"The Erica Synths Syntrx is an homage to the EMS Synthi - a beautiful experimental vintage analog synthesizer. The Syntrx does a great job of capturing the vibe. Recorded directly from the synth with no post-processing."

"100%" Series

tritonrecordings

Playlist:

1. 100% DX7
A track by Rob Parker featuring the Yamaha DX7 as the sole sound source. Processed with an old Lexicon MX300. This was the first "100%" song I did in 2011 and was released on a short EP I did in 2014 called ""iMinimalist."
2. 100% Minimoog Voyager
A track by Rob Parker featuring the Moog Voyager as the sole sound source. NOTE: If you're listening on a phone or anything with a mono/summed mono device. Somehow, certain sounds like the snare are out of phase between left and right channels. I no longer have the multi-track files of this song so I can't correct it. Put in some earbuds, headphones, or best of all, some decent speakers on a desktop to get the best experience. It's Moog after all; you wanna hear that girth.
3. 100% MS-20 Mini
A track by Rob Parker featuring the Korg MS-20 Mini as the sole sound source. I'm not sure what I was going for here. Is it dubstep? Anyway, nothing will ever top the MS-2o Mini song by Koishistyle - check that out!
4. 100% Gaia SH-01
A track by Rob Parker featuring the Roland Gaia SH-01. What an awful name for a synth, let alone a song. I really should have left it out, but this was on the first trip-hop record I did called "Fathomer," which is here on the channel. This was my first knobby synth along with a blue SH-101.
5. 100% M1
A track by Rob Parker featuring the Korg M1 as the only sound source. When I think of the M1, I think of early 90's house/dance music. Thusly, I made the most stereotypical 90's dance track possible...
6. 100% K1
I tried shooting for an 80's EBM feel for this one. The K1 can be a difficult synth to work with but the sound is certainly unique. Like it sounds good until you try to use it in a mix, but when it does work, it's great."

"I used to own an original RSF kobol and this unit is spot on, probably the best bass Ive ever heard and fits into a mix better than a minimoog. I think they may be just as rare if not more so than the original kobols. The sweepable waveforms allow you to tweak the frequencies to a perfect spot when the cutoff is down so you can fit the notes right into a frequency pocket. I would say it sounds something like a minimoog and a pro one had a baby. Sync sounds great as well. This unit is in its own powered stand alone boat but but can also be racked as a giant 5u module, in perfect cosmetic and working order."

Anyma Phi - Physical Modeling Synthesizer by Aodyo

Details via the Kickstarter campaign:

"An affordable hybrid monophonic synthesizer that allows you to create new sound universes inspired from the real world, where objects collide, vibrate, and resonate

Anyma Phi blends the classic ingredients of electronic music with physical modeling technology, allowing it to simulate acoustic sound sources, such as strings or reeds, as well as resonating structures, like wood, glass, or metal. Anyma Phi is compact enough to stand on your keyboard, or anywhere on your desk, and is compatible with any MIDI controller, such as keyboards, sequencers, or even wind controllers, including our own Sylphyo! [see posts here]

Whether you play live or record in the studio, design sounds or play presets, Anyma Phi will become an indispensable tool. It can even be used as a stand-alone effects processor, or as part of a guitar effects pedal setup.

The heart of the Anyma Phi is the matrix, which provides a quick and easy way to explore your sounds by following a physical metaphor, with four macros for each of the five stages of sound generation.

With its matrix, Anyma Phi offers a straightforward way to tweak, explore, and create sound universes. It also provides easy ways to make your sound react to your MIDI controllers with mapping shortcuts. But don't be fooled by the simplicity!

If you want to dive deeper, you can take control of the powerful semi-modular synth engine beyond the matrix, with oscillators covering a wide range of synthesis techniques, effects, and modulators.

By connecting those together, you can create any kind of sound, and control it any way you want.

Specs:

Hybrid monophonic synthesizer

Stereo audio output:
- Two 1/4” mono line jack outputs
- One 1/4” stereo headphone jack output

Stereo audio input:
one 1/4” stereo input

MIDI inputs and outputs via USB and DIN ports

Powerful digital semi-modular synthesizer engine

- Memory: 63 patches

- 3 oscillator slots

- 5 effect slots + 1 mono reverb

- 2 audio buses for mixing and effect assignation

- 8 modulator slots, including DAHDSR envelope generators, LFOs, curves, interpolators, slew limiters, etc.

- 24 mapping slots, each allowing to control any synth parameter (including another mapping) using a modulator or a controller input, with a sidechain input.

*Technical specifications subject to change in order to improve reliability, function, or design."

via this auction

"The JD-800 is Roland's answer to half a decade of hard to program synthesizers. Covered in sliders that act as dedicated editors just like a classic analog synth, the JD-800 is an extremely programmable and hands on digital synthesizer. It is also an interesting and great sounding digital synth with incredible flexibility and control. Internal ROM based wave forms are combined to build your sounds. The sounds are based on Roland's D-50, but updated for the nineties with multi mode filters - uncommon but welcome at the time.

The JD-800 came in a tough metal case capped off on the sides with large plastic covers.Programming may be a little too flexible for some users, but once you know what you're doing with it, almost any sound you can dream up can be dialed in and stored."

How dark it can be - Korg MonoPoly

"Small Jam with Korg MonoPoly"

2 x Circuit Bent Stylophones synced with a modular synthesizer system

Tasos Stamou

"Two stylophones linked to a modular synth system, receiving CV signals for pitch, filter."

via https://www.tasosstamou.com
This instrument is the result of years of research while intensively hacking the Stylophone into extreme levels of manipulation, towards the production of an analogue synthesizer.

The evolution of this research has concluded into this tiny beast which can be used in many different ways. Besides a very powerful noisy and melodic standalone synth keyboard and drone generator, the new generation is fully compatible to the modular synthesizers’ standards of controls.

The Stamouphone in capable of interacting with a eurorack modular synthesizer system as an extra synth voice, via accurate CV, VCF and gate voltage inputs.

Furthermore, It is equipped with its own very special 2-way filter.

Here is a list of all the hacks:
1. Extreme pitch control (really low range towards rhythmic patterns)
2. 2 x sustain switches, works as a synth voice
3. CV input
4. CV gain knob
5. Gate input
6. 2 way “Stamou” filter, with frequency and resolution knobs
7. 3 x contact point pins, sensible to the filter
8. VCF input
9. Amplified Output (modular synth volume level)

Korg Wavestate Sound Bank for Berlin School and Ambient

Waveformer

"Waveformer presents a new Sound Bank for Korg Wavestate "Berlin School and Ambient Construction Kit" available for purchase from https://gumroad.com/waveformer.

This sound bank is the result of four months of programming the wonderful Korg Wavestate synthesizer. It consists of 20 Performances inspired by the classic sound of the Berlin School of Electronic Music.

All Performances are 100% original and were programmed from scratch, using all four layers. Most of the Performances combine Arpeggiators with Wave Sequences to create generative patterns where you use the keyboard to feed in the notes and let the Arpeggiators and Wave Sequences juggle notes and automate parameters. They are built to be tweaked and twisted while playing, drastically modifying the melodic, rhythmic and sonic content. Each Performance is described in depth in the included user manual, with suggestions for both playing techniques and knob-tweaking strategies."

via this auction

"Powertran Transcendent 2000 Analogue Synthesizer. Monophonic, so not possible to play chords on the keyboard. Testing this unit leads to the conclusion that a bit of setting-up and calibrating is required.
A home built kit from 1978, it has been working in the early days and put to good use. Now left unwanted and unused.
The original construction article with full instructions to build and calibration is supplied. Not all components used in the construction are as specified and the power cord and switch have been replaced by a Euro-style input socket and cable is supplied. The main printed circuit board, metalwork, cabinet and keyboard are the origanals as supplied by Powertran.
A known problem is that a few of the contact spring sets to the keyboard are out of alignment and I presume to be fixable. One of the wooden side panels has been split and badly repaired by my younger self (Shame on me) see image. Although not shown on the images, the metal base plate is included

The Transcendent 2000 was seen to be a great synthesizer in the early electronic music era, especially by those that wanted to have a good and low-cost instrument."

Roland D2 Compact Performance Groovebox Sequencer / Sound Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Roland's D2 Groovebox is a compact, performance-oriented Groovebox (sequencer/sound module)--sort of a smaller MC-505--designed entirely around Roland's D-Field Controller technology. This touch-sensitive pad makes it easy to program and modify patterns, sounds, effects and more simply by touching the surface. It has all of the 505's sounds and a similar sequencer with 150 all-new patterns including the latest 2-Step and R&B styles.

The D-Field controller at the heart of the D2 (also featured on the V-Synth) offers three distinct modes: SOUND makes playing patterns and sound effects easy by touching the D-Field; XY provides simultaneous control over two parameters (e.g. filter cutoff + resonance); SPIN creates turntable-style effects by tracing the pad in a circular motion.

The D2 has more than enough sounds inside, with 600 Preset patches and 30 Preset drum kits from the MC-505. These dance-oriented sounds include ultra-fat bass and lead synths, screaming TB-303's, dance piano and strings, plus 30 floor-pounding drum kits. Phrase/Groove loops are also plentiful with 150 patterns plus 240 RPS (Realtime Phrase Sequence) patterns. There is a new Step Recording method using the D-Field and 32 LEDs as well. Separate Reverb, Delay and Multi-FX sections with Groove-oriented algorithms add space and effects to your sounds & grooves. And with the D2's Megamix function, it's easy to remix patterns into your own creations using the D-Field or Value dial."

YAMAHA DX5 - Ambient piano music soundscape | Synthesizer demo

synth4ever

"Yamaha DX5 ambient piano music soundscape and synthesizer demo. This Yamaha DX5 ambient chillout song features the Yamaha DX5 FM synth + Eventide Timefactor delay and Space reverb effects.

In this piece I used the Yamaha DX5 to create a somber mood via a portamento lead patch, rhythmic delays and reverb. The Yamaha DX5 was in dual mode which layered two patches at once, for two distinct sounds. This is showcased via industrial noise sounds that come in midway through the piano improvisation.

The Yamaha DX5 is a classic FM synthesizer that enables creative applications, especially when mixing and matching various patches during a performance. As such I tried to create an ambient soundscape that reflected a more emotional state, especially considering the difficult times we are in today.

Hope you enjoy the music and Yamaha DX5 synth demo."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #101: Kasser DAFM Synth - Song 2

Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the second song with the DAFM Synth. It's an FM synthesizer based on either the YM2612 yamaha chip (used in SEGA Genesis / Megadrive home consoles and various SEGA arcade game systems, including the Mega-Play, System 18, and System 32) or the cleaner sounding YM3438 chip (as in my DAFM) without the crossover distortion in the output. Both sound chips has six channels with four operators per channel.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
DAFM - DigiTech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

You can find aditional DAFM posts here.

Making generative music on IOS | SynthFest

SynthFest France

"Self-generating experimental music. No external controller. Only music apps, triggered by real time MIDI event generators. The FRMS application (multi-layer granular synthesizer) receives MIDI notes from an instance of Fugue Machine. The second instance of Fuge Machine generates events for Skaka (percussion sound module). The groove box DrumComputer loops on a beat with some random modulations. A melody (glassy sound) is generated by the Kronecker synthesizer which receives events from Autony (a semi-random MIDI event generator). The second Autony generator controls the melody (string) played by Aparillo. The whole thing is mixed in AUM and recorded for 4 minutes."

Haken Continuum/EaganMatrix - Morphing WaveBank Pad & Morphing Church Organ Demos

EaganMatrix Programming

"Another morphing preset I'm working on. This one morphs in various ways between two WaveBanks, one set to Saw and the other Square. Shape Generators (SGs) are used to move in and out of the two banks at different rates and there is a bit of shifting between them on Y as well. A big analog Echo is added with additional dynamic convolution change imposed under SG control."

Haken Continuum/EaganMatrix - Morphing Church Organ Demo
EaganMatrix Programming

"Working on a bunch of Morphing Presets for Haken Continuum / EaganMatrix. This one is an organ model that randomly cuts in partials. A pedal controls the speed at which the partials kick in and a separate control is set to Pedal 2 that brings in a Sub-bass and octave beneath the Fundamental (which can be statically set for two octaves below or a fifth below if desired). A small amount of detuning is also used that creates a bit of beating adding more dynamic motion."

Five Minutes of Pink Oyster Mushroom Playing Modular Synthesizer

MycoLyco

"Through the magic or rather science of bio data sonification, this flush of oyster mushrooms get a shot at playing a eurorack modular synthesizer before they become my dinner. Electrical resistance is measure by passing a small current through the mushrooms similar to a lie detector test. The changes in resistance are then converted into control signals which determine the rhythm, pitch, timbre and effects parameters of the modular synthesizer.

Longer pink oyster mushroom videos coming later this week, and the audio will be in stereo! Make sure to like, subscribe and hit that notification bell. Especially if you read this far!! Thanks for all the support you all rock."

Yamaha CS-50 Previously Owned by LCD Soundsystem?

via this auction

"This CS-50 was previously owned by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and housed at DFA for over a decade before it was gifted to John MacLean. You can see it on the DFA records facebook picture history in several shots. It is also featured in Attack Magazine (linked below). According to John it was used on basically every album by artists on the label from 2002 until around 2017 including LCD, Juan, Holy Ghost! etc. but he said it was "a nightmare to upkeep" so he sold it. It was never toured, aside from a handful of MSG shows about a mile from the studio. I told him I guess there isn't a good CS tech in NYC.

Mystery Circuits in Chapel Hill who is arguably the best service shop for vintage synthesizers in the nation completely overhauled the CS-50 in 2018 rebuilding the power supply, recapping all electrolytic capacitors throughout, future proofing the after touch and swapped genuine rebuilt M cards pulled from a CS-80 doner. You could tour with this CS-50 if you wanted to and have zero issues. Being a previous CS-80 owner, I can attest that this CS-50 sounds every bit as good as my old CS-80. It utilizes the same exact cards. It's about 160 lbs lighter than a CS-80 and with that weight loss you only lose the presets, ribbon strip, and 4 voices.

The cosmetic condition is very good, especially for its age. I would say 8.5 out of 10. No structural issues, but it does have a few small marks here and there. I have documented the cosmetic condition accurately in the pictures.

This listing includes the original lid and original legs."

Update: it's worth noting on a CS80 you get two layers or voices per patch, while with the CS50 and CS60 you only get one. You can select two different patches to layer on the CS80. Aside from the other differences noted, a CS50 and CS80 voice is essentially half a voice on the CS80.

"This is my latest DIY synthesizer. A V4 TTSH connected to a Toraiz Squid. Basically, this just demonstrates how these synths sound with just 3 VCOs, one of which is also providing a sub-oscillator. Well, here's a quick explanation since i use it in a lot of sound design. its such a basic synthesis thing, and rarely makes a difference, but its surely important to know. "The SK-1 has 4 voices and percussion. Each voice is made up from an audio signal and an envelope control signal, which are combined to give the end voice. This module allows you to switch on or off any of the 4 voice audio paths, any of the 4 envelope control signals and the percussion. The patch panel then lets you have for instance, voice 2 under the envelope control for voice 4. You can then patch the percussion audio into the envelope control for one of the voices, which gives sustain effects or patch it into the audio signal and it gates the percussion with the keys, so the percussion sounds only while a certain voice is active. You can even swap the audio and envelope control signals over, which gives a buzzing / click type noise when you press a key.

Audio Filters / Level
This module modifies the filters where the envelope control signal and the audio signal are combined to make the end voice. The knob is in 2 stages where it controls the level of the audio signal, but keep turning it and it then affects the filter. The control will take the tone and ‘squash’ it so for instance the bass line in the demo song, rather than a contiuous note turns into a blip, or stacatto effect.

Analog Memories | 0-Coast + 0-Ctrl + Doepfer A151 sequential switch

Cinematic Laboratory

"Someone was wondering if it would be useful to have two 0-Ctrl units, looking for an excuse to get another one. He was wondering if it would be possible to extend the 8 step sequence to 16. Since I do not have two 0-ctrl's lying around, I used my Brains/PressurePoints combo (the 0-Pressure) to do this experiment. Unfortunately I could not find a way to make one stop and the other one continue. I am not sure it can be done.

However, if you're looking to extend your sequence, getting a 'sequential switch' would be a lot more helpful. The Doepfer A151 can switch between four input signals when it receives a gate, which makes it a perfect companion for your 0-ctrl. I used it to extend the sequence from 8 to 16. Adding the 0-Pressure extended it to 32 and ultimately to 128. But with so many untuned notes, you should make a Krell patch or use a quantizer..."

Artificial Noise Key Control - Desktop MIDI Note Quantizer gets an OS Update & a New Lower Price

via Artificial Noise

"Artificial Noise is excited to announce a new lower price to the Key Control, now only $179 plus shipping! Along with the new lower price we now offer a more flexable Operating System, one that is geared more for MIDI quantizing duties.

The Key Control is a MIDI device that maps your keyboard controller, synthesizer or sequencer to a chosen Key and Scale. All MIDI note data will automatically be moved into the desired Key & Scale. Choose between 11 scales and all 12 keys.

NEW OS FOR THE KEY CONTROL!!

The original OS in the Key Control used the white keys on a keyboard for single notes in a key/scale, and the black keys to play chords. But after using the Key Control for a while I noticed that I wasn't using the chord function at all, since playing chords manually was easier (see our website on how easy it is to make chords). More than that, I ended up wishing that I could use the Key Control as a general MIDI quantizer, something that I could use with sequencers and arpeggiators.

The problem with the original OS was that if I was using a sequencer and I transposed it - some notes would be transposed up (natural notes), for others a chord would be sent out. As an example, if I had a C in my sequence and I transposed it up a semitone, the output note would not be C# but a chord!

So, I changed the OS for myself to only output note data and loved it! Now, instead of chords on the black keys (sharp/flat notes) it will output the notes nearest to the left. And now that I'm bringing the Key Control back into production, I've decided to make the new OS standard as it makes it much more useful in a MIDI environment.

The Key Control is easy to operate, simply hook up the Key Control between your keyboard controller (or other MIDI output equipped gear) and your desired MIDI destination ( ie. computer, synthesizer, sequencer, etc) via standard 5-Pin MIDI DIN cables. Or put your synthesizer in "Local OFF" mode and send the MIDI out from your synth through the Key Control and back into the synth, to always play 'in key.'

With a fast and easy 2 knob interface, you can quickly dial in one of a possible 132 possible key and scale combinations and get down to making music fast and with no fuss.

In “Chromatic” mode, all 127 MIDI notes are passed through unchanged, while the “Key” knob will transpose the incoming MIDI notes up to 11 semi-tones.

MIDI notes are changed depending on the Key & Scale chosen, but all other MIDI data passes through unchanged, with low latency and fast operation.

Compact but tough aluminum case.
