmospheres to drift in and out.

Its one of those patches that has evolved over several days so, by this stage, I’ve lost track of exactly what is happening at each stage and I’m unlikely to ever be able to duplicate this again. So this is just a way of grabbing a little bit of time as it passes by."

"ID: stereo analog-like delay

Spacialization and delays are essential parts of the music making process. But have you ever experienced the spacialization power of an analog delay ? The SpaceBug is an analog-like delay featuring an additional LFO with variable speed and depth parameters as well as regeneration capabilities. With the SpaceBug, you will master space and time with only five knobs: space and time to set the delay, speed and depth for LFO modulations, and regen to regenerate the sound. SpaceBugs are great for live applications with their small size, their easy-to-use interface and their powerful unique sounds. With their analog warmth and modulation capabilities, SpaceBugs cannot be compared to other delays. It's more than that, it's a SpaceBug.

Note that SpaceBugs are not produced anymore!!!

Double Deka Sequence

Published on Dec 29, 2015 Richard Galbraith

"Taking a short break from my usual Renaissance recording, I decided to try something a little different. I recently got a Synthesizers.com quantizer bank (Q171). I don't have an analog sequencer, but I can use my SSL/Ian Fritz Double Deka oscillator as a 10 step sequencer. I can get three simultaneous lines out of it, which I've done here.

I used two Synthesizers.com Q106 oscillators and an Ian Fritz Teezer VCO (made by Free State FX). Filters used are synthesizers.com Q150, Q107, MOTM 480, and the MegaOhm Delta LPF.

I ran the outputs into separate instances of Valhalla Ubermod for delay, and then into an instance of Valhalla Room."

Ciat-Lonbarde Tocante - Zenert PHASHI solar powered synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"this is a small electronic instrument powered by solar energy... you can use it just about anywhere... and is a fantastic electronic object to play. take a search for "ciat lonbarde" and you will find some of the most unique instruments in the vein of the baschet brothers or the history of synths... these folks are magicians with low brow materials. there are three versions of the tocante - this one is the PHASHI...

here's some info:

Zenert is a simple name, deriving from the source of its noise, a zener diode, and the spectral flavoring applied by a simple resonant circuit, the twin-t. Its operation diverges from the previous Tocante pieces, where finger-touch simply connected oscillator outputs to an amplifier. In Zenert, finger-touch injects the zener noise into the inputs of the flavoring circuits. So instead of a number of discrete symbols at its rim, Zenert has a band of copper tracing, scripted to mimic the waveform of noise. The inner nodes, for circuit bending on Thyris, Bistab and Phashi, are now the injection points for each resonance. The resonators on Zenert share the same tuning-by-capacitor scheme, establishing continuity with the previous ones. Thus Tocante shares a two-faced nature with its nemesis, Ieaskul F. Mobenthey; looking backward to previous designs for the general framework and manifesto, but looking forward to new ways to break out of the mold.

The Tocante line of musical instruments is "about" and "touching" the materials of electronics. Each touchpad represents a pitch according to industry "preferred numbers," chosen by old wartime engineers for non-musical purposes. Here they form a unique and haunting musical scale, not unlike that of a gamelan or the neutral intervals of Persian music. Beyond these base pitches, three golden sandrodes flank each touchpad; touching these androgynous nodes yields intermodulation, pitch and timbral shifts, and emergent chaotic masses. The instruments come in three flavors: thyris the triangle, bistab the square, and phashi the circle. The oscillators sound like a bowed string, a most powerful clarinet, and a howling serene whistle, respectively. Each responds to touch differently. Solar panels charge the onboard batteries, that power the oscillators and a speaker. They are the perfect self-contained instrument for nightly music at the campground.

Technical Details

-Dimensions: 28x8x2 centimeters.
-Range: 24 notes, four octaves.
-Power: 6x300mah NiMH cells.
-Diffusion: 0.5watt speaker.
-Output: 3.5mm mono audio jack.
-Cloudy Day: 2.1mm tip-positive 12vdc power jack (not included)."

Iron Ether - Pithoprakta - Trigger / Gate Sequencer

Published on Dec 29, 2015 simon

"Here's an overview of the soon to be released Pithoprakta by Iron Ether, the renowned purveyor of stunning effects pedals.
This is Iron Ether's first foray into making Eurorack modules... and it's a belter.
Please note, this video features the pre-production panel, it will look different to the finished article.

I kept everything pretty simple throughout so that it's easy to tell what's going on, and for the main part I just used it to trigger the drums of my old Syncussion DRM-1.

0:00 - Triggering drums.
2:48 - Triggering drums, with CV control over Probability.
3:06 - Triggering drums, with CV control over Probability, and CV control over Looping.
4:10 - Triggering envelopes for Akemie's Castle, and CV out to Akemie's Castle.
4:58 - CV out to oscillator.
5:45 - CV out to oscillator, and triggering drums.
6:57 - Gates mixed, quantised and sent to Oscillator.
7:54 - Gates mixed, quantised and sent to Oscillator, and CV out to filter cutoff.
9:00 - Clocked at audio rate with 8 outputs sent to a 8 way switch.
11:30 - END"

"Pithoprakta is a probabilistic gate/trigger sequencer, able to create 8 channels of gates or triggers whose probability/density can be defined by the panel controls and/or CVs. The looping function will loop up to 64 steps, the loop length being CV-controllable in powers of 2, and an external gate signal can be used to enter/exit looping seamlessly.

The Probabilities of Channel 1 and 8 are defined directly by the panels controls/respective CV inputs. The other 6 channels' probability levels are interpolated from these two values, so if channel 1 is at 10% and channel 8 is at 80%, channel 2 is 20%, channel 3 is 30%, etc. The thinking behind this is that it allows you to have 8 channels with different probability, or the same if you choose, which can be controlled by just two modulators, rather than requiring a separate modulator for each channel - good for smaller systems or if you just don't want to tie up a ton of modulation sources just to control this one module.

Div mode clocks the 8 outputs, each with a different division of the input clock - divide-by-two down to divide-by-sixteen. The upper 4 channel outputs are "on beats" and the lower 4 channels are "off beats," allowing the user to easily create drummer-like rhythms which evolve over time or improvise infinitely.

Once loop mode is active, the Probability controls become "probability of change," in other words they control the likelihood that a given step of the loop will be overwritten, rather than whether that step is on or off. To keep from deleting the loop as soon as one enters looping mode, the probability controls are ignored when entering loop mode until the user turns them down to 0% and back up.

Ideas for usage
Create rhythms that sound like an improvising human drummer, without resorting to preset sequences. Beats can evolve over time in a way you control.

via this auction

"Up for sale is a vintage EML ElectroComp 500 synthesizer / keyboard with a hard case. It is in fair cosmetic condition; lots of scratches and flaws consistent with heavy, not-always-careful use. The photos tell the story; there's nothing worse than what's pictured here. I've just been through it, and functionally I'd say it's in fair-to-good condition. Key contacts are all good with the exception of the D above middle C, which will need to be cleaned (it often fires on release as well as initial contact). It needs to be scaled. The sliders are all pretty quiet and move freely, though they feel a little inconsistent and gritty. Filter sweeps are reasonably linear and clean, and sample & hold functionality is excellent. As is, it makes the Devo 'Whip It' noise with grace and ease, and you can play Weezer solos until the end of time. With a bit of work it could be very, very nice; it's definitely all there."

Dreadbox Hades Bass Synth Review

Published on Dec 29, 2015 ProckGnosis

"Review of the Dreadbox Hades Bass Synthesizer, broken down into 4 parts:
Part 1. Oscillators (02:29)
Part 2. The Filter (04:29)
Part 3. The Drive Knob (08:06)
Part 4. The Rest (09:46)

Included in Part 4 is some screwing around with some bass sounds that starts at 11:04.

I mention it a couple times in the video, but this synth is in no way limited to just bass synth duties, though it does fill that niche quite well. And unlike the Moog Minotaur (which is strangely limited from playing in higher ranges), you CAN play higher octaves with the Hades.

Great construction quality, great sound, and great price (around $300 or 300 euros), and (not shown in the video) it excellently complements my Dreadbox Erebus, even connecting as a third paraphonic voice."

One Half Of One Million

Published on Dec 28, 2015 John L Rice

Congrats to John L Rice!

"Another bit of messing around, this time with a lot of Modcan modules.

The 'sequence' was created with all 4 outputs of a Modcan 66B Control into to two Modcan 55B quantizers whose output fed 4 Synth Tech MOTM-300 VCOs. The VCO saw outputs were passed through 2 Happy Nerding FUN VCFs for a little fixed filtering and then on to a Modcan 31B quad VCA which was controlled by a Modcan 60B quad EG and the mixed output of the VCA was run through a Modcan 73B dual delay before getting to the final line mixer, a Samson SM10. The EG and quantizers were gated by a Moon Modular 568+568A trigger sequencer setup and the 568 and 73B were clocked from a Modcan 53B clock.

The Mellotron M4000D was noodled by hand but while some of its output went right to the SM10 mixer, it was also routed out to a Modcan 40B dual multimode VCF, that was being modulated by a Synth Tech MOTM-380 LFO, and the 40B's output was sent through a Club Of The Knobs (COTK) C1660 VC Phase Processor before returning to two inputs on the SM10 mixer.

Strymon BigSky and Roland RSP-550 reverbs were used on the SM10 mixer's effects loops and a little bit of reverb plug-in was used in Sony Music Studio during editing.

Thank you again everyone! :-) I hope to do a lot more in 2016 including increasing performance and production quality and maybe even finally getting one or more albums released . . . FINALLY! ;-) Have a happy and productive New Year, all!"

Published on Dec 28, 2015 V. Kulla

"First test of a rare soviet faemi-m synth from the 70´s...tremolo, vibrato from synth. Starting with a dry sound and when i start sweeping the eq i also start adding some reverb and distortion. Sound is recorded through a soundcraft mixer into a focusrite scarlett interface."

"What does the Sampleslicer do?

The Sampleslicer is a real-time monophonic sampler, including a 16 step voltage-controlled sequencer. The incoming sound is chopped up automatically into 16 parts by the incoming clock signal and spread out over the16 steps in the internal sequencer.

How long can it sample?

The length of the recorded sample is set by a clock-divider, so the recording time is always linked to the incoming clock signal. You can choose between time divisions of 1, ½, ⅓, ¼ and ⅛.

If the divider is set to 1 the total sample time is equal to 16 incoming clock-pulses.

If set to ½ the sample length is equal to 8 incoming clock-pulses, spread over 16 slices (so half the time). It will produce even more glitchy fun when set to ⅓, as it will spread 6 steps over 16 slices. The maximum sample time is about 15 seconds and the minimum sample time is a fraction of a second for granular noises."
