Embrace of nothing | Sequential Prophet 10, Prophet 12, Nord Drum 2, and Toraiz Squid downtempo

video upload by MIDERA

"I finally scanned in over 7700 photos of my parents and their lives. It was so nice to see them again, happy, exploring. Somewhere in there it all changed, but they still looked and seemed happy. So many times I'd see a photo and just stare at it for a few minutes, as though I'd been hit by something. Like seeing them arrive at their first motel on their honeymoon. Or seeing photos from the 70s and then the 00s when they went to the same cabin. It was clearly a world that just hung so close to me, but I never saw it. By the time I could get to know them in this capacity - they were both gone.

Now that I have my studio back - I can finally start writing music again. I pulled out the Cirklon. As you can see, I didn't use the Cirklon here. My goodness that thing just antagonizes me at every turn. I know I need to give it more time, but after two days using it, I put it away and within an hour, I had something I was enjoying making and playing.

Bree6 Custom Factory Patches by SYNTH_NYC

via SYNTH_NYC

"GS Music commissioned me to create 64 Custom Factory Presets for their new discreet analog polyphonic synthesizer, the Bree6.

Those presets are available for free as a factory bank coming up with the synth.

You can listen to them in high resolution (24bit 96kHz PCM WAV masters, FLAC encoded) on my site (optimized for Chrome on MacOS and Windows).

All presets have PB, MW, AT/PAT and Velocity configured, except the last one which has MPE configured additionally (Bree6 should be in MPE mode for this one) for the best possible expressivity.

It's impossible to make a bad patch with the Bree6! With or without subtractive synthesis knowledge, you can make a great sounding patch in no time. The Bree6 is the 2nd discreet analog polyphonic synthesizer released by GS Music (following the e7), it has those notable improvements:

- Poly Aftertouch (it responds to Channel AT as well without having to change anything on the synth, and MPE by configuration change)
- Detune (voice detune)
- Poly Stereo (hard panning per voice on L/R channels), Poly ('center' on both L/R channels) output modes
- Larger display
- Only 1 'Shift' parameter (the Sub Oscillator On/Off feature)
- Very few 'Menu' parameters (only the MW, Velocity, AT/PAT and MPE sources / targets / amounts in the Control Menu; and Transpose, PB Range, Preset Level, Unison Interval in the Preset Menu), so it's really WYSIWYH (What You See Is What You Hear).

It was a pleasure crafting those 64 FREE Custom Factory Presets for the Bree6, I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them and that they will bring value and inspiration to yours music."

Introducing D2MS - The Augmented Drumming Sandbox For Monome Norns

video upload by D2MS Script

D2MS Tutorials

video uploads by D2MS Script

Details follow:

"D2MS (Drums 2 Midi Synths, Samplers, Sequencers…Something) is an Augmented Drumming script for the Monome Norns platform.

Born of an online collaboration between two Lines Forum (https://llllllll.co/) users phillwilson (MyOneManBand) and Illges.

D2MS is a sandbox environment for taking the velocity and gestural data from regular drum triggers, drum pads and e-drums. It allows drummers to use their regular playing to drive sequences of notes and execute a huge range of performance altering functions.

D2MS was built from the ground up with improvisation in mind, so there are “quick creation” features all over it, to randomise and remix midi data live.

Users can play a 'full band' performance from behind the drums and all editing and set design can be handled through a custom layout on the Norns Grid interface.

Key Features

· Use up to 16 inputs (incoming midi notes from pads, triggers etc)

· Each input can control up to 5 machine layers (MIDI note driving units) and 5 Trig Layers (utilities that modify a performance)
· Over 10 Machine types including;
Basic –For playing melodies
Riff – Ideal for bass-lines
Chord – Great for pads
Fixed – For non-chromatic samples and percussion
Strum – A semi-manual arpeggios
Stack – A rotating chord pack
…And many more

· Over 12 Trig Types including;
Conductor – To move between patterns and change instruments
Direction – To change playback order
Fill - To randomize note sequences
CC – To turn things such as Midi FX on and off dynamically
Gears – To create cascades of movement

…And many more

Roland SH-2 vs SH-09 comparison (no talking)

video upload by thesrabbit

"The SH-2 GAS could not be resisted and I so I caved. I decided to compromise with the SH-09, but I bought an SH-2 the day after I ordered the 09. Lucky for me the SH-2 showed up in great condition for its age, with nothing to complain about, while the SH-09 had several significant issues, some of which you can hear in this video (especially the horrendous pulse width pop), so I didn't feel guilty about returning it immediately after shooting this. It was in my possession for less than 24 hours.

Now after having done this mostly pointless comparison, I can say that if a well functioning SH-09 came into my possession, I would not be sad about it. Being able to modulate the filter with external audio, without having to hear that audio is pretty great. I really, really wish the SH-2 had that ability. I do like the additional sub osc options of the 09 as well. Other than that, the rest of the sonic differences come from the SH-2's second oscillator, which includes the somewhat unique sine wave type. And that's really it, everything else sounds damn near identical to me. Let me know if you disagree.

I have the VCAs set to gate mode which is why there's so much clickyness. I wanted to experience the full weight of each synth. I tried to make sure the levels were as close as possible. The is absolutely zero processing of the audio, apart from whatever YT will do to it."

Press release follows:

After extensive research and dedicated efforts from our team, GS Music is proud to unveil the Bree6, our latest breakthrough in synthesizer technology. The Bree6 is a straightforward synthesizer offering six voices of polyphony, each equipped with a single voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and a sub oscillator. It has been meticulously developed to meet the needs of both studio and performance environments. The Bree6 features a fully analog signal path that includes a 4-pole low-pass voltage-controlled ladder filter (VCF), and a voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA). The control signals are digitally generated, incorporating one low-frequency oscillator (LFO) and two ADSR- type envelope generators. Additionally, the Bree6 integrates an effects processor with chorus and delay.

Designed for straightforward operation, the Bree6 provides intuitive access to its full capabilities without complex menus, making it accessible to both seasoned professionals and those new to synthesis.

No Menu Diving

The Bree6 interface is engineered for straightforward and intuitive use, ensuring easy access to its robust features, including MIDI connections, USB, balanced stereo audio outputs, headphone output.

Signal Path

The signal path in the Bree6 is entirely analog, comprising a single VCO per voice, a sub oscillator, a mixer, a 4-pole low-pass ladder VCF, and a VCA. The control voltages are digitally generated, featuring one LFO and two ADSR-type envelope generators. It also features a stereo digital effects processor with delay and chorus.

Oscillators
The Bree6 features a single VCO plus a sub oscillator per voice. The oscillator includes sawtooth and pulse waveforms, with pulse width modulation control that can be
modulated by the LFO. The oscillator tuning can be adjusted, and modulation can be applied from the LFO. The sub oscillator generates a square wave one octave below the main oscillator.

Filter
The Bree6’s filter is a 4-pole ladder-type low-pass filter with resonance control. It can be modulated by EG1, with velocity affecting the modulation depth, and can also be modulated by the LFO. It can also be controlled by the modulation wheel and aftertouch.

Chorus and Delay
The synthesizer offers a stereo ensemble type chorus effect. It simulates a string or vocal ensemble using multiple delay lines modulated by their dedicated LFOs.
The stereo delay can reach a maximum delay time of up to 1 second.

LFO
The Bree6 contains one LFO with selectable waveforms (triangle, ramp up, ramp down, square, and random with sample and hold). The LFO’s frequency can be set from 0.1Hz
to 100Hz, and modulation can be applied to the VCO, VCF, and VCA.

Envelope Generators
There are two ADSR-type envelope generators in the Bree6, designed for precise control over the dynamics of both the filter and the amplifier.

MIDI Polyphonic Expression
The synthesizer supports MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE), facilitating detailed performance dynamics when used with compatible MPE controllers. We’ve carefully
tested the Bree6 with Osmose, Linnstrument, and Geoshred.

Elastika Metal Resonance patch with MetaModule

video upload by 4ms Company

"External Audio Path:
-Main audio outputs on channel 1 and 2

Internal Audio Path:

-A VCO’s four main wave shapes are ran into a scanner which allows the user to crossfade between different wave shapes.
-The output of the crossfader goes into a shaped dual envelope VCA where a simple decay envelope is applied.
-The patch then runs into an Elastika Sapphire, where modal synthesis is applied.
-The output of the sapphire is ran through a dry/wet with the output of the VCO.
-The output of the crossfader then runs into a Mid/Side encoder/decoder to manipulate the stereo field.
-The output of the Mid/Side is fed into a valley plateau reverb
-The entire patch then goes through a limiter for volume protection.

Internal CV Path:
-Two triangle wave LFOs are cross modulated with one another and are processed by a sample and hold (LFO1 = clock, LFO2 = sample).
-Before LFO2 hits the sample and hold it is crossfed with white noise to allow random deviations of voltage to be sampled.
-The output of the S&H is used to control the pitch of VCO as well as scramble all of the parameters on the Elastika Sapphire.

MetaModule knob mappings:

A - LFO1 Frequency (clock)
B - LFO2 Frequency (sample)
C - LFO1 CV attenuverter
D - LFO2 CV attenuverter
E - Triangle/white noise crossfader for sample and hold
F - VCO main frequency
U - VCO attenuverter
V - Waveshape: crossfader for main waveshapes of VCO.
W - Decay time for main VCO pitch
X - Dry/Wet for Elastika.
Y - Reverb Dry/Wet
Z - Reverb decay time.

"The AX-60 is a really special polyphonic synthesizer. Akai's answer to the Roland Juno Series, it can hit those sounds well but actually has quite a lot of extra features when comparing to a Juno-106.

First, this is a VCO synth and the oscillator section includes a triangle wave as well as a dedicated pulse width LFO. Additionally, pulse width can be applied to any wave! There are two envelopes, an LFO with sample and hold, and the ability to FM the filter with the oscillator. It even has built in chorus that sounds just like the BBD based chorus in the Juno synths. Finally, there is a built in arpeggiator and bi-timbrel keyboard split options. All these features make it quite a fun synth to use with more range than other vintage poly's.

The AX-60 is a great vintage poly option, especially in the wake of the similar Juno series prices skyrocketing!"

Oberheim OB-Mx Rackmount 8-Voice Synthesizer SN MX001392

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"You're looking at the majestic Oberheim OB-Mx, with four voice cards, meaning eight voices of polyphony. OS 2.00. Works without problems. I will add another full OB-Mx without voice cards in the sale, which you can use for spare parts or to split the four voice cards into, so you have two full synthesizers. Yes, you read that right, there are TWO OB-Mx synthesizers included in the sale. The second unit runs OS 1.00. I will add several spare 2.00 ROMs as well.

The Oberheim OB-Mx is a rare and powerful analog synthesizer module released in the mid-1990s under the Oberheim name, though designed and produced by Gibson after acquiring the brand. Engineered to compete with classic vintage synths, the OB-Mx offers a modular voice architecture inspired by the Oberheim OB-series and Moog’s legacy. It features up to 12 voices, with each voice card containing dual multi-mode filters capable of emulating both Oberheim and Moog filter designs, making it highly flexible for sound design.

Its rich and authentic analog tone, deep modulation capabilities, and rarity have made it a coveted piece among synth collectors and sound designers looking for a unique blend of classic Oberheim warmth and Moog-style punch.

The architecture of the Oberheim OB-Mx was designed by Don Buchla, the legendary synth pioneer best known for his work on modular synthesizers and alternative synthesis approaches. While the OB-Mx was produced under the Oberheim brand, Buchla’s involvement brought a distinct modular and experimental edge to its design. His influence is evident in the flexible voice architecture, extensive modulation capabilities, and the combination of Oberheim and Moog-style filters, making the OB-Mx a unique hybrid of classic analog warmth and modular flexibility.

It's hard to find an equal in terms of analog sound and modular flexibility, so in many ways it's in the very top echelon of synth design."

Casio RZ-1

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"The Casio RZ was one of the first drum machines with a built-in sampler (and the last Casio drum machine of all time). The pop drum sounds of the '80s were made with the LinnDrum 1 or 9000, Simmons or Roland R-8 (later) so Casio stopped production within 2 years.

The ordinary RZ-1 has 12 PCM drum sounds plus a total sampling time of 0.8 s over four pads, which you can divide into 4 x 0.2 s / 2 x 0.4 s or 1 x 0.8 samples.

Sampling resolution is 12 bits with a sampling frequency of 20 kHz. You can direct the sample from a line or microphone (via the switch on the rear), but sample dumping (SDS) via MIDI is not supported. The internal memory holds up to 99 patterns and 20 songs, which can be combined, chained and looped.

With the MT tape interface, you can “dump” and archive internal patterns and samples to tape or MD-Disc, MP3-Stick or simply your sound card on the PC.

The RZ-1 was often used in pre-Techno / House Aera, and the Snare and Clap are still used a lot."

Patches in this video require at least firmware v188 which introduces the new Pitch parameter that allows sample pitch to be set independently of time. (visit: https://busycircuits.com/alm022 to download the latest firmware).

"A piece created using Max for Live synth ‪@noine-giron‬ NOIwavetableGEN, Rhodes Mark II, and TR-08. Undulating synthesizer sounds combine with rhythm machine beats and electric piano tones.

I build the bass and harmony using Max for Live’s synth NOIwavetableGEN (https://noine.gumroad.com/l/noi-wavet.... The bass is monophonized by narrowing its width with Utility.

The rhythm is played on the TR-08 and processed with reverb and filtering via NIGHTSKY.

On the Rhodes, I apply chorus using the ‪@BOSSinfoglobal‬ CE-5 and delay with ‪@strymon‬ TIMELINE."

How to calibrate the Motherboard by Ghost In Translation

video upload by Ghost In Translation

"The Motherboard features 16 inputs multiplexed over 2 ADC followed each by an amplification stage to adapt the inputs 0-5v range to Teensy's 0-3.3v.

Those 2 stages need to be calibrated to make sure the amplification's gain is right and that 5v in corresponds to 3.3v out.

With the following firmware and the help of 2 wires, easily adjust the gain by hearing a tone on each channel.

https://github.com/ghostintranslation...

The firmware connects an oscillator to IN1 and another to IN2. When the input goes up, so does the tone, up to a maximum reached at 3.3v on Teensy.

Connect one wire from 5v and to IN1, and one wire from GND to IN2. This will shut down the tone on the right channel and produce a tone in the left channel. Now turn the left trim potentiometer to adjust the gain until the tone reaches its maximum (meaning 5v corresponds to 3.3v).
Now wire from 5v to IN2 and from GND to IN1 and repeat the process.

This was a test of the new Blue Lantern Mixer/VCA/Decay module that was just released in 5U Moog Synthesizers.com American Format. The Synthetic Sound Labs 1660 audio output goes through the Zerosum Inertia Scorpion Tail, for some waveform defects and saturation, then into channel one on the Blue Lantern. The SSL 1660 gate output is triggering the Blue Lantern VCA. The VCA output goes to the Mackie Onyx 1640 with reverb blended on the CXM 1978. As you can hear there is white noise that can be blended in with the mixed signals. And the “Spectral” switch I’m flipping really sounds great!"

Lel DidiDrum by Ultrarare.su

video upload by Futulyric

"Ultrarare presents another super rare device drum module - Lel MIDIDRUM. In MIDI format all knobs of the device do not work, volume commands are transmitted in the note mode. Thus, the only regulator is the volume knob in the lower right corner. The simplicity of the plugin is compensated by the uniqueness of the source. To date, no other working preserved copy is known. Also included in the delivery set will be 34 unique drum parts of Lel in midi format, the name of which is written on the device."

This appears to be the first one to be featured on the site.

Moog Labyrinth 50 Modular Patches & Sequences + WAV Samples

video upload by Anton Anru

"'Circuit Maze' is a collection of 50 patches for the semi-modular synth Moog Labyrinth. Dedicated to the modular spirit, the bank of presets embraces the analog warmth, experimental mindset, and rich sonic possibilities provided by Moog Labyrinth—an instrument that challenges traditional sequencing, offering fresh ways to shape sound and inspire creativity.

🎛 While crafting this soundset, I wanted to fully explore Labyrinth's capabilities, dive deep into its unconventional workflow, and have fun with its distinctive sequencing approach, which is unavailable on other synths. The result is a collection of 50 patches designed to inject unique and evolving patterns into any track or performance.
Each preset—or fragments of it—can function as bass, percussion, melody/lead, pluck, or FX, making this collection highly versatile.

📦 Get these patches: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/laby...

💽 The presets explore a wide spectrum of tones, from warm, clean, soft, and deep to noisy, metallic, distorted, punchy, and bright. Some sounds are bold enough to take center stage, while others work best as supporting elements, adding texture and movement to your compositions.
You can use the patches as they are, but I strongly encourage real-time tweaking, allowing you to shape and evolve the timbres throughout your performance for a dynamic and immersive experience.

02.27.2025 Mos-Lab 2500 - To be continued

video upload by batchas

"The sound of the 2500 takes me into musical territory I've never explored before, plus the fact that I've rewired the whole studio with MIDI.
I took out the Juno 60 that was asleep for too long to add an arpeggio line on top of the 2500, but it did let me down after 10 minutes. I'll have to repair it :(
I replaced it with the Sixtrak, but I'll need more time to set the sound as I like. I might use the Matrix 1000 though. I'll see... Clocking the Juno arpeggio did a super sound that I was not able to get in this session on other synths. I'll have to spend more time and we'll see where it leads me.
Watching the video I realize I should use the Minimoog instead of the Sixtrak."
